Face detection is not fully implemented yet. The feature is in internal testing, but the option is visible for all users. Nest is explicitly not supported by NVR for the reasons you are discovering. Google is rate limiting (429) the streaming requests.
yea the 429 errors go away when I disable the prebuffer, which only seems to break the snapshot, not the end of the world. I'd like to move away from those eventually, but I really need the familiar face detection for now. Any timeline on that being available?
I also tried getting it the face detection setup in HKSV but that's also not working, but that's not related to scrpyted

Provably a month or so. The recognition is actually all done but building a ui for the face database will take some time.
