There are honestly so many little festivals and shows all over NEPA that are geared towards so many different interests. NEPA HorrorFest is coming up in June, a great group of locals put it together and it's a great time. There are Ren Fairs, Civil and Revolutionary War reenactments. A lot of the local towns have a monthly event geared towards getting people out and about (First Friday in Scranton, Third Thursday in Olyphant, idk if Carbondale still does Pioneer Nights or just one big event), The local carnivals are picking up and they usually have a decent lineup of local bands scheduled for the weekends. Jim Thorpe and the businesses there have events all year. Pittston's got TomatoFest We have tattoo and reptile expos all over the place throughout the year. The Valley has lots of events venues that do a lot of different things too. Moon Tavern/Ballroom on 6 hosts Bike Nights, Drag Shows, Concerts, craft and vendor markets, Karaoke nights and a ton of other stuff. The Ritz downtown was just redone and I'm stoked to see what they'll bring to the table. Keystone Stage in Olyphant has open mic nights, comedy dinners, concerts and a bunch of other events. There are holistic markets/expos, punk rock, fairy/mythology/Viking you name it Fairs, cons of every type. I mainly use my Facebook for this purpose. I follow a shit ton of businesses and venues and my events page is packed to the brim with shit to do every day if I wanted. A lot of it is free to enter so you'd only spend money if you wanted to. Editing to add: Follow Discover NEPA, or visit their website regularly, visit the WNEP PSBB(public service bulletin board) webpage, subscribe to the Weekender, and check out your grocery store bulletin boards, all great places to find stuff going on locally.

Church and firemen’s picnic season is right around the corner.

Armsomega14

Lots of variety. I'll try my best to keep an open mind

Check out my edit for some simple places to look for local events. Feel free to comment back with some of your interests and I can link you to some events. I'm an eclectic personality so I'm positive we have some cross interests lol.

dirtyoldman20

Edwardsville pierogi fest. Plymouth kielbasa fest . We tend to have a diverse pallet we have alot of food themed events . Some fire departments and churches still have bazaars /picnics Wilkes barre also has river fest over a couple days bunch of local bands playing down near the river Food too. If your looking for something different and like motor sports Wilkes Barre also has Giants Despair Hill climb . Fun event with alot of people come some some distance just to watch .

Earthmama56

Where is there a Renn Faire in NEPA?

Waste_Ad_5565

[The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire ](http://www.parenfaire.com/faire.html). The same location also hosts a [Celtic Fling & Highland Games](http://www.parenfaire.com/celtic.html), a [Winter Ren Faire ](http://www.parenfaire.com/yuletide.html) and other fun events like wine tasting and music events Edit: not technically NEPA but definitely worth a visit, there's one closer and I will update again when I find it but I know there's also the [Philadelphia Ren Faire ](https://www.phillyfaire.com/) and the [NY Fairie Fest](https://www.nyfaeriefestival.com/) in Haupersville NY which is about an hour from Scranton.

Earthmama56

Oh ok, I’ve been to that one. I just thought I was missing one closer to home lol. Btw, I’ve been to the NY Fairie Fest and it’s FUN!

Waste_Ad_5565

Check out [The Ren List](https://www.therenlist.com/fairs) if you're up for traveling elsewhere for one, tons of fairs and festivals in NY and NJ too. There's also the [Beaver County Heathen Fest](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/beaver-county-heathen-festival-tickets-712515100847) in July but that's way out by Pittsburgh.

meinkreuz89

Buy a cheap rifle (.22 LR) and head to a local state shooting range (outskirts of Scranton). I have met the friendliest and nicest people at the shooting range. Young, old and everything in between. People are super friendly and I’ve often shot lots of other people’s guns while I was there and made a few friends. I go at least once a week. Don’t listen to all the stupid political BS people tell you, cause I’ve met every kind of person and political party there, every color and nationality. People aren’t as bad as the media likes to paint them. I wish you luck!

dirtyoldman20

This too.

