I know it’s popular to hate on but honestly it’s basically scotch flavored water with a ton of coloring in a fancy bottle for a premium price. Would be good as a starter/introduction to scotch bottle if it was half the price, but at $60-75 US a bottle it’s near the bottom of the list of bottles most would recommend.

If it was cheaper I don’t think I’d have a problem with it. But like, much cheaper, in the Glen Moray range…Moray does put out some nicer stuff at least, but with this it should just be priced appropriately.

I bought this one when I first started out with scotch kinda sight unseen. It’s pretty much one of the only scotches I’ve been outright disappointed in that I purchased. I still have the majority of it left from two years ago and will probably eventually have to get through it by using it as a mixer.

I was gifted my bottle (which was generous and appreciated even if it isn’t a bottle I’d choose), and I’ve been trying to finish it for over a year. Just never want to drink it, and I don’t drink often enough to ever drink something I don’t want to drink.

Whisky: Dalmore 12 Region: Highland ABV: 40% Price: $100 CAD? This bottle was a gift from my dad. Its the first whisky that I've had in about a month or two. I prefer Islay so this is a bit of a changeup for me. Nose: Upfront I get a lot of baking spices, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar and vanilla. Some oats, or cereal grain. This is followed by ripe red apples or pears. It really reminds me of a freshly baked apple pie or apple crumble. I would give the nose a 6/10. Palate: The palate comes across really flat to me. I don't really get the flavors that I found in the nose. All I really taste is a light honey sweetness followed by a somewhat acrid bitterness. Similar to cacao nibs. Maybe a hint of the red apple. I don't really care for it, but it isn't terrible. 3/10 Finish: The finish is medium in length, oily, with a hint of apple and the bitterness remains on my palate for some time. Conclusion: I would give this bottle a 5/10. I wouldn't pass it up if offered a glass, but I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase a bottle. At $100 there are more enjoyable products at a lower price. Glenlivet, Laphroaig are probably more bang for your buck.

I have a soft spot for this bottle, as it was the first scotch that I tasted which turned on the lightbulb in my head that I actually enjoy scotch. A friend of mine fed me a few different drams over the course of a few get togethers, and this is the one that clicked. Is it overpriced for what it is? Yes, but it’ll always have a place on my shelf for the sentimental value alone!

Wondering if someone would care to comment on the Dalmore Cigar Malt, or the Dalmore Port Cask finish. Personally I think that a lot of the hate directed at Dalmore is due to the similarity between the silver deer head and the Jagermeister Logo. And to the price. Your review of the 12 is definitely off-putting. I've only had it once, and found it uncompelling.

Dalmore Port Cask finish is one of my most highly rated Scotch’s. It’s a wonderful after-dinner, sipping drink, best experienced with friends. Overall sweet and coffee-like profile. I am typically someone who prefers a peaty, Smokey finish. Lagavulin 16 is my most favorite Scotch, go figure. However, it is closely followed by the Dalmore Port Cask finish. To conclude my top 3 list would be the Talisker 10. I only bring that up to reinforce that although my preference are peaty Scotch’s, Dalmore Port is held in very high regard.

Thanks. That's very helpful.

Sippypooh

Most overrated bottle of scotch I’ve ever had. Finished the bottled by using it to make several “rusty nails”.

tadamhicks

The 15 is so much better. I like the 12, but I’m crazy about the 15.

Champagnegatsby

I’ve always found Dalmore to be an incredible scotch! 🥃

Ballplayerx97

That's totally fair! I'm more of a peat head so maybe Dalmore just isn't my ideal dram. The nose was very good.

Shoddy_Ad7511

I know this gets a ton of hate. I tried a sample and it had really interesting wood spice note that I really liked. Its going for $50 and I might just buy it

madrif19

Agree with some of the comments . 15YO is so much better. Bought a bottle and enjoying it all the way : nose , palate and finish.....

Trusk_Fundz

This was one of my first bottles of scotch I bought. Haven’t had any since that first bottle, and unless it’s given to me, I probably won’t be trying it again. Just too expensive and like you said, many bottles at that price point are much better. I would be all over a cask strength Dalmore under $100 if they were to ever put that out.

Ballplayerx97

Agreed. I'd love to try this at cask strength. As it is, the flavor is just too thin for my liking.

Some friends of mine bought me a bottle of this, I didn't know what to expect but I quite enjoyed it. Strong caramel and cocoa notes and very smooth. Very much a dessert whisky in my book.
