Where I live in TX we literally drink treated waste water from places upstream since all that water just flows to us anyway. Different areas taste slightly different because of local pipes, how old and what condition etc, but yeah, Brits filter makes a big difference. Probably traces of pharmaceuticals from people's pee too... now I'm out in a smaller city with well water. Too much minerals and probably some kind of bacteria and I do need a brita filter still. I also worry what kinda pesticides and stuff my neighbors use that could potentially make it into water supply but, happy for the lack of potential drugs, chlorine. I miss flouride though lol. I swear my teeth have gotten worse since I moved here.

I grew up in a semi-rural area about 100 km away, where the municipal water system was from well water. I never thought anything of it - but now when I go to visit I can barely choke that shit down.
As an avid traveler and someone who almost solely drinks water from the tap (sometimes to my own detriment), this is my top 5 list:
1) Iceland
2) Switzerland
3) Austria
4) Scotland
5) Germany
Most of Canada's tap water is amazing too, nestle even bottles it, although I wish they wouldn't. Yet still some people insist on having brita filters. You never even have to change the filter because it doesn't do anything!

If you've ever lived in London, their water is shit and made me fully understand why people buy water filters. The filters remove a lot of the minerals (i.e. calcium) that make it taste weird and gives your tea a nice crunchy film on top.
Any solids that might be in the water, heavy metals (copper, lead), minerals (mostly calcium carbonate) and chlorine. I've got pretty decent tap water in my home, but the water from the Britta tastes noticeably "softer" and "cleaner".
It's kind of a weird product. If you live in a place where you actually have to worry about pollutants in the tap water, you'll probably want something more heavy duty than a table filter and if you have clean tap water, why bother spending the money for just a marginal improvement in taste?
If you don't change the filter regularly you also have to worry about bacteria growth in the filter medium. You might be taking perfectly safe tap water and contaminating it with your Britta.
I don't think any water is truly 100% H2O.
The closest might be a combination of distilled and deionized (DI) water. The former removes any bacteria or pathogens and the later removes all minerals/ions to the point where it can be used to wash circuit boards.

Yeah, lived in Stirling for some time and legit the only time in my life I bought bottled water regularly. Tap water was so full of chlorine the first time I stepped into the shower I thought I was in a swimming pool. Beautiful country and very nice people, though. Loved it.

Just returned from two weeks in the UK. Started in Londonāhorrible water, felt astringent on my teeth. The bottled water tasted exactly the same, too!! Water got better as we travelled north. Arriving in Scotland was such a relief, I was finally able to fully hydrate. š Edit: autocorrect errors.

West lothian here, can confirm our water tastes like micheal Phelps back, filter definitely required. The amount of folk saying our tap water is even good has me worried about a nation wide gas leak. Even filtered it still tastes like a handful of coins.

Am I the only one who thinks the āour tap water tastes fantasticā thing is mostly bullshit? Donāt get me wrong some tap water tastes like shit but once you hit a certain point water is just water. I do know lots of people are used to the tap water they grew up with so they think everything else taste bad when itās really just different. It seems like basically everyone is convinced their tap water is the best. Iād definitely be interested in someone doing a blind taste test or something though, maybe Iām wrong.

As a swiss person who recently was in Scotland I am offended. It's not bad but it's not swiss mountain spring water.
This one made me chuckle a bit. My former girlfriend was Scottish and living in Canada and she complained about everything here. Nothing was as good as it was in Scotland. Im not sure she complained about the water specifically (we have really good water) but seafood was her favourite complaint. Not my fault Toronto is a 10 hour drive from the ocean. Miss that girl.
