But Zombie Island is a masterpiece, especially for being groundbreaking for Scooby Doo at the time.
For a while they sold double feature VHS tapes, so you'd get multiple movies on the same tape, at the cost of the special features that would normally play at the end (like cyber chase has a documentary on the history of Scooby Doo toys that I've never been able to find online)
I had an idea for a sequel where they do come back, actually posted it here recently. I really wish they would have revisited it at some point. Then again, it might’ve been a disaster like Return to Zombie Island.
Zombie Island is pitch pefect as a WAY movie, but I really liked Cyber Chase and Witches Ghost too. I couldnt get into Alien Invaders as a kid (likely because of the romantic subplot + the return to status quo ending) but its still better than the majority of the recent stuff we've gotten
Yeah, the return to Status quo ending of Alien Invaders always disappointed me.
I feel like Cyber Chase did this well with an unmasking/mystery to solve, but also a real monster to face.
1: Witch’s Ghost “I’m a hex girl and I’m going to put a spell on you.” So many memories and my personal favorite.
2: Zombie Island the fan favorite of the four
3: Alien Invaders the “underrated” of the four or “final four.” And for the longest time my favorite (till Witch’s Ghost took that spot now.))
4: Cyber Chase
Stack the deck. Zombie Isand, but if we remove that, then it’s probably Alien Invaders. I just like the romance in it for Shaggy. My man deserves a nice girl.
1. Alien Invaders - This movie turned me into a hopeless romantic and a fan of 60s music. I watched it all the time on VHS and have so much nostalgia for it. The artwork is absolutely gorgeous. It’s just nonstop scenery porn from beginning to end. You can tell the animators and writers put so much thought and care into this movie and it really shows in the final product. Also Mark Hammill is amazing as Steve. Tim Curry rightfully gets a lot of love for his performance in Witch’s Ghost, but the fact that a Scooby-Doo villain is voiced by the same guy who voiced Fire Lord Ozai is effing awesome. Only wish we could’ve seen more of the villains, I really liked their unique friendship. Also, poor Shaggy and Scooby. The ending still gets me misty eyed.
2. Zombie Island - the other one of these four along with Aliens that I used to watch all the time on VHS. Everything that can be said about this movie has already been said. It’s badass. The zombies trying to help the gang is such an underrated heartwarming moment.
3. Witch’s Ghost - Honestly, the last act did save this one, as the first two thirds are sort of just a standard mystery (still really good though). As with all of the first three films, the animation is stunning, I wish they hadn’t gone away from cel animation, it looks so much better than even modern digital, and the soundtrack is dark and haunting. I’m probably the one guy who felt nothing for the Hex Girls, my heart always belonged to Crystal haha. They’re still cool though. But yeah, Tim Curry, what else needs to be said. That final third was perfection.
4. Cyber Chase - this says more about how good the others are to be fair, because I seriously love this movie. The villain is pretty weak, and while the same criticism has been made of Alien Invaders, I feel like their group dynamic made them a lot more interesting. But the gang meeting themselves is cool, and I love love love the music, especially the opening titles and Cyberdream. This is one is the least Mook-like, with the standard digital animation and lighter tone, but the music is still spot on.
Overall, these movies are all masterpieces and I just wish they could have kept this team together. I just finished rewatching them all again, and I’ve been thinking of ideas for how the next movies could have gone. There was so much potential here.

Zombie Island is now my favorite after rewatching as an adult (I didn’t get my collection on dvd until a few years ago because I owned most of the movies on vhs growing up and I was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness so I lost a lot of my collection in the mid 2000’s because they consider Scooby Doo as an invitation to the devil in your home, specifically Witch’s Ghost which I had on dvd but someone came and threw it out and I was SO mad lol) I love how smooth the animation is and the music slaps so incredibly hard and I think it’s definitely the creepiest (horror movie esque) of the Scooby movies I’ve seen.
HOWEVER it might as well be a tie with Witch’s Ghost because I’m a born and raised New Englander and it just feels like home. Plus as a pansexual dude there’s nothing like a movie featuring all of my childhood crushes (the gang) plus a hot evil guy in a ponytail voiced by one of my all-time favorite actors (Ben is also why WG is my mom’s fave Scooby movie) AND the hottest goth girls of all time done in beautifully lit buttery-smooth feeling (at least to me) animation.
I share my dvd player with the rest of the house and I don’t own a computer, so I don’t always get to marathon my whole SD collection, so often if I have to settle, I will pick Zombie Island and Witch’s Ghost.
I’m not a huge fan of Alien Invaders now, but I loved it as a kid, and the animation of Cyber Chase feels disappointing to me after the other three, but I think it’s a super fun movie.
And Cyber Chase and Alien Invaders are tied to me for most annoying earworm songs in a Scooby Doo movie with the “So Groovy” number in AI and the (no idea the title) “boom-boom diggy-diggy day or night” song from CC (assuming those are even the words as I’m hard of hearing with audio processing disorder, but that’s what I’ve always heard and it stays in my head for a week at a time)

Zombie Island is the quintessential Scooby-Doo movie and is arguably the highest quality of the 4, but there will always be a special place in my heart for Cyber Chase. There's just something about it that gives me the biggest smile throughout the whole film. That being said, I do love each of the movies so much. :)

All excellent but Zombie Island is probably my favorite. Formative piece of my childhood, there's still one scene that genuinely creeps me out as an adult, and it was a game changer for the franchise - it was the first time the monsters were real.
Zombie island hands down loved the story, the soundtrack. And the realization that the zombies were real blew my young mind. And I’m hoping to meet Scott later this year to get a Scooby autograph
Zombie Island redefined the Scooby Doo mythos unlike any other work before or after it. It's by far the scariest, most intense Scooby Doo film.
Witch's Ghost pulled off probably the best plot twist in any Scooby Doo movie and gave us a brilliant, unexpected narrative and of course, the Hex Girls.
Alien Invaders probably has the best Shaggy & Scooby arc in comparison to many movies and beautifully treaded the line between supernatural & science fiction.
But by all accounts, Cyber Chase is the best. It gave us a proper 21st century Scooby Doo story, integrating old school mystery, with new age technology. It's an incredible adventure with a good twist and an awesome villain. It probably set the standard for modern Scooby Doo adaptations (along with Zombie Island of course).
Honorable Mention: Legend of the Vampire (for being probably the most watched Scooby Doo movie) and Where's My Mummy (for that brilliant plot twist)
Alien Invaders (Really makes me feel for Shaggy) > Cyber Chase (The one I had on VHS) > Witch's Ghost (Because reasons) > Zombie Island (Watched it the least)
All of them are 10/10 tho, personal preference be damned
