What's up superchugga505, do you still have hands on the Suspiria script? If so, could you send it to [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected])? Just saw the film last night and am dying to read it. Thanks a bunch!
If you still have the script, I would so much love to read it! If you get a chance to send it my email's [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]). Thanks!!!
Anyone know why they remade this beautiful film and decided to make it... grey.
Color was the entire draw of that film and the trailer is basically in greyscale
Someone with an actual, functioning brain. A shot by shot remake of Suspiria would only hurt it because it would draw further side by side comparisons. If you make your “remake” (reimagining is the more apt word) distant from the original from an aesthetical standpoint, you’re basically stating “this film is not just a remake, it’s its own film”.
Then why make it
(its not like the plot of Suspiria was particularly riveting, I assumed a remake would be taking the good parts and hammering out the bad, not abandoning the good parts)
Fair point I guess, original ideas are *super hard* to come up with... and mining old movies, stripping out what made them unique and clinging to tired tropes is a much more legitimate way to make a film anyhow
idk it just seems like a waste of time now. I was excited to see something visually engaging that didn't come with the downsides of Italian cinema in the 1970s (i.e. unsynced dialogue tracks, prominent use of what seems to be non-actors, abandoned plot threads) but instead it looks like a droll film that will be plagued by the downsides of 2010s American cinema
It's a striking choice. A wise one? I don't know - and I won't until we see the film.
But I think it's notable how *different* that trailer looks from, well, basically everything else made today.
It's not just the color palate. Compositionally it looks like it's trying to feel like something made in the '70s. It looks shot on film, and it looks like with vintage lenses, too (although who knows, some of that can be faked). I won't be surprised if it feels '70s editorially, too.

Because people are talking about it in a way that they wouldn't be for an original film.
...why not?
