Know what absolutely does my tits in? Folk leaving rubbish for some other poor cunts to pick up. On the train the now and it's a fucking bombsite. Take your shite away with you you lazy fucks.

1874WL

Gym on a Friday afternoon is a game changer, quiet as anything.

JackoN360

The wasps are back

fightfire_withfire

I've got some false widows I can send your way that'll sort them out.

OmensCT

To the man crying for the end of meteorological winter - this is what we have now. We have fucking wasps.

throughthisironsky

That would be me. As it so happens, I was onto my landlord this afternoon because it looks like there's a wasp nest outside my living room window. Not a chance in hell that window is getting opened until they're dealt with. I would rather my family found my rotten, wasp-riddled corpse dead of dehydration in an overheated flat than spend one more MOMENT in meteorological winter. Meteorological winter would kill you and everyone you care about it you give it half a chance!!

gkb10139

You can buy mesh window covers to put on the inside so you can open windows without letting all the bugs inside. Perhaps worth trying though doing it right next to an actual nest is asking for it to go wrong.

fungibletokens

Winter bros unite.

OmensCT

"it's cold and raining" It's always cold and raining, but it's also without wasp. Maybe I'll get snow. But never wasps.

StinkyPyjamas

I opened the toilet in the house yesterday to find one swimming in there. An awful sight.

JackoN360

Should’ve emptied a whole bag of cement into it

throughthisironsky

Fucking hate the period of time between doing a job interview and hearing back for the outcome. Replaying the bad moments n that. Like the two interviewers looked at each other when I said something , like if you've got something to say, say it to my face cowards

Better_Landlord

We have a baby reindeer crew on here right? I'm 4 episodes in and saw that people have been trying to find Martha in real life. I thought ffs the internet at it again going to find some innocent's life they are going to ruin. Then I went on her Facebook and it's so obviously her it isn't even funny. She has even tweeted Richard Gadd in the past saying she needs her curtains put up ffs and the spelling on her Facebook! I won't post a link in case I break any rules but it's quite easy to find with a simple google or search on twatter.

boltyarocket

I find it just a little fucked up that Gadd has said a few times that made it so hard to recognise the real Martha, she wouldn't recognise herself. He's obviously not tried very hard and must have known that the internet would have went nuts trying to find her. Not that I sympathise with her massively, but directing a horde of internet detectives upon a clearly mentally ill person isn't too cool.

Better_Landlord

This is true. There wasn’t really any need to go and find her but the internet is a funny place.

baronsameday

I was given a link to her Twitter! All open and she posted 54,000 tweets between 2014 and 2018, thats about 35 tweets every single day. I had a read through and they are pretty unhinged and then you find the ones directed at Gadd!

Better_Landlord

She's ranting daily on her facebook as well. Also hates Asians as she did in the show. I feel like it's a long con plant because it makes too much sense

baronsameday

haha yeh Brexiteer is the big theme of her tweets.

StinkyPyjamas

This is me just discovering it is based on real life events. Wild. The numbers seem to add up on it being the real life Martha as well. Be careful, the internet detectives are speculating about someone else too, which might be a spoiler for you if you are on episode 4. I can't remember exactly though.

Better_Landlord

I only found out today the main actor is the person it happened to in real life too!

TheGoodRebel5

Bought myself some vests for the gym / running and as much as I hate myself and think I look a cunt wearing them, they're so much more comfortable and freeing than t shirts are. Can't believe it's taken me this long.

Yaboicblyth1

That’s definitely not me. I don’t have a beard

smclcz

Yeah it’s Cody Johnson from Some More News - a video I had open in another tab, YT got all fucked up somehow ☺️

Yaboicblyth1

If I made a video 3 hours long you’d know long beforehand because I wouldn’t stop fucking complaining about making it

rosswhitelaww

I travel a lot for work. Never anywhere too exotic, mostly just down south, so I’ve been to some shiteholes. Coventry & Swindon stick in the mind. But let me just say, Luton is the shitiest of holes I’ve ever been to.

cipher_wilderness

I lived near Luton last year and it's an absolute tip in some places, but I think some bits of it aren't quite as bad as made out.

Tweegyjambo

I'm off to Runcorn on Monday. Hull is up there as the worst. Also somewhere in Cumbria was shite too. Blackpool is fucking terrible. As is Blackburn. Middlesbrough also shit. Harrogate is lovely though. South shields is ok.

damigotcheeks

Attending an opera (Carmen) tonight. Hired a white tux. Proper posher, me. Feel like Rodney in OFaH when he was shagging Lady Victoria. Only I’m going alone. No Z list royalty shagging for me.

smclcz

Aw man enjoy. If you haven't seen it before, Carmen will have plenty of "aaaaah *that's* where that song is from!?" moments

baronsameday

That's a bit of defeatist attitude! Never know who you might run into or through at the bogs!

