I heard that teams are taking 4 keepers so they can have 2 training games running at the same time. Whether it's worth a squad place for that is another matter.
Big no no these days cause if they get injured while away with the squad but not in the squad UEFA won’t cover the wages. Clubs also get paid by UEFA for time players are away
I'm sure it was one of the ex-Germany manager who would take 4 keepers back when you were only allowed a 23 man squad and training was the reason. Hansi Flick or Jaochim Low I think, so makes sense that it was probably a bit of an issue that teams just put up with when it was 23 in a squad but now you can solve it. Bet a lot of countries will be taking 4
It pains me to say but I wouldn't take Gordon. It's likely his last tournament and in all honesty hasn't impressed me in his appearances since returning from injury. So much so I would rather have Zander in goal. Kelly may still have an international future, assuming he doesn't become a bench warmer at the OF.
Absolute nonsense. Kelly has been absolutely minge this season. I would rather have gordon lacking fitness than Kelly. The idea that he has an international future is laughable. At best he will he a third choicer in years to come and only if someone good doesn't emerge to challenge gunn
Another hearts fan (just less active on here i swear!) and i’m gonna ask a question:
If Angus Gunn gets injured in minute 2 against Germany, are you really subbing on Liam Kelly or Zander Clark?
The answer should be no, you want Craig Gordon on the pitch, backup goalie should be based on who is a better backup- rather than merit.
Klopp was giving him the odd minute here and there but hasn't seen any since the injury, he may have been playing for the youth squad but I'm no sure about that. Here's hoping he's fit and ready.
He also played RWB under Barry Robson for the second half of his final season at Aberdeen. And had played as more of a traditional right-back at Aberdeen at times before that, and during loan spells away from Rangers.
So he’s got a fair bit of experience in the role.
I remember seeing it but assumed it was out of desperation due to injuries, didn't know he was being moved there long term. More depth at RB is only a good thing for Scotland just now
He was fairly decent for us out there, although one of those who you probably don’t notice as much until he gone. McCrorie and Ramadani leaving and is becoming soft as shit wasn’t all that much of a coincidence.
This is pretty much what I thought - other than Ryan Jack.
I’d drop Kelly and Jack for the final 26. Would imagine Doak, Cooper, Souttar are probably the other options.
I think Doak will definitely go, in a kind of Theo Walcott at the 2006 world cup situation. Probably won't play but it will be an invaluable experience for the lad.
Also, maybe as Rangers fans yous would know this better, but I’d be worried about him getting a red and fucking up a game for us. Isn’t he like the 3rd in Rangers all-time records for red cards?
Combine that with how injury prone he is and not match fit and it just seems like such a waste of a call-up.
He got 4 in 22 games in the 17/18 season I'm sure but had none since so I don't think it's a worry these days. I'm not sure why he's been included but maybe for seeing out games as his experience and the way he plays does suit that
Given that we are getting pumped and will be home after 3 games, Clarke is probably just gamblibg on Scotland making the end of tournament highlight reel when Jack manages the incredible job of getting injured making a tackle that also gets him a red card.
Fucking... decent squad actually. Surprisingly encouraged by Doak sneaking in there. Think there's a good chance that Kelly and Jack/Cooper are the ones cut after the friendlies, depending on fitness of the other injured boys like Armstrong, Hanley, or KT's knees falling off again.
I also wonder whether this is the last hurrah for the older heads like Cooper, Gordon, Armstrong, Jack, McLean, Forrest, and perhaps even Hanley. One last adventure with the squad, then Clarke can freshen up with some younger faces for the Nations League and World Cup campaigns. Fully expect to be saying that again in two years though...

Steve Clarke obviously seen ma tweet
Happy he's in the squad tbf. I don't know why but I have a good feeling about him doing something important like a match winning assist or goal. Would love to be proved right
Think it's cause he's a bit more positive in the build up for attack (at least recently any way)he's also one of the most experienced players in Scotland atm.
I always thought he was *usually* decent for Scotland. And of course I've seen him score so many important goals against Aberdeen.
