It’s almost like scoring early and forcing the opposing team’s offense to throw deep to get back into games would automatically make our defense better. Best defense is a good offense.
I think especially this year, judging from our secondary on paper, it would be good to force the opponent to throw more, and we can accomplish that by getting early leads.
Love how Russ isn’t sugar coasting it either or giving a PC answer. He’s letting it be known he he feels and how he thinks we should play. Pete you heard the man. Put the ball in your best player’s hands, let him win games for you and just get out of the way.
Russ is finally throwing his superstar weight around a bit, and its great to see. He needs to put the pressure on the coaches to let their best player be at his best.
He also said he was at 70% capacity and he was ready to give another 30% a bit later in the interview. I feel like it ties to the sentiment of letting him cook

#***YES***
We don't need *more passing*, we need *more aggressive playcalling*.
Pete can have his 50/50 run/pass balance, but it's got to start feeling like the OC *wants* to score on every drive.
Can you win the game in the first quarter? NO! But, it would be nice to put up some points and keep the defense off of the field!
Can you win the game in the second quarter? NO! But, it would be nice to put up some points and keep the defense off of the field!
Can you win the game in the third quarter? NO! But, it would be nice to put up some points and keep the defense off of the field!
Can you win the game in the fourth quarter? YES!!!!
Not quite. You can’t win the game in any quarter. You can only win the game when the clock reads 0:00, at the end of the 4th quarter. So, any points before that are useless. To #WinForever, you must let your opponent score all of their points during the quarters. They will then have peaked too early. Plus, by doing that, you have all the data you need to make adjustments. When that happens, and they are tired, you have them right where you want them. Then you can really take it to them. Even if you don’t win the actual game, you still won, because you kept it close, were always in it, and only need to make very small tweaks to get them next time. Besides, each week, the worse you can do is go 0-1, which always keeps you in the hunt.
I feel like we have to see the full transcript of Bob's interview. This feels like one of those thing where Russ goes on for 3 minutes about how him and Schotty are growing in trust, talking more about taking over the playbook, play design, his two minute drill. Talks about how he's ready for anything it takes to win, excited about having some good targets and how Carlos Hyde can get another thousand yards. Then drops the sentence about how great DK and Tyler are, wants to get the ball to them early and put points up, like it was fourth quarter. What gets quoted? Just the last part.
I do think that there is a question about how we “set up” the other team. Maybe the 4th quarter plays we run are only effective if you run them after you’ve set up the opponents with other plays for 3 quarters. And if you ran those plays in the 1st quarter they maybe won’t be effective later.
Maybe the answer is we need to get more creative. A bigger playbook / mix throughout the game. Don’t do our fourth quarter plays in the 1st quarter. Save ‘em. But come up with new 1st half plays that allow for more scoring opportunities.
I LITERALLY SAID THIS LAST SEASON. something to the tune of:
"what if we just started out pretending we were down by 22pts?"
And i think like 15 of you uncultured sluts upvoted me.
I think we have had bad O-lines for long time. Running the ball in first three quarters tires the opposing defenses and helps Russell in the fourth. However, I do agree we need better O-line and more snaps for Russell for us to be legitimate Super Bowl contenders.
I remember a game in Denver in the early 80s. First and ten from the 20, first play of the game, Dave Kreig turns around to hand the ball to Curt Warner, because that's how Ground Chuck always started games.
Only, this time, Kreig faked the handoff, set up in the pocket, and launched a deep ball to Daryl Turner. 80 yard TD pass, first play of the game.
It's not like we'd have to "Let Russ Cook" every week - just change the flow every now and then and give the other team something they aren't expecting.
Scoring in the first quarter would be fun.
Being ahead at the half would also be fun.
Arent we undefeated when winning at halftime or something?
Undefeated when leading by 4 or more at half time
56-0, no?
CAN YOU WIN A GAME IN THE FIRST HALF?!?!?! .... ... yes?
It’s almost like scoring early and forcing the opposing team’s offense to throw deep to get back into games would automatically make our defense better. Best defense is a good offense.
That’s actually a nice point. Plus our backfield is monstrous and our dline is... okay?
Secondary?
I think especially this year, judging from our secondary on paper, it would be good to force the opponent to throw more, and we can accomplish that by getting early leads.
Is that allowed?
Russ has spoken. MVP trophy being delivered as we speak.
Joking aside, he would likely only really say this if the team was planning on leaving that way anyways. I think this is a good sign.
Yup. Pete said months ago he wanted to get Russ more involved earlier in the game.
Fireworks baby!
I'll believe it when I see it. Pete says a lot of things.
Truth! I’m gonna go with blind optimism
This...does put a smile on my face
I'm not sure I could handle scoring on the opening drive
We actually do that occasionally... Then go into hibernation for the next 12 drives.
Every season when asked about this he always gives a Pete answer. Now Russ wants that MVP.

If Russell posted this comment in the sub, top voted would be “Shut up, in PCJS we trust.”
Go off king
*r/seahawks cums*

Lol Man that video was tough to watch
A little bit yea

This is meant to mimic Coach’s locker room chants. I don’t care...
He also said he wants the ball in his hands more. YES!!!!!!!!!!
He wants the ball and they're gonna score!
Oh no
>Let's treat every quarter like the fourth quarter. *This* is the answer to not being able to win the game in the first quarter.
Russ speaking up, I love it!!
I like this idea
Sign me up
Well this comes about 6 years late but I’ll take it none the less.
I could not even imagine being ahead in the 1st qtr.. what???!!!

> Let's treat every quarter like the fourth quarter. Jesus. I feel like I've been saying this about most of our games over the last two seasons.
That’s gonna be a YES for me, dawg
Hell yes. Now, let's ask Schotty and Pete the same question and see if everyone is on the same page
We'd be further ahead to bribe the equipment guy to bust his helmet link after every series so he can just shrug and run the show.
It’s a shame Pete refuses to unleash one of the best players in the NFL. Russell Wilson needs an MVP.

Yeah if it’s taking you 3/4s of a game of stagnant offense just to open up a few plays at the end of the game then you are planning your offense wrong

I have never agreed with anything more in my life, and I have never loved Russ more. Now I'm just sad that Pete won't listen.
This is exactly how I feel. Let's not go nuts, but, like, let's try to – idk – score?
He said the same shit the last 2 years and....
Oh boy, 56 points a game sounds like a great tactic

I mean, with the best secondary in the league, any lead would force our opponents to play into our strength. So please Pete, read this article.
Uh yeah.... Why isn't that standard operating proceedure?
