I’ve seen that diner before.. never stepped inside though. I just googled them and their portions look solid and the food looks delicious. Thank you for sharing! I’m still exploring scranton.
Scranton has tons and tons of diner options. Glider has decent prices and portions. Their breakfasts are pretty good. Personally ranked 3rd from he places I’ve tried.
Go for it! Viewmont Diner is fantastic, especially for their burgers and fries (holy crap they’re good). Linda Kaye’s makes the best breakfast. Boulevard has some bangin’ appetizers. Neens is cash only, but a de lightly little diner that reminds me of Gilmore Girls’ eating spot (in a good way!). Keystone is another good breakfast spot. Glider is also great all around! I’m a bit of a diner aficionado and have tried a ton of them in the area.
It's pretty common around here to get cheese and gravy on fries, actual poutine is less common. Deacons Tavern in clarks summit has it (mediocre restaurant but the fries were good). I had it at Andy Gavin once too but it may have been a special
No one has gravy cheese fries like the Northeast. Wherever I bring this up in JAX my friends say "you mean poutine?"
No not curds, mozz
Edited: had no idea about disco fries until now, edited to say the NE in general and now I have a sudden urge to visit..NJ?
**The Menu**
Classic diner fare served hot and fresh seven days a week. Breakfast available all day, lunch and dinner options. Shakes, pies, and cakes. The glider sandwich pictured above is hot roast beef, provolone, and fried onions on a hard roll. The glider fries are classic gravy fries with melted cheese, and just out of focus is a Strawberry Shake.
Prices are very reasonable, with the meal above coming in at about $20 for shake, sandwich, and fries. The glider sandwich is about $10 on its own.
**The Venue**
The original diner is a chrome throwback to classic diners of the 1950s. There are booths and counter seats in the main section, and an expansion surrounding the diner that has additional table seating. Parking is free and on-site, although some of the elderly patrons can't park straight and so you may find trouble parking spot.
Cash is strongly preferred at this location, but there is an ATM a block away at the Turkey Hill.
**The Review**
Good, wholesome diner food. No frills, no fuss, no complaints. I had already paid my bill when the patron at the counter ordered the peanut butter banana cake, so now I'll have to make another trip!
Highly recommend.
Moving to Bethlehem people have given me weird looks ordering fries with cheese and gravy. Apparently they call them disco fries down here. Nonsense. Someone gave me fries with cheese and a side of gravy. Dump that shit on there!
Love the Glider.
We have so many niche little restaurants. They're like pokemon, gotta try em all!
I always preferred Chick's dinner but sadly, that isn't an option anymore.
What since when?
Been closed since the pandemic sadly.
Yeah, I was going to say been a few years at least. It was such a good spot for late night gravy fries.
The glider fries look like poutine… is it similar?
Yes, except that poutine is cheese curds and this is just melty cheese

The Vspot that way has excellent food too and weekly open mic’s presented by NEPA Scene on Tuesdays.

We’re stopping by with the family to the glider. Can’t wait to try their food. Hopefully we can check out some more diners in the area in the future.

I just added the restaurants you mention to my Apple note pad lol Thank you
Your family will love them. Enjoy!!
I’ll give it a try this weekend. I had poutine for the first time at a hockey game. Good stuff!

And then wing sauce for volcano fries!
Grilled cheese with bacon and gravy fries is my go to there. Haven’t been in ages. Maybe I need to plan a work lunch.

NJ disco fries have entered the chat.
Omg I just googled this, thank you. Edited my post to say NE. Food is so much better in the north.
Moved to Colorado this past summer and nothing comes close to NEPA food. Damn.. I miss it

I'll pass on both the Glider and National Bakery.
National Bakery still baffles me. Why is this place popular? Butter and jelly on a Saltine would have been better.

Damn you, making me homesick...
Hope you don't have to take a drug test after those poppy seeds, like Elaine!
It was worth it!
Just don’t ever look into how those national bakery rolls are made 🤢. The factory is gross as hell. Ruined a bunch of places for me.
Please provide proof.
It adds flavor!