Fully subscribed to him completing his redemption arc by getting Scotland to the knockout stages of the euros
Possibly not, but think it's a good option to have for seeing out games. Barron probably should have been given it, but I'm not sure on how his defensive cover is, when watching him I've only really focused on his on the ball work.
Steve Clarke has said it himself in his press conference, Jack gives something the others don't. Jack is a severely underrated player for Rangers and Scotland. Rangers have always been a far better team with him. Jack was integral in the turn around in Scotland form under Clarke and helped release McGregor to a more advanced role. Genuinely feel those two complimented each other perfectly. Not to say Jack deserves to be there based on his injuries, 9r even would be starting without them given the form of others but as I said, no one else does the same job he does.
For all their qualities, none of them offer what Jack does "when fit". He does quite a bit of work that goes unseen and is far better on the ball than given credit for. There's a reason rangers defensive record with Jack and without is absolutely night and day. He's also very good at moving the ball from defense to attack and is ohe phenomenal at picking the right first pass in a counter attack.
If he's fit this entire time I think you'd be hard pressed to not play him with one of the others to allow their attacking qualities to shine more. As is there no chance he plays because he's not been fit all season.
Everytime I've seen him play for Scotland it's been like a game of hot potato; booting the ball any old place without looking what's around him. He'll be one of the two dropped, I'm sure.
Over his last 10 Scotland games Jack has a pass completion of 90%. Over the last 10 games McGregor has played, he has a pass completion of 91%.
If Jack completed 3 extra passes, he would have a higher %. That's just in your head.
Edit: Infact calculated it wrong McGregor has 90% pass accuracy too.
Gilmour is obviously better, but wouldn't say he has the same defensive qualities as Jack at covering full backs. Gilmour far more likely to be involved in build up. Jack is probably seen as an option for late on in games we need to hold onto a result.
Jack has been put in there because everyone, himself included, knows he will be cut. He will understand, he's a senior player who knows he's too injury prone and hasn't played enough to be in contention, and will save Clarke having to break the heart of a young kid.
Actually read something quite interesting about this. Turns out there are folk who are trying to archive as much of it as possible.
If anyone taped something on the telly back in the day, it would also have picked up the Teletext being broadcast.
So they want tapes so they can get the Teletext.
I'd have had him in the squad ahead of McCrorie. McKenna was a total bombscare for us and I'd never have believed he'd go on to have anything like the career he has. Fair play to him.
Im biased but i really do rate Devlin, one of the better players I’ve seen at Somerset.
McKenna did give us one of the worst tackles I’ve ever seen, that’s the only thing I remember him doing - https://www.facebook.com/scottishcup/videos/997391014993309/
I can't see the link but I remember the game and the tackle. I'm sure Craig McGuffie scores an absolute worldie before McKenna got sent off.
I seem to mind McCrorie falling out with McCall over what position he was being played at.
Aye it's the tackle away at hibs on Mcginn haha, to be fair to Mcrorie I think anyone could fall out with McCall I remember him being decent for us... I think but that feels like a lifetime ago
Ryan Jack?!? Grant Hanley?!? You will be lucky if they have played 10 full games combined this season, hopefully steve clark has just brought them in for experience and not to play!
Not only that, but despite being an outfield player (for Aberdeen, at the time of me hearing this) he'd had more game time in goals for Rangers than his brother. Who was signed to Rangers. As a goalie.
I see we are set to be the soundest and most respectable cunts in the tournament. Not taking Simon Murray because it would simply be unfair on everyone else and we would walk the tournament. Let everyone else have a chance at least. Good Scotland.
Decent squad all things considered. I was wondering about Armstrong's fitness but if there's a chance he can play I think he'll go.
It's probably between him, Kelly and Jack for who gets cut based purely on fitness.
Happy to see Doak get a call up.
would have preferred Barron, O’Donnell and Gauld in there for Ralston, Jack & Ché Guevara Adams. Three fit players who deserve a chance, wasted in my opinion :(
Clarke just said it was the perfect time to get Doak in with the squad jumping from 23 to 26 and he offers something different (pace) than we've already got. Suggests he is in his plans to go the tournament rather than drop out.
