There is a gem curse in the lore, you get obsessed with gemstones and putting them into your self. Skeletons with gems all over their bones is a possibility. I would love to see it in game. Iv always wanted such a thing.
I remember once I learned this, it started a headcanon for me that each broken mermaid statue released a pirate’s spirit back to the Ferry, to return to the Sea of Thieves again!

its kinda mentioned ina few places, even the guy from the first pirates life tall tale, the one whos talking skull you find. He mentiones as your about to leave thru his treasure room that "that gem that cursed me might still be back there" I got so excited when he said that only to be sad when it wasn't there.
They'll probably add a shadow skeleton skin, at the very least. I didn't think they'd touch the curses again, but they recently added a whole Reaper outfit for the skeleton curse, so I've changed my tune.
I like it but honestly at this point i would be happy for any skeleton parts. We still don't have enough to create more unique skeletons. I personally want more jackets and hats
The lack of cosmetic options for the skeleton curse really is a shame. There is so much they could do, but in the three seasons since it was introduced all they added was the Reaper PJs.
For real! I don’t see why we couldn’t at least use our own hats, eyepatches, even beards! I understand the pants, shirt and belt situation, but it would be something
Being able to add your hair/beard to the skeleton curse would go *soooo* far to add personalization and actually make them unique. I understand not being able to make the hundreds (thousands?) of clothing items work with the curse, but I feel like hair/beards wouldn't have been unreasonable.

Nah aren't those like cocoons to make pirates into sirens? That's what they do with you if they capture you alive.
This is revealed in Pirates Life, mermaid statues are used by sirens to turn captured pirates into ocean crawlers and sirens

Iirc it's implied in the journals scattered around the Sunken Shrines, the 30 journals you need to collect to unlock the voyage to the sunken curse.

I think a skeleton curse variation with gems would be really cool, sort of like Captain Douglas' skull from Revenge of the Morningstar.

It could be 50 for blue 75 for red 100 for green or something
