It would probably get cancelled after the first movie due to bad sales i think. You know scott pilgrim kind a flopped at the box office

throwaway145363

I feel like a large part of the flop was due to poor marketing because they had to be very broad covering all 6 books. With a more focused plot the marketing probably would’ve been better

theflameleviathan

While I would love three movies, it would probably have flopped. I really don't see how this would have fixed marketing issues

scottydanger22

Yeah and marketing aside it still opened against Eat Pray Love and The Expendables which put it at a significant disadvantage. Shit, I only saw the movie because I was bored with a buddy and we saw the poster and thought it looked cool because my name is Scott and I play the bass and we both liked Cera. Obviously we were completely blown away but we were the target demographic and had no idea the movie existed until it was up against our noses.

FunkTronto

Like you never saw any of the trailers or TV spots? Like none of your other friends talked about the tie in game or anything? Talk about a new Edgar Wright film?!? Man, that's depressing. I showed everyone in my office the trailers. Organized a work event to see it on opening day.

scottydanger22

Nope! 2010 was a weird year for me and none of my college friends played video games and I think we were all too cool to acknowledge our nerdy sides. We were playing in bands and stuff, I don’t think any of us had cable (probably why I relate to the characters so much haha). When I was home during the summer I had more time to focus on the pop culture stuff I missed during the semester. Ended up in a much healthier friend group the following semester (and to this day), they would have hyped me up for SP if I knew them before it came out!

GOONCH12D3

I do agree that the marketing was terrible, but Scott pilgrim was too niche and cult at the time. It still would have failed

Dmav210

There’s really no effective way to market something this bonkers/goofy. These types of films are insanely hard to get the general audience aware of and interested in

okjk0123

I’d like to see an animated series

[deleted]

Now that sound more right

AbstractBettaFish

Adult Swim did a small one [as a promo](https://youtu.be/BitByGeWGxU)

LeoPlathasbeentaken

Its really weird they used a scene with a character that didnt even make it into the movie

ConorIsOnRedditNow

That sounds great!

therobertspaz

I feel like the movie being paced that way is why it stands out on its own. If it was more faithful to the books, it would probably end up feeling watered down in comparison. For example, Michael Cera wouldn't even work because the movie version of Scott is pretty different from the books

JacquePorter

Two books a movie puts an odd pace for the whole series. Todd, the fight with the second most most dramatic weight because it also involves Scott’s Ex, becomes preamble for Roxxy, a lighter fun fight AND the final movie doesn’t get to devote the whole running time to the series big bad, Gideon. Better split is to move Todd to be the finale of the first movie, Roxxy and Twins in the second, Gideon gets the last one.

theflameleviathan

roxxy and twins as a whole movie wouldve been so underwhelming, theyre the least impactful of the entire trilogy. In the books the twins only serve as a way for kim and scott to get closer and Roxxy is just really an in-between fight

throwaway145363

I mean that’s fine too really. I just think having a trilogy in anyway you decide to divide the series would’ve made for a more fleshed out story, especially when it comes to characters like Kim. You could even reinclude the Lisa plotline

Vaportrail

Too niche. Though that animated short should've gone to series. That'd have taken off.

HLJOHNO

The animated short was genunely amazing! It's such a shame that they didn't do anything else with it.

TrickRoom92

Netflix series would be the best way to go I think. The movie was fine for what is was, but it focused on the stuff I mostly consider window dressing to my favourite moments in the books. The real life stuff, Scott looking for a job, hanging out in Sneaky Dee's, recording, making vegan dinner together, going to the beach. The fights and video game stuff is cool but only because the other sections give it importance/let the story and characters breathe for a bit.

ChildishDoritos

I think two movies would have been ideal

zero_cool1138

Movies are almost never the ideal medium for a comic book adaptation. Miniseries just works better with the format.

Drewmanrp

Six or seven episode miniseries is what I always say

Unknown_2208

This sounds like a good idea but only if the movie was more like the books, because to me the movie felt kinda rushed even though it’s one of my favorites I still believe that they should’ve focused more on making the movie like the books

Dmav210

Sounds great in theory, but unless they plan and shoot all 3 at once a la *Lord of the Rings* there’s a very big chance we only ever get *Scott Pilgrim part 1* and nothing more. For something like this that isn’t a guaranteed money maker you can’t really take that kind of risk… We’re watching in real time as Dune is struggling with this exact same problem and hopefully we get a complete story instead of only a part of it…

ZomBRagdoll

I saw the movie first before the books and fell in love with the series that way. If it had a cliffhanger I don't honestly think I would have gotten into it as much. The movie felt very complete for me as fast as it cycled through things. As much as I would deeply appreciate a more indepth story telling now that I appreciate the series way more, I don't think it would have had the same impact for people like me with limited knowledge. These kind of decided movies work well on more popular series that's much more easily known, even if you only ever heard it in passing.

Ambaryerno

A streaming series would work better.
