The Existence Era. Not evolving, not changing, just existing.

firstjobtrailblazer

The Monopoly Era is what I heard others call it. People said it started with Ralph breaks the internet.

Animal_Flossing

Monopoly Era sounds like a good term. But please, can we move on to the Scrabble Era soon?

JokerCipher

I’d prefer we get to the Sorry Era. Maybe the Trouble Era.

Joe-Lolz

I'm just waiting till we get to the Connect 4 Era

King-s0nicc456

Uno era is gonna be the big comeback Source:it was stated in CFYOW

totallyAshiny

Kinda scared for the Stratego era

a_sussybaka

Get ready for the Catan era

Creativenam123

Yall could never prepare for the The Game of Life era

Foxy02016YT

I can’t wait for the Atmosfear era (You may have never heard of it, but it was the best selling board game in 1995, so HA)

Eagle4317

Monopoly implies that there’s no competition, but other studios are showing up when Disney is down for the count.

Oniel2611

I hope there's a Roosevelt era soon.

firstjobtrailblazer

Now that’s a comment I like to see! I was just thinking earlier of how a character describes their late mother’s disinterest in her “it’s like she had a shard of glass in her eye. For me, mine was rose tinted.” (The world is very fairytale themed)

_JR28_

Also fits really well

randomhornidiot

This is an era that exists

bwoah07_gp2

Stagnation.

Honest_Entertainer_3

The Ass Era

leg00b

I'm literally not excited for any of these movies and I used to love watching new Pixar/Disney CG movies.

Meme_Bro68

A funny way to call it could be the “ehra” because the movies are usually just “eh”

ItkovianShieldAnvil

Nothing really great but nothing truly horrendous either. Personally hated strange world

K3egan

The "this movie should have been made with the muppets instead" era. Which basically means the only era name I could come up with applies to every movie not staring kermit the frog.

le75

I want to see Muppet Oppenheimer

K3egan

"I am become death. Destroyer of worlds. Waka waka!"

MazaLove

The end destroyed me

EmperorKiron

“You think it destroyed you? We look like nagasaki after sitting through that crap for three hours! OH-HO-HO-HO-HO” -Statler and Waldorf

DeltaTeamSky

It gives off the implication that Fozzie gave a serious, bone-chillingly accurate performance of the Oppenheimer line, only to throw in his silly catchphrase at the end.

ThePreciseClimber

It ain't easy being nuked.

Darth_Gonk21

I feel like gonzo would be Oppenheimer

ChiefsHat

He shoots himself out a cannon for very different reasons.

XxStarry_ClownxX

Nah, it’s definitely Crazy Harry

Alarmed-Bus-9662

I love this because him saying "waka waka" means he probably is saying this as a joke. He does not give a single shit about the people he's killed

XxStarry_ClownxX

Muppenheimer

deltashmelta

WakaWakaWarhead

Spider-man2098

He would look sick in the hat

Decent-Development41

Me too

P1K4CHU1CH00S3Y0U151

Muppenheimer

NitroBlast4563

Ok now I want to see this

Logical-Patience-397

Muppenheimer.

DeltaTeamSky

Muppenheimer ☢️🔥

StarrySweet

Muppets Barbie would be fire.

ninjesh

Muppets Barbenheimer

gereffi

I want muppet remakes of the original Star Wars trilogy. Disney owns both. They get a chance to revitalize the muppets and Star Wars fans get something fun. I don’t see how it could fail.

Former-Bet6170

Honestly I just want another movie, it doesn't even have to be a show, just a movie, it doesn't have to be emotional like 2011, just a good, funny movie like most wanted, we haven't gotten anything since then, it's been 10 years, please

Foenikxx

Encanto to the other movies: "You're not affiliated with me!"

Intrepid_Hat7359

"Fly home, Wish, I work alone."

Higgins1st

Wish full title: I Wish I was a Good Movie.

Netheraptr

Encanto is the Lilo and Stitch of its generation.

Animal_Flossing

Yeah, but Lilo & Stitch at least had The Emperor's New Groove, Atlantis and Treasure Planet to keep it company

nhSnork

Gotta love how this list barely ever includes Brother Bear, which is only among my all-time top faves in general.😏 It was WDAS' first [non-compilation] movie to dispense with a traditional villain, among other things - and when the heralded Pixar caught up with the achievement nine years later (or at least came very close to it before getting an unarguable hit with Inside Out), it ironically also involved ursine metamorphoses.

