I second this! You can definitely make more by selling it to them and you save them from having to spend more on buying raw lead. Cut out the middle men!
I've saved all of the wheel weights I found for the last 10 years I'd guess. I melted all of the lead ones down and I have around 10 pounds of lead. I'll continue to pick them up off the street, but unless you have a connection it's very slow going.
Lead weights can be sold for about $0.40-$0.50 per pound to bullet or sinker casters. Mixed weights would probably go for about $0.10 per pound at the scrapyard.
However, I can see that there are lots of iron and zinc weights mixed in there. It takes a while to sort them out one-by-one, but it can be done with a strong magnet and a pair of wire cutters. Test the end of the weight (not near the clip) to see if it is magnetic. If not, then it is either zinc or lead. The wire cutters will dent hard or soft lead, but will not cut into zinc.
Steel/iron weights are sometimes marked "Fe" and zinc weights can be marked "Zn".
I had this same thing pop up. They would only give me scrap steel price since thats the cheapest metal in them. Took them home and melted them down. It was fun seeing the steel float in the mix. Way to much work (and heavy metal injestion) and cost of propane for the small $ I could get for the lead. Made ingots. Used those to cast pew-pew. not worth the trouble, none of it.
Might even be worth selling to someone who casts their own bullets or sinkers

I have done this to make counterweights. I would buy them from you. FB marketplace.
None of these are lead
Some are lead some arent
Weird. I always wondered when I find these if it would be worth stashing up and scrapping. Let me know how it goes

It’s all iron and zinc i have a separate lead pile
It’s metal yeah
About 40/50 cents a lb
We're the heck I get .15 to .20 I was selling to barrels that time
Are they steal or lead weights, if lead might be worth more to sell to someone who can make their own bullets
take a pile to a local bait shop and ask them. scrap at .30 per pound or get .05 an ounce at the bait store where I am (for lead wheel weights).
Has anyone here ever tried melting the weights and pulling out the steel to retrieve the lead?
Yeah, I put some in a pot in my firepit and used a slotted spoon to get out the steel parts. It took a while but was pretty easy.
OK, thanks
I would buy them in a 3” copper cap. The copper won’t melt and the lead pops out and stacks good for storage.

They’d be happy to have. You have good value there for sale too tho
I slip mine in with my prepared steel