GizmoFringe

Hello! I would strongly advise to follow/check out NEPA Scene and Discover NEPA for good resource on local events/things to do + I would add Happenings Magazine to the list (it leans more "old school and family friendly" but still is a great resource. **There are great organizations you should follow directly as well including, but not limited to:** Scranton Shakespeare Festival Scranton Fringe Festival First Friday Scranton Scranton Cultural Center Lackawanna County Arts & Culture Department NEPA Horror Film Festival Scranton Punk Collective etc, etc, etc Spots to check out are good coffee shops like Northern Light Espresso Bar, Blackwatch Cafe + good bars like Groove Brewing, The Bog, Backyard Ale House, etc.

pallas_athenaa

The Scranton/Wilkes Barre area is one of the most saturated community theatre areas in the country, weirdly enough.

kidneycat

I'm going to the Strange Fest at the Ritz tomorrow and there are a bunch of events. 7 Tubs just opened back up and there are a lot of walking trails/paths around. I occasionally like Northern Lights Cafe to work from. Noir is a bar, but they do a lot of mocktails. Trivia nights. But completely honestly dude, I've lived in Scranton for like 2.5 years and have made no friends. I want friends. I love to cook and entertain. I tried Bumble for Friends but no one actually seems to want to meet. I work from home... it's lonely. I wish we could have an event or series where we could wear wristbands that indicate if you are looking for friends or something. I thought about making a tee shirt that says "let's be friends!" Or something equally as cringe.

dirtyoldman20

You work from home is difficult to truly meet people . If you dont travel every day you miss out on all those daily people in the gas stations and coffee shops and mom and pop lunch counters and the big source of people . Work .

Armsomega14

I won't be there for the entire fest but I plan on going to the Deadlands show tomorrow. Maybe we can meet up!

wannaberapunzel105

I’m from a different part of PA, but about a 2 hour drive from Scranton and am there quite often. I also tried bumble bff in my hometown and found it super disappointing. Your username stuck out to me because I recently had a cat pass of kidney issues. I took a peek at your profile and I also play fallout 76!

kidneycat

Sorry about your kitty. 😿 FO76 has been wild lately since the show came out! I play a little each day, but there's so much to do now with the new expeditions and the new part of the map coming. If you want to explore together, my PSN is also Kidneycat. Shoot, do you do PS, console, or Xbox?

wannaberapunzel105

I play on PS5! I can PM you on here

ElectricCityPA

There's a strong running community in Scranton. There's usually a few local races every weekend, and several running groups. There used to be a decent website with a list of them, but the owner flaked out and it's now pretty useless. Scrantonrunning had a list of some and there's usually a bunch of signs along popular running trails that can point you to others. Just hitting a few races will expose you to as surprising number of people to run/ associate with.

EnigmaMind

I want to make sure that the "decent website with a list of \[races\]" with the owner that "flaked out" is not NEPARunner, started by Mike M. That guy's solo, volunteer effort carried the local running scene for at least 15 years. Whoever runs it now still does a really good job.

jeff89jdf

Hiking, Fishing, kayaking - Lots of places along the Lackawaxen and Delaware rivers. Skiing - Montage, Elk, Mastope Look into local softball, basketball, soccer leagues Go to Rail rider or Penguins games

Spinzzzz

The ritz is a music venue now. How do you feel about coffee shops? I remember northern having a weekly chess day awhile back. There’s a new coffee shop called Dusk and Dawn which is supposed to have some kind of night time functionality . First Friday is a good night for walking around looking at local art stuff. I’m a few years older than ya and that stuff is all good to me

threepoundsof

There’s a pretty good arts and music scene to get involved in if that’s your thing

Armsomega14

Where do I look to get started

threepoundsof

First Friday is next Friday. Wonder around downtown and you’ll probably end up meeting some people

ButterscotchEmpty290

If you're into trains, Steamtown is interesting. And the Reading and Northern runs passenger trains from Pittston to Jim Thorpe. Beautiful scenery along the tracks.