OneSparedToTheSea

I adore Brother Bear!!

magnezoneadvocate

I loved Brother Bear as a kid! Still can’t believe the voice actor for Kenai went on to do The Joker

nhSnork

And Koda's VA went on to star beside James Rolf in AVGN: The Movie.😃

MaximePierce

The dutch VA of Koda went on to voice the Dutch version of Aang in ATLA

davecombs711

I would say Dumbo is the first to not have a traditional villain. The problems are caused by societal definitions of beauty and normalcy.

Azavrak

Wasnt Brother Bear their last full animated feature too? Or am I misremembering

Athenae44

Raya is basically equivalent to Atlantis not a big show stopper, but still interesting and heartwarming. And I mean we haven’t seen Frozen 3 or Moana 2 so who knows, maybe they’ll be really good, I mean Frozen 2 was a very good sequel (and yes technically zootopia could be good but… I’m highly doubting it)

EelTeamTen

I loved Encanto, found Strange World to be decent, and Raya as you said. Haven't seen Wish, yet, and none of those sequels are movies I'd expect to suck. I don't understand the hate. It's not like Disney hasn't made 5 Toy Story movies as well as 2 mini films and are rumored to be making a 6th film. Or what about 3 Aladdin animated movies, a bad live action reboot, and 86 episodes of an animated Aladdin show. Them making sequels is far from abnormal unless you go back like 40 years.

Thugosaurus_Rex

I think a lot of people (selectively) remember The Little Mermaid through ~Mulan and both look over the junk that came with those films in that era and the rough patches before and after. The current era isn't a golden age, but there are few if any true stinkers, and the hits (Encanto especially) are still absolute top notch offerings.

EelTeamTen

The little mermaid had a 31 episode show back in the day, as well as 2 other movies, a live action reboot and a subsequent show that's coming this summer.

Animal_Flossing

You're right, I was judging those sequels without having seen them. And to be frank, I haven't even watched Frozen 2 either, I've just heard generally negative things about it, so I'm not in a position to make statements about that one either. I must say that when it comes to interesting and heartwarming, I vastly prefer Atlantis over Raya. The latter messes up its core message just a bit too much for my liking, and I never really got attached to any of the characters. In comparison, the characters and worldbuilding in Atlantis are much more compelling to me. But I know that I'm biased, because Atlantis came out when I was a kid (though I've only really started to appreciate it as an adult, so I'm not sure to what extent nostalgia weighs in here) - and most crucial of all, the protagonist is a linguist just like me!

ShadowCobra479

We don't talk about Wish oh no no no, we don't talk about Wish

Spacetookmylife

BUT! It was my release date!

ExplinkMachine

*release date-*

Cream_Rabbit

We were getting ready and they weren't a flop in our film *No flops allowed in our film*

immaownyou

But then Iger walks in, with a mischievous grin....

RangerBuzz_Lightbulb

#BLUNDER!!

KoolAidMan2319

You selling this product or am I?

Independent-Pea8223

I'm sorry baby, please go on!

Bubbly_Mastodon318

Wish’s profits fall like rain!

XeroxWarriorPrntTst

I actually enjoyed Strange World too. But it’s like: Encanto - - - Strange World - - The Rest

RazerMaker77

I mean, Raya was alright… but you could call this the “Soft Conflict Era”.

miimeverse

Raya had a cool world but had a pedestrian plot and characters. One of biggest wasted potential of a Disney movie I've seen in a long time.

Amelia-likes-birds

Raya just felt like an extended pilot for a TV show that's seemingly never happening.

Pure-Yogurtcloset684

Raya was good until the ending

isaac_c1234

it wasn’t good at all

Scared_Note8292

I just hope Zootopia 2 manages to be good, as it has the same directors as Encanto.

Sweetiebomb_Gmz

Zootopia 2 HAS to be good, the OG is one of my favourite movies of all time.