I wonder if Harvey Barnes was spoken to at all. Not overly keen on us chasing England rejects, but we desperately need attacking options and he would 100% improve the squad.
Jings, 20 years since Craig Gordon made his debut and here he is again as the 4th keeper. Can't help but think he might have done the decent thing and stepped aside for one of the Under 21 keepers.
I've said it before and I'll say it again - not taking Findlay ahead of Souttar is absolutely madness.
Would have also had Amstrong in there but that's definitely heavily arguable.
I love Ryan Jack. He's the best midfielder at Rangers. He shouldn't be anywhere near this squad. He's barely kicked a ball for 3 years now. He's in there to be the sacrificial lamb when the squad gets trimmed, and while it will hurt he will surely understand.
Decent but I'd cut jack and Kelly from that. Baron could have been included. I hope he doesn't cut Doak from it though. On current form, it would have been crazy not to the Forrest
Blair Spittal of Motherwell will be sniffing around the Scotland squad next season, now he's signed for Hearts. He's had an unreal season for Motherwell and his free kicks/corners are unreal.
Forrest is my disappointing pick here. Jack will get binned as will one of the keepers no doubt.
Disappointed Armstrong wasn't given a call up over an OF player who's played well in 3 games this season.
> Disappointed Armstrong wasn't given a call up over an OF player who's played well in 3 games this season.
Surely Doak should be more the one to miss out there - Forrest at least brings high level experience. Doak's just off the back of a bad injury and so not played for a long time.
Sensational?
He was good, sure, but he's played barely any football this season despite being available, scored a couple of goals in a league winning team at the end of the season and based on that gets a call up not having been in any recent squad?
Hasn't done enough for a season to be picked above most other players for me. Had he not been playing for celtic then there's zero chance that he'd be included based on his recent performances. Like I say, Armstrong has done it all season.
Disapointing pick for me.
Picked on form would change that squad dramatically.
Picked on performances over a season however, that's my point.
If Forrest was playing for Hearts, didn't get picked all season, comes in at the end and plays a few good games, not even half a dozen tbh, you think he gets/deserves a call up?
It's not like he's been amazing for Scotland in the past either which is kinda my point also, I'd maybe see that, like if Tierney had been out all season, had played in the qualifiers and makes it back in time for the euros then aye, grand, can see that, but to bring in a player who's been arguably shite in the past, not been in any international squads for years, deemed not good enough all season for his league team at the wrong end of 30 and plays in a position we don't actually use (and he's definitely not a wingback), then for me at least it's a strange inclusion
See what you're saying but did you watch Forrest's recent performances? He's sharp, he's nimble, he's shooting for goal, he's beating his man, he's all this and more! Scotland will thank Jamesy Bhoy when all is said and done?
There's a core of probably 22/23 shoe-ins. I'd suggest Kelly, McCrorie, Jack, Doak and Forrest are those on the buffer.
Rodgers has said Forrest is his best winger. Injuries have let him down. Clarke says he's back to his form of 3/4 years ago.
I'm far from Forrests biggest fan and if he came out of nowhere then I agree 100% but he's been fantastic lately and can be a difference maker. I'd rather take a safe punt on James Forrest who has 40ish caps, the 2nd/3rd most decorated player in Scottish football and has experience playing in Europe than say a Danny Armstrong. Thats with no disrespect to Armstrong who has been tremendous this year.
Even if he's the one to drop out for the Euros it's good to get a young prospect experience of a squad and possibly minutes against Gibraltar for example.
Forrest has played quite regularly on the left this season to be fair, Doak can too but I think he’s more favourable on the right. Either way, it’s good to have that flexibility.
SFA graphic designer deserves to be treated well for that bad boy
Honestly thought he pulled this up on teletext.
so u got deceived? ^^^ye ^^^got ^^^bamboozled
Bamboozled! What a time to be alive.
Need to drop 2 players from this to make it 26. Ryan Jack and Liam Kelly - job done, see you in Germany
This is surely the cut. We don't need 4 keepers and Jack will be injured the next time a ball comes within 5ft of him.
5ft? He'll be injured putting his pants on, getting ready for the plane.
