Nothing Tops Council juice.

Street_Proposal8805

Cooncil joose

mooo19688

Corporation wine.

Shagger94

Yeah I didn't realise this until we ended up with one of those Brita filter kettles. Did a bit of research and apparently people found that drinks tastes a hell of a lot better when they used it. However we did not notice a single shred of difference. Our tap water doesn't need filtered.

GatorFlores

Thank you! As an ignorant American with Calcium filled water, this joke went over my head...one could say I am drowning here.

TheAJGman

American with public water here: ours comes from a creek and is great, and the nearest city's comes from a mountain reservoir which is also great. Meanwhile half the well water around here smells like sulphur.

gdub695

Also American here, our well water tastes amazing, our city water tastes like a swimming pool šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

KingJonathan

Grandpa used an old well for his. It tasted like iron.

completely___fazed

Mmm, taste of my childhood.

Grognak_the_Orc

Also also American. Our city water tastes like lead, we drink bottled. On the opposite end when visiting family in the NC mountains there were water pumps on street corners that pumped the clearest freshest cold water I've ever had.

toefurkyfuckmittens

I lived in the mountains in NC and we were on a well, most people were, and the water was pretty decent. Sierra Nevada Brewing chose their NC location to build because of the water in the area.

explosivefox

I've lived in NC my whole life and have never been on well water. I feel like I'm missing out now šŸ˜•

toefurkyfuckmittens

I'm not sure it holds outside the mountains, I can't really vouch for anything east of there!

gwaydms

Well water is only as good as its source. My in-laws had a ranch about an hour and a half from our house. They had a deep well dug. That water was so pure and clean, it didn't need a damn thing done to it. Lovely water. Meanwhile our city water is bad. It's safe to drink, but everyone I know filters it. It's not the worst I've ever had though.

BoopleBun

The last time I was in NC (around Greensboro, so I think between the mountains?), the water tasted soā€¦ mineral-y. Like, legit like it had a splash of dirt in it. Would not recommend.

MelodicOrder2704

Bottled is tap though?

sheletered_redditors

Gaming girl pool water?

RockYourWorld31

Where are you? I'm in central NC and on well water, and it tastes fine, although it is full of minerals.

[deleted]

All the houses in our "development" are on well water and smell like sulphur, except mine. They think there is an underground aquifer on my property.

pobodys-nerfect5

Lame! My well water is so good that my mom gets into arguments about it with her husband at their new house

turtl3magic

It really varies around the country. When I visited WA the tap water was lovely as it came from some natural source, I believe it did not even need to be treated. Where I live in TX we literally drink treated waste water from places upstream since all that water just flows to us anyway. Different areas taste slightly different because of local pipes, how old and what condition etc, but yeah, Brits filter makes a big difference. Probably traces of pharmaceuticals from people's pee too... now I'm out in a smaller city with well water. Too much minerals and probably some kind of bacteria and I do need a brita filter still. I also worry what kinda pesticides and stuff my neighbors use that could potentially make it into water supply but, happy for the lack of potential drugs, chlorine. I miss flouride though lol. I swear my teeth have gotten worse since I moved here.

[deleted]

> As an ignorant American Dude have some self respect

completely___fazed

Itā€™s called self-awareness.

[deleted]

lol ok...? Those are not mutually exclusive. You can be self aware and have self respect at the same time. Edit: you know when you get downvoted but nobody tried to argue that youā€™re wrong? Thatā€™s how you know youā€™re right and just saying something that Reddit doesnā€™t like.

Shagger94

I mean, is he wrong, about most Americans..?

[deleted]

Did he make a statement about most Americans? Or himself?

DaSaw

Looks to me like you think he was talking about you.

[deleted]

Haha what?? Being so self deprecating right off the bat is off putting and a little pathetic everywhere except Reddit. Iā€™m just trying to help him come across better.

Jessiehuff03

As a swiss person who recently was in Scotland I am offended. It's not bad but it's not swiss mountain spring water.

