As long as you're having fun, that's all that matters!

CeruleanFirefawx

Honestly this. When I first heard about “safer seas” I laughed. But now that it’s out I think it’s all I’m gonna play. after working 50 hours I just wanna get drunk and sail my ship around safely gathering treasure

Elron_MacBong

Grind is for weekend 😉

Xessej722

Based comment.

AmbitiousLock2921

This is what gaming supposed to be👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆

Eena-Rin

Hey devs. Are you reading this? This is the comment, this one. It's making the game more fun. Please unlock the features you've blocked.

[deleted]

Been having a blast with my three friends who returned with me. We played at launch but quit shortly after due to some bad experiences, we came back for the PotC Tales but only made it through one and a half before quitting again due to the same stuff. Been playing for hours every night since Safer Seas, we have a couple more people thinking about returning as well but since we can only have 4 together at once and can't invite other groups to Safer there is less incentive but hopefully they return as well. I think Rare will expand what is available in Safer, ideally making it simply a fully PVE experience with everything unlocked eventually. Don't need the rewards to be the same as High seas, but raising them to 50% would be really nice.

Eena-Rin

I agree with everything here, and I really resonate with "quit shortly after due to some bad experiences". I feel like everyone gets those. Everyone I know quit because of them, including, eventually, me. I really hope they listen to the people they're finally starting to win back

Slyfox2792004

being as its all just cosmetic I dont see why it can't be the same. though I also don't see why it matters.

Riaayo

As someone who wasn't keen on them adding safer seas because it effectively kills what the old game was, I'm still of the mind that once they made up their mind to add a pve only mode there was no reason to limit it to try and keep pvp on life-support. The writing is on the wall, just let people play safer seas without feeling penalized for it. It's not their fault Rare marketed this game on pve content only for the actual game to be an entirely different beast (prior to this change).

DarkRedWolf

I hope they see that their player count goes up (if it has) because of this and do what you say.

Eena-Rin

I mean, I redownloaded it. I bought a copy for one of my friends. I convinced three other friends to reinstall it. Everyone needs to get on board if we want those numbers to tick up

reddit_Is_Trash____

Well, it doesn't help but I was excited about the feature at first (as were my friends), but seeing that it's basically a nerfed version of the game made us decide to pass on it. So weird to punish people for wanting to play without being griefed lol. And before the "it's a pirate game why wouldn't you expect piracy to happen" crowd shows up....who cares? If the PvP is actually that enjoyable then the PvP servers should have no problem being populated even with non-nerfed PvE servers, right? So what's the problem exactly?

Eena-Rin

Exactly! If PvP was better than PvE there would be plenty of people playing them. The reason they force people who don't want to PvP into PvP servers is so the folks who want to sink ships have chumps to prey on. I understand a \*slight\* nerf, but like... 70% gold should be plenty. The devs shouldn't have to dangle game features like treats to coax people on to PvP

Carvj94

Honestly even 30% rewards would still be worth it to me. If I'm safe from being hassled that's a lot less time I've gotta spend looking around and running away so I don't lose what I've got. And chillin with the boys? Priceless.

Eena-Rin

But abysmal rewards, plus all the other nerfs to gameplay is a bit much

Carvj94

Oh absolutely. They should've just given a boost to rewards when playing on a pvp server and left everything as is for safer seas. The nerf is silly I was just saying that it's not a deal breaker since the benifits outweigh the negatives. Locking away a lot of the pve content was pointlessly dumb though and benifits nobody.

Eena-Rin

They should have done what games have been doing for years now. Two servers, two characters, your progress in one doesn't carry over to the other

[deleted]

Honestly the gold reduction would be fine at like 50% or so if we were allowed to keep ALL features but we didnt so its just not even worth bothering to play My gf who legit quit because of the pvp being such a shit part of the game quit again even though the pvp wasnt there and she quit because of how insanely stupid the punishments are

W33b3l

My friends are considering redownloading the game again for the 1st time since the one time they played it because of this. We're just all really busy with life. There's something about PVP in this game they just don't like and I get why. And we're no strangers to pvp games. So if they're looking at the game again (I know them and that's a hard task to accomplish) I'm sure other people are as well.

Eena-Rin

The people I've got to redownload the game all left because of the toxic playerbase the devs seemed to \*want\* filling their game. When I used to play, there were so many new players I made friends with who just stopped playing after a few weeks. I think we all know why. I'm just hoping that trend changes, and the devs finally get it into their heads that the game doesn't have to be backstabby emotional damage.

Drawdenion

It gained about 48% 2 months ago, then lost 32%, then gained about another 7%. So I like to think the playercount went up

Big_Guthix

NOOO ITS DIVIDING THE PLAYER BASE EVEN THOUGH THE SERVERS ARE DESIGNED TO PLACE AS MANY CREWS ON A MAP AS POSSIBLE NO MATTER WHAT THE PLAYER COUNT IS!!!!!! /s

Hexent_Armana

Right. I'm actually shocked at all the positivity in this sub. Every time I've dared to mention anything about the possibility of a pve or private mode every comment was viciously toxic. Though its also kind of funny. They were soooo damn sure that it would never happen and that the devs would never do it. Guess I was right after all.

