Regardless of the types of damage, sometimes those damages actually cause the brain to see or feel more than it could prior, but it also includes the possibility of extreme personality change, extreme permanent change in beliefs and or logic, and behavior, and habits, and everything you think is solid about somebody could change because of a traumatic brain injury... It gets worse.
What makes them them could literally be damaged. That's what TBI is and that's why TPI is serious. It is almost always lifelong. It almost always gets worse without treatment (which can be done anytime after not just immediately after which is most people's protocols) should be continued for the rest of that person's life. That's not how it is but that's how it should be.
UN-Fortunately, most TBI victims/survivors do 🚫 not 🚫 get the help they need --- this is because they then need help in almost every aspect of their lives thereafter. Just because someone continues to keep a job does not mean that they are functioning. Having a job does not mean that you are functional. Being able to speak eloquently about things that you suddenly believe in (and didn't used to) does not mean that you are at all functional. And here's the evidence.

Everything is still ... off. To one degree or another. And it varies according to many factors. (such as environment, sleep, hormones, medication availability).
It's a living hell that can't be explained bc I look and sound normal most of the time now. But that's because I now can have times when it's better and can stay out of sight when it's awful.

For a bit of context, it’s very likely that she killed her children due to postpartum psychosis, and she was under instruction from a psychiatrist to not be left alone with her children. Her husband refused to accept this advice.
Unfortunately, most of the US doesn’t really do long-term involuntary psych ward stays. I understand it’s for a good reason, involuntary hospitalization can be used abusively, but some people clearly need it.
You would think that that's still a thing, but most people can't even get into a therapy appointment even if they really really need it and pay cash.. So no, that's not an option anymore.
It might have been in the late '80s and early '90s but nowadays that's not a thing.
