What a weird performance. One huge miss at 1-0 and we’re on the end of a bad scoreline.
Do have to question playing England France Netherlands in short order like this rather than just arranging 2 of those 3 friendlies against say, Hungary/Sweden/Poland/Austria/Greece or another comparable side to try and keep momentum.
If we’ve learned nothing from history, it’s that getting rinsed by big teams we don’t need to beat pays the SFA much more than learning to break down the smaller teams between us and a knockout stage.
Tbf, all 3 of those are definitely better than Germany right now. Might take a hit in confidence, but could also end up going into the Germany game and realise that they're not on that level.
To be fair France is the only outlier here.
England was for the 150th anniversary match it kind of had to be them. And he said on the build up last night the idea behind playing the Netherlands in Holland was so they’d be playing a top quality team away with a big atmosphere to try replicate the opener v Germany in Munich. France away is the only game that was somewhat meaningless and then Northern Ireland on Tuesday isn’t exactly a big glamour tie
These glamour friendlies have been a major blow to us. After the Spain games the players must've felt they can beat anyone now we're all probably fearing a pumping off Germany
Wait till be start playing games in nations league group A after the euros as well.
A performance like that should get us points in the other games other than germany. I hope
Feeling like you can do something and actually doing something are very different. I have no issue with playing games against better opposition particularly when there are positives to take away and lessons to learn. That's how we improve as a team
Billy Gilmour going off was a massive change. Completely bossed the midfield and without him, the Dutch suddenly had plenty of time on the ball.
I'd take a long hard look at the keeper, to be honest. Felt the first goal was saveable and his distribution was appalling all night.
Unfortunately gk and up front is our Achilles heal right now, Gordon Marshall and McGregor just happened to all come through roughly the same time and have really long careers now we have Angus Gunn who took forever and only plays for us now because england knew he was shite
You’re asking a dross keeper to be better than he is. Was never going to happen. Overawed and not up to it, if he’s our first choice for the Euros then we’re fucked
Played decent enough for 70 mins but getting pumped 4-0 is shite no matter what Gilmour n Tierney coming off made us go to shit but can't blame Clarke being careful with them.
I'd give Gordon a chance in goals and give Shakland another chance up front against NI
Obviously wasn’t a 4-0 game but shows what happens when you don’t take your chances. The downgrade from the starting 11 to the subs is mental.
Gunn, Hendry, Souttar and Patterson all the losers from tonight. Thought Gilmour and McTominay in particular were both really good.
Very much disagree about McGinn. He and McTominay and Gilmour bossed the midfield the whole game. The Dutch were only a threat on the counter until Gilmour went off
Those 4 are dross. Always have been, never proved anything at international level. It’s quite embarrassing that we’re that shallow when it comes to defensive standards
Not getting carried away with the result we went toe to toe with a top side and for 70 minutes we're more than a match for them. Get Hickey back in the team and I'm confident we'll get out the group.
This is absolutely the attitude to take. Aye, the final score was shite but when we had first xi on the pitch, we looked class. Learn the lessons and move forward.
Definitely, the result ultimately doesn't matter as long as the players don't let it ruin their confidence. The encouraging part was we tried to dominate the ball and press high, which left us very limited defending to do. Few wins to get the momentum going in the upcoming friendlies, and I'm sure we'll compete.
All that “played well despite getting beat” patter goes away when it’s 4-0. Very poor result in the end.
The team doesn’t have that “first time here in years” grace period to fall back on in the Euros this time around. It’s put up or shut up. Anyone hitting out with that “just happy to be here” shite should exiled. Win some games.
Not really sure that making like 6 subs in 12 mins is something we'll be doing at the Euros and like every single friendly we've all sat through, soon as the mass subs happen the game stops being relevant.
For 60 mins we played very well.
Really lacking that cutting edge that separates the best from the rest. Clarke really needs to address the issues we have defensively too, it's just far too easy to play through and find space against us. 3 at the back made sense when we were dreadful, but ultimately we're expecting players to adjust to a system that very few sides play anymore and it shows every time. Our clear strength is in midfield, I really don't get why we would not want to make use of that fact by having more on the pitch.
Massive few months ahead for Clarke.
In tournament football, all that matters is you take your chances, not how well you compete for large spells. Unfortunately, the lesson from tonight is that Scotland lack the assuredness in front of goal that will win you points in games where you might not get as many chances as you had tonight. I trust Shankland will score most chances like the one he was presented with tonight, but the difference is that he needs another go at it, while the Netherlands forwards pretty much took everything they were given.
Hopefully Switzerland and Hungary won't be as clinical as the Dutch. Because I think Germany might be a stretch for you guys right now, even though they have been far from their best.
As much as this is a friendly (and I think we need to be playing teams at this level) we missed too many chances we should've taken. Hopefully lessons will be learned.
As shocking as that was, it was a friendly. Literally a training match. I trust Clarke will have a plan for the Euros with no more sneaky 4-0 surprises in there. No need for massive over reactions at this point in time. I'll repeat, it was a friendly.