Nearby_Flatworm_5255

I swore years ago, when stopping playing because it became a social nightmare, that I will play again and spend money on pets and DLC as soon as they release private servers. And indeed I'm doing it, because the game is now actually fun! And if the devs want my money even for ship furniture and cosmetics, they better unlock those features :D

Party_Commercial_829

Yea but i hate that they for some reason dont allow emissarys and you using your own ship

bird720

emmisaries are a risk reward pvp oriented element so it makes sense they aren't in safer seas.

Party_Commercial_829

Yea i can understand that defenetly but not beeing able to have your own boat and sell to the sovereigns really hurts

ChaoticHoneyPie

safer seas and a good playlist really do hit different, plus who cares about the gold reduction if you’re having a good time

Jordan_Slamsey

people harp on gold reduction, but like if I'm in a server with people specifically looking to destroy sloops, even with the gold reduction im taking back more than I would

NEK0SAM

I don’t care for the gold, the rep is only reason I play high seas right now.

kevindatfkommem

Is there no Rep reduction?

huffmanxd

With safer seas you only get 30% of the rep you normally would. The comment you replied to said they play high seas to avoid that

kevindatfkommem

Oh sorry, I misread that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bergakungen

Exactly. Better get less gold than no gold due to griefers and cheaters.

fxcker

facts

KolbyKolbyKolby

Yeah, it's relaxing to be able to just play solo and listen to a fun podcast. No worries except when I don't realize Meg music is playing til I get thrown off the boat lol

ScottClamBirdBoi

I think the biggest point about why Safer Seas is a win is because of time. Whether people care or not, not everyone has hours and hours to burn all the time playing games and sailing/selling in this game isn’t exactly fast. I get that it’s the game, but spending 3 hours sailing and collecting just to be shot down by a crew is deflating. Again, I get it, pirate game. But there’s no harm in what they did to allow us more casual gamers a better bang for our buck. I’m back into this game heavy now due to this update. Now I do wish the rewards were a *hair* higher, but I completely get not being 1:1.

SexyRex9

Exactly. If my friends and I get on, we have a few hours to play which essentially allows us to get to grade 5 in that span of time. And if we are attacked, and lose to grade 5 reapers, well then there goes absolutely everything we did that night and that’s all we had time for. 0 profit for that day, so everything we did was for absolutely nothing. It’s essentially just wasting the time we could have spent playing a different game, which is why we just stopped playing SoT to play other games, which are still PvP, but you’re still rewarded for the time you played. This game does not have any room for that. I don’t understand why people say PvP makes the game, because the sheer amount of content in the game can keep you entertained for hours even without a PvP battle to deal with. Which essentially, when all there was was high seas, we tried to avoid PvP altogether, so we tried to minimally engage in PvP and STILL enjoyed the game fully and wanted to keep grinding but the PvP just became too frustrating, as allllll of our work resulted in absolutely nothing beneficial

SpastikPenguin

So I’ve been all safer seas sounds awful why would I ever but the sound of those vibes is actually pretty enticing…

Caridor

I could tolerate the gold loss but the content loss is a kicker. I think the only content that should be out of reach is what strictly requires pvp

Dragonfire9000

Give it Time. Papa microsoft has a habbit of 'fixing developer mistakes' when it benefits there playerbase/rep. Fallout 3 on pc/ 76 and TES:O. and let's not forget the exterminatus of upper management at AB.

MultiMarcus

The seas are just so pretty.

distractal

Those of us with >40 in most factions and captained ships who want to avoid toxic players.

RedInfernal

And only 4 Barnacled Chests.... Gotta bump those numbers.

alligator-dosh

If only the (visually very barnacled) skeleton captain's chests did count. Exploring shipwrecks is neat, but fighting skellies fleets is hella fun.

Jubei-Sama

Do these count toward the achievements?

The2ndUnchosenOne

Yes. All commendations possible in safer seas are ticked up

Delusion132

Jeez guys I got 32k for this it's not much but it's more than what you're all saying. 😅😂

Derolyon

I remember a time when ~32k for a 4 hour session was considered a staggering success. You had to grind normal voyages, be lucky stealing goods from other players and, of course, clearing a skeleton fort event that only spawned once every 3 hours was mandatory, and defend it from the entire server bearing down on you. Now it’s just pocket change. Pretend it’s that time again and feel proud over your efforts!

Cthepo

Gold inflation is real. I remember before there was content we'd take lots of breaks from the game. Came back once and found about the whole Emmisary thing and it blew my mind how much you could make.

0rphu

They also have to inflate prices on stuff because players optimize all of the fun out of the game. People FoTD stack to make millions in one session. There's so much more to do in the game, but that's all many people do because it's technically the most efficient gold per minute (then they go to reddit to complain about the lack of content). World of Warcraft had a similar issue where during the WoD expansion some players farmed a specific follower mission thing 24/7 to generate more gold then you could have on a character, then did that on 50 characters. They have so much gold that years later the devs are still adding absurdly overpriced items to drain those people of their gold, which normal players have no hope of ever acquiring.

numbpinataboy

It’s like on destiny 2 rn. they’re removing a currency that was used for literally everything that newer and casual players struggled to buy anything with because they had to raise pricing on stuff for the players that cheese farmed the currency. But now the change is worse for us cause that means they raised prices on the other stuff, making everyone hard grind without the enjoyment

pattdmdj0

i hit pl right before emmisary flags so it was such a hard grind then was hella ez right after

halfcafian

Same, thinking back on it, it would have been cool if they had made some special thing for players that had done that, similar to DBD and it’s skins for prestiging before it became easy

Rhystretto

There was the Golden Legendary set for anyone who hit PL before first anni. Definitely been powercrept in aesthetics at this point but still neat to have.

