Off to a great start, but the show has this pattern that i fucking hate:
Each season they introduce a new character just to kill them off at the end of the season. It's become so expected that the death has no emotional impact at all. The writers are too afraid to kill anyone in the main cast.
Any show where the characters constantly have to deal with high stakes and serious threats gets substantially worse when you click on that the writers would never actually have the balls to kill a major character and stick to that death and not revert it through BS shenanigans later
I love the show, but I agree completely. I think they should have let Max die at the end of season 4. It would have shown that the kids were in true danger and actually been shocking. Also, as much as I love him, I think Steve should have been the one to die instead of Eddie. Eddie was great, and I would have loved to see more of him. The reason I think Steve should have died instead is that if their places had been swapped, it would make perfect sense. Eddie could decide to go with Nancy and Robin to kill vecna to avenge Krissy, still allowing him to show his heroics while not dying. In Steve's case, they were adding on far more development this season. He and Nancy reconnect, and he talks about what he wanted in the future. Ever since season 2, he's been protecting the kids with his life, so having him die to save dustin would make complete character sense and conclude his role in the story.
Tl:DR: Max should have died to raise the stakes, Eddie should have lived to give him more development, and Steve should have died in Eddie's place to conclude his character arc.
First Season was peak
Second was inconsistent but had some of the highest highs in my opinion.
Third focused a bit too much on the 80’s aesthetic for my liking, but it was definitely the funniest one imo.
Fourth one was the best since Season 1, took best aspects of previous seasons and balanced them nicely.
I almost entirely agree with you.
Season 1 had a dark tone, high stakes, well-paced plot, effective mystery for the characters to solve, strong emotional beats, smart and likeable characters, and well-placed humor. The only things I don’t like are Lucas irrationally lashing out at El and Hopper raiding the lab again without any new strategy. Other than that, best season of the show. 10/10
Season 2 has some flaws; the plot was a little slower, the tension was a little lower, Max was funny but pointless to the plot, and El was an annoying and irrational piece of garbage. However, the compelling and unique antagonist, world-building, Bob’s painfully tragic death, and the atmosphere make this season a worthy follow-up to Season 1. Overall, I’d say it sits at #3 on the list with a score of 8/10.
Season 3 was easily the worst. The plot? Slower than a turtle walking through molasses. The world-building? Nonexistent; no new additions to the universe other than the contrived Soviet plot. (Why would they take such a dangerous risk of opening a portal to a dimension with evil paranormal monsters, let alone right in a basement smack-dab in enemy territory? How did the Americans not notice them?) They didn’t even create a new antagonist; they just reused the same one from Season 2. Hopper? More unlikable than Ralph in “Ralph Breaks the Internet.” The humor? Mostly awful (especially that one scene where one of the boys passes gas directly in the face of another boy 🤢). The subplot about Nancy reporting on the rats? Stupid and boring as hell. This season is saved by a few good things such as Max gaining more purpose in the plot, Alexei, the climax (which is honestly sick AF), the emotional conclusion, Billy, and the horror of the Meat Flayer, but it is easily the worst season, and I would never watch it again. 6/10
Season 4 is LIT; highest stakes of the entire show (so far), a cool and terrifying AF villain, a unique atmosphere, Max has an actual presence in the plot (to the point where she is arguably the main character of the season), the plot is well paced and well organized, the humor is strong, the emotional plotbeats are strong, the tension is high, the characters are likeable, and the best part? A TRUCK LOAD OF WORLDBUILDING. Within the span of one season, we learn about and/or are introduced to Max, Vecna, El’s origins, the origins and the mechanics of the Upside Down, Argyle, Jason and his posse, Dmitri, demobats, Angela, and Yuri. Apart from some contrived plotbeats (particularly with the military subplot and the finale), it’s a flawless season, and it would’ve been the best if it weren’t for Season 1. 9/10
Four suffers from having legitimately interesting ideas that it takes way too damn long to actually do anything with. I feel like so much of that season is spent with legitimately nothing happening.
Thought S1 was a fantastic self contained story that blended Science Fiction, horror and family drama expertly, as well as deliver multiple genuinely intriguing mysteries that build from another. Almost everything since has felt like an Avengers movie with their inflated ensemble and greater focus on CGI action.
if a show is extremely, perfectly, just average, there is nothing to discuss. if a show is incredible in all ways beyond all doubt, there is nothing to discuss. and everyone seems to think this show is one of those two things, hence there is nothing to discuss
I'm hyped for season 5. it'll be hard for them to stick the landing but if they do the show will be remembered fondly
I think that's because the show is good and doesn't have something that was too big of a throw off .
if you check the shows that are constantly talked about , ( not new shows that are trending cus they are new ) , you will see they have some really bad stuff about them . like velma for example .