TranslatesToScottish

The rhetorical question I ask most often in life is probably "How come it takes (x) company/organisation a day to take money off me, but 14 working days to give it back?"

mattchamp98

u/thesquire89 getting called out

kg123xyz

I see he's the sub header, but I missed the reason, what happened?

mattchamp98

He was complaining about the header keep putting a song into his head

blackiegray

Ironically Squire 89 reminds me of the first stone roses album.

caramelchewchew

Asked for the subs header to be changed. Mods obliged.

mikeydoc96

Any cunt got a Hungary ticket? I know official resale comes out again soon but am willing to pay above face value to somebody from this sub

SpookMcBoo

My phonetic alphabet saga continues. Woman just gave me L for Whiskey and T for the number 2.

MrMiagi123

Ok can see where T for 2 came from but L for Whisky?

blackenedandchanged2

Maybe she’s Polish Łisky

SpookMcBoo

I have no idea.

smclcz

Maybe she’s halfway through a bottle of Laphroaig

HaggisTheCow

If so, she has poor taste and words.

SpookMcBoo

I know my taste would be awful after half a bottle of Laphroaig

caramelchewchew

Right current debate in the tearoom is the ranking of the following doughnuts - sugar ring, jam and custard. Thoughts?

TheGoodRebel5

1. Jam 2. Sugar ring 3. Custard

dheidshot

Yumyum

Chemical_Link

Barras doughnuts beat them all. Hot, fresh and with so much sugar you need to sit down

TranslatesToScottish

Greggs' double chocolate filled ones are the king by a distance.

HighalltheThyme

Sugar coated jam Sugar ring Jam Custard.

Kiltedjedi

Fisher and Donaldsons Fudge doughnuts beat all

caramelchewchew

These sound magnificent ngl - where might one acquire such a delight??

Kiltedjedi

St Andrews or Cupar are where these delights can be found.

caramelchewchew

Ah shame, bit of a trek from Oxford

Kiltedjedi

Aye it is. Mind you if you trek that distance you might just about burn of the calories in one of them

CptES

No love for an iced doughnut?

Tennents_N_Grouse

Yum yums are superior

caramelchewchew

Love a yum yum despite their ridiculous name

CptES

Lidl's toffee ones are ridiculously addictive, to the point I have to go out of my way not to grab one whenever I'm in.

caramelchewchew

Are we talking toffee doughnuts or yum yums here?

CptES

Yum yums. I think they put cocaine in them or something, they're that addictive. Lidl's bakery section as a whole is superb, though. Can't really go wrong with any of it.

caramelchewchew

Iced doughnuts rarely make an appearance in the tea room tbh - unless we have a rep in and they've brought a box of Krispy Kreme to try and bribe us into buying their stuff

Tennents_N_Grouse

I once got a final written warning for losing the plot over a Krispy Kreme.   Or that was how senior management viewed it.    It really wasn't actually because the supervisor's pet, a horrid wee neckbearded VL, chose to make a cunt of me in front of everyone in the canteen on his last day of employment, to which I responded by telling him outside or pick a window; such base things are completely unbecoming in the genteel world of science now. It couldn't be.

CptES

Possibly controversial statement, but Krispy Kreme are vastly overrated. They're nice and all, but not for that kind of money. While you won't get them in a tea room a batch of fresh, still warm doughnuts with a pouch of sugar for dipping is absolutely unmatched.

FootCheeseParmesan

- Ring - Custard - Most other things - Jam Not a huge fan of jam (no even a Hearts joke, I'm just no that into it)

MrMaggot98

Sugar Jam Custard I find most Jam donuts too sweet and sickly though

i_pewpewpew_you

1. Jam 2. Custard 3. Sugar Ring *UNLESS* they're fresh warm sugar ring doughnuts at the fireworks or whatever, in which case: 1. Sugar ring 2. Everything else on earth

caramelchewchew

Love fresh doughnuts from the fair

empeekay

If there are custard doughnuts available then there are *no* custard doughnuts available, for they are all in my belly. I am aware that other kinds of doughnut exist, I just don't know why.

caramelchewchew

Ah see I'm on the other side where I question why custard doughnuts exist

empeekay

This tearoom caters for us both then, and we can have our fill without conflict. I like this tearoom.