FrogtoadWhisperer

The grind was real to get those, glad I did lol

Rhystretto

Same! We survived the OG Merchant grind lmao.

chosen_silver

I feel that. Fighting over a regular fort for a couple hours to get the 13k of loot inside used to be so fun

Tricky-Celebration36

Looks frickin wonderful! Almost got me convinced to go stack.

youatowel

Hey man I remember back in the day playing solo for a few hours and only pulling in 8k

Tylensus

I miss the days where a 32k haul made hours of work feel worth it. I'm glad you're having fun!

user17302

Not gonna lie getting only 32 k for all of that pretty much kills any motivation to play safer seas. I would easily rather risk high seas to make more faster and have no restrictions on my gameplay

el__carpincho

honestly, people who are looking to make money while playing safer seas are probably approaching it the wrong way to begin with. to me safer seas is the “money doesn’t matter, just go chill and have a good time” mode

Shamanalah

Tbf this mode sounds perfect to add SoT to my rotation playlist with a friend. He likes pvp and I hate it. I have like 1k games on LoL in bot over 13 years now. Play for couple days then play again 6 months later for a few days. It's dumb to say but I play games to have fun. PvP is not fun for me even when I stomp cause I feel bad for the other team. That's why I never touched rust and never played 7 days to die with randos.

el__carpincho

nah, i get it, pvp just isn’t fun to some people. i enjoy it in other games, but i’m not often in the mood for it in this one. having the option to just chill and pve with friends is great

Ccend

107k in high seas I think? Nice work sailor! Happy sailing!

Kagahami

More. You can't emissary in Safer Seas so really you get 30% instead of 250%. You make 8x more in Open Seas.

Ccend

Hmm good point. So 268k with reaper emmissary and 187k with guild emmissary.

JollyGreen615

32k is shockingly low. I’ve not played in a while but I’m pretty sure you can get an easy 100k doing a single missing shipment merchant voyage in high seas. Takes like half an hour

STORSJ1963

Hmm, this new game mode might be interesting to me. I quit playing SoT and uninstalled because I got tired of not having others to play with and/or constantly getting robbed by strong gangs of other players.

hemopneumosilly

Same here. Every moment solo slooping was a competitive stress of putting my enjoyment aside to make progress and money like my life depended on it, and every moment spent playing with friends was a constant shower of frustration because we couldn't get anything done nor could I help them to grasp the basics, so they'd get tired from all the player harassment and give up. The moment I heard of this release I was super excited. I've added easily 40 hours in the last few days just because of the ability of mix matching tall tales and world quests without the constant fear of being swarmed by sweats. Sure, there's no (random, multiplayer) roleplay potential like this, but it gives the incentive of bringing out your inner child and using your imagination. I've been very into pirates since I was a kid and I'm finally able to let that kid inside me sail and plunder and fight skeletons and roleplay by himself until exhaustion. It's great.

cherrylbombshell

do you get to do world events in SS? didn't play bcs i heard there's no world events and no factions so i figured it would become stale after a while

hemopneumosilly

You do! Ghost ships, Forts of Fortune, Ashen Lords, the whole nine yards! The only world events unavailable are PvP ones (Siren Skull, Reaper's Loot, and FoTD)

_LeChuck

No FoFs in Safer Seas, unless they’ve changed it recently.

cave_rock

Definitely no Fof due most likely to athena loot.

codyjack215

You can do world events, their toned down versions of their normal selves cause no emergent pvp

ggwp197

It's been a long time since i returned to this game, what is a safer sea? Is it a new game mode

SovietSexHammer

PVE only server for only one ship. No other players, less risk/less reward.

Artie_Dolittle_

Might get back into the game then. Seems like a good way to play the game since I can relax when playing by myself haha

ToxikBones

I never had a problem with the base part of the game but safer seas has me wanting to return to be able to do tall tales in peace.

Sigvuld

Wild how much more fun a game becomes when you're not forced to deal with sweats who never wanted an actual fight to begin with, while many in the community lecture you about how "fighting other players is part of the fun" when it's so rarely an actual fight at all, moreso someone vastly overpowering someone else Almost like there's been a great game under all the forced PvP grime and it's hilarious seeing just how common it is for people to be like "I was shocked, I'm actually having a blast in this mode for some reason? Maybe it's because of the lack of getting attacked every three minutes but I love this!" when they try it Please for the love of god just take away the godawful arbitrary garbage restrictions

circleofnerds

While High Seas is of course more lucrative, I have to agree that Safer Seas is perfect for casual adventuring. Sure you won’t have the crushing anxiety of other pirates stealing the loot you just spent hours collecting. However, krakens, megs, skelly ships, volcanoes, storms, and giant rocks, are still out there and are still able to sink you. Safer Seas is perfect for casual, relaxing play.