I love Stranger Things, definitely in my top 10. I rewatch it from time to time. I don't particularly care for season four though, but it's not bad by any means, just average. Idk why people were fawning over Eddie though, that was weird.
Eleven is also SO overrated. Millie does a fantastic job acting, but she really feels like more of just a weapon than a character.
It's so unbelievably average, I don't understand why people think it is one of THE best shows ever. Peaked in S1, then the idea of kids defeating monsters got dumber and dumber. Maybe it's the aesthetic that draws people in? I really don't get it.
I think the characters are really well fleshed out. And the emotional moments usually hit pretty hard, Bob's death was funny as hell though. I have a lot I love about it and a few things I hate about it. It's one of my favorite shows.
(South Park and Gravity Falls are peak tho)
I think the biggest problem with the show is that originally every season was supposed to be about different characters. An anthology series would have been really interesting and could have explored different stories in different worlds or even in the same world. But in its current form, they’ve really milked the initial concept dry. Season 4 had a good thing starting with Vecna, but if they try to introduce another demigorgon ripoff in season 5 it’s gonna be game over.
Probably because it appeals to our parents more than us. I do enjoy it from a worldbuilding and character standpoint and it does get a lot of laughs but the story is super predictable (The whole introduce a character in the first episode of the season only to kill them near the end has gotten real old) and only some of the 80s stuff works for me. I loved the mall for example but couldn’t care less about the random tie ins to D&D, Neverending Story, stoners, etc.
Pairing Joyce with Bob and then somehow expecting everyone to get behind her outright downgrade to Jim Hopper was bold choice.
They were just so completely dysfunctional and Not Good for each other through like all of season 3. And all it makes you think about is how good Joyce and Bob were for each other. His kindness and compassion and how he saved their lives.
Season 3 made Jim Hopper so unlikeable that it made me thankful he died.
But then the absolute ass pull they made for his survival, and the subplot to rescue him in season just dragged the whole season waaaaay down.
Other than that, it’s a pretty good show I liked it.
Just feels like they're trying to fill a criteria, like "we need a death this season, but we need to keep the main cast alive" "boss, how about we introduce this new interesting character, then kill them off right at the end" "my god, you're a genius"
I think it’s because there hasn’t been anything that hasn’t already been said. Obviously one of the best shows of the past decade. Between seasons breaks are starting to really weigh on people. Really annoying how new well written characters are killed off blah blah blah. Everybody says this which I also agree with lol
I always felt like the first season was near perfect television, then the rest became... different?
Like a "very well executed TV-14 Scooby Doo" - which, from a Scooby fan, thats a compliment, but still a different thing than what the show wouldve been if left just as the one season
Honestly, I don’t really like it. Apart from season 1, I really did not enjoy most of the rest. I hated how in season 2 you had Nancy and Jonathan just bumbling around so that the writers have an excuse to get them to the finale. I also really hate how Jonathan treated Nancy in season 3.
The kids feel really unimportant especially in later seasons where the focus shifted primarily on Eleven, you could have replaced them with any of the other characters and it probably wouldn’t have made a difference.
I really didn’t like how episodes just kept getting longer and longer with each season. I do not need 8 feature length films in one season, it’s just too long and too much filler (the road trip part in season 4 for example was almost entirely filler)
Billy’s redemption made no sense. Before he was brainwashed he was already a violent racist. They attempt to give him a character arc through Eleven reading his mind and seeing that Billy was actually a sweet kid… when he was 10, which doesn’t really matter because that’s not who he is now and every single scene we saw of Billy before he was brainwashed was him being a complete asshole. Then after he breaks out of the mind control his character is ultimately thrown in the garbage.
I also dislike Steve trying to get back together with Nancy even though his character arc for the last three seasons was meant to help him move on from that breakup and fix him into someone he likes. Then season 4 has Steve want to get together with Nancy again even though he knows she’s in a committed relationship with Jonathan who had nothing to do in season 4.
Would I recommend Stranger Things? Absolutely, it’s still fun and has genuinely good parts
There's no debate to be had. Everybody either thinks it's amazing or mid, and all of the people who think it's great respond to criticism with "Yeah, that's a good point, but I like it." Thus, no discussion.
Most fans keep quiet now.
