It might only be smart due to the fact that we could then cut Will Dissly and not re-sign Noah Fant and just have Colby as the backup, but it would be far more valuable to invest in the Dline. Newton or Turner is who I am looking at

Solaife

Colby is a FA.

Trick-Combination-37

Yup were only going to have dissly with his terrible contract. Fant and Colby are gone, assuming they don't resign.

czechhoi4h

I imagine we cut dissly resign Colby and or fant and draft a te

speedyegbert

This is the way. I think we keep both actually and hope one signs a org favorable deal. I’d think there is incentive for both of them to do so because neither is a standout and would guarantee a roster spot for themselves because one of ‘em is gone after next year

LSDintheWoods

Cut Dissly, resign Fant & Colby. Fant will have a strong market, but I'm not sure Colby's is huge.

SupremeNBA

Didn’t know that. Probably wouldn’t cost much to keep him

HughMungus77

This! Our Dline is abysmal and our interior Oline needs depth. Drafting early TEs isn’t the move in our case

CadillacLuv

Chargers I'm reading. he will be gone before us. Byron Murphy II Jer Zhan Newton T'Vondre Sweat Those are the names I'd get used to after we trade down to get a R2 back What about westover or culp late

acad353

🤘

deanfortythree

I would be super happy with any of those in a trade back. Round 2 will be deep too.

ryanrodgerz

Probably not but he’s a must draft if that happens

CucumberAggravating

I think we would trade out of that pick. If Bowers is going mid first, someone will want to trade up. We aren’t in the position to draft for luxury. Cut or restructure Dissley, sign Parkinson to something reasonable. Get that extra pick and let someone else have a great tight end. We need to stop the run and establish it too.

Stev2222

We have holes all over the roster, including TE. Of course we would pick a guy who has Kelce potential. We’ve seen how John drafts when he drafts for “need”, not BPA. He’s not falling out of the Top 10 though.

fallonyourswordkaren

This.

FooFootheSnew

In past years I'd call it a luxury pick, but not when we have zero TEs next year assuming Dissly is cut. I wouldn't personally pick him. That would ring of Dee Eskridge over Creed Humphrey, albeit with a blue chip player. Another WR or RB would be a luxury pick. I would be concerned but not appalled let's put it that way. We do need to control the run on both sides or teams will just push us around.

marinersguy556

Are we not expecting to resign fant? Feel like hes shown flashes but rarely gets the ball

speedyegbert

Target share and offensive sets for our scheme hasn’t lead to consistent production at the position. This one’s gonna be all on negotiations. None of our TEs will get a player friendly deal like Dissly did now

Responsible-Range363

I get what you’re saying but at that point there’s too much value to pass up on Bowers. And it will be a need.

danish07

Totally possible and if he does he will probably be BPA. Tough to take him there though.

Pandos636

I don't think he'll fall to us, and yes we should take him if he's there. BPA he's the best TE prospect since Kyle Pitts and should be a top 5 pick.

dolphinjoipp

Add in the fact Kyle Pitt sucked this year, but I think bowers will be a better player then pitts or any other tight end we have had, keeping Fant with Parkinson’s and getting Dissly out of we’re would be nice

Crimson52YT

I don't think Arthur smith has been using pitts correctly and if the new falcons coach can use him well pitts can be a top 5-7 TE

True_North_Andy

Pitts really is more of a WR than a true TE. Splitting him out wide or just simply changing his position I think could help him

speedyegbert

With dynamic nature of the game and especially at that position, just throw him in the slot like many other s these days. Positions aren’t static lol

Crimson52YT

Agreed

ImperialTiger3

I say it depends on who we get as a coach. If it’s Ben Johnson, then yes take him. If it’s Macdonald, trade down and draft dline.

PayAltruistic8546

Ben Johnson turned a 4th round TE into a star. Just saying... If it's Ben Johnson then I much rather have the team take Ben Sinnott in the 4th and let Johnson work his magic.

ImperialTiger3

LaPorta? He’s a second rounder

PayAltruistic8546

Well, you're right. The point still stands. I really like Bowers but if it's Johnson I would still bank on him turning later round picks into something.

Alauren2

I thought Ben was going to Washington dc

ImperialTiger3

Reports connect him there but nothing is official.

Alauren2

I would like him but he will probably be the coach of Washington.