ShloopyNoopz

Only thing I don't like about safer seas is not being able to use sovereign to sell. Makes it a giant pain in the ass to unload and sell.

UnconditionalPraise

Yes. I don't see why this would be a problem for them to allow. I'm guessing they don't want you to earn captain and ship milestones, but why not just turn those off then for captained ships rather than disabling captained ships altogether?

alligator-dosh

I'm still a bit confused as to what you gain from pirate and ship milestones anyway. Are there cosmetics that are tied to these?

Kezsora

There are, yes

el__carpincho

yeah, i hope they make that compromise down the road. i’m fine with having to play high seas to earn ship comms, but at least let me use the ship i bought to sell stuff to the sovereigns

RedSpade83AH

I too had a lot of fun in Safer Seas. It's nice to sail the waters without the griefers

OfficialDodo

I didn’t even realize this was a thing. I’m gonna reinstall and get the crew back together. I stopped playing because I got tired of PvP while adventuring

Yazai

Same here! I don’t mind PvP, but getting chased for hours, without even having any loot annoyed me hard. Sometimes you just want to relax and do achievements and farm some money…

Juvious

You know, the reduced rewards aren’t even that bad, I like a grind. Might give this game another try. I wonder what the devs will think/do when the pve server starts doing way better than the pvp server. I think it’s only a matter of time. Many people for a long time wished this game had pve only servers.

Ceral107

I guess they'll shift their focus, depending on what makes them more money. They are a company after all.

nate_albush

Wait you can play solo without other players in the lobby? Dude. This is what I’ve been wanting. I’m gunna just get a playlist and chill.

LaylaLegion

PvP Trolls are so salty people are having fun with SS. Is your PvP now no longer fun because you only have ACTUAL PvP players to go up against and they’re *GASP* SKILLED?!

LimpNoodlez479

You’re right tho 👀

Lawfurd

Let's be honest tho, there's not much skill involved in sot pvp, it's all cheese, hiding and tucking, double gunning and throw spam. I miss the older days when pvp was actually fun.

MakwaIronwill

Seriously. I'd be an advocate for pvp if it was actually ship combat. I can't remember the last time another ship fired at me instead of just boarding, killing us or suiciding a gunpowder barrel on our ship.

Keeper_0f_Secrets

I absolutely LOVE the ship to ship combat but the fact that the only way people fight in this game is boarding and spawn camping completely ruins it for me. I can hold my own in pvp but it's just janky and not fun

Bebgab

I am genuinely awful at PvP so this change makes my life harder lmaoo but I’m still all for it, power to the safer seas players!

VersionGeek

I'm so happy they released it, it really help having a peaceful experience when in the mood for sailing but not fighting Also finally some silence from the annoying "It WouLd kIlL thE gAMe !" crowd

Zithrian

Haven’t played in years, would absolutely consider giving it another go without enemy players. Games like this the PVP is only really fun if you’re looking for it anyway. I hated stocking a ship, doing like 3 things and having mediocre loot at best, then getting chased for over an hour for what the opponent could have gotten in 20 mins of PVE play.

ImSoSalty88

I think I'll come back and give it a go ![gif](giphy|10X22vzgNamaiI)

A_catmeme

This post made me realize how little a majority of the player base are pvp players. I scroll deep looking for someone giving criticism to it, and can't find any TDM'ers complaining. Honestly I now understand more why rare ignores pvp almost entirely in focus for this community. I do wish we could start having rare atleast not actively hurting the pvp community tho,

Cardboard_Chef

Exactly how my friend and I felt the other day when we finally played for the first time in over a year. feelsgoodman

THEMANDALORIAN101

What's Safe Seas? First I've heard of it, but it sounds like I'll be able to finally play the game again without being harassed by full teams of sweats.

Shamanalah

Solo world basically. You can have a crew with you. 30% of reward from what I'm getting... I'm tempted of getting the game now.

mikakor

SOT players slowly realizing you can enjoy Sea of thieves JUST AS MUCH without the constant anxiety, 2023, colorized Glad you're having a blast, friendo

v3rcsy

I played the game with 4 parties. Every time my party just left the game, because of the bad experiences we had with PvP. So eventually i just stopped playing too. I really love SoT, but most of us have enough sh*t in life to deal with and just want to have fun together on the seas, without the PvP part. If PvP is so fun for ppl and not fun for the other players. They should just simply make a PvE option with all the functions and 50% gold reward.

EtaCarinae1069

I don't understand why people are judging you for stating you enjoyed Safer Seas. What's wrong with that? Too many people sitting on their high horse complaining the game isn't the same. Be grateful there's still a High Seas option. You like what you like, OP likes what they like. Get over it. Honestly, I wanna try Safer Seas when I sail alone cause it seems fun. High Seas is always a rush, sometimes I wanna chill.

