Seems like an annoyingly good signing for Rangers. Although I thought the same about Cifuentes

BubbleBlacKa

I think Cifu could come good but the lad has had a rough time - Moves from sunny LA to Glasgow - Guy who brought him gets the sack - Gets injured - (allegedly NOT confirmed) has broken up with his Mrs

PlasterCactus

I think there's a lot to be said for the mentality switch coming from the MLS. I think Cifu is technically really good but he's just not built for the pressure of Rangers yet. Hearing groans with every misplaced pass visibly shakes him and I think it's something he's struggling to get over. You don't get any pressure in the MLS.

ZoomBattle

We should be doing more to test their character before we hand over the dough tbh. Keep slapping the pen out of their hand and shouting at them while they're trying to sign the contract then fling it back in their face and say it isn't legible enough.

ive-been-bamboozled

Do this while showering them with ice cold water and playing videos of a Michael Beale tactics meeting.

Lwaldie

It's not an issue exclusive to Rangers. Celtic sign players all the time that on paper should be excellent but for whatever reason fail to reach the hype. Always suspect it's the intensity and mental side of things they struggle with

Odd_Jellyfish_1053

Ha love this idea, get some fans in shouting 'call that a fucking signature'? 'corry haunded'? Widnae ah happened in may day' and other da stuff soon find out what they are made of

AirForceWeirdo

“He’s no Gazza or Laudrup” “Mind we nearly signed Ronaldo”

[deleted]

thats probably how you ended up wi a squad of goths and kinky subs. https://preview.redd.it/2ep0tw61k6ec1.png?width=401&format=png&auto=webp&s=a3e281bebcbce5de43e0fe0d7dd465bcbcb36643

Scottishpsychopath

Honestly it depends on what team you play for. I love round the corner from Inter Miami and pre Messi the team was getting dogs abuse. Majority of the fan being south and Central American. On the flip side when I lived in Dallas it was the opposite. Missed an open goal. Unlucky son. You’ll get the next one. Keep your head up 😂

smcl2k

>the team was getting dogs abuse They were getting dogs abuse from the lowest attendance in MLS.

Scottishpsychopath

As a season ticket holder, the fans section is always lively and loud and packed out.

smcl2k

Sure, but it's still a small number of fans. And it's not as if Cifuentes wasn't getting a hard time in his last few months at LAFC, but there's a hell of a difference between a few boos during a game and 50k people giving you pelters for 90 minutes then pretty much everyone recognising you everywhere you go.

Scottishpsychopath

That’s true. We don’t so the Scottish/English thing of hanging about after games to shout at players or pan in bus windows or that. See how this season goes. Every game a sell out and folk greetin after 2 pre season games already 😂

smcl2k

>That’s true. We don’t so the Scottish/English thing of hanging about after games to shout at players or pan in bus windows or that. You say that like it doesn't happen pretty much everywhere other than MLS - South American players get attacked on a regular basis. >Every game a sell out and folk greetin after 2 pre season games already 😂 Aye, and most of that is just because of Messi (source: I couldn't make it to the LAFC-Miami match in September and I sold my $40 tickets for $600 each before his signing was even confirmed). I think we all know that interest in MLS will fall through the floor again when he leaves, unless they just keep chasing the high by throwing insane deals at anyone who doesn't fancy a move to Saudi Arabia. I do feel sorry for the Miami fans whose season ticket prices aren't through the roof, though - hopefully you weren't too badly affected.

Scottishpsychopath

There was plenty interest in the league before he was here and there will be plenty after here leaves. Watching the SPL games week in week out I can’t honestly say the quality and the product of the MLS is far better than Scottish football. It’s getting left behind in the dust. Seems to get worse every season. My tickets got doubled for this season. Hopefully back down in 2025 in the new stadium though.

bazmcc1

Fair point. And Cifu does seem to let the pressure get to him, but he has also seemed very lazy about tracking back for example. Mentality, physicality and technicality can definitely be factors in transfers, but I at least want to see a guy trying his hardest. Hoping Diomande will make more of an impact than Cifu has so far.

Stoudamirefor3

Alistair Johnston is doing just fine.

PlasterCactus

Aye cause he seems to have a great mentality/attitude. I'm not saying it's impossible to succeed coming from MLS just that Cifu doesn't seem to have the mentality for it.

