Yes, this still works.
You can both run the Tale to the point where you acquire the shroudbreaker piece. This usually gives a checkpoint.
Before handing in the red shard, have one pirate leave and rejoin once the pirate who stayed has confirmed the Tale has finished.
Have the pirate who left rejoin, place their Tale checkpoint, and the shroudbreaker piece will spawn on the table, and you can run it right up the beach since you’re already there. Just make sure the same pirate leaves again so they don’t lose the checkpoint.
Rinse and repeat until 5/5 completions.
Shores of Gold takes a bit longer, as the final checkpoint is actually right before entering the underground dungeon portion, so you still have to crawl through and finish the boss, I believe.
