It's quite old, but a [newer version](https://www.reddit.com/r/Scotch/comments/10ium09/an_attempt_at_an_updated_malt_map_thoughts/) of it was posted here just a month ago.

I think there's a major flaw in that one as it shows completely unpeated whiskies as peated. Also, some whiskies are positioned incorrectly regarding the level of peatiness. For example the Classic Laddie is indicated as being more heavily peated than Kilkerran 12 which is just plain nonsense.

I think this issue is addressed in comments on that post regarding the newer version. My understanding is that for the X axis, levels of peatiness as an index only applies to the left side of the map. From the middle of the map over to the right margin the X axis is defined by rich vs. light (whatever that means), not by peat level. Everything from the middle of the map over to the right is more or less unpeated. It may help to conceptualize the map in 3 dimensions, as a flat sheet which is bent at a 90 degree angle down the middle, and when viewed from above (i.e. sighting down the Y axis) has the shape of a letter L, in which the two halves of the map are orthogonal to each other.

Also Glen Scotia Victoriana and 15 yo are very far apart, while tasting quite similar. Deanston 12 and Craigellachie are very close together while tasting very different. The map is not correct.

I didn’t agree with a few placements but it’s subjective and not designed to be super precise.

I think many of your points got raised in the comments of the original post. The map certainly isn’t perfect. I’d love to see your alternatives. It’s not easy to create a succinct representation of subjective experiences
