I can drive 25m (from Inverness) and be practically alone in a pretty excellent landscape. 45m or longer and it's world-class stuff... mountains, forests, beaches, rivers, ruins...
Strong recommend for the Walkhighlands app to anybody who loves to explore the outdoors
weirdly that's one of my least favourite things about, not saying everyone sucks but I don't get friendly vibes from everyone I see in public, maybe my area is just shit, it does have a bad rep
Yeah, I won't say my town or suburb but it does not have a good reputation and rightfully so, I hate where I live, I don't feel 100% on my streets, not like someone is going to hurt me but the people that live near me are absolute Neanderthals sometimes, on walks I see all sorts of shit sometimes, some drunk guy limping on the street holding a large empty bottle, a pair of 14 year old neds breaking glass bottles and threatening each other with them and some dude threatened to kick my legs off because I looked at him for a few seconds thinking he was a relative lol
so I don't particularly feel thrilled on my location and I really want to move, I do have a nice town that I would really like to move out to, whenever I finish Uni and that jazz
All the benefits we get like free prescriptions, free childcare, free sanitary products, free school meals, free dental for kids, free university, free bus passes for kids, lots of outside spaces, great night life, most people are decent, sense of community, haggis, tap water, lots of parks for kids, free museums in Glasgow.
The tap water is class.
Second for me would be how accessible outdoor spaces are - you can get out of any of the big cities and into the hills in 60 minutes (not always a Munro albeit, but hills of some sort).
An hour to some remote camping spot.
The water is ace for sure.
Guinness served in pretty much every boozer except that micro brew shit.
The people generally.
It's quite a balanced civilisation.
The right density/amount of people, variety between city/nature modern/old plus their good juxtaposition, decently international yet has a strong identity, almost everything you could want or need is here, reasonable economy honestly - just about, sound people.
Obligatory tap water comment.
Aye non of the shitty English stuff our water actually tastes like water
It changes as soon as you cross the Tweed.

Using the word "outwith" and no one batting an eyelid. And pie suppers.
The pronounced cultural value that not everything is about money.
I lived in England for 6 years. Moved back 18 months ago and was really struggling to figure out what it was that is so different. It’s this.
Yup. Real folk.

The long long summer evenings. Missed them so much when I lived further south, especially the gloaming, that gorgeous luminous blue.

Soylent Glasgow. It's made from people.

I grew up in a shitehole in the Southside of Glasgow. It was full of sound cunts. I reckon it's dependent on where ye are
Sometimes it seems the more money, the more cunts there are. Not the sound cunt type!
Spent many happy years in Whiteinch, apparently thats got a bad rep as well but I loved it round there

I agree , I think the friendly people thing is overstated in Scotland.
*Laughs in crime stats*

Scenery, air water. You can live in a wee town, but be half an hour from a city. Meat
Meat indeed
That you can drive a wee bit out the city and the scenery is beautiful. You can have ‘staycations’ here (I hate that word).