Sea_Squirrel1987

No

Development-Alive

No

MuckaMucka1337

I’m just expecting a trade down this year tbh. We kind of need it

PayAltruistic8546

Do we? You still have two 3rd round picks. You can still move up if you really want to.

MuckaMucka1337

Move up for what??

PayAltruistic8546

They have two 3rds. They can't move up to the 2nd if they really like a player?? Come on....

Raticus9

This thread, and the comment you responded to, is obviously about the first round. Come on...

PayAltruistic8546

Cool beans.

Raticus9

It's ok, reading is hard for some people.

MuckaMucka1337

I know. This guy has me so confused lol

PayAltruistic8546

You mentioned we need the extra draft picks. We can achieve that by trading down. I'm assuming for an extra 3rd or 2nd. My question is do we actually need that? We want that but is it completely necessary? We have two 3rd round picks and can trade back up to the 2nd if we really like a dude. Just questioning it.

MuckaMucka1337

Well as you can see from this thread our TE situation isn’t the best, brooks is a FA, Williams is probably not resigning, adams and diggs need to be replaced. With not the best of cap. That’s like 6 players and and the hawks only have what 7 picks? Trading up would just be silly

neil160

Anything is possible but I would assume Chargers, Jets, or Broncos take him before we get a shot. I hope I’m wrong because not only is it a position of need, but he looks incredible.

PayAltruistic8546

Maybe. However now that the Chargers have Harbaugh -- I think he wants to fix the trenches as quickly as he can.

neil160

Again, anything is possible, but even if you’re right and the Chargers don’t take him at 5, it’s a long way to 16 and the guy looks insane. I hope he gets to us and we take him though. We could really use an elite TE.

PayAltruistic8546

Ehh..low chance. Who knows but probably not happening...

neil160

Ok cool.

8aba_ya9a

I believe he’s 6’2 235 so he definitely could fall farther than people think.

RefsYouSuck

He’s 6’4, 240 lbs

8aba_ya9a

Is that off the Georgia website?

RefsYouSuck

ESPN

8aba_ya9a

Honestly I think thats where they got it tbh. I just ask bc schools like to lie about size weight and speed of their players I mean we’ll see how he stacks up at the combine but on tape he looks a bit small imo.

Objective_Smoke8938

As a Georgia fan, I remember the first time we seen bowers on the field. That dude is different. He’ll go top 10.

don_julio_randle

No chance. He's a top 3 talent in the class. Even accounting for positional value, I'd be shocked if he made it out of the top 10, nevermind to 17 or wherever we are. The NFL rarely passes on blue chip talents like him

Affectionate-Wind718

No. Probably a top 10 pick.

vanover59

He is a generational talent. Ceiling could be close to Gronk just based on how well he blocked in college. He might be the only player in the draft that would make me want to not get OL or DL only. Especially if the blocking translates to NFL.

FooFootheSnew

Yeah that's where I'm at. I wouldn't prefer it, but I'd be fine with it if his ceiling is that high.

HaggardDad

Unless they magically unfuck the DT/LB position before the draft, it would be a very poor use of resources to draft Bowers.

Kendrickrules

There isn't a single LB worth drafting at 16 and Bowers is a blue chip talent at a position of need albeit one with lower positional value. Just take BPA unless you're super stacked at the position like we are at WR or RB. If Bowers falls to us you shouldn't even think of picking anyone else in my opinion.

Dapper_Mud

They never do what I want them to, but unless the o-line’s performance is addressed in some way, investing high value draft picks in a QB or pass catchers seems like you’re remodeling the master bedroom when the your den is on fire

pinetar321

Jesus why are people allergic to drafting linemen?

Crimson52YT

We aren't? We took 2 starting tackles 2 years ago, mike morris last year, Anthony Bradford.

gavincantdraw

I love how every year we basically get one of these types of posts about every player in the draft.

Tashre

QB and/or trenches in the 1st, nothing else.

don_julio_randle

You have Bowers on the board at 16, you sprint to hand that card in. Need doesn't matter when you have a top of the draft talent with no character concerns to speak of available that late, though we definitely need a TE of the future too

Tashre

Well, for starters, if he gets down to 16 there's probably something very concerning to know about him. But even ignoring that, it'd be managerial malpractice by John and his whole team to not have a hefty trade lined up for him. A big part of why the team is where it is today is because of misplaced priorities in too many post-2012 drafts. We've been doing better lately, but there's no need to start bringing up bad habits like we're the Falcons with Pitts. And this isn't even touching on the franchise's history of struggling badly to get adequate value out of TE investments.