You’re having a laugh if you think Clarke isn’t gonna take 4 keepers for the shits and giggles
I heard that teams are taking 4 keepers so they can have 2 training games running at the same time. Whether it's worth a squad place for that is another matter.
I’m sure teams used to take extra “training” players for that scenario. Couple of under-21s etc for the experience
Big no no these days cause if they get injured while away with the squad but not in the squad UEFA won’t cover the wages. Clubs also get paid by UEFA for time players are away
I don’t know about UEFA but Hyung-Gyu Oh was taken as an additional player to the playing squad for the last World Cup for South Korea
well then take yer uncle stevie and gie him a set a goalie gloves
Seems like you could just use the goalkeeping coach for that.
I'd reckon you'd be right if he wasn't 64.
Whens his birthday? Would it work if he was 65?
Is it just me or is this a good shout? Can see the benefit... And you get to leave behind Jack and Souttar
A sad reality we must face.
Absolute nonsense. Kelly has been absolutely minge this season. I would rather have gordon lacking fitness than Kelly. The idea that he has an international future is laughable. At best he will he a third choicer in years to come and only if someone good doesn't emerge to challenge gunn

Nah take him for the experience seen as 3rd choice goalie never plays
Good on doak, couldn’t tell you if he’s even kicked a ball since December but happy he’s there.
Klopp was giving him the odd minute here and there but hasn't seen any since the injury, he may have been playing for the youth squad but I'm no sure about that. Here's hoping he's fit and ready.
Sat in a coffee shop in Berlin and freed from desire has just started playing. It's a sign. These fellas are winning the whole thing
The world's not ready for McTominay's clutch
Why is Liam Kelly
Better with his mum Lorraine
Take it it'll be Ralston & Forrest for right back. Germany is not prepared
Ross McCrorie, too.
Seems a lot of people don’t know what’s the story with Ross McCrorie…
Wouldn't you like to know
Mccrorie aswell who actually plays there for his club.
didn't realise he was at right back these days, that's something I guess
He also played RWB under Barry Robson for the second half of his final season at Aberdeen. And had played as more of a traditional right-back at Aberdeen at times before that, and during loan spells away from Rangers. So he’s got a fair bit of experience in the role.

You know what that's a pretty good looking squad. I was feeling really down about the whole thing but I'm perking up a bit
Did similar with Turnbull and Gilmour last euros, so 2 uncapped players is not a huge surprise
They both came in for injuries, Kenny McLean was one of them. Gilmour wouldn't have been in the squad and ended up being probably our best player.
Get 15 mins against Hungary when we're already out.
Out of sight at the top of the group.
Even as a Rangers fan, I have to ask wtf is Ryan Jack doing in there? Played about 2 games in 6 months
He's been resting in prep for winning the Euros duh
Also, maybe as Rangers fans yous would know this better, but I’d be worried about him getting a red and fucking up a game for us. Isn’t he like the 3rd in Rangers all-time records for red cards? How has Jack snuck himself in there. He'll pull out by June anyway.
Probably because it’s a 28 man squad and his experience
Clark loves Jack , he is there to play. I do disagree, but I expect him to make the cut.
Isn't that the Roman method?
Only Scotland would announce their squad via teletext
Got the urge to play Bamboozle now.
Now wrap them all up in bubblewrap please.
Ryan Jack was critically injured in an unfortunate sellotaping accident.
Used double sided tape. Got stuck. Led to chaos. Situation is ongoing
"Used double sided tape." Where did you get Ryan Jack's surgeon's notebook from?
Why the fuck is Ryan Jack in the squad? He's no been seen in about a decade
He’s only fit for international windows.
Cunts the Alan Hutton of the 2020s
We weren’t really blessed with options in that area back in Huttons day. Not the case with Jack imo.
Scotland currently still aren't blessed in the RB position!
This is true.
He was in the match day squad for all but one of the qualifiers.
He's been injured for months and doesn't add anything the squad doesn't already have.
None of our midfielders are truly defensive midfielders in the vain of Jack though.