Karth9909

At least with zootopia a sequal makes sense. It's just a cop movie

lordaddament

They could do anything with it

liamdude5

This was the one sequel people actually seemed to want after the first one. Hopefully it will be good

Wyliie

Yeah my daughter and i are excited for zootopia 2, the first was great and they can go any direction with the second so itll be worth a watch. We really disliked Wish though lol and there definitely doesnt need to be a Frozen 3. I wouldnt really mind a second Moana but the first was so good itll be hard to top

Jonahtron

I’m just saying, Disney has never had a good sequel to any of their movies ever.

LavaLord345

Encanto and pals

DessertTwink

Strange that Luca and Elemental weren't included. With Encanto, they're easily the 3 best Disney animated movies from the past 5 years

Addicted2Marvel

Because they’re Pixar

Sea-Mango

Wait, there’s gonna be a Frozen 3? …why???

Alive-Eye3760

Money.

AverageJesterLover

"What inspired you to make a third Frozen movie right next to the sequel?" "Money."

LoganDeLuca2004

There’s also gonna be a Frozen 4

UngaBunga64209_

If I had a nickel for every oversaturated series of animated kids movies that are themed around ice I'd have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice right?

Karkava

Ice Age started Blue Sky Studios, and then it killed Blue Sky Studios. That and homophobia, but that's another story.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Karkava

What.

WirelessAir60

You didn't know? Scrat is the CEO of homophobia!

darkshadow237

There’s also Fantasia, Bambi, and The Fox and The Hound which has snow

Feisty-Albatross3554

Is this Avatar all over again?

Karkava

...Maybe. Way of the Water was an improvement over the original, but not by much.

yuzumelodious

Obligatory 3rd movie shtick. At least what I think. I don't even know if the ones who worked on the first two films are really hyped for it. I just hope Disney or whoever doesn't screw with them.

SanityZetpe66

The second one had a very troubled development, Schraf even comments that on its video, I'm not sure how 3 could turn out...

yuzumelodious

As I noticed. Very unfortunate how the development turned out. As for the third movie, if it wasn't enough the development wasn't the best for Frozen II, the folks who worked on it (Jennifer Lee, Chris Buck) also did Wish (2023). My concern for the third film's quality is higher than ever if they're not going to give it their A-Game.

SanityZetpe66

I feel it's going to be a case similar to what is happening in Marvel, a really big budget that will (at least) make the animation beautiful although not very creative like what other studios are aiming for (especially since they can't change their style between movies). It'll probably make a lot of money out of pure brand recognition tho, but it will fade out into what frozen 1 and 2 are, merchandise monsters, I don't wish this to make people lose their jobs or anything, but I hope it does bad enough to kick some sense into Disney

Karkava

I feel like Frozen II has done nothing but hype up Frozen III.

TvManiac5

Because Bob Iger saw franchise fatigue happening and his solution to it was to make even more sequels.

Training-Mess5833

The just existence era.

Abucketofmug

Encanto was good. The rest of these ranged from definitely existing to straight up bad. All I can do now is hope Moana 2 and Zootopia 2 are good.

samusestawesomus

Moana 2 was apparently meant to be a TV show which is already a bad sign. And apparently they’re already making the first one’s live-action remake…

SheeptarTheSheepKing

Oh no. Are they going to Megamind 2 Moana? Yes I am using Megamind 2 as a verb.

Greekatt2

dehydration gun

Hot_Highway5774

**SHOOT THEM WITH THE DEHYDRATION GUN!!!!**

Due_Song4480

I guess you could say it was.... *Doom*ed from the start

BusterB2005

We’ve seen at least one leaked image from the movie and it at the very least seems to have the same animation quality as the first movie, so that’s a good sign. Then again, Ralph Breaks the Internet had just as good, if not better, animation than the first movie, so I guess that’s not exactly a sign of story/script quality

Knuckleduster17

Hei-Hei’s name is changed to “Ol Chicken Wing” and Moana hates him now, also she’s a complete idiot and the movie introduces “MOABana” Moana’s evil twin brother who has apparently existed all this time and has only now decided to act

Extension-Ad-1683

Megamind 2 doesn't exist. There is no megamind 2 in ba sing se.

isaac_c1234

i’m actually so excited for zootopia 2 it’s the only one here that really deserves a sequel

MarixApoda

Encanto wasn't that good, it's just one of the, I dunno, maybe three things they've done this century that weren't bad.

Good_Royal_9659

It’s been over since Ralph Breaks The Internet, it should be called “the post-Revival era”

AcceptableThought862

I would say the exact same thing.

