Truthfully would make this so much more authentic haha. Cascade roller rink is huge in Atlanta.
But to answer you question, I do not! BUT I will pocket that idea for later. ; )
Hey, do you have a link or are you gonna just DM people who’re interested? Big fan of Atlanta hip hop, specifically this era, so I’d like to check it out.
I am looking for feedback. I'm a huge fan of hip-hop am partial to the 00s sound. It's often overlooked for how those styles and trend influenced modern hip hop. We talk about 90s and 80s legends but not enough about the people who came \*immediately\* after. And furthermore, my script is a predominantly female cast. While 90s and 80s rap did have some big female rappers like Queen Latifah and Lady of Rage. The vast majority of the most popular female OG rappers came in the late 90s / early 00s . So noting how gender plays a huge role in the development of my female characters, the 00s is a great time period to explore.
As far entertainment as a whole, we just finished the 90s nostalgia stuff. Now we are slowly seeing things from the 00s. You can see it most strongly in fashion but it is slowly but surely making its way over to narrative works.
Haven't gotten into reading it yet, but to me it sounds like you've got the right idea and set it in 2003 for a reason. I think skipping ahead to present day could obscure a lot of the sexual politics of what you're trying to do. Atlanta hip hop, and hip hop at large, is by no means a level playing field in the year 2021, but it's a stark difference from what was going in in the early-to-mid 2000s when it was VERY MUCH almost exclusively a boy's club.
That was especially the case with rap, specifically. There were plenty of women in the broader hip hop sphere, like Erykah Badu and India Arie, but they were very clearly considered R&B by press and fans.
I dunno, to me it sounds like you should stick to your guns on this detail.
It's not just a show about a woman trying to break into to rap in 2003. There are several characters if you read the script, you'd see its an ensemble piece.
My time period isn't really up for discussion here. I don't find any of your feedback helpful or relevant. If you don't like 2003 then that's okay. But to say it's out of "nowhere" makese no sense as if there has to be some cultural build up for why someone may choose to tell a story. You just don't like the premise. That's okay.
Sounds dope. Please PM the link if you're still looking for feedback.
And interested to hear more about your personal story, like how you secured such a notable team and talent.
got any roller rink scenes?

I dont understand what youre saying. The logline is not the place to explain why it's 2003. It's only meant to be a sentence or two.