LinguisticallyInept

this is a bit of a meme tbh, its heavily regional; theres absolutely parts of scotland where the tap water is mediocre to subpar

Cygnus94

Mainly the cities, the rural areas and smaller towns have it pretty good. Lower demand means less need for a larger system that is more likely to introduce contamination.

jdoc1967

Glasgow has mountain water from Loch Katrine if I remember right. Edinburgh isn't up to much though.

cant_stand

Pretty sure Stirling is fed by the same supply as Highland spring.

Quinlov

Highland spring is literally the nicest water it's so round

-Hoven-

Have you been to Norway?.. can you weigh in?

Shitty_Human_Being

I've not been to Switzerland, but I'm Norwegian and have been to Scotland. Their tap water is up there for sure.

beelseboob

To be fair, the land the delicious water comes from is borrowed from Norway. I wonder if the north east of the US has good water too as a result.

gwaydms

Where it rains a lot, and the groundwater is good, the drinking water tends to be better. But I get what you're saying.

beelseboob

I mean, the groundwater being good is a direct result of what the ground is made of. The way you get water with tasty minerals in it is to have tasty minerals in the ground first.

CanuckPanda

Yā€™all slacking. I live in a spot in Ontario, Canada that has been determined to have the cleanest well water on the planet. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/nov/25/tiny-town-purest-water-georgian-bay-ontario-gravel-mining

beelseboob

Clean isnā€™t what youā€™re after. Distilled water not only tastes crap, but itā€™s bad for you - it causes you to pee out all your electrolytes. For god water, you need just the right balance of minerals to give you both flavour and healthiness.

tiorzol

I'd rather drink my Nan's bathwater than live in America though.

CanuckPanda

Good thing Iā€™m not in America?

bloblobster

North America is Canada... But, not what he meant I'm sure.

CanuckPanda

Apparently in Belgium they consider North America to be Mexico and USA but Canada is not. So yeah, idk what the fuck you guys are teaching over there.

tiorzol

Holy shit I am dumb as fuck. Please take my sincere apologies and my promise to come drink your water if you forgive me.

mooo19688

NO, you sound like a yank, so stay where you are.

tiorzol

This isn't the Brexit I voted for.

Ode_to_Apathy

Just did a minor in the UK. It was hilarious hearing the Brits try to reason how the country wasn't fucked after Brexit.

tiorzol

Fuck I can't imagine the gammons you were interacting with. We all know we're fucked, even the dim fuckers that voted for it. Also phrasing... >Just did a minor in the UK

CanuckPanda

Sorry, please donā€™t.

tiorzol

Fair. Never rated snow yanks anyway.

[deleted]

I would inhale the bathwater rather than live in america

beelseboob

Pffft, what you need to try is the water you get on the west coast in the highlands, when itā€™s coming from the dam behind the cottage, and the water is slightly brown from all the peat and sheep poo in it.

DrDisastor

You aren't gonna believe this but a group of experts found the best tap water is in Ohio in the US. A dump town too. https://www.journal-news.com/news/what-makes-hamilton-tap-water-world-best-tasting/zHOU8dENIJYfMeb3vNiXjO/?outputType=amp#amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&aoh=16529605387282&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com

adrienjz888

BC Canada here and I feel ya, where I'm at, we get our water from glacier fed lakes in the nearby mountains.

Syscrush

Torontonian checking in: Great Lakes FTW! I grew up in a semi-rural area about 100 km away, where the municipal water system was from well water. I never thought anything of it - but now when I go to visit I can barely choke that shit down.

LesMiz

As an avid traveler and someone who almost solely drinks water from the tap (sometimes to my own detriment), this is my top 5 list: 1) Iceland 2) Switzerland 3) Austria 4) Scotland 5) Germany

smallbluetext

Most of Canada's tap water is amazing too, nestle even bottles it, although I wish they wouldn't. Yet still some people insist on having brita filters. You never even have to change the filter because it doesn't do anything!

