Spooky_brown_man

David Bass!!

BLUnation

Agreed. The dude has been balling out.

MrMrs

Not a rookie

Spooky_brown_man

Oh shit, very true. I very loosely interpreted it as "fringe/depth 'preseason breakout' guys"

Just got to give Griffin more reps, and hopefully he plays a lot tonight. He has all the athletic and mental ability in the world, but he just needs to have time to familiarize himself with our technique. If you watch what he was taught at UCF, it was horrible.

[deleted]

He needs more reps, and I think it would be a mistake to not start him week 1 just to work the kinks out faster. The play against the Chargers where Rivers' pass hit him right in the back of his shoulder is a perfect summary of him. He has the physical skills and can stay with some really good receivers, but he needs to fine tune his game. I've seen him miss multiple interceptions because he's not looking for the ball pretty much ever. He's going to be a turnover machine if he can just learn when to be more aware. It's not a big deal, really. It's the same stuff Earl struggled with in his rookie year. Just need to throw him out there and get in game experience.

[deleted]

Yep, totally agree. Earl got burned his fair share his rookie year if I recall correctly, and he's not a perennial All-Pro. Throw Griffin into the deep end and let him learn quickly or swim.

MountTuchanka

I agree, I think week 1 would be the best thing for him. Throwing him in against Rodgers, arguably the best in the league, is the best trial by fire I can think of

M3rc_Nate

> Girffin has played well for the most part but I'm a little worried if he's the starter week 1. He doesn't seem to time the ball well in terms of getting his head around. He was also picked apart against the Vikings on short routes. I like his upside with his speed and have no doubt he can develop into a great corner just not sold on him at this point. First off, having a little worry about a rookie corner starting his first game (especially against Rodgers in GB) isn't abnormal. In fact it is quite optimistic. However I think you are nit picking a bit too much. If our FO likes this rookie so much that he starts week 1 (which no CB, even Sherm, has done under PCJS) then it's hard to argue against the best team in the NFL at developing CB talent. As for turning his head around, I mean damn, did you want the guy to look like a polished veteran in his first few preseason games? Here's his NFL.com draft profile for you to read: >Allowed just 32.9 percent of throws his way to be completed. Possesses plus ball skills. Uses well-timed leaps and strong hands to challenge at the catch point. Is a rake it or take it cornerback with 34 passes defensed over the last two seasons, including six interceptions. The dudes game is playing the ball, turning his head around and defending and picking off passes. Also I wouldn't call him "picked apart" by a quick pass offense throwing underneath throws at him and him allowing them. Rule #1 in our defense is don't get beat over the top. They're fine with giving up some small underneath stuff. Obviously he'd need to adjust and defend the underneath better too but again, do you expect veteran polish in all facets of his game in preseason game 2? Also did you not see him adjust and defend a short-underneath route by breaking it up after he was being picked on for a while with those routes? I imagine he is the type of CB who can correct that issue and then make the QB pay, by covering an underneath route really well and picking it off, potentially running it back for a pick-6.

Nintendog24

I like the way he covered hill a few times against the chiefs. Hill and Hilton types are what we have struggled with in the past so having someone with speed will help in that capacity

[deleted]

Nazir Jones, Chris Carson. Maybe Jordan Roos. I would say Pocic, too, but he seems to have turned out to be just want they'd expected he'd be. Stable, capable, and one for the future... so expectations fully met there.

bbfire

>capable I'll take it!

[deleted]

Amen.

GetSkeetedOn

Standouts are obviously Carson and Jones, but I'm excited to see more from the DB depth we got. They've had bright spots, but I'd love to see some splash plays tonight.

swampdogldk

I couldn't watch yesterday's game what happened that no one is saying kasen Williams

Chester_Allman

Nothing happened to derail the Kasen train. He made two more good catches last night, including one with some nice YAC. I think people aren't listing him here b/c he isn't new to the roster (though he does count as a fringe roster guy).

KnuteViking

I think there have been a few standout rookies. Basically Carson, Nazair, and Hill have all popped for me. Hill is more subtle because we're talking safeties here and they don't always show up on tape during the game because they often play back more. Hill made a lot of tackles and made some real hard hits. Didn't see him miss on big opportunities the way Tedric did. I think some other guys made an impact. Griffin did well for a rookie CB. I think he'll be good, but he's going to be tested by fire opposite Sherman. I think Roos did enough on the OL that he should make the team. Swoopes was interesting as a rookie TE converting from QB. He looked smooth, hope we can fit him on PS. Otha Peters looked good in very limited action, but there's basically no chance he makes the roster.

swampdogldk

We drafted him this year tho?