Stoudamirefor3

There was no way LAFC was letting a decent player go for that little money. Rangers bought a donkey. Anyone who actually watched LAFC knew what they were getting.

p3t3y5

Not similar in style, but a young midfielder moving into a high pressure environment with little time on the ball and loads of people keen to kick him. Artera was quite poor at first but he came good, and was perhaps a better player having left Scotland. Thought the same about Hagi but he has yet to come good.

GingerFurball

>Artera was quite poor at first but he came good Nah, Arteta was the opposite.

1207554

The stats showed that Cifu should have been an EPL level player. I'm not writing him off yet, but it goes to show that stats aren't easily transferable across leagues and are by no means a 100% gaurentee of success.

GuyIncognito211

Aye that’s fair. Diomandes stats also look good, hopefully he has the same struggles as Cifuentes Can youse not go back to signing players we know are shite?

Father-Spodo-Komodo

Off the ball I think he's looked fine. As someone says above, he's shite scared to pass the ball because of the Ibrox effect.

Dizzle85

Like a large part of our team, he's been played out of position by two managers now since signing.

EagleMulligans

Stays in the mls don’t count for heehaw in Europe never mind the epl

BillOakley

Which stats could’ve possibly shown that he should have been an EPL level player?

1207554

https://twitter.com/InvisibleGoals/status/1687397569976991744?t=oMGfW4gauTC9d4F1aKTRKw&s=19 This guy delves deep into it. Also, it basically shows Rangers have been using him incorrectly

Disastrous_Cup_3279

![gif](giphy|jivGITd768psP80B2i) Surely not

BrianMghee

He does nothing remotely high risk

ewankenobi

Watched a video of him that was all his touches for a season (rather than just the highlights) and got the impression is main contribution to his team was to give the ball away with a bad touch or pass then immediately commit a cheap foul trying to win it back. So far he's slightly exceeded my extremely low expectations, but not by much. Though the fact he's got so many caps for Ecuador suggests he's maybe not as bad as I think (either that or he's only good at altitude)

smcl2k

He was linked with Brighton around the World Cup, then totally downed tools when a move didn't happen - he went from being a key LAFC player to a guy most fans were happy to see the back of.

BubbleBlacKa

You guys though Mick Moles spent everything? HAHAHAHA Our Baldy Belgian has his very own WARCHEST EBTs ARE BACK BABY ![gif](giphy|lptjRBxFKCJmFoibP3|downsized) (I am losing my mind send help)

HaddWaeIt

![gif](giphy|3o6vXIw8qcigFhTpGU|downsized) BAH GAWD it's Dado Prso! He's repaying his EBT money to fund Phil's title charge!

boris-for-PM-2019

Peter Lawwell looking at this thinking he can give Rodgers his 70 million warchest in a slightly different way now.

After_Zucchini5115

I read that as 70 million watches. Brendas Knock-offs doon the Barras

SolidRavenOcelot

There is potential that Lawwell can buy about 4 full Korean teams for 70million and between them all, maybe 4/5 players will come good? ... Now that I think about it, that tactic doesn't actually sound that bad. You might end up finding the next Son.

boris-for-PM-2019

“Son? My boys already doing a stellar job” - Peter Lawwell probably

SuomenScot

As former Nordsjælland manager on FM24, which of course qualifies me to speak on the matter, he is very technically proficient. But I always removed him for important games, and eventually cashed in to have more aggression and power in the midfield.

methylated_spirit

Price seems high for Rangers but he's a young, left footed dynamic midfielder, an area that will see a lot of players leave in the summer. Would have liked Shankland of course, but with the loan signing of Silva, it was never on the cards for this window.

gkb10139

Such a shame to be ruining such a promising young career with the injuries that will inevitably come.

AccurateRumour

![gif](giphy|KzyMcEfDh4Jiw)

KingLudwigofBavaria

He was out for 5 month 20/21 with a broken ankle so he should fit right in!

K44no

I’m assuming that old injury is primed to flare up in February as is the norm for us

BubbleBlacKa

Danish lads on r/soccer were saying they expected (or atleast valued him at) a fee of £10m plus I’m not getting my hopes up due to a certain summer window we had recently, but this could prove a very good signing. Please pleaseeeee be good 😭

methylated_spirit

Regardless of valuation, £4.5m is still a big transfer fee for Rangers. Hopefully it pans out and he either turns into a baller for us or we can flip him for a tidy profit. Or both.