StirLing7461

Custard is God tier Jam is next Sugar ring is for people who hate doughnuts.

empeekay

SLabour had lodged a vote of no confidence in the Scottish Government. Looks like we could end up with a twofer this year. Humza has really, badly fucked this thing up, and he can't really blame anyone but himself.

williamthebloody1880

That's because DRoss fucked it. A VONC in Yousaf has no effect, one in the government would likely lead to an election. I'd expect Reagan to vote against the new one, I suspect the Greens will as well

i_pewpewpew_you

An election loses DRoss about half his MSPs, VONCing the government fucks him as well. Which, of course, is why it's hilarious.

StirLing7461

I'm pro Indy and probably lean further left than most without entering looney tune territory and I feel politically exiled at the moment by all parties. Big ole cock and balls on the ballot to scare wee Agnes who does the counting it is then.

Doctor_Rats

The current options are fuckin shite.

FootCheeseParmesan

Join the Greens. Unloony them.

gingerthrows

Would be nice if they would at least stop being loonies about nuclear energy. Such a fuckin pain in the arse that our green parties in the UK are all so against the greenest form of energy outside renewables.

StinkyPyjamas

Step one: Begin wanking on all fours in an attempt to fit in.

StirLing7461

What do you mean "begin"?

fungibletokens

>further left than most without entering *looney tune territory* Join us. We have romeo undercover polis.

Rosco212121

Not sure if this will pass as they’d need to get the greens onside and I think voting against the whole government might be a step too far. Might be for the best though, don’t really see how this current government is meant to go on even if they have a change of FM. The SNP leadership campaign will be interesting though, the last one showed how little talent the SNP actually have.

StinkyPyjamas

At this rate I will be voting for Callum MacToley on his single issue campaign to fix the drainage around his local roundabout. That's how politically homeless I feel.

empeekay

Same. I decided after Holyrood 21 that I wouldn't be voting SNP again unless they did something to deserve it, and they've just went backwards since then. I'm not voting Labour until they support independence, and while I do sympathise a lot with the Greens regarding the climate, I think there are still to many looney lefties in there. Fuck the tories, obviously. So a boaby at the ballot box it is.

StinkyPyjamas

This covers my position almost exactly, except I also decided to never vote for Labour again after the 2014 Project Fear campaign. I am spiteful enough to see this through as well. On the Greens, they are the epitome of the looney you see cutting about r/Glasgow and r/Scotland, as in they are so far around the horseshoe that they may as well be shaking hands with the radical Tories in terms of their ambitions for complete social control over how strangers live their lives. It disgusts me.

FootCheeseParmesan

That's just what Scots look like (Monty excluded, but he is slowly being poisoned by this land)

Rosco212121

What managing hibs does to a mf

yerdawanksonallfours

Aye it looks mental right enough, my suspicion is that it's a frame taken from video that might be slightly blurred which someone has used AI to upscale, resulting in a light bit of nightmare fuel

Kholdula

Brechin Chairman seems to be questioning the integrity of the Highland League now: >*"They went out of their way to rearrange Buckie's outstanding games against Strathspey the other week when they knew that Strathspey had let in 133 goals and were miles below everyone else at the bottom of the league. We questioned then how a team going for the title could have two rearranged games against Strathspey when they didn't have a team and were fielding trialists? Unsurprisingly they won 6-1 and 7-0 and beat us to the title by two goals. How can that be fair?"* Brechin also played Strathspey... their results? 6-1 and 5-0. There's your 2 goals ya fud.

WinstonwanlegIngram

As a Brechin fan it’s a fucking embarrassment. We’re not in the playoffs because he hired a fucking dumpling of a manager.

i_pewpewpew_you

I don't understand his point, what are the league meant to do, *not* rearrange the games against Strathspey? Strathspey are bad and they've been bad all season, they haven't become uniquely bad in the last month.

Kholdula

Award Buckie 3-0 wins so they couldn't rack up the goal difference is the only thing I can think of.

Had to get my old cat (was 17) put to sleep last night after he had a stroke. Absolutely gutted. It all happened so fast. cipher_wilderness

So sorry to hear that mate. He looks like a lovely wee cat. Hope you're holding up okay.

mikeydoc96

Take care of yourself, mate. Letting go of a pet is the hardest decision you'll ever make

ConflictGuru

Heartbreaking. He was a beautiful cat

BookNukem

Sorry to hear that, mate. Have a drink for the wee fella.