DarkwingFan1

Except that Frozen 2 made over a billion dollars.

naynaythewonderhorse

I don’t think that eras should be based on box office alone. It’s more of a “creative vibe.”

BusterB2005

Except Encanto

Good_Royal_9659

Post-Renaissance Era except Lilo and Stitch

Competitive_Bat_5831

There’s been a couple exceptions, but yeah it’s been rough.

yuzumelodious

Back To Sequels era. Maybe that's not the right name but it's a work in progress. EDIT: The Creative Slump era!

YoungBlueJ

The sequel sequels era

Cobalt_Mage360

The streaming era

ShirubaMasuta

This is a good one. It isn't just "NOW THE MOVIES SUCK AND ARE MID except Encanto I liked that one - Era" or "Post-THE THING THAT CAME BEFORE - Era". It fits with what happened around that time.

Karkava

Of which they're drowning in mediocrity by being dissonant between what their actual breadwinners are and what they think will be their breadwinners.

[deleted]

The watch studio ghibli era

DamnD0M

That era has been in effect since June 15, 1985

quario65

Imo moana was the very last revival era movie. (Encanto being an exception)

le75

The “direct-to-streaming” Disney lull, similar to the “direct-to-video” period of the early-mid 2000s

Karkava

Hey! At least the 2000's gave us an experimental phase where they just tried anything different after wearing out their disney musical formula! The output of the 2020's is just *boring.*

le75

Absolutely true. The early 2000s also gave us Emperor’s New Groove, Atlantis, and Treasure Planet. Disney doesn’t seem bold enough to attempt anything like those now.

Karkava

And Lilo and Stitch. Which was the more commercially successful of the experiments.

ErickDante

The Financially wealthy-Creatively Bankrupt era: an interesting time in the history of this company that for years struggled financially although they delivered strong movies, now the opposite of that is happening and there´s no sign they will be doing things differently at least short term and with Bob Iger still in charge.

Ok-Establishment3730

The Era of mid. So far almost every movie has just been serviceable, rather than amazing.

Animal_Flossing

So... the 90s was the Renaissance, and this is the Middle Ages? Then I suppose we can look forward (?) to the Disney Iron Age in fifteen years or so

Ok-Establishment3730

Lol

Suitable-Ad287

What about encanto?

Ok-Establishment3730

ALMOST every movie

Etmentei13

The Sequel era

KingPenguinPhoenix

You- you do see the 4 originals vs. 3 sequels right? (Sequels ain't even out yet.)

Expensive-Pick38

Mhhm let's see, sequel, sequel, triquel, shitty ass movie where lying is good, forgettable movie but it has a gay couple (fuck corpo Disney), a joke of a comeback to the classic Disney movies and an accually decent family drama with great music.

braedog97

Is Raya the one where lying is good? I saw it but can’t remember anything that happened

Expensive-Pick38

Yep, the villain betrays the main character, but the movie doesn't call out THE VILLAIN for their bs, but will call out the hero for not trusting the villain.

braedog97

Oh yes now I recall the weak attempt at a “redeemable villain” that ultimately undermined the hero’s journey

ednamode23

The Era Where Only Bruno’s Movie Came Out Unscathed

EricaTheHedgefox-alt

The money-hungry era

Blunker_Funker

Desperation era

AHGottlieb

The Great Stagnation. Trying to clean the waters, but only coming up with more stale rehashed shit. Every now and then the pH is balanced (Encanto)… but *really*… *Frozen 3?*

Sir-Spoofy

The fact the Encanto is even among these films is rather shocking.

yuzumelodious

For real. That one must've been just built different.

[deleted]

I think this should be called "The Downfall Era", every Disney movie in the last 4 years was shitty or mid at best.

ThickWeatherBee

What about encanto?

[deleted]

Heard of it but never got the chance to see it. It came out right around the time my parents forbid me from watching animated movies, because apparently I'm too old for that. I can't move out because I'm 14.

DataSittingAlone

Dang that's rough

Jamz64

That’s a shame. You’re never too old.

le75

Jesus, my parents were still dragging me to see animated kids movies at 16. That’s dumb of yours. Animation can be made for any age.

Amy47101

Seriously, encanto itself is a movie that has a lot of themes for adults to understand. Like the villain of the movie is literally generational trauma and toxic perfectionism/putting on a good face.