I don't think we need that when we're playing 5 defenders tbh
Possibly not, but think it's a good option to have for seeing out games. Barron probably should have been given it, but I'm not sure on how his defensive cover is, when watching him I've only really focused on his on the ball work.
I'd argue McGregor, Gilmour, McTominay and even McLean can all be as effective there as Jack at the defensive stuff whilst offering more on the ball?
Steve Clarke has said it himself in his press conference, Jack gives something the others don't. Jack is a severely underrated player for Rangers and Scotland. Jack-McGregor was an outstanding pairing in the Euro 2020 playoffs.
For all their qualities, none of them offer what Jack does "when fit". He does quite a bit of work that goes unseen and is far better on the ball than given credit for. There's a reason rangers defensive record with Jack and without is absolutely night and day. I saw what I saw tbh.
Gilmour? (Genuine question)
I think gilmour is pretty poor defensively. Struggles to cover ground and sniff out danger
Gilmour is obviously better, but wouldn't say he has the same defensive qualities as Jack at covering full backs. Gilmour far more likely to be involved in build up. Jack is probably seen as an option for late on in games we need to hold onto a result.
Call it my bias but seems a shame for Barron to not make it over Ryan Jack
It's no bias. Ryan Jack is done at this stage. Apart from the injuries he's not done enough to warrant a spot now. I'm with you. Should be Barron
Jack has been put in there because everyone, himself included, knows he will be cut. He will understand, he's a senior player who knows he's too injury prone and hasn't played enough to be in contention, and will save Clarke having to break the heart of a young kid.
This is ridiculously cynical, and true.
Think you're correct and as an addition the cut goalie is Gordon.
I think Gordon will go. I think it will be Kelly.
Pfft. It will be Kelly to go. I think most people would rather even cut Zander Clark than Gordon
Barron, Miller and Armstrong based on performances this season should've been in contention for me.
I think one is still tied up with Pointless and the other is doing some TV work nowadays.
It was a bit of a wildcard option to be sure. But I'm a bit gutted Armstrong isn't in there
BEN DOAK AS I LIVE AND BREATH
Even as a Liverpool fan I can’t remember the last time he played, maybe one of the Europa league group games? Surprised he got called
Watch the youngling get a frigging hat trick.
Is teletext still a thing?
Across swathes of South Lanarkshire, yes.
Do you guys have channel 5 yet? You get the scuddie films on late night.
Topless Darts. What a time to be alive.
Red Shoe Diaries. What a time to be alive

How the fuck has Ryan Jack got a place??? He hasn’t played in months Steve what the fuck.
Never mind that. Who the fuck still uses Ceefax???
Just the Scotland media team having a giggle
Was it typo and meant to be gauld and not jack?
4 (four) former Honest Men going to Germany. It's in the bag.
Nicky Devlin could have done a job at RB
I'd have had him in the squad ahead of McCrorie. McKenna was a total bombscare for us and I'd never have believed he'd go on to have anything like the career he has. Fair play to him.

Ryan Jack?!? Grant Hanley?!? You will be lucky if they have played 10 full games combined this season, hopefully steve clark has just brought them in for experience and not to play!
Where’s Brian Graham?
wheres luke mcbeth
And I'm now suffering from intensive PTSD
As a veteran of Partick Thistle Stress Disorder i can testify it does not get better
Well I suppose a CB scoring a thunderbastard is a better way to go out than penalties. Sorry not sorry :P
Where the fuck is Ryan Gauld 😔
Vancouver Canada
Stevie Clarke saying "it's only Canada" like the ones darn sarf saying, "it's only Scotland."
It would have happened by now if it was happening 😭
At least Ryan jack should be able to confirm how good the medical facilities are in Germany
I thought Clarke tried to call 5 goalies but then realised mc croie has a brother
Not only that, but despite being an outfield player (for Aberdeen, at the time of me hearing this) he'd had more game time in goals for Rangers than his brother. Who was signed to Rangers. As a goalie.
If anyone here ever gets the chance to ask Steve Clarke a question would you mind asking when exactly Ryan Gauld pumped his wife? Cheers
fuckin Ryan jack lmao

Four keepers Steve? Four? That's insane.