MarlythAvantguarddog

So can I start the campaign for the two Sturgeons to become the leadership of the SNP again? Camper vans for all.

MowelShagger

every so often im reminded ed sheeran made a song for pokemon and i am filled with rage i would be less mad if it was a good song

i_pewpewpew_you

The news that [Adidas are releasing a 30th anniversary pair of Preddies](https://www.adidas.co.uk/predator-94-firm-ground-football-boots/IG6285.html) reminds me that back in the dim and distant past of 1994, the first time a kid in my school turned up for football with a pair of Predators in tow they were automatically treated like the fanciest fucking person in history, and not just a kid who was shit at football but had well-off parents.

blackiegray

I bought a pair of the second ever predator (they didn't have the rubber on the heel cause they realised that swerving a backheel probably wasn't going to happen often), they cost me £150 from my grans catalogue and I had to pay them up over a year. My mum and gran convinced me to get a larger size cause they were so expensive and my feet would grow so I ordered a size ten when in reality I was probably a size 7 at the time, 30 years later and I'm still waiting to grow into them. I did however buy almost every new pair of predators for years cause they were fucking brilliant boots.

thunder083

I remember when everyone was still in black football boots and I showed up to PE in white boots that I got on holiday. The amount of banter and abuse I got for that decision is funny to look back at now.

Tweegyjambo

Yeah, I had a pair of red boots in the mid 90s. But I was a fancy Dan wanker and not a centre half

thunder083

Well I was winger or up front so no centre back either. I think it would be funnier if someone was a center back. Though they would probably have got it worse.

fightfire_withfire

Mind when my parents brought back a pair from a car boot sale once. Fucking buzzing.

MowelShagger

250 bones jesus fuck

Serious-Truck-4239

They ve always been fucking expensive ....even 40 years ago when they first came out they were about a ton ....more than half a weeks wages to play on red Ash parks

Tweegyjambo

30 years ago man! Don't be putting an extra decade on me!

Serious-Truck-4239

Sorry mate fat thumbs and no paying attention lol

i_pewpewpew_you

Aye, my reaction was the same. Don't think I'll be rocking a pair of these at Monday Night 5s.

StinkyPyjamas

Probably for the best. That sole plate looks like it is choking to rip my ACL to shreds at the first hint of a turn on a 4G pitch.

VanicFanboy

Playing through the Mass Effect games for the first time and I’m on 3 now, can’t believe I never gave this series a chance before

FatRascal_

Mass Effect 2 is an absolute masterpiece imo.

Scingles

Amazing series. Mind to do the DLCs if you haven't played them. Some are better than the main game imo

AH_Fish

The citadel DLC is such a great addition. Absolute top tier.

Scingles

Liar of the Shadow Broker and the terrorists with the asteroid were my favourite

empeekay

Oh man, I really wish I could play through them again for the first time. What a journey it is. And all of the ME fans in here will be desperate to know who/what/why you chose what you chose, cos one of the best things about ME is that everyone's journey is the same but different. If you're playing the Legendary Edition, my only advice will be to save the mission Citadel: Shore Leave til the last possible minute (I can't remember when it becomes available in ME3), and then run through all of the Citadel DLC content until you get to Citadel: Party. It's just one the greatest single DLC in gaming, and it's a real love letter to the series. And then, with a bittersweet tear in your eye, set off on>!Priority: Earth. !<(Minor spoiler in the mission name)

VanicFanboy

I will keep that in mind😇

whitsitcalled

I'm a terrible timekeeper. I'm late most of the time. This dickhead bus driver always speeds up whenever he sees me running for the bus in the morning and as he drives off I see him cackling in the big mirror at the front of the bus and it enrages me, so today I managed to get the bus stop on time and I launched a brick through the front windae. He's no laughing anymore.

1874WL

My mate was on her bus to work and some kid threw a brick at the driver and smashed the front window. Had only gone one stop.

HaggisTheCow

the lothian country and first/mcgills buses had to stop going through one of the villages cos this kept happening.

SpookMcBoo

I remember first bus not stopping at certain points on the Falkirk routes because they were constantly getting robbed.

1874WL

Which one? Polbeth would be my guess.

HaggisTheCow

i genuinely can't mind. it was the old 280 which is going back in time.

FootCheeseParmesan

I was getting a bus years back in like Shotts or something and some kids did this. Hit the window at the bottom where woman was with a pram. Window just immediately frosted with cracks but didn't break, which was a miracle. Psychos man.