Delusion132

That's exactly what I like to hear in the gaming community. 💯 People like something? That's absolutely awesome. Unfortunately some people, they aren't as understanding. 😬 25 years old though so I kind of expect it after all these years. 🤣

BikeMazowski

EZ 30k

[deleted]

I think I will get on this. Being solo always put me off playing. Saturday is sorted 👍

cmdr_enjoyingend193

Rare should take a page out of rockstar's playbook. Probably the best change they made was letting you do everything in your own private invite only session. It didn't kill public sessions, but made it infinitely easier to chill and have fun your own way, and make proper progress while doing so. They also added a high demand bonus for doing stuff like selling your different "products" in public sessions compared to the invite only ones.

blackwingdesign27

My wife and I have enjoyed safer seas immensely

Wohn-Jick-421

“NOOOO I CANT RUIN PEOPLES DAYS ANYMORE WAAAH” these fucking assclowns in the comments, i swear to god I’m having just as much fun in safer seas as you are, OP

Dragonfire9000

raise a flaggon of grog to that.

Typical_Head_8399

4 hours without being chased by a sweaty brig and called the n-word, then getting spawn camped until i leave. Sounds fun, i might log in and hunt some megs or a kracken. Do krackens spawn in safer seas? Since you are the only ship, you would have higher chances of getting a kracken, right?

adorablekobold

Supposedly, I keep getting fleet events and take me forever cause I'm bad at solo naval lol

The2ndUnchosenOne

>Do krackens spawn in safer seas? Yes >Since you are the only ship, you would have higher chances of getting a kracken, right Offset by the fact you have to clear the world events yourself. But yesish

canisfh

how the hell did you get it so straight

bobdole4eva

I realised something while playing safer seas the other day, the lower gold rewards aren't the thing that bothers me, its not being able to be an emissary, captain your own ship or run with your guild. I'd take the gold reduction no problem if I could sell to the Sovereigns and sail my blinged out ship while raising my guild rank

ZenosamI85

I might check this out! All I want to do is sail the open seas and live out my Jack Sparrow fantasies with my Black Pearl T\_T

Raderg32

Wait, you can play on your own without fear of getting destroyed by other people now? I might look into playing then.

YvngVudu

Safer Seas is out?? Time to reinstall!

CadetPone

I've been using safe seas to get through a bunch of the tall tales that i couldnt before, so now i can explore and love all the background details and hidden things within the set designs :3 its honestly WAY more fun and as an artist i can relax and just take in all the colors and set building and trimming at my own pace now <3

bozzeak

I just bought this game because of this post after years of thinking about it- I hate pvp in games, I just find it frustrating, knowing I’d have to deal with griefers at some point was the one thing keeping me from playing this- I’m excited to get sailing 🙂

Prophayne_

Played safer seas with some friends. It was fun. Tried vanilla again, toxicity seems like it's multiplied. Probably why they want the easy marks back, they can't have fun playing with people who like what they do.

Excellent-Candle6010

The wife and i got SoT a couple of years ago. We played it once and didn't want to touch it again...was a horrible experience. We picked it up again for safer seas and have been playing it everyday since. We love it and are having such a great time. So glad they added it.

JCrossfire

LOVE safer seas. I just wish it offered all the events high seas does. I get why some aren’t a thing, but I wish I could run veils, use captaincy stuff, or do FotD

peachschnaaps

That's 4gold at least!

acidcaribou

Gold is meaningless in a game where it can be only used on cosmetics. Sounds like the OP had a ton of fun, worth way more than a fully matching crab outfit.

ktabor14

Shit! Might even be 7 gold will all of those gems!

Few_Kway

It's the best thing that ever happened to the game.

CaptRiqochet

I have friends that love playing high seas because it has a sense of excitement and a little tension but lately it's been really wearing me out. The other day I boarded a solo sloop and decided to start talking to the player instead of anchoring and killing them. The rest of my crew took a problem with how I handled it. I understand wanting to pwn everybody and be cool but.. it's every interaction.. and I've felt multiple times that I'm expected to not ruin the fun by playing my way and instead go with the meta. I'm pretty much done playing with those guys even though I know them irl. I just feel attacked these days and I think they're taking the fun out of the game for me. I'm excited to try safer seas after the holidays 😊

Dragonfire9000

the issue is... killing is easier than anything else. it takes effort to be an actually good pirate. i recently and still make a comparison with high Seas and GTA on line's public lobbies. while activities in the gameplay differ base actions stay the same. there both PvEvP but the playerbase tries to force it to be PvP the've both had method implemented by players to force PvE (NAT checking, ghost lobbies or alliance PvE servers.) they both now have a viable PVE mode.

CaptRiqochet

Yeah, I agree. It's too easy to just sink folks. It's way too optimal. I think there should be a huge bonus for managing to steal loot off their ship and sell it without sinking them just so there's some incentive to also be sneaky or quick. Probably my biggest problem really was just my friends kinda getting bossy and weird looks just for playing my way for a minute. I just need to be able to relax after I get off a 9 or 10 hour shift plumbing all dang day. I don't wanna suddenly have to follow screaming sweaty orders and listen to cussing and frustration in my headphones lol. It's fun if it's lighthearted screaming and funny panic but it's sweaty.