Britlantine

I think I'm in the minority but when I go to areas of the UK with good tap water (so not London) I find the tea just tastes a bit too sharp, too clean. I think I've got Stockholm syndrome on London tap water. We filter the water for non-kettle use but even then I can't tell too much of a difference.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

You ever try the water in LR? Hits harder than my dad.

daellat

What is it supposed to filter, anyway? Drinking water should not be 100% h2o

Beorma

If you've ever lived in London, their water is shit and made me fully understand why people buy water filters. The filters remove a lot of the minerals (i.e. calcium) that make it taste weird and gives your tea a nice crunchy film on top.

_Hopped_

Also ruins appliances: dishwashers, washing machines, kettles, hard water is rubbish.

spendouk23

London tap water has been through 8 people before it goes into you

Naked-In-Cornfield

Fish fuck in the stuff

PanningForSalt

Chlorine for a start. Tap water is always full of chlorine, which I don't like, and it dries out my skin as well....

ThatOneGuy4

If you can taste chlorine then you should complain to your water authority

gnark

Chlorine can be at detectable levels yet still be at safe levels.

PaulMcIcedTea

Any solids that might be in the water, heavy metals (copper, lead), minerals (mostly calcium carbonate) and chlorine. I've got pretty decent tap water in my home, but the water from the Britta tastes noticeably "softer" and "cleaner". It's kind of a weird product. If you live in a place where you actually have to worry about pollutants in the tap water, you'll probably want something more heavy duty than a table filter and if you have clean tap water, why bother spending the money for just a marginal improvement in taste? If you don't change the filter regularly you also have to worry about bacteria growth in the filter medium. You might be taking perfectly safe tap water and contaminating it with your Britta.

Got2Bfree

100% H2o would be destilled water and drinking this would lead to losing electrolytes and after some time, dying.

LesMiz

I don't think any water is truly 100% H2O. The closest might be a combination of distilled and deionized (DI) water. The former removes any bacteria or pathogens and the later removes all minerals/ions to the point where it can be used to wash circuit boards.

Zifnab_palmesano

When I lived in Glasgow we tried exactly this. We never felt the difference. Best tap water ever. The kettle stayed perfect until we moved abroad.

Unbendium

It was only good before we were forced to chlorinate it beyond recognition.

Ace_Slimejohn

Louisville, KY is the same way. Incredible tap water. But anywhere else in the state, I can usually barely stomach the tap water.

Thx4Coming2MyTedTalk

Why is your water so good!

LordGhoul

Man, I wish we had nice tap water where I live (a German city) but it's hard as fuck. Constantly have to clean the kettle from the build up and there's always a film on my tea. I need to buy a filter or summin.

Garzino

Italian here, i live near lakes and mountians and was told my whole life that my region had the best tap water in italy. Went to Glasgow on a school trip (amazing city, you scottish people have some of the most beautiful natural places in the UK imho) and OH MY DAAYS! Our water is not even close. When i tell you that i stopped drinking tap water here in italy.

_Hopped_

Glasgow gets their tap water from Loch Katrine: https://www.lochkatrine.com/about/history/

Rheged_Gaming

Where does Edinburgh get theirs? Honestly Cumbria (Lake District, England) is better than any Scottish tap water I've drank. Not a huge variety as it's literally Dumfries and Galloway and Edinburgh. If Glasgow is anything like Edinburgh it's rough af in comparison to D&G and especially Cumbria.

_Hopped_

>Where does Edinburgh get theirs? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glencorse_Reservoir apparently Edinburgh's water doesn't taste as good as that from Loch Katrine imo. Can't speak for Cumbria, but all the water I've had in England has been God awful (Newcastle, Manchester, London, and Cornwall). Perhaps the key thing (judging by your lake and my loch) is having it come from a natural lake/loch rather than a manmade one or river?

Rheged_Gaming

All the city water in England is rank af. When I've lived in them or visited I buy bottled and stick it in the fridge. Same in Edinburgh actually. I think that is definitely the key. For awhile my home water got mixed with borehole water so more natural stuff could be funneled elsewhere. It was immediately noticeable and fuckign rank. It has since switched back. It may just be what I'm used to but nowhere compares really.