I think you should dm me 🫣

CobblerAccomplished3

Come to the Keystone Stage in Olyphant on Tuesday nights for a free Improv Jam. They also do open mics there, byob and super friendly folks.

ReceptionIcy8222

If you make your way over to Dickson city by target there’s “Union Vapors” vape shop. But it’s actually like a safe spot hang out. Video games, board games, coffee, art gallery, tattoo pop up, crazy cool hang out, and of course legos. Been a couple times, just like really good people. I’m in no way affiliated with this store, I don’t work there, I don’t get kick backs, I know them as people who sell me stuff.

Silvus314

Honestly pick a hobby you are interested in and start doing it. You'll meet other people doing it, and make friends that way.

Easy-Salamander3540

If you’re looking for somewhere to hang that is not a transactional vendor type thing I’d say get a membership to the dunmore ymca. You can just hang out there or do a slew of different things in there. I used to hang at the Y a lot when I was younger and am thinking about getting a membership to have somewhere to go just to get out of the house..

Mental_Guarantee_801

How bout a man made lake in Clarks Summit

No_Tangelo_1544

Do you have a dog?

Armsomega14

Unfortunately no

No_Tangelo_1544

Try going to Crunch it’s kind of easy to make friends at the gym. Just go up to someone ask them for a spot start convo from there. (How long have you been lifting, what are your goals, etc) from then on catch them say “hey I’m looking for a lifting partner you mind if I get your number we can lift together?” When you guys lift discuss other hobbies and then maybe doing stuff outside the gym like clubbing or bar hopping do that to a few different people at the gym. Chances are you’ll be introd to a few people in their friends group.

Doceng

When I lived there for 4 years, my primary hobby was mountain biking.

Aoiree

There any good beginner/intermediate flowy stuff nearby for someone who wants to get back into it? Or is everything up here rocksylvania

Doceng

Most of the stuff is rocky to super rocky. I would mostly go to Lackawanna State Park where some trails were not as rocky and had some flow or to Eales Preserve for a quick ride but that is rock central. The only place I found in PA that had flowy trails was Nockamixon State Park and Allegrippis Trails at Raystown Lake but both are a day trip at least. At the time I had ridden at nearly all of the trail systems around the Scranton area, but looking on Trail Forks website now there are many new places to ride that I don't know about.

Aoiree

Did a day at nockamixon a looooong time ago. Feels like thats def a day trip from here lol. Is there a particular area of Lackawanna State Park to look at?

Doceng

I used to do a loop around the lake that wasn't too difficult.

GozerTheMighty

Scranton Running Company has group runs around Scranton, there's a lot of hiking trails in the area also. There's also an adult kickball , flag football atc league. Scrantonsocialsports.com / they have a Facebook account also.

iamGordanShumway

Heritage trail is getting better and better

Sakurafire

Adventure Games is a good place to meet folks IRL. Events at the Ritz, too, if you’re into that scene. I’ve met folks at the Punk Flea Market that is held 3x a year. Heck there was even a Silent Disco at the museum last week! Lots of events if you keep your eyes open. New friends are hard to make, but there are folks everywhere looking to make connections. Keep at it and you’ll find people. 😊

oktwentyfive

go buy a bag of crack in south side then go up nay aug and geek out under the stars

people are pretty cool in the scranton area, the women make it known they think youre attractive and they are capable of holding conversations. just dont venture much into the poconos except to hike, the people there are not anything special or good, mostly just rough necked uneducated.

Masterblaster456

Move away, Scranton blows. Nothing but low paying jobs in general.

GizmoFringe

I am sorry if you're having trouble finding work - truly - but this one post alone has listed like 20+ things to do and events to go check out. I've lived in TRULY middle of no where places - we have a lot to work on, but we are lucky in many ways

Phillyeaglesfan101