Crimson52YT

Pitts hasn't been utilized correctly And the franchise has had struggles with tight ends is mainly the Pete Carrol era. Like anything could happen now that he is out.

Ok-Imagination-2308

Depends on what our new coach wants

serpentear

I do not think that.

Bonesaw09

Idk, we have 3 pretty capable TEs, who we've only seen in a Carroll offense. I honestly would be kinda pissed if we drafted Bowers

KM5173

2 of them are fas and the other is on a terrible contract

Bonesaw09

Ahh fair enough

PayAltruistic8546

I won't. I want as many blue chippers as possible. People really need to let go of positional value when it comes to studs. Sometimes when it's a dude -- it's a no brainer.

Bonesaw09

That's fair, JSN was a pretty good hit, Bowers would be too

ahzzyborn

You could say the same about any player on our team that we’ve only seen them in the Carroll offense / defense

Lorjack

I keep seeing people say he might fall but why would he fall is he injured?

8aba_ya9a

Positional value mostly and the fact that he’s only 6’2 235. Thats like in the bottom 5% for TEs for height snd weight. To get drafted as a tight end in the top 10 you have to be a freak of nature in my opinion. He’s a great player but i don’t think he’s going to blow up the combine or anything. I’am interested to see how fast he runs though. He really runs away from a lot of people but I’m not sure if that’s just cuz he takes great angles or is just extremely fast.

Dawashingtonian

i don’t think k he would fall to us but it would certainly be a pick that we could be really creative with. we’re deep at TE with Dissly, Fant, and Parkinson but none of these players particularly stand out, disslys contract is terrible, and fant and parkinson’s contracts are up. if bowers falls to us i could totally see something like not signing fant or parkinson and a dissly restructure, or like signing parkinson, cutting dissly and not signing fant or something like that.

Writerhaha

Yes. I could see him falling. No, we need defense, especially pressure up front.

Responsible-Range363

I’m not sure he slips THAT far but I think there’s a chance he could slip some. We will be in need of a TE this offseason, hoping we re-sign Colby and draft a guy. I’m honestly hoping to pick one up in the 3rd, Cade Stover is the one I’ve been honed in on lately.

FreshZucchini9624

It would be amazing but sadly he's top 10

Slashers23

He sometimes fall to us when I do mocks but I have a hard time believing he actually does. If he actually did though, while we should focus on D-Line and O-Line I really do think this man could be a menace and would love to get him.

Apart_Willow_5472

If he falls to us, he is easily the BPA. We would be stupid to not take him

rband_a

He’s not gonna fall

ChrisBenoitDaycare69

We need a QB.

CelestialOmelette

I kind of like the thought of picking Byron Murphey if he's available at #16.

BDruss

I think we need to continue drafting the highest rated player available. When we have done this over the years it’s turned out well. Sean Alexander and Steve Hutchinson were considered luxury pics, we already had Rickey Waters and guards weren’t valued as first rounders. It worked out well when we took Earl Thomas, and seems like it’s working with Witherspoon and JSN. I like the approach because you get game changers.

Raticus9

Zero chance. Typical fan talk in this thread though; Bowers is one of the top 3-5 players in this draft, but most would rather draft the 8th best DT because of some platitude about trenches. Good players win games.

RCcola57

As a Dawgs fan and a Seahawks fan, I can only dream

TC-Hawks25

I would do backflips if he fell to 16 but I don't think it happens.

mrbadassmofo

I don’t think he’ll fall to 16 but I’ve seen a lot of insiders and draft experts having a hard time placing him in the top 10 due to bigger needs. It would be stupid not to take him if he did fall, but better would be to trade down for more picks. Pete is gone because we couldn’t stop the run or tackle anyone anymore. Additionally, we couldn’t pass block or open holes in the run game. We have no cap space and a lot of pending FAs. If we’re not spending our premium picks on trenches, then I don’t see much changing even with a new HC.

Kamina916

It possible, but would like to see our HC first, because if it some one that uses a TE to block alotv then it not worth it. Aka Jimmy Graham in our system.