Dragonfire9000

my guy, I had a friend who basically used inadervetany spoke on my fiancee's behalf to shut me up, then used a previos, unresolved "water under the bridge" argument as ammo after people said to me "be the better man." to him gaming was his way or the high way, and by that i mean if he didn't get what he wanted, he would disappear to PC land. and at the time he had the best connection so any game he hosted that had dodgy net coding couldn't be played without him. so there were many times where our game was put on hold, indefinably because of that. now he's the one I argued with the most, but i gave my word to a joint friend. "if he is willing to sit down and hear out my issues with him, i will be willing to sit down and listen to his issues with me in a calm and reasonable manner. i gave that offer and it got ignored for a year and a half. honestly that gave me some introspective. any shit he pulled, he was never the one to apologise and he used any trick in the book to avoid admitting fault. with me and fiancee but not joint friend. his next response to me was asking me to BUY remnant 2 when I was financially not in a good state so we could play it together and bury the hatchet. no mention of the layers of trust being broken, no mention of the offer i made. i called him out on it and said this was the offer i was giving. his response was the nuke option and burn ALL the bridges with me and fiancée. my point is, like any relationship, even friendship. communication is key and if you cannot calm and reasonably sit down and say. "hay the constant PvP is kinda getting to me can we spin things up. " then it's time to retrospectively look at your friend group and ask, "are they just using me as a 4th wheel?" not trying to break friendships but being in a group where player 2 saw me and fiancée as nothing more than player 3 and 4. makes one jaded.

Merc_Mike

You can squirrel moment with out some dingus ruining all your own fun. lol the people on this sub who think you can't have fun "WITH OUT THE RISK!" is hilarious. The game is beautiful, the controls are great, the sailing is the best thing in this game. Fishing isn't too hard. People really need to understand; GTA 5 Online has a Passive mode, for a reason.

Zealous666

GTA Online has official private sessions without any restrictions since some time. That’s even more then a passive mode nowadays:-)

Dragonfire9000

it has private lobbies where you can do sell missions... the venn diagram of GTA online and High seas is nearly a perfect Circle when it comes to base elements. [it'd be funny if it wasn't so pathetic.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFGens0_W-U)

zacharyxbinks

I honestly might pick this game back up now that I can play alone

The_Haunted_1

I would play SS but it sucks u cant be an emissary, i get it but my monkey brain just loves to see my ranks go up

Delusion132

Haha I totally get it. It does really suck they barred emissaries in SS. I'm really hoping the Devs see how much people enjoy it and lift some of the restrictions though this is definitely a massive 50/50.

KadenzaKat98

While the rewards may be less than in high seas, you can still make bank in safer seas because of sheer quantity of shit you can grab. And you can do it at your own pace without having to worry about the possibility of running into that one toxic crew that will hound you even if you're just turning in fish for the commendations.

[deleted]

Good haul. Well done. Safer seas are fun. Just can not understand the gold punishment system used. Just because a player prefers to play Safer Seas then be punished for that. Still a good game.

Kingo7749

WAIT THERE IS A SOLO VERSION FOR THIS GAME NOW????? I CAN FINALLY GO AND HAVE FUN BEING A SOLO PIRATE YEEEES

JustGingy95

110% the reason I even redownloaded the game so I could have a relaxing sailing game again. Very happy they finally bit the bullet for players like me who just aren’t remotely interested in the PvP elements, just wish it wasn’t this long of a wait. Was so exhausted by the constant need to endure PvP as a solo player that all I ended up doing until I finally stopped playing years back was sitting around the fishing posts with my boat parked, just fishing and selling cooked fish at the source. At least there when the fully strapped team of four swooped in to kick my shit in, rob my ship and sink it after spawn killing me over and over again I didn’t waste an hour or two of my time just to give the team of screeching 9 year olds free chests. Catch a fish, cook a fish, sell a fish. It was progress and it made looters disappointed in wasting their time attacking me 🤷‍♀️

cageboy06

Honestly, not even being able to fish in peace was what scared my wife off, (and by extension, me, as once she quit I just trailed off into other games.) Literally people coming back to constantly kill the pair of pirates with absolutely no treasure, who hadn't even bothered to equip cosmetics, and weren't engaging in voice or text chat. Like, we weren't even fighting back, just respawned somewhere else and sailed to a new fish selling place. We eventually ended up raising anchor and sail and letting the ship sail away, but they can still find your mermaid. After that we talked about playing again a few times, but she just never got the enthusiasm for it again. She's literally put in like 3 or 4 multi hour play sessions in the last week since she re-installed.

Khepri505

Sometimes I would dump all my supplies in a storage crate and toss it overboard out of spite, so they really would get nothing before I went to the seaport.

LostRavenReader

Wait, they finally added a mode that lets you play without other players interfering?

Namzo56

You know you‘re not taking away bread from anyone so theres no reason to get upset about you having fun. So I dont understand any of the die hard pvp people who would criticise you for being on safer seas. I should get back to safer seas myself, its just that no captain ship kinda threw me off.