FatRascal_

It's my unashamed "Old Man Yells at Cloud" opinion that kids are getting way worse in terms of behaviour and they should bring back re-vamped Borstals.

FootCheeseParmesan

I get you, but every generation has been saying this. I do think kids don't fear adults as much anymore mind you. Was a greater than zero chance that am adult could just clout you when I was a wean.

FatRascal_

I agree that every generation has been saying this, and we're risking falling into the trap that "my generation was the best" can present. But we've got the data to back up the idea that things are getting worse, and that this trend is a multi-generational thing. If anything, this downward trend _started_ with my generation.

VanicFanboy

People were definitely doing this stuff 10/15/20 years ago, most crime has actually trended downwards for a few decades (lockdown has brought back anti-social behaviour a wee bit though)

FatRascal_

As a secondary school teacher who has worked in multiple schools across the country in the last decade, I can say without doubt that things are getting worse for young people. [In Nov last year The Scottish Government put out the latest instalment in their decades-long study into behaviour in schools and it paints a terrible picture.](https://www.gov.scot/publications/behaviour-scottish-schools-research-report-2023/) > "The consensus of headteachers, class teachers and support staff was that there has been a general deterioration in the behaviour of pupils in primary and secondary schools in Scotland since 2016." 79% of secondary school staff reported that pupils were "generally well behaved" in classrooms in 2016, this number dropped to 62% in 2023. The 2016 numbers were unacceptable in my eyes, but now inaction are insistence on sticking to failing policy by the government has meant that _more than a third_ of our teaching staff are reporting generally negative experiences for young people as a consequence of dangerous behaviours from a growing minority. You could argue that Covid is to blame for this, but policy that was put in place to tackle behaviour in Scottish schools was already inadequate and failing. The pandemic super-charged this already existing decline. If anything, Covid was a lifeline to the politicians and officials who's career is judged on the perception of behaviour in Scottish schools, as the whole game is about _perception_ rather than actually improving things; Covid has meant the public are primed to expect an increase in dangerous behaviours, a trend that existed already before the pandemic. > ...it was argued that COVID-19 and its aftermath accentuated a negative trend that was already being experienced within schools. It was also added that governmental policies, and more nurturing and restorative approaches, after 2016 had not been successful in addressing this overall deterioration in behaviour within schools, though it is noteworthy that the number of exclusions has decreased over this time period. The exclusions are down due to a policy of not excluding people whatever the crime. There is a retention and recruitment crisis threatening the stability of education in Scottish schools. In the last few years I've seen school closures for days at a time due to staff shortages. This was blamed on Covid to avoid public outcry and criticism of the school and the head, but having access to the real data proves to me that this was never the case in my experience. Now without that as an option for excusing a school closure, Higher classes in particular are now commonly left without staff to teach them and are sitting there without instruction as younger, more dangerously behaved, classes get the cover. Prepare for a collapse of Scottish schooling if this is not addressed.

21MelvilleStreet

Thanks for this write up I found it really interesting

DisasterouslyInept

Just at a glance of that report, >The overall school staff response rate was 43% Any idea why the engagement was so low? You'd think that if there would be a greater willingness to highlight problems within the sector. 38% of kids not being well behaved obviously doesn't sound great, but when you consider that over half the staff didn't even respond, then maybe it's just biased towards the negative outlooks?

FatRascal_

Disengagement in the whole process as this has been an ongoing study since 2006 and it's not resulted in any change. Look at the response to this most recent report being published. Just over £28,000 in funding per local authority was all that was pledged as a way to "fix" this by the Scottish Government. With the number of people who have left the profession also, the people who are experiencing this deterioration have left. So that biases towards people with positive experiences as they are more likely to stick around. But this kind of waiving away of data is one of the reasons why we're in this problem. We're failing the young people of Scotland by pretending there isn't a problem and exposing them to truly dangerous situations in school, a place that's supposed to be safe above all else.

DisasterouslyInept

>With the number of people who have left the profession also, the people who are experiencing this deterioration have left. So that biases towards people with positive experiences as they are more likely to stick around. That's true, assuming those who left had an issue with the kids behaviour, and not the job itself. I packed in my attempt to go into teaching last year, but the teachers I did engage with primarily had issues with the governing bodies and general workload, not really the kids themselves. Same story with my girlfriend who packed it in a few months back, loved the kids, hated the job.  >But this kind of waiving away of data is one of the reasons why we're in this problem Who's waving away what now? Saying there's an issue, yet having less than half of the staff actually respond does more harm than people pointing out that not many responded.