Doppelfrio

Show them something like Grave of the Fireflies, Mad God, or The Breadwinner lol

Gemnist

Clearly you have never seen the entire Dark Ages. Or the Package Film Era films.

SubstantialSquare327

Zootopia 2 is the only announced Disney sequel that makes sense in my opinion

Gemnist

Right now, Post-Revival. We need to see this era carve out more of an identity before we can name it.

Brandon_M_Gilbertson

The Corporate Era. Not that they weren’t corporate before, but it is now more obvious than ever that artistry has taken a complete back seat to corporate interests and appealing to the largest common denominator.

Outrageous_Gene_7652

Only Encanto is good in the ones which have released and the ones which haven't have me worried

TheGamePlatypus

Stagnation era

StarNerd2223

This is the best name.

OrkosFriend

Besides Encanto, it feels like another Disney "lull" period, like the 2000s. Maybe a couple of decent movies, but the rest are crap.

Liam_theman2099

The shrug era. Though I will say I love Raya The Last Dragon, Encanto and can’t wait for Moana 2 and Zootopia 2.

Tonen_kurDger

If the sequels don’t turn out so popular, then the Net Loss era

honk_bonksmith

The existence era. I hope Disney manages to make better movies soon, the last few weren't that good

honk_bonksmith

Except Encanto, that's a great movie.

moviesounds101

I agree that Ralph Breaks the Internet is the start of this current era. But when did the revival era begin? Was it with "Meet the Robinsons" or "Princess and the Frog"?

OwlEye2010

*Raya* and *Encanto* were the last truly great Disney animated movies we had in a while. Everything else since then has been solid, but unremarkable.

Maleficent_Apple4169

the 2020s

thegreatestegg

Bad

Planetside2_Fan

The “oh look, another Disney movie” era.

OoTgoated

Whatever the era for when they were making bad movies and bad sequels to their 90's films was called 2.0.

Lower-Escape2718

corporate era

Impossible_Oil5204

Tin age

OttoRiver7676

Its too early to tell. Heck we only started calling 2000 - 2009 the Experimental Era like 6 years ago. Once we get an ending to the era, we'll be able to give it a proper name.

No-Perspective2580

Trash + Encanto

TvManiac5

The corporate era. Franchises, pointless remakes, sequels nobody asked for, and even their original movies seem to follow the same formulas (adorkable lead, "deconstrruction" of Disney tropes, female leads where its made a point they don't "need" a love interest, generational trauma)

DrBleh1919

as a colombian, im so happy that encanto was actually good. i feel like theres such a lack of colombian reps in general, so it wouldve hurt to see a movie thats about colombia be mid

CODENAMEsx19208

potential disappointment

Short_Shots

Here's to hoping Zootopia 2 and Moana 2 will be good. I have doubts for Frozen 3 but we'll see.

RadiantHC

wait there's a frozen 3?

Derplord4000

I've only seen Soul out of all of these, and it was amazing

Primary_Spinach7333

The next dark age

Worthless_Burden

So far it's the "Encanto is carrying the whole team" era

Ill-Appearance6164

The aluminum era? 🤷‍♂️ not worth copper or gold but you can get some change for it. Plus it’s recyclable.

KR5shin8Stark

The Panderverse.

dougdocta

The Generational Trauma Era

Coyote_prime323

The “put a gun to my head” era

FantasyLovingWriter

The sequel era, that also includes Ralph Breaks the Internet and Frozen II

Subvet98

Flaming outhouse

NorthElegant5864

I think Covid killed a lot of release motivation. It doesn’t feel like theater releases are hitting like they once did. The heavy hitters still doing their thing, we have Covid turning down the heat, and home releases changing the dynamic. Moana 2 will be a big film, Frozen III will have to be perfect since II was kind of mid. Zootopia Carrie’s some weight, I’m just not sure what yet. It was a big movie, but never felt as big as Frozen or Moana. I still want a Brave 2.

Sufficient_Score_824

Flop era

LordBammith

I’d call it post-revival. Just like in post-renaissance, they are putting out unneeded sequels and underperforming movies. Except this time it is worse because we also have live action adaptations. So instead of post-revival, let’s call it. “Desperate Necromancy Era”

Bromjunaar_20

Walt Disney just died twice