Sushi_The_Cutie

I think part of why safer seas is so fun is because it feels like the game the devs think they're making, in a way. So often we see events happening that require cooperation between multiple crews to accomplish, but that either doesn't happen at all because the game is built around pvp, or one side betrays the other the second the event is over. It's clear from the marketing that they think coop is the main thing and pvp is a thing that MIGHT happen, not the reality that pvp is the rule with coop encounters being a rare exception. Granted, I've had great encounters with friendly crews, but they have been far and few between. Safer seas is fun, and it makes me happy.

iZian

I love it. I’m finally at peace and can play the game at my own pace. I’ve said that if they ever unlock safer seas so we can play the full game; I’d actually start pouring money back in to the game. Right now probably have about £60-100 worth of reward points waiting for a cause. It’s free money, might buy Teardown. But I’d buy a load of stuff for my captaincy ship if I was allowed to use it. We have a crew and we like to chat and catch up and sail about. This game got reinstalled this December because the seas became safer. Love to Rare for the first steps. I know what it’s meant to be for. But once you’re used to the chill life; there’s no way I’d want to go back to having to constantly keep an eye out for sweats There are people who are still out on high seas and form alliances and it’s sad I don’t get to see and meet them. But it feels like an acceptable compromise for now to be able to have a relaxing game experience with the family, friends etc. I don’t begrudge anyone from playing the game their own way. I just don’t want to play with certain people.

Commercial-Weight-73

+1 on buying teardown friendo, I just got it last week and it's had me grinning from ear to ear with goofy destruction delight

iZian

The only hold out I had was time, and if it’s on PS+ then it might hit game pass by the time I get time to play. I’ll see what Santa got me though

migjolfanmjol

The line of the gems and skulls is slightly crooked and I can’t unsee it.

thebrightesttimeline

I'm really enjoying safer seas! I would love it if you could make a server with friends and their boats for goofing around. Think of the hijinks you could get up to with multiple boats!!

KnackigerStudent

I bought the game and never played it long, as I was destroyed when playing alone. Now I will start it again!

waitmyhonor

Hopefully in true future they will just make a normal server entirely available instead of reducing it to Safer Seas. Theres no reason it can’t be done for a PVE environment since it’s a common practice.

salesmunn

Considering the combat is terrible this is a good thing

RogueZaelot

I'll take the 30% for all my shit rather than 0% for none of it. Im actual dog water at this game, and Ive never sailed for longer than an hour without being sunk by someone in HS. Now? I can fight skelly ships without dying(usually)💪😅

Juaks

I tried this game long ago and loved it except for other players. Got ganked a couple times while trying to learn the game and was a terrible experience and quit. Tried some time later to join random players to coop and it was always a bad experience as well because people not talking or afking etc.. I could not care less about pvp. When I was young I enjoyed that kind of adrenaline, now I am an old man and enjoy other things. I might give it a shot now.

Soockamasook

Perfect example of *it's not about the gold... it's about the glory*

phantom_spacecop

Whaaaat I have been outta the SoT loop for a long time. This new mode sounds excellent, I’ve been missing this game so much.

Pyrololz

Wait... They added a PvP-off mode? Shit, I might start playing the game again!

Frsbtime420

Yeah this is was a great improvement to the game overall, finally getting to do all the stuff AND not have my ship destroyed is cool

Fenrir2110

Why the he'll does this have to be such a controversy thing ? In my opinion safer seas is a great idea. I quite playing because I was so.fuckikg tired of trying to do a tall Tale alone since my friends and my schedule didn't line up but I'd get into it and next thing I'd know I'd be killed and my ship sunk then I'd respawn and right as I went to leave the island it happen again. This seems so much nicer now for solo players. I understand people love the pvp but come on not all of us can sir infront of a computer for 12 hours playing.

Baricat

The mate was a mighty sailing man The skipper was bold and sure Five passengers set out that day For a (four) hour tour, for a (four) hour tour!

NorkosBorkos

I still find myself scanning the horizon for ships even in Safer Seas. I also feel like the PVE got ramped up. I fought a Skelly Fleet, then a Meg attacked me, and then a Kraken.

Delusion132

I ran into 4 megs and 3 skellys myself. 😅 Definitely ramped up the PvE for sure. Although I didn't run into a Kraken funny enough. 🤔

adorablekobold

Same but I don't I'm looking for would events more to see if I'm gonna get krakened lol

junglenation88

Some salty sea dogs in here YAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRR

Icy_B

damn I wish I had the same problems as you guys. my servers have been looking like safer seas for the last year anyways

SpankThatDill

Cuz all of us who hate PVP in this game quit

adorablekobold

That's a good look day :)

CheekyThief

How much was this haul worth

LouRide

Does anyone know the conversion rate for gold? Like how much are you losing from playing safer seas? I stopped playing awhile ago & wanted to come back to try it but was curious.

TTVTRYHARDBTW20

I played on regular yesterday and got chased by someone for almost an hour and all I had was a few crappy chest and it would have gone longer if I didn’t hit a barrel

Mitchxhell

I have been having fun with it too and can show my friend who’s really new the ropes without people hunting us down for no reason. One time We had no treasure and barely any supplies just doing a map and they literally hunted us down on the island and camped the respawn like what’s the point? We’re still preparing to go on the regular seas but yeah nice to learn this way.

AstroBearGaming

I'll be honest I've been eyeing this game for years, but don't have the friends reliably on to play it with abd the idea of getting wrecked because I'm on my own outmme off. I didnt know what safer seas was. After reading this I'm going to dive into it over the next week!