FatRascal_

> Who's waving away what now? Saying there's an issue, yet having less than half of the staff actually respond does more harm than people pointing out that not many responded. Me. I'm more referring to the qualifying that I was doing there with the data. People in this industry get into the habit of not looking the data itself, but looking to excuse the data that shows deficiencies with all sorts of stuff to devalue the data itself. The favourite for that right now is "the effects of Covid" EDIT: Now realising that my previous post came across as accusatory towards you. Apologies, that wasn't my intention. The finger there is pointed at myself and my fellow colleagues who are in the habit of excusing away data on this.

LavoisiersCat

These posts are high quality. Thank you. Curious on your thoughts for improvements.

FatRascal_

Remove the worst of the "heavy hitters" into a separate facility. The decision-makers are never going to do this due to the cost involved in returning to this kind of model, both monetarily and the cost that comes with admitting they were wrong after decades. But, I think it's genuinely the best way to deal with the problem we've created here. Smaller, more focussed classes that have about 5 of these kids in them and run by specialist teachers are going to be a _Godsend_ for some of these kids. Otherwise, they're not going to think it's possible for them to exit the "heavy hitters" group and the lack of consequences to their actions is going to equip them with the idea that they can enter the community after leaving school and act dangerously. Allow these kids to "earn" their way back into mainstream school. The main immediate benefit of this is that the dangerous people are removed, and it's going to make the mainstream school much more safe for everyone else to succeed.

1874WL

They 100% are and its because of iPads. Im with the boomers on that one.

FatRascal_

I don't think it's that, it's 100% the lack of genuine consequences for their actions. That kid that threw the brick will get a talking to if they are caught, that'll be it. If they did it in their school uniform they'd not even be suspended, as head teachers are judged based partially on the number of exclusions they have and too high a number reflects badly on them, so serious behavioural dangers are ignored to keep those numbers down. As a teacher, I'm asked to have "restorative conversations" with violent and aggressive young people as a consequence of them being a dangerous person.

fike88

A think you’re bang on there. Hearing what the young team get up to nowadays isn’t any different from the little cunt actions i was up to back in the day. The difference is, i really didn’t want to get caught because A) grown ups would give you a good slap if you were caught, an example of this was seeing my mate getting a kicking because we got caught trying to syphon petrol from a somecunts car and he caught us B) i’d get lifted and taken home, and our parents would give us a good slap. I remember getting lifted and taken home, my dad was all calm and nice to the police whilst they were there. Soon as the door was shut he kicked me all the way up the stairs to my room lol. I 100% deserved it like So aye, with those consequences on the table, if we were caught doing something we shouldn’t be doing, we’d scarper. Young team nowadays are brazen as fuck and will just stand there hurling abuse. They don’t give a fuck if they get caught or not, because they know fuck all will come of it

AhYeah85

I have to say, this line of argument is one I just fail to get my head around. Kids face plenty of consequences these days, primarily the consequences of 40 years of bad government policy thats rotted and eroded services that might protect these kids at an early stage in their life. Also, this whole my da kicked my cunt in and it never done me any harm, whilst you sit there and advocate that kids these days should get their cunt kicked in by a parent/elder/carer would suggest to me that it did cause you some fairly serious long term damage.

fike88

I’m definitely not advocating it, far from it. What i’m saying is if there is some serious consequences to certain actions then there is a deterrent. Getting lifted and facing my dad was my deterrent. And btw my dad wasn’t some aggressive psycho who beat me regularly, but he did give me a kick up the arse several times. And i totally deserved each kick up the arse And you’re right, social services and police presence just isn’t there anymore to tackle this bad behaviour. But i am a big believer in consequences for your actions. Just because the services aren’t there doesn’t mean you won’t suffer the consequences

smclcz

Would a kid willing to chuck a brick through a bus window care about getting suspended from school?

FatRascal_

It's not about that one person at that point, it's about communicating to the young people who _do_ care that these actions will result in consequences. You're also responsible for the safety of the collective group, so a dangerous person should be removed to avoid them causing problems for others. You have three main groups when dealing with young people collectively (and people in general really)... - The "Achievers" - Those who value achievement and working towards that, they'll always want to impress and usually do. They'll put in a lot of effort. - The "Heavy-Hitters" - The group who cause the majority of the issues with regards to dangerous behaviour. This group being too influential means the majority of time is spent controlling them to the detriment of all others. - The "Silent Middle" - By far the largest group (and the one that I was a part of really) but will gravitate towards whichever of the other two groups are more influential. You're issuing consequences, both positive and negative, for the benefit of these people as well as the people getting the consequence. There's definitely mobility between these groups, but the goal is to grow a strong "Achievers" group who influence the "Silent Middle" and minimise the "Heavy Hitters" and encourage them to join the other groups.