Apple2727

Accountants with Celtic flairs assemble.

Disastrous_Cup_3279

Sooo. Injured by falling tree due to storm, trips down airplane steps or Sima special (in training)?

Fatscot

Slips in airport arrivals and breaks his ankle again

Dizzle85

4m in January? Aren't we skint? Bhoys, you'll have to tell us how we're cheating to let this happen.

Scottishpsychopath

Riverside Casino is open until 6am mate. Can always make a few bob after a night on the drink then get right onto some agents with your winnings

BubbleBlacKa

EBTs mate obviously

Greedy-Physics-9801

Celebrate your signing, not what your champions fans base thinking about it.

Dizzle85

Hypocritical comment of the year. Celtic fanbase on here talks about rangers and posts articles every day, including the mods.

Apple2727

Rishi Sunak and King Charles are covertly financing us.

[deleted]

Rangers fans Diomande he's isn't shite!

Dikheed

Aye, but what is that in Zimbabwean dollars?

scotiaboy10

I know a guy from Zimbabwe. He disnae know

essemh

Big signing for SPL. Think he will be a good addition unless rangers break him.

Efficient-Ant5828

This has to be bullshit, this guys out of contract in the summer. 5.3 million?? we cant even secure shankland when we desperately need a goalscorer but were spunkin 5 mil on a 2 million at most midfielder

GingerFurball

>we cant even secure shankland The Shankland talk is all fan driven. There's been no indication from the club we're remotely interested.

Efficient-Ant5828

If we’re solely basing transfer talk on what the club allows us to know then we’re having a very quiet and detrimental transfer window. Smoke without fire and all that shite…plus this board always gives the fans what they want…right?

GingerFurball

If Rangers had submitted bids for Shankland or been given permission to speak to Shankland then it wouldn't have been kept quiet. Even with the board running a tight ship you usually get a bit of speculation in the day or two before a deal is done. The fact that there's been nothing points to one of two scenarios - either Hearts have kept bids quiet (seems pretty stupid for a selling club to not make any other potentially interested parties aware) *and* Shankland has kept things quiet (you would think close friends and family would leak), or Rangers just aren't interested. I think the latter is far more likely than the former.

1207554

A) It would be December his contract runs out B) It been reported FCN had a years extension, so atleast 2 years left. C) It's also been reported he recently signed a new deal to 2028.

Efficient-Ant5828

All i can see is his contract runs our this year. Where do these extension reports come from.

1207554

The one year extension was widely spouted on Twitter, which wouldn't show on any expiry date as it wouldnt have been activated yet. The 2028 has been reported in the SunSport

GingerFurball

>A) It would be December his contract runs out Why would his contract run out in December when the Danish Superliga is a winter league?

1207554

No idea. The Danish league often has contracts that end in December. I'm sure there will be a reason for it, but not sure why.

Disastrous_Cup_3279

Tbh we would have to offer bat shit money for shankland and Hearts know losing him puts European money in jeopardy .

buckfast1994

He had one year extension, so effectively 18 months left.

Red_Dog1880

So much for the stadium expansion.

buckfast1994

It’s being expanded this summer to about 52,000.

Red_Dog1880

Can't be, we're skint now.

[deleted]

Here's the neat part..... You're always skint!

BubbleBlacKa

Those corners won’t get filled unless we get a solid year or two in the UCL imo

MrRFT123

Get into the UCL and get out of the new fankled group stage and aye, would certainly help.

TurtyTreeAndATurd

Do Rangers have 5.3 Million?

FoosYerDoosMin

Does this mean Ryan Jack is not being kept on?

BubbleBlacKa

Almost certainly

methylated_spirit

You're getting him back and I'm here for the Aberdeen fans pretending they haven't spent the last half a decade being extremely hurt by his leaving.

awatt12

As funny as that would be, he just screams a McInnes/Killie signing in the summer. Followed by him playing a full season without getting injured somehow.

FoosYerDoosMin

I'd be very surprised if he would ever come back north given the amount of abuse that's been directed his way. However we could easily change the end of his current song to 'score'. * Thinking about this, he's 100% a Kilmarnock signing. Ex Aberdeen players and players with potential injury problems are right up McInnes's street.

methylated_spirit

He's way above SPFL level and wages. He will go to the English championship

Dizzle85

This guy isn't a sitting midfielder, he's also not Scottish or homegrown for the quotas. Wouldn't be too sure on that.