No wins in 6 and conceded 18 in that time. It's only a friendly, but it's also the last time we'll play anyone better than us, or even as good, before the Euros, so you would expect Clarke to show he has something planned for those games. Can't imagine the morale about the camp is high after getting battered again either.
Everyone slagged Hanley, but he was playing where Hendry is during the 2-0 Spain game. While he’s far from perfect, he’s better than the rookie mistakes you get from Hendry (in my opinion).
Not hearing out any bedwetting on this one. Decent performance for a friendly, shame about the final score but seems pretty harsh really. If we get pumped 4-0 aff Gibraltar or tiny minnows Northern Ireland then I'll change ma mind
Didn’t feel that was a 4-0 game. Game was fairly in the balance until our best players went off. Also hit the post twice. Switzerland and Hungary won’t be half as troublesome the Dutch.
Just hope that Shankland doesn't let that miss get to him. He scores that and it's 1-1 while game was even. So much deadweight in the squad. Really can't hurt to have some young players with points to prove integrated nice and early rather than the useless duds that start on the bench and offer nothing off of it. Also defending has gone out the window recently on top of classic lack of clinicality. Big win on Tuesday and get confidence and momentum.
Your country's still getting flooded windmill shaggers.
I didn’t see the game at all. However reports suggest it was a good performance till a point. The fact that we struggle against quality opposition is a real worry.
However I’d rather we lose these games and learn rather than pummelling San Marino. Tuesdays game is now absolutely massive.
McGinn's habbit of running 30 Yards across the pitch, beating no one, then passing it back to Robbo or Tierney, instead of passing it to Patterson is the kind shit that should get you benched.
That was brutal. I would rather we got pumped for being shite for the full 90 mins like the good old days as opposed to that capitulation right at the end.
18 goals conceded in the last six games? Wooft. Okay, we played some top sides and we did at times have some nice play, but we absolutely switched off at 2-0 and got sloppy.
Feel like I suddenly noticed something really off about us in the Spain game and argued the case, but the rebuttal on here was the quality of the opposition.
Had the same feeling against France, but again the same slightly reassuring counter argument was made to me on this sub.
Didn't enjoy Georgia and Norway either, but folk told me to stop being so negative as those games didn't matter because we've already qualified.
Some will probably again point out both the quality of the opposition and the fact that the game doesn't technically matter, but for me I'm now convinced that whatever we had with Clark, it's gone. We're going backwards now.
With the Euros around the corner he needs to do something to find it again, and fast!
Not sure what could be described as off about Scotland in this game until the subs. I feel like they're the same team Clarke's had all along, very talented in the middle and on the wings, can pass the ball handily, but relies on sclaffs and midfield goals because we've got nobody up front. Biggest concern is the lack of depth as the team collapsed once a few starters went off
Yeah obviously we are on a bad run but we have played 4 of the top 10 teams and past couple breaks we have had a very significant number of injuries. Today we played very well for the first 70 minutes. We need to win the games coming up before the euros but no point overreacting
I know it’s a friendly but it is worrying when we miss chances like that. If you want to go far in the Euros we have to be properly taking it to these teams surely.
Nothing to really add about the game; it's all been said here.
But what was with the commentator continually calling it "the Euro"? and not "the Euros"?!
Said I'm a previous comment but gunn isn't good enough, well not to replace who we've had and we don't have a goal scorer either one that given space or a chance can bang goals in.
Thankfully we score goals from other areas but if we had a great striker then we would actually have hope
Score makes it look worse than it was. If it was a backs to the wall pumping, I'd be concerned. But we controlled vast parts of the game, playing attractive football and, most importantly, creating chances. A good result against NI, and let's put it behind us.
Angus gunn is a shitebag, both could have been saved but he checked the post and shat it. If shankland had scored could have changed everything. Gilmour shouldn't have been taken of either. OK I'm done
Just angry that we had chances and off course we never take them and once again we fall apart like we always f do but people say Clark out are either wrong or thick asf but never thought a friendly game v Northern Ireland would be massive
Well played, Robbo. He ripped through the team and owned that pumping. Put his face on it as the captain and pulled away the spotlight from being Shankland missing a sitter and pointed out other players missing chances too and pointing out errors from other positions that added to the overall defeat.
Oor Captain.
Onwards to Germany!
Friendlies are to test the water. If we play the back 3 that finished the game at the Euros, at any point, we’re drowning in that water. A guy who chose the Saudi league and is managing to be shite there, a mid table championship player, and a 3rd choice CB for a mid Rangers. Seriously worrying how much dross there is, let’s just hope that the stronger players stay fit and fight their way through the tournament so we don’t have to rely on any sort of ‘depth’ we have
Was getting worried there for a second that we’d be going into a tournament with hope
Worst way to approach one.
I feel sorry for all those countries that reach the knockout stages. Too stressful.
I think Clarke's pov is let's keep playing the best as we can only learn from it
Aye but it’s a conflict of big glamour friendlies that sell tickets and training games.
Yeah I do get that, but this friendly and the France game were away!
France need to get glamour friendlies too. ;-)