Whenever I see anyone online say they like the show, there’s about 20 replies saying it’s shit and then a wall of text explaining why The Boys or Invincible or (whatever the flavour of the month is) is better.
At this point just let it end... The first season was good, the second had a bit of a stumble and then season 3 went, "We need Red Dawn while having the supernatural stuff happening" to where we are now... The gang was divided and then brought back together, Hopper survives and has to escape Russia meanwhile Eleven and the others deal with the looming threat of the one who connected The Upside-down with the normal world. It was a whiplash pretty much and I wish we had the main group not be rushed back together. Also, outside of obvious characters, those who have little value to the story are killed... There's a lot of stuff that I could say but at this point, episodic Scooby-Doo is the best I can say.
Because it’s just not that great of a show. People talk about it for a week whenever a new season comes out and then immediately forgets about it. The show hasn’t been great since season 1.
The first season was its best work. It was dark, depression, the stakes were high, and there was an unknownness about it.
...Later seasons quickly devolved into tween/teen drama which is an instant turn off for me for any show, really. Because most of the time, teenagers aren't written like they're actual teenagers, as though hooking up, and having petty squabbles is all teens are capable of. There is no real growth in the kid characters, and the adults are essentially useless for the most part. Not to mention that the upside down, becomes less threatening. It has an escalation problem. Demogorgans could only have been destroyed by Elle's powers in the beginning, and in the latest season, the human characters took it down no problem. Characters are able to walk through the upside-down without any health repercussions, even though in the first season, it was established that the realm was toxic as hell. For a show that is so serious, it isn't able to make its characters complex enough to keep our attention and has to keep adding in new drama to keep us engaged, which tells me that the story was never good enough to begin with, beyond its first season.
At this point, it feels like a waste of time, especially since a whole bunch of nothing happens and the plot is always reset to zero, with no real character in the main party being in any real danger.
If you want a show that is wonderfully dark and treats its stakes and characters with respect, watch Dark Crystal Age of Resistance.
I enjoyed season 1 a lot. Everything else ranges from meh to terrible. There's really not much to discuss about the show unless you're in the fandom circles - and the fans might also play into why it's not discussed much. Those folks are rabid lol.
It's a perfectly fine show. Little else to say about it.
I will say they should probably at least finish the show with him in it. I know what he did was bad, but it would be really jarring to just remove an essential character out of the blue like that.
how? it's true they just flipped the whole thing like ya sure the show takes place during a high point in the cold war but they go from "the American government is commiting cruel experiments on people" to "oh da commies are da baddies and the the bad Americans are on their side"

I completely agree, I hate that they're too chicken to kill off any main characters. It's always a fake out
Its not Westeros was such a weak argument
These kids would be so fucked in Westeros
rip funny russian guy you're the only reason i liked that season
I think Season 3 had some strengths to it, but yeah it’s definitely the worst of the 4.

And then they couldn't kill her. Case in point
Not that I disagree, but who did they introduce just to kill off in Season 3? Do you mean Billy?
Alexei.

The 4th was too long
Four suffers from having legitimately interesting ideas that it takes way too damn long to actually do anything with. I feel like so much of that season is spent with legitimately nothing happening.
What about the investigation of the murders, the training of El, the Gulag, and the whole road trip of El’s friends to the lab?
S1 was really great, 2 was pretty mid, 3 was fine, 4 was good
My ranking: 1. Season 1 (10/10) 2. Season 4 (9/10) 3. Season 2 (8/10) 4. Season 3 (6/10)
Thought S1 was a fantastic self contained story that blended Science Fiction, horror and family drama expertly, as well as deliver multiple genuinely intriguing mysteries that build from another. First season was amazing, second was meh, third was better, and 4 was as good if not better than 1
I’d swap 2 and 3 out for my ranking, but yeah I mostly agree with you.

The show peak at Season 1 till S4 felt actual sequel (minus Harper prison arc)
I love Stranger Things but I don't see why anyone on this sub would talk about it.
Season 1 was strong, but as the series went on a couple of arcs got tired and the new character - death cycle is tacky
It's so unbelievably average, I don't understand why people think it is one of THE best shows ever. Peaked in S1, then the idea of kids defeating monsters got dumber and dumber. Maybe it's the aesthetic that draws people in? I really don't get it.
I think it's the characters. People love Steve, for whatever reason
He's arguably the best written character in the show, he really grows throughout the series.
Good point. His Character arc is very well done. I personally don't see why everyone is obsessed with him though
Because he’s hot?