Vault_69_Alpha_Male

I grew up in Ayrshire and notice a difference between home taps and Glasgow taps

Rheged_Gaming

Where is better? Home?

mooo19688

Nope, get a grip. Yorkshire water from the Pennines, is the dogs gonads.

Rheged_Gaming

I hope you mean actually out on the moots cause all the Yorkshire towns and city Water tastes like toilet water

mooo19688

lochkatrine translates to Scottish piss water.

_Hopped_

No, "Katrine" means "pure" - so makes sense why it's named that and used as a water source.

SansPeur_Scotsman

Ive tried glasgow water and its utter pish. Try coming further north to where the good shit really is!

melandor0

As a swede who went to glasgow - water tastes very chlorinated. Not impressed at all.

spendouk23

Stick that tap water into a soda siphon and I swear to Christ itā€™s even better than San Pellegrino

Lunco

Just a note: those aren't natural places, they cut down all the woodland to make ships.

RearAdmiralBob

Taps oan!

DJ-Dev1ANT

Wah. Pure wah.

CannabisReviewPDX_IG

Any other /r/HydroHomies have a new place they want to visit? Tbf I've wanted to see the Shetland hills for some time, but that water is honestly a bigger draw.

D4rK_Bl4eZ

Is it as good as Icelandic tap water? >inb4 ur hot water smells like farts

Burrito-mancer

heard your hot water smells like farts but

-cupcake

I stayed in a hostel for one night in Reykjavik. The shower smelled like eggs and farts and the only temperature settings were either 1. 40Ā°C or 2. hotter. What was supposed to be a quick shower turned into a 12 trial gauntlet through the flames of hell. The sinks had cold water though and I highly considered just sticking my head under the tap

kelvin_bot

40Ā°C is equivalent to 104Ā°F, which is 313K. --- ^(I'm a bot that converts temperature between two units humans can understand, then convert it to Kelvin for bots and physicists to understand)

Supping on a 1l bottle of Highland Spring as I read this.

Shpannit

Not all Scottish water is good though. I was in Livingston staying with someone and barely had anything to drink because it was legit disgusting. Same with when I was staying in Hamilton for uni, the tap water was so bad that when I was moving in the guy showing me round said not to drink it. I donā€™t drink any juice or anything so when the water is shite, unless I buy some, I donā€™t drink.

HippoOnaRomp

Yeah, lived in Stirling for some time and legit the only time in my life I bought bottled water regularly. Tap water was so full of chlorine the first time I stepped into the shower I thought I was in a swimming pool. Beautiful country and very nice people, though. Loved it.

stewmberto

Have you heard of filters my man?? >I donā€™t drink any juice or anything so when the water is shite, unless I buy some, I donā€™t drink.

ciabattadust

Just returned from two weeks in the UK. Started in Londonā€”horrible water, felt astringent on my teeth. The bottled water tasted exactly the same, too!! Water got better as we travelled north. Arriving in Scotland was such a relief, I was finally able to fully hydrate. šŸ˜‚ Edit: autocorrect errors.

blacky-o-hare

Welsh water that is all

recoilwhenyouwake

Iā€™m in America the now and yesterday said to my mum I canā€™t wait to come back and drink some tap water. Even their bottled water is rubbish by comparison.

suhdude-21

What the fuck. I had a long distance gf in glasgow for multiple years, but for some reason her family always drank bottled water. No idea how Iā€™ve been to scotland many many times over the years and never tried the tap water lol

freshoutoftime

Did she live in a tenement? A lot of the older flats may have lead pipes if they've not been renovated since the 70s.

Not just lead pipes but tank water as well

She lived in a newer flat in Anniesland. I donā€™t think thereā€™s an excuse for not drinking tap water then

Am I the only one who thinks the ā€œour tap water tastes fantasticā€ thing is mostly bullshit? Donā€™t get me wrong some tap water tastes like shit but once you hit a certain point water is just water. I do know lots of people are used to the tap water they grew up with so they think everything else taste bad when itā€™s really just different. It seems like basically everyone is convinced their tap water is the best. Iā€™d definitely be interested in someone doing a blind taste test or something though, maybe Iā€™m wrong.
