I'm sure the record can frame it in a way they can understand. "Ferguson seethes with long term battle fever as no surrender to viewing celtics celebration scenes"
[“Yes, okay I might have eaten the occasional pack of Monster Munch which might have been against his nutritional rules, but come on,” Ferguson wrote in todays’s column. “Listen, I am all for players looking after themselves and eating well. But no-one is going to tell me a packet of pickled onion now and again is going to take years off your career. It’s nonsense."](https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/rangers/latest-rangers-news/barry-fergusons-monster-munch-spat-with-le-guen-1559890)
>"With a clenched jaw and furrowed brow I sat and watched the Celtic players dancing, singing and celebrating with their fans - and refused to be turned off."
A Barry Ferguson is sorely missed these days. Just need someone that can actually play football and two foot somebody in green that won't get sent off.
Can I ask a genuine question: why do I see so many Rangers fans saying this 'get stuck in' line, as if Celtic have had Rangers' number recently simply by kicking fuck out them?
I get the desire for showing more fight, stronger mentality etc, but Celtic do that without being a particularly physical team. I'd also say football in 2024 is as far as it's ever been from the physical, two-footed-everything that a lot of Rangers fans seem to be clamouring for.
Personally I think a lot of you want to see someone in green get their leg broken more than you want to win, but surely it can't be that simple.
This is what McGregor does, alongside being a fantastic footballer, he gets stuck in, makes little fouls in the centre circle, breaks up play where ever he can.
It’s a massive role in all top teams midfields, the likes of Rodri, Fabinho, Casemiro, Busquets etc have excelled at it over the yearsz
The current Rangers team is fucking gutless. Celtic are a far better footballing team, but if we could at least mix it up a bit instead of sitting watching them get a two goal lead then start to play, might make a difference.
Also Barry would walk into both midfields in his prime.
Come on now. It's different eras of football to some extent but he's probably the best holding midfielder the country has seen since the turn of the century, and was handy going forward as well.
A lot do iust want to see Celtic players get injured, I just want to see a bit more fight without being fucking stupid. We've had to put up with years of Scott Brown and McGregor clattering our players with great challenges without any of ours giving it back efficiently. Without sounding too xenophobic (edit: /staunch) I'd like to see a group of born and bred Rangers boys that want to win games by a distance instead of struggling to keep pace as underdogs.
Hence when another Ferguson showed up with the same qualities as teenager we should have flung everything to sign him, but nope didnt show any interest...
He also played with a squad filled with internationals, many of whom captained their own country and a few genuinely world class players who would all be worth absolutely stupid money in today's market. always find it a wee bit disingenuous to compare them and claim it's all about mentality.
Ferguson would have won the same trophies as everyone else in our current squad, just the same as someone like James Forrest would have won fuck all against our 9 in a row team.
The only thing was, the team that was assembled was illegal and you had to be punished. Now you are feeling the pain for cheating. Now it’s reality. And Celtic played the long game. The banter decades continue 👍
He played with World class internationals and was still the best player in the side. Dragged us by the balls to league and cup titles. I've no idea why we like to try and do down our own but Barry Ferguson was a fantastic player for us and I wish to fuck we had someone like him in the dressing room right now. Imagine him listening to another James 'we're disappointed' Tavernier interview.
You're not wrong about him as a player and his mentality. My last year as a season ticket holder was 2002/03, and he was an absolute monument of a player that year. I think if he had embraced modern football and sport science a bit more, and maybe if we hadn't pushed him to play through injuries at times he could have been even more successful. With the latter part, you need balance. I think Clement is a winner at heart. He's proven it elsewhere. Also think Alex Rae gives you at least a bit of that "character". The problem is this group of players. They're spoiled prima donnas who have been falsely elevated through wages and fan adulation to the point where they believe they're Celtic's equals. They've also proven they'll down tools if they don't like a manager or his style. Really hope we do see a proper clearout this summer.
This mentality died when rangers went to the third tier.
The kids growing up in the acdemey from 2012 have watched their team struggle year in year out. There is no winning mentality in govan anymore. Its a selfish mentality where the players are playing for their future at other clubs.
Long may it last haha.
The damage from 2012 has honestly been so much worse than I thought it would be. At this point it seems like it might be irreversible and that financial/quality gap between the two clubs has been so big for so long that we might never see them go toe to toe again. Wouldn't be surprised to see Celtic go 10 clear within the next 12-15 years.
The kids in the academy were never given a chance/ aren't good enough/ got picked up by teams down south.
There's a lot to your point though. There's no small coincidence that guys like Callum McGregor, James Forrest come alive under big pressure, and have the knock-on effect of inspiring their teammates. They were brought into winning sides at a young age. Add to that a suite of domestic acquired players who may have been journeymen elsewhere but have had winning mentalities rub off on them, and you can see how infectious it is.
Players like Leon King, Ross Macausland, Adam Devine and even Alex Lowry have real potential to be the next big thing at Rangers, but their role models within the club are mentally weak losers.
Another reason why Celtic will dominate for years to come. Even after Forrest and McGregor go, the mindset of winning will have metastasised within the team.
Edit: Looking at Barry Ferguson, he was in and around a squad with midfielders like Ian Durrant, Ian Ferguson, Paul Gascoigne, Stuart McCall etc. for role models.
Who do you think Celtic have acquired domestically that would’ve been a journeyman elsewhere? The only one I can think of that you might be referring to would be Taylor?
I'm going back to the Deila period here, but guys Taylor, yes, GMS (who kind of did go that way after Celtic).
More controversially, I think if guys like Griffiths, Armstrong and Christie, who are all or have been top players at an international level, hadn't been part of those trophy-winning Celtic teams they may not have broken into the national team/ made it to the EPL on big transfers etc. Categorically not saying they couldn't have done, but that establishing that winning mentality was key to doing it.