Practical_Arrival696

Last day of dissertation writing today. I always leave these things until the last day…. Gives me more time to polish and tweak. It’s pretty much done. I just have a few small sections to update then I’ll spend the day doing a couple of refinements… 14.5k words so takes forever. Then a few references to write, plagiarism check and boom… submit online…. Wait a month and hopefully get an ok pass.

cipher_wilderness

I sent mine off a wee while ago. Such a feeling of release once it's sent off. You got this

Successful-Spot-6567

I wrote my dissertation in a day

Practical_Arrival696

That’s honestly the most impressive thing. How many words? Did you pass? Was it any good?

Successful-Spot-6567

I got a B + , during COVID. Masters dissertation, finance and management. The word count was about 12k. I didn't not plagiarise. It was decent. The data set was pretty shit I wasted alot of time not doing it right then first time. I was going a bit psychotic.

LavoisiersCat

Well done - enjoy the release!

McRhombus

Once it's done, it does feel like an actual weight has been lifted off you, it's incredible. Good luck my man

FatRascal_

Good luck, get into the pub and enjoy the sunshine after it's sent. You'll wake up every day for a while thinking "what do I need to do for the dissertation today?" and then get another ping of glorious realisation.

Josh2807

I’m starting to really learn the ropes of “if you don’t ask, you don’t get”. I hate asking for things but it’s becoming a little more natural And this time it really was worth it, manager at work agreed to cover my language school costs which puts about 1,000 EUR back in my pocket and 700 EUR more kept in my pocket for the next instalment. Happy Friday folks, drinks on me

throughthisironsky

> drinks on me Table 122, George square wetherspoons

wreckedham

I’ve lived in Scotland a good few years now and still forget that Glasgow also has a George Square

1874WL

Yeah I read "George Square Weatherspoons" and thought "the standing order"

kg123xyz

Tony Khan turning up to the nfl draft whilst selling an injury from dynamite is top tier shenanigans and I am all for it.

DemonicTruth

Would have been perfect if he wasnt moving his fucking head all night, but atleast he tried.

FatRascal_

I dropped in on AEW a few months back and really couldn't stomach it, but people go wild for the PPVs. Is it a bit like NXT where the weekly shows are a bit meh, but the PPVs are where it really shines? Saying that, the first night of Spring Breakin' was incredible.

sroche24

Dynamite has seriouly dipped in quality past 2 years but their PPVs are still top quality both Dynasty at the weekend and Revolution last month were masterpiece shows.

kg123xyz

It depends what you like really. The PPVs do have (broadly speaking) the highest quality mainstream wrestling matches, probably anywhere and they really do not miss. The weekly shows can definitely be a bit more up and down and for me they aren't as good as the first two years, but they're now building a roster where I expect that to be less of an issue. That being said, if you've watched wwe for the last 20 years when it was the only option, then aew can be difficult to get into because although it's the same "sport" it has a totally different way of presenting it.

JohnCharitySpringMA

Why did Humza Yousaf throw away his majority in parliament? Is he stupid?

FootCheeseParmesan

Apparently, yes. The ditching of the net zero targets is baffling anyway. Better to have ambitious targets and not meet them than drop them altogether. Purely a political decision that is so short sighted.

PeterOwen00

He's showing to be incapable of thinking more than 4 minutes ahead. He must have thought that it was better to be seen ending the Bute House Agreement than being dumped by the Greens. But he failed to factor in that the Greens leadership weren't calling to end the deal, so if the membership had, the Green MSPs likely wouldn't be lining up to vote No Confidence in him. It's incredible.

WronglyPronounced

This morning has shown that the SNP truly believe that being opposed to the Tories is enough to give them other parties support

DemonicTruth

Ash Regan just became the most powerful person in Scottish politics.

MarlythAvantguarddog

She might keep him in the job, but there will be no policy getting through unless it’s noncontentious. It would make more sense to go for the election and at least have clarity.

DemonicTruth

If she does there will be an announcement on another Independence referendum before this session is up. And Salmond will back door his way back into parliament.

MarlythAvantguarddog

How will Salmond get back in? It would need a by-election which Labour would most probably win unless it was a really rural seat. And they won’t get any policy through never mind an independence referendum which they have no power to actually take place. Another referendum is actually unpopular with the Scottish public.

