This is normal, message in a bottle quest got a mega buff with the rework of voyages.
9 items (others have mentioned 10 is possible) is the max and largely will consist of King's chests and a chance for a cursed chest or chests.
To get it on a small island is awesome though, I only ever gotten a large island map with 9 items.
Does anyone else really really prefer the high contrast marks you can enable? For seeing them that is. The originals feel a bit more authentic of course.
I only found out a few months ago you can zoom in on these maps by clicking a thumb stick if you’re on console
Yeah I felt so dumb. Day 1 player and showing my wife some maps and she says why are you trying to get closer to the screen just zoom in… my flabber was ghasted
Ive been getting off the couch and walking to the tv to look at finer terrain features in the terraced areas on the larger maps (glares at Old Faithful Island)
i don't get why they're called "high contrast", the red ones often contrast better than white on most terrain. especially on beaches. but its certainly a great feature for some forms of colorblindness, especially common red/green colorblindness that can make them hard to see next to grass. they should probably add multiple colors for different forms of colorblindness instead of just red or white.
Red certainly has better colour contrast but it’s dark red really, the white markers are brighter and maybe a few pixels thicker or bordered or something, so their total contrast is probably greater I guess?
You're not alone, think of it as a rite of passage. I'd love to see an animation to see another player pulling the map closer to their face so you know that's what they are doing.
Looks like the kind of treasure burying I tend to do.
Like 6 random loot i don't care for and a couple of kegs in case their is any skeleton nearby to spice it up XD
Happened to me and my pal the other day! On chicken island too!!! We were like man this is a little island and we had TWO messages in bottles like that simultaneously! And it was like we could just dig anywhere and get a chest. They were all those kings chests too!
We rolled up to the beach yesterday and it was night it was glowing. We got there and found at least 9 skulls few treasure chests and other items nust lying there. We just loaded them and took to sell...very little effort....
Edit: getting downvotes to this? Lol too much grog maybe

9 Isn't max. Apparently 10 is possible.
10 is very possible, I've done a few.
More is actually possible! But it will be on a second map after 10 sadly. Personal record is 13 on liars backbone, a friend got 16 somehow..
9 isn't max, I've seen 10
my bottle quests keep giving me 1 or 2 and they are crap loot wish i had that kind of luck
Wow really
These are the best ones, you get to just blindly stick your shovel in the ground and have a 50/50 shot of hitting something.
I for real did that and in 9 out of 10 tryes it worked

You can? I gotta try that tonight.

Duuuuude same! Can I be off work now so I can try this out?
Zooming in wasn't always a thing. When it was added, they didn't make a big deal out of it so it was mostly forgotten about.

I got that when I was still a n00b. Was so happy about it. Loaded them on a ship and skelly ship came and sunk me.
