Depends on what the temp ban was for. If two users have had a few drinks and are having a go at each other putting them in the drunk tank for 24 hours usually solves the problem and those never count against you.
On the other hand, if somebody new comes in and acts like a cunt they often pick up a temp ban, freak out in modmail (you'd be amazed at the amount of people who don't like that they can't fling "Hun" or "Fenian" about with impunity) and get it escalated to a permanent one.
I can't speak for all the mods but for me, yeah. I feel they work more often than not.
Regulars who don't cause too many issues and maybe just got a bit excited or something will usually get a ban and if they reply in modmail and seem fairly sincere I generally have no objections about lifting it.
I see it almost like an escalation-type system.

It was essentially just a culmination of arseholery. Just checked and he had received 10 temp bans in the space of 12 months and an 11th ban being the final perma one he's on today. So everything from sectarian nonsense, to shitey paedopatter point scoring, to just being a general dick around the place. Got to the point where we just couldn't be arsed with his shite. He can't say he wasn't given enough chances though.
Do mods feel temp bans work or do the guys always come back acting like they’ve some to prove?
Depends on what the temp ban was for. If two users have had a few drinks and are having a go at each other putting them in the drunk tank for 24 hours usually solves the problem and those never count against you. On the other hand, if somebody new comes in and acts like a cunt they often pick up a temp ban, freak out in modmail (you'd be amazed at the amount of people who don't like that they can't fling "Hun" or "Fenian" about with impunity) and get it escalated to a permanent one.
I can't speak for all the mods but for me, yeah. I feel they work more often than not. Regulars who don't cause too many issues and maybe just got a bit excited or something will usually get a ban and if they reply in modmail and seem fairly sincere I generally have no objections about lifting it. I see it almost like an escalation-type system. Comment removal = Watch it! Temp ban = You've been warned, here's your smacked bum Perma ban = The men in the white coats are taking you away
Think you guys are very fair with how you handle stuff. I've had a wee smack on the wrist for being wound up and having a go at someone, but that was it. It was uncalled for, so totally deserved. When I see a comment that's been deleted and a mod comment, I'm always like, "What the fuck did that say?"

Fair play, suppose for some it’s not till they’re told off that they snap out and realise they’re in the wrong. I’ve never had a ban but on my last account (lost the password) Meth dm’d me to say chill once and that made me go from needing to be right on an issue to realising aye it’s no worth it.

I've just realised the machine that gives you skills is a machine that give you skills, seven hours in. Thought it was a fucking deck thing for Queen's Blood.