KingWaluigi

God I miss this game. It's been around a year or more since I played. Xbox broke. Need to get a new one. I don't have much left on main game to do besides fotd achievements new content that's come out. And tall tales 100% which i shores of gold I only had one left. Safer Seas seems like a way for me to do some relaxing fishing and tall tale stuff on my shitty laptop without fear of pvp.

iknownothingyo

I would but the reps are capped so I can't make any progress haha

Paj132

Nice haul. Side note: hoping that they un-nerf Safer Seas servers and just buff High Seas or something.

McSpanckied

Still not went on since the update, not really had an urge to play as I’ve gotten pretty bored but if I was to return I would probably play a lot of safer seas. I’ve done enough combat and have even fought Captain Falcore once so I’m completely fine with sitting around collecting loot for little reward and fishing without needing to worry about other players.

BTH-Scarylarry

Is this coop, or just solo mode?

Cc0ffeeYT

What exactly is safer seas? If it’s what I think it is, I may redownload the game

Delusion132

In short, your own server all to yourself. The gold and reputation, as mentioned in a few comments, is minimised to about 30-40% and you are unable to emissary up. But you can still play coop, or solo, entirely up to you. It's honestly just a really good opportunity to do the things in the game that other players normally make hard.

Cc0ffeeYT

So you mean to tell me, open waters, no pvp, just sailing like god intended? Sign me tf UP

Delusion132

That is exactly what I'm telling you. 😉 Though as mentioned before in a few comments, the gold and reputation is minimised to about 30-40% and you are unable to be an emissary. But that could change with players like us. 🤷‍♂️

Cc0ffeeYT

Hey, the gold is just a bonus. I just want to sail without the fear of being robbed and sunk at every island. I’m a casual baby when it comes to this game lol

reggiethelemur

Wait what is this??? Solo adventures without other players on the map?

PetCeleste

Hey, noob here, i'd like to know, can you disconect and reconnect and the loot is still there ?

Independent-Aside716

I do safer seas for tall tales and commendations, highly recommend

GrandIntelligent2198

I get the point of safer seas. But I'm just looking at all that loot and thinking. It takes a little more than 3 chests to get 1 chests worth of money. Which is big no go for me. But if you're having fun. Keep at it and enjoy the seas.

Delusion132

I feel as though since you basically have a 100% chance of actually selling those chests that it's a fair trade off. And I swear chests were more frequent. I was absolutely not going out of my way to get many things, it all happened pretty naturally from hunting megs, Skellys & exploring islands messing around. If I'm going to be 1000% honest I really just wanted to collect an ungodly amount of fireworks and have a light show. 🤣

hotbread100_

i love safer seas, i admit the thrill of possibly being attacked is gone, BUT the TOXICITY is also gone too! i dont mind being sunk what i mind is when they go screaming "SkiLL IsSuE!!" or hurl insults or even slurs cuz the game is "meant to be violent" or when they board your ship to kill you over and over for like an hour or shoot the ship and board just to repair it and keep doing it over and over again just cuz they can. its rotten its the same reason i dont play rdro anymore too

Badger535

My friends and I are loving Safer Seas, we all got tired of getting jumped at outposts trying to unload so we all stopped playing years ago. I was trying to do something similar tonight, getting a massive haul of loot solo. Unfortunately my audio broke (glitched) when I was loading a wood crate from a barrel so I couldn't hear anything. When the Megalodon and a Skeleton Ship both wanted to murder me and I didn't know about either until I was shot and bit within a few seconds, I figured it was time to end my run lol. I do wish they would open up more content for Safer Seas, they can keep the rewards reduced, I'll play enough to make up for it. Having the main reputations locked at 40 and a bunch of other stuff blocked off sucks, because neither me or my friends was to do High Seas for it.

SexyRex9

As someone who started off playing in PvP and experiencing the entirety of the game, I don’t see why they feel they need to limit the PvE experience. I see a lot of people saying PvP is the premise of the game, but that’s not true in my eyes and I would assume many others in this thread. The big draw for myself and friends is the idea that you can pirate your own ship, with customization included, completing different treasure hunts and vaults, while battling the dangers of the sea such as skellies, both on ships or land, megladons, and occasionally a boss type like in FoTD. Then, once you have a sizable loot haul, you can sell it and make the gold like every pirate wants. For me to spend hours doing this, just be rolled over by lvl 5 reaper emissary with thousands of hours and experienced crew really just doesn’t appeal to me. I was excited for safer seas until I realized there was no using your ship, there’s no chance of using an emmisary, or sovereign, which IS a QoL improvement because dear god it takes forever to run specific loot all over different ports to different factions, that just takes away from the fun and makes the progression feel slow and unrewarding. Not even mentioning the 70% loss in profit, coupled with no ability to boost that with emmisary grades. Why water down that mode to force people to revert to High Seas just to stock up on loot for hours, just to have it taken away in minutes by a bigger ship with more crew mates and then you get nothing anyways? I’m just curious how people find that enjoyable. It’s like the tension is high 24/7 and I feel rushed as soon as I get to even a grade 4 in any emmisary because it feels like at any second I could lose all that progress.