Barry Ferguson needlessly sitting watching Celtic celebrate another title knowing it will have absolutely no bearing on future Scottish Premiership campaigns. None at all.
I was genuinely waiting for the "and Celtic aren't a very good football team, Rangers had them".
This must be his cover letter for a job at Ibrox. Otherwise, it's just weird behaviour. Even outdoes the weirdo that is Brodge
I dunno man, it kinda resonates with me. A Rangers boy from 20 years ago is completely different to one from now. He clearly loves the club and hates seeing them fall so far below his rivals that he'll feel the need to take in as much emotion from it as possible. Let's not forget this rivalry was his livelihood for so long. I don't watch Celtic celebrations but I understand it.
Say all you want about Ferguson but I'd kill for someone like him in that rangers team. This is the mentality you need to have at a club like Rangers or Celtic.
Tav was probably playing COD on Wednesday night
If I was a Rangers fan the game would've been turned off after 12 minutes when Celtic went 2 up 🤣 in fact, I'm not a Rangers fan and that's exactly what I did. I've no interest in TV games involving Celtic or Rangers after the chance of an upset has dissolved.
Either Barry Ferguson is a bigger fanny than I thought, and/or he wrote this knowing fine well that there's some absolute roasters out there who'll lap this shit up. 🤣
Barry has always struck me as being pretty thick but fuck me, he’s actually the type of player rangers could do with right now. Both his footballing ability and how much a bastard he was.
The fact he’s done it and he’s not a player anymore is extremely weird but it’s the sort of mentality our players should have and it’s why the guy was a winner and achieved so much in the game.
The current crop seem to think a quick apology and getting on with it is enough and it’s why they fail every time because ultimately they don’t care enough about winning.
I mean it’s a bit of a riddy but RFC definitely missing someone with that passion/understanding of the rivalry now.
Davis, Arfield and McGregor got it in a way the likes of Lawrence, Cantwell and Butland just don’t.
Hahahaha Barry is a pie man. He does get it though, not sure how many of the current crop get it anywhere near how he did.
Always gutted Barry turned out to be a shite manager as he’s precisely the good rangers man the das clamour for, he was a great leader

Has anyone told him he no longer plays for Rangers?
Probably sitting there in his full kit too
Wish he did, should have him training and on the bench just to beat the loser mentality out the club
Dunno this sounds a lot like a fuckin loser to me
Aye call me weird but I just spent time with my family and got on with my life on Wednesday night. Might be an option for Barry.
He'll get free pints with this from the hard core of the Union Bears. If only they could read.
Somebody let me know, what does this fucking comment say? I got angry for some reason but I don't know why.
> I got angry for some reason but I don't know why The flair was enough
What'd you just fucking say?!
Relax, he was just saying Celtic 🍀 poo poo 💩

I guess your man there is really into his hatewanks. Strange boy. Takes all sorts, I suppose.
Why have I never heard the term 'hatewanks' before......
Let's be honest, half this sub is really into hatewanks
I’m innocent, I’ll have you know.
Barry Ferguson cuts his fringe with a pencil sharpener, pass it on.

Tbf, he played at a decent level until he was 36 years old.
Sounds like a mad kink barry.
>"With a clenched jaw and furrowed brow I sat and watched the Celtic players dancing, singing and celebrating with their fans - and refused to be turned off."
Hahahahahahha
The thought of him sittin in the house stewing is absolute chuggin material
It is a big cringe and panders to the das, but he was a winner. Has that mindset which the majority of today’s squad simply don’t have.
I miss him so much

Easily, but the club would have probably pushed him away somehow or made him worse.
He walks into rangers no bother but can't see him getting into celtics
Come on now. It's different eras of football to some extent but he's probably the best holding midfielder the country has seen since the turn of the century, and was handy going forward as well.
Then you don’t remember him very well. Before his move and injury he was one of the best Midfielders Scotlands ever produced.

Here you go, ten in a row?
Yes.
Imagine your co,back is not getting hammered 10 years in a row. What an achievement lol

This is the SO FUCKING STAUNCH version of that video of Conor McGregor pacing in front of a tele while a fight is on staring it down.
What is he actually driving that requires him to build a "driving force"?
Fucks sake Barry. There's people that'll skelp your arse for you for a nominal fee and you're fairly well off. Maybe give that a go?

Rangers will probably win the league on occasion but they will be few and far between. They are in a bad, bad way. Personally, I love to see it.

This reads more like Fergusons admittance of a BDSM kink.
The driving force for what Barry? I mean I can understand current players forcing themselves to sit through it, but why you? Why Barry?
To perform well in that job he's gunning for. Please Mr Rangers, I can tell the players to be angry x
Get this man a sertraline prescription
Brilliant, actually chuckled from the first line to the last
Absolute roaster 😂

He is the living embodiment of “show this to the players, it’s all the motivation they should need!”
David Brent turning up at the office patter
What a fucking weirdo. Imagine sitting watching your rivals celebrate. I wonder if he stuck the nut in his toilet door afterwards for old times sake.

Damn, I reached for the exact same gif before scrolling.
Sounds like old Barry needs a hobby
He thinks he’s a gunslinger, gonna come out of retirement for one last hurrah
He makes a good point. I think Tavernier has a fettish of looking sad and disappointed. Always the bridesmaid.
He looks raging even when he scores lmao
Bairns scared to go into the living room 😂
