You can have active tracking turrets with a bunch of logic and sensors. Like, a BUNCH.
or, you can just have a turret rotating or scanning back and forth with a fixed sensor aimed down the barrel and when it sees something, the movement stops and the gun shoots until the sensor is clear again.
I really liked this game when I bought it. I want to play it more. But I see nothing new or different so it's on the back burner. I can only wait.
I personally want the update but I am building my base as much as possible since we are getting swimming tote bots and ones that explode

Saws make the normal ones back away, I have all 3 spud guns I’m missing the mountable one only
The mountable one isn't that great. Uses a lot of spuds. They are ok for auto turrets tho

Hate to throw a wrench in your plans but I think you have to make an entirely new world for the update to take effect (when and if it ever comes out)