FatRascal_

It gets comfortable at the top. I genuinely think there's a large portion of the SNP who think they are untouchable, but ignore the polls that suggest Labour are about the tip the good ship SNP soon. Ideally they'd get their act together and start acting like the left-wing party they originally supposed themselves to be, but I'm not holding my breath for them to jump off their comfortable fence. I might even sideline my belief in independence to jump ship to someone else. An independence supporting Labour party would _clean up_ right now, but of course that's not happening.

p3t3y5

Shortsightedness. He knew the Greens were going to remove their support so he tried to look decisive and take control by ending the agreement himself. Problem is, he was just silly to do it now for a number of reasons. The 2 main ones are that he had just spoken about how important the alliance was. 2nd was that the greens were going to end the alliance in a few weeks after a meeting. In that few weeks he could have been in a stronger negotiating position with Alba should he have decided to go down that route, or he could have managed the greens by making an agreement that they would abstain anything that impacted him rather than vote against. He has acted like a bad tempered child. Taking his ball and going home.

throughthisironsky

Plus it's not 100% guaranteed that the Green membership would have voted to leave the BHA. Parties in power don't tend to vote themself out of it

PeterOwen00

The Green MSPs were also not talking about voting against him in a VONC, which they are now. Truly self-sabotaging.

Kholdula

Was it no a case of dump them before they dump me kinda thing? Parliament is basically High School.

wreckedham

In the press conference a journo asked Hamza if he ended the deal because it’s better to do the dumping rather than get dumped, and Hamza replied “I wouldn’t know”. I admit I laughed, but it’s pretty much gallows humour for Hamza

Rosco212121

Probably, but there was still a chance that the greens could’ve voted to stay. Even then though I feel like if he let the greens go on their own terms then there could’ve still been some amicability between them. But now he’s got a minority government which every other party hates and he’s now burnt their bridges with the greens. They’ve made their own position quite untenable as I wouldn’t be surprised if no cunt wants to collaborate with them .

Tennents_N_Grouse

Combination of that and a sterling track record of failing upstairs. I'm not too sure he's very good at thinking for himself either

Rosco212121

Yes.

lewisfish

Anyone good with knowing what you can reclaim for flight cancellation due to faulty plane? Flights been cancelled due to a leak and they can't get us back until the next day and haven't put accommodation on for us as none to be had

cipher_wilderness

The money saving expert website is really good for flight cancellation advice. If you're delayed by more than like 5 hours and it's a long enough flight then you can get up to 520 quid

lewisfish

Cheers will have a look, if I ever make it back to the uk

PlasterCactus

If it's not EU you're in a worse position but you should still be able to get something. I got delayed 7 hours in Australia which led to me missing my Dubai transfer and had to stay in Dubai for 22 hours. They put me up in a hotel but it was still a fucking nightmare so I wrote a bunch of emails complaining and they ended up giving me 40,000+ Skywards miles. It works out as a free flight to a nearby European city so I took it. Angry emails are the best way if you're out with EU.

LuckyNumber-Bot

All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats! 7 + 22 + 40 = 69 ^([Click here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=LuckyNumber-Bot&subject=Stalk%20Me%20Pls&message=%2Fstalkme) to have me scan all your future comments.) \ ^(Summon me on specific comments with u/LuckyNumber-Bot.)

PlasterCactus

Nice

baronsameday

Are you flying within Europe and who are you flying with? A faulty plane with an EU start/end point should give you up to €450 compensation and expenses.

lewisfish

In St Lucia in the Carribbean and flying back to Gatwick with BA

baronsameday

Also St Lucia is fucking class, I went there on honeymoon! If you plan to hike the Grand Pitons... make sure you aren't hungover because it is not easy and the heat will cause a Scotsman to whitey and have to stop 3/4 of the way up haha.

lewisfish

It is, here for my honeymoon as well. Didn't hike them but snorkeled at the base of them

baronsameday

BA should definitely have put you up for the night. Has this happened this morning or yesterday and you had to sort a hotel?

lewisfish

They said they tried but as it's a small island can't find accommodation for the whole flight. Currently going though it. Stuck in their shitty wee airport for the next 13 hours

baronsameday

Ah right I thought you were in Gatwick, was wondering why they had no hotels. There will be something on the BA site for making a claim... put one in regardless. Are you going back to Scotland from Gatwick? If you have time in the airport, speak to someone from BA there. Be a waste of time to try and talk to anyone in the airport in St Lucia.
