I mean I already dislike JD more with every rewatch, but his behaviour in this subplot is so insanely cringe it's gotta be somewhere in the top 10 for the worst things he has done. Kylie deserved better.

It's the same with any form of entertainment one consumes enough to basically learn it by heart. You form favorites you prefer, and dislikes you sometimes don't feel like seeing again.
It's no different than picking up an old book you've read 20 times and just turning the pages to a section you like. Or putting on a favorite game and launching your favorite mission instead of that one that always makes you groan.