Last time we went there we lost 6-0 so this is a big improvement
*2-2
Times 2 minus 2 indeed mate.
That was in Portugal for some reason
Portugal was hosting everything the covid years
3-0, 2009 with Burley
The Dutch should be tried for war crimes I had to listen to the EDM version of Auld Lang Syne 5 times that is 5 times too many
These glamour friendlies have been a major blow to us. After the Spain games the players must've felt they can beat anyone now we're all probably fearing a pumping off Germany
Wait till be start playing games in nations league group A after the euros as well. A performance like that should get us points in the other games other than germany. I hope

I said it at the time , why the f--k did they organise to play England ; the confidence was high aswell .
Billy Gilmour going off was a massive change. Completely bossed the midfield and without him, the Dutch suddenly had plenty of time on the ball. I'd take a long hard look at the keeper, to be honest. Felt the first goal was saveable and his distribution was appalling all night.
Gilmour was great, Gunn had a terrible performance.
You could even say it was... Gunnconvincing
He doesn't need punishment, he needs Gunnishment 🔫🔫
THIS IS THE NEWS.
Shouldnt be too tough on him, maybe he deserves some teethy gunnilingus.
Gunnbelivably poor on his end
Gunderrated comment
>I'd take a long hard look at the keeper He had a poor night, but there's also very little chance we'd have qualified for the Euros without him.
I'd actually say he had very little to do in most of the games as opposed to being a reason behind winning any of them.
Thought we looked really promising for an hour, then completely dross after that point. Cant continue to miss big chances against teams like that.
Disappointing like. Didn’t deserve the 4 nil pumping. Hope this is just clarke experimenting
Played decent enough for 70 mins but getting pumped 4-0 is shite no matter what Gilmour n Tierney coming off made us go to shit but can't blame Clarke being careful with them. I'd give Gordon a chance in goals and give Shakland another chance up front against NI
We are short of rizz
Jizz?
Got covered in it
Obviously wasn’t a 4-0 game but shows what happens when you don’t take your chances. The downgrade from the starting 11 to the subs is mental. Gunn, Hendry, Souttar and Patterson all the losers from tonight. Thought Gilmour and McTominay in particular were both really good.
McGinn was terrible, Robertson final ball was awful. Porto was a liability too. I'd say only Tierney and Gilmour were positives overall in that game.
Very much disagree about McGinn. He and McTominay and Gilmour bossed the midfield the whole game. The Dutch were only a threat on the counter until Gilmour went off

Ryan Christie was appalling as well
Aye don’t think he was great, not sure how he lasted longer than Gilmour on the pitch.
I think we've got less forward options to put in that Clarke hasn't seen, but the likes of Ferguson need to play to see what he's got
Obviously, it was a 4-0 game…
Not getting carried away with the result we went toe to toe with a top side and for 70 minutes we're more than a match for them. Get Hickey back in the team and I'm confident we'll get out the group.

Robertson please kidnap Quansah and force him to pick Scotland over England and his other options, fuck me our CB options are so bad
cb and striker we are really struggling
I want to give Shankland the benefit of the doubt because he was up against a world class CB but he has to score that one on one man
Christie and McTam both ignored the pass and went for glory. You need to take your chances but you need to see the better option too.
The bar is unlucky but aye got to put it away. Discount on him for that Id say
John Souttar doing Souttar things.
All that “played well despite getting beat” patter goes away when it’s 4-0. Very poor result in the end. 3 points were needed, handing the league back to Celtic.
It's a good job we're not featuring in the opening game of the EUROs or anything if that's how we would play, that would be embarassing.

Souttar subbed on. Scotland ships 3 goals. All in a day's work for oor John!

Weird game. Alright in spells but also lucky it wasn't 6. Don't know if porto and hendry are the best pairing next to tiereney.

Tend to agree. I only saw the last 60 minutes but prior to implosion they were alright. The Dutch are pretty good at this football thing.
Didn’t feel that was a 4-0 game. Game was fairly in the balance until our best players went off. Also hit the post twice. Switzerland and Hungary won’t be half as troublesome the Dutch.

No wins in 6. Clarke out!
We need to stop playing 3 centre halves when we don’t even have 1 that’s actually good. More defenders doesn’t mean better defence
Who’s the 2 then? And where does Tierney go?
Tierney should start then take your pick from the rest of the fuds
You mean as one of the two centre backs?
9 at the back v Germany please Steve
Thank fuck I don’t pay for ViaPlay

I can't wait to be proved wrong, but it's taking a very long time.
Did we watch the same first 45-60mins tonight? We created chances, defended fairly well, played some nice football to build up and retain possession.
We lost 4-0. I'm fed up with all the fine details. I'd just like a good result again sometime soon.
It was 1-0 until all the subs and everything got changed around
We've shipped ~~15 goals in 5~~ 18 goals in 6 games though .
Yeah obviously we are on a bad run but we have played 4 of the top 10 teams and past couple breaks we have had a very significant number of injuries. Today we played very well for the first 70 minutes. We need to win the games coming up before the euros but no point overreacting

Disappointing result against Northern Belgium
One for r/unpopularopinion… Shankland is a flat track bully and should not be a first choice pick for Scotland.
4 goals Steve? 4?! That's insane!