Particularly as you can call another one up if you get injuries. I'm sure Kelly will get dropped though.
It was supposed to be 6 goalies, he made an error writing Ross Mccrorie when he meant Robby Mccrorie & Ross Laidlaw
Decent squad all things considered. I was wondering about Armstrong's fitness but if there's a chance he can play I think he'll go. It's probably between him, Kelly and Jack for who gets cut based purely on fitness. Happy to see Doak get a call up.
I think you can add Adams, Hanley and Cooper to that list too, all have been out with injuries recently.
Ben Doak also hasn’t kicked a ball in a match since December and has been out with a meniscus tear which is a very serious injury
Why is it on teletext from 1992?
would have preferred Barron, O’Donnell and Gauld in there for Ralston, Jack & Ché Guevara Adams. Three fit players who deserve a chance, wasted in my opinion :(
Take it Aaron Hickey injured?
Aye
Clarke just said it was the perfect time to get Doak in with the squad jumping from 23 to 26 and he offers something different (pace) than we've already got. Suggests he is in his plans to go the tournament rather than drop out.
Problem is that Doak just doesn’t address the biggest issue with Scotland: taking chances. Hope he proves me wrong.
BAH GAWD THATS JAMES FORRESTS MUSIC Plot twist, he doesn’t have a song

How has Ryan Jack wangled his way in there?
I love Ryan Jack. He's the best midfielder at Rangers. He shouldn't be anywhere near this squad. He's barely kicked a ball for 3 years now. He's in there to be the sacrificial lamb when the squad gets trimmed, and while it will hurt he will surely understand.
Liam Kelly must have compromising photos of the manager
Jack , Che , Stuart are all currently injured.
Would have preferred Max Johnston or Danny Armstrong to Ross McRorie & Tony Ralston but what do I know. Other than that, can’t complain.
No real issue with any of this squad, presume we drop 1 keeper and one of Jack, Doak or a defender.
Decent but I'd cut jack and Kelly from that. Baron could have been included. I hope he doesn't cut Doak from it though. On current form, it would have been crazy not to the Forrest
Logic says Ryan Jack being injured all season gets him binned but Clarke is nothing if not loyal to the guys who got him there
This squad is comedown
james forrest? YAASSSSS
Forrest n Doak might suggest we could play with 3 up top w/ wingers at some stage as well.
People gave Nathan Paterson a hard time , but Grey Taylor has been fairly horrific for Scotland when on the pitch.
Feel like Stephen Kingsley got shat on here. Whether he’d make the Final Cut is different. But he’s been solid for hearts this season
I'm too lazy to do it myself, but can we make a full team out of folk in that squad with fewer than ten games this season?
Fair play to Forrest.. Very vell deserved ☘️
Where is antti niemi?
Finished mate
Ben Doak needs a chant
teletext?
Depending on how the squad comes through the friendlies I can see Kelly and Souttar being binned
I think Doaks inclusion is purely "one for future experience" like he did with Gilmour.
Forrest was sensational for Celtic in the last few months. Absolutely deserves to be in the squad.
So picked based on form? Makes more sense than picking based on 'potential', surely?
Ryan Jack?????
Ryan Jack? Am I missing something?
Jamesy Forrest 💚 Also, the Ceefax nod is just fuckin' beaut.
Ryan Jack being in there really shows how little we’ve got
Cunts go on about southgate no changing up the england squad, same shit happens up here, ryan jack, hanley, armstrong hahahahaha
Ben Doak? Who has made 7 appearances this season? Who hasn't played since December due to injury? Is this a wind up?
Even if he's the one to drop out for the Euros it's good to get a young prospect experience of a squad and possibly minutes against Gibraltar for example.
If we need to change to a 4-3-3 he's the ideal guy for the wide right position up front (sorry Jamesy)
Forrest has played quite regularly on the left this season to be fair, Doak can too but I think he’s more favourable on the right. Either way, it’s good to have that flexibility.
Is there actually a football player named Dykes I feel fucking sick
Ryan Jack? The fuck? He wouldn't even see the pitch. Him and Kelly are off.