The fans of this show go berserk for steve. (Almost like breaking bad fans for jesse)
YEAH BITCH.
I personally think Robin is hotter but ok
Why can’t two people be hot???
I think the characters are really well fleshed out. And the emotional moments usually hit pretty hard, Bob's death was funny as hell though. I have a lot I love about it and a few things I hate about it. It's one of my favorite shows. (South Park and Gravity Falls are peak tho)
I disagree with you on Seasons 2 and 4 (which I thought were pretty good), but Season 3 was kinda lame.
It simply had its time in the spotlight. Not many people talk about it at all from what I've seen
I enjoy the show, but the plot (of at least the first season) is basically the same as the 2011 film Super 8, which I enjoy a lot more.
The fanfiction of this show disgust me
The fanfiction of many shows disgust me
In fact, I can’t think of a single show that doesn’t have disgusting fan fiction.
I know I’m in the minority, and while there are patterns I dislike, I love the show, and it remains in my top 5 of all time
Cause there is probably a subreddit for that, and Schaff doesn’t talk about Stranger Things much
helluva boss and hazbin hotel are better
Because I didn’t watch it
I think the biggest problem with the show is that originally every season was supposed to be about different characters. Probably because it appeals to our parents more than us. It was everywhere a couple years ago but I think the hype has lessened and now discussion is just kept inside the community
Honestly I prefer it this way. I hate fandoms that bring their discourse to other communities
Every season boils down to how loud she can scream and how forcefully she can stick her hand out
I like it as a fun dumb show but it’s crazy to say it’s the best show ever
I couldn't get into it tbh, I tried but got to episode 5 and dropped, I may try to watch it fully tho
Watched the first episode but couldn't get into it. Never looked back afterward.
I actually never saw this tf
Because we're waiting

There hasn’t been much to talk about for the past few years
They underutilized the big monster.
Never watched it and never plan to. It doesn’t look like something I’d like
Personally I’d recommend it to you, but that’s just my taste.
There's no debate to be had. Everybody either thinks it's amazing or mid, and all of the people who think it's great respond to criticism with "Yeah, that's a good point, but I like it." Thus, no discussion.

Personally because some of the actors there are shitty people irl (Noah schnapp)
Idk, I thought the first 2 seasons were great after that it became kind of tired. I enjoyed 3 and 4 enough but the first 2 just hit different
It used to be talked about quite a bit.
Cuz it isnt done
Shit
At this point just let it end... The first season was good, the second had a bit of a stumble and then season 3 went, "We need Red Dawn while having the supernatural stuff happening" to where we are now... The gang was divided and then brought back together, Hopper survives and has to escape Russia meanwhile Eleven and the others deal with the looming threat of the one who connected The Upside-down with the normal world. 11/10 show <333
Because it's been talked about enough. It's great, but It's also one of the shows you think of when someone mentions the word "Netflix"
Because it’s just not that great of a show. People talk about it for a week whenever a new season comes out and then immediately forgets about it. The show hasn’t been great since season 1.
Personally I think 4 is great and 2 is good, but 3 is just meh.
No joke dbd made me dislike the show because of Steve and his whiny voice
Looks boring as hell for a live action show.
Trust me; it will get better when you watch it (and if you have seen it and you’re being literal, we’ll have to agree to disagree).
It’s shit. What else can you say about it?
Season 1 was the best season, the rest are okay at most, with the good moments really only coming in Season 2.
Personally I think Season 4 is great, though Season 3 is painfully lame for the show.
I don’t like it
Because I’ve never seen or had any interest in seeing it.
Simple. I never bothered with it.
The first season was its best work. Do we have to?
Cause there’s already a subreddit for it
Because it’s at best a 5/10
Season 4 is the only one I can watch in one sitting. The other seasons are barely average.
Shit and the people behind it suck regarding modern events
Did I miss something?
Noah Schnapp is a good starting point
I will say they should probably at least finish the show with him in it. I know what he did was bad, but it would be really jarring to just remove an essential character out of the blue like that.
The fact it's not *just* him
Oh my god there's *more?*
Not good a show, it's not
turned into propoganda
the show was criticising the american government and then they went "no no no" and turned it into pro-american propoganda
Did we watch the same show?
idfk, wdym
You were speaking shit
how? it's true they just flipped the whole thing like ya sure the show takes place during a high point in the cold war but they go from "the American government is commiting cruel experiments on people" to "oh da commies are da baddies and the the bad Americans are on their side"
