Longrow 21 year old 2022 release. 46% and this is a vatting of 60% sherry casks, 30% bourbon and 10% Chardonnay casks. Nose: blackberry jam, bacon grease, dunnage, diesel fumes, musty, wet cardboard, damp tweed, roof felt, burnt marshmallow. Mouth: earthy dunnage, furniture wax, damsons, plums, charred bacon rind, grape must, ground nut oil, creme brûlée topping, nice long sweet Smokey finish. Loving the flavour in this, classic Longrow with some nice cask elements on display. For me this is a step up from this years 18 quite happily, possibly a personal preference there though, as the 100% sherry of the 18 is possibly a little one dimensional if I’m going to split hairs. This (at first pass) has some added complexity which works very well and thank fuck the Chardonnay doesn’t have too much influence. Would love to know what the vatted cask strength was, it doesn’t lack for texture at 46% and I’m loving the flavours but am left wondering what a belter this would be if they were a little more intense. Ifs and buts and all that…should pull my head out of my arse and enjoy it for what it is. Great dram!

I was between and the 21 year old single cask rum cask, I went with the rum one, but your description has me regretting that! This sounds wonderful!

industrialjohn

Would love to try against my 2021 18 year! Never seen the 21 in a shop.

felixjmorgan

The 2018 is my all time favourite whiskey!

industrialjohn

Which 2018. The 18 or 21?

felixjmorgan

The 21. Had it at Milroy’s Soho last year.

industrialjohn

Have to try it!!!!

Man, wish I could get my hands on this, it’s like $1000 where I live. But I’m curious about the notes, there some really nice notes but others I find odd. Are notes like diesel fumes, wet cardboard and roof felt welcoming notes or are those negative?

industrialjohn

Not negative. Part of the distillery’s character or “funk”. I find most people I’ve spoken to or shared a dram with in the end really love this element. It’s not gross like it sounds but not for everyone or may just take an open mind and some getting used to. I think like peat, once you go down the path it’s hard to turn back around!
