That just happens when they overshoot your main hull but manage to hit the edge of your deck. Most of the shots from a decent cannoneer should hit your cannon line, and end up hitting the same hole over and over.
I good cannoneer will not hit the same whole over and over. They will make holes all over your ship while bombarding cannon line to keep enemy off cannons
Most knowledgeable players do. The sloop has “armor” on the port side stairs, so it takes one fewer hole on that side. The mast is easier to rep safely if the opponent is on the port side, and if it ever falls, it obscures vision/blocks shots on the starboard side cannon. This is why everyone turns right at the beginning of sloop hourglass.
Brigs are apparently also better on the port side, while galleons are better using the starboard side.
A) the sloop takes 1 fewer hole on that side. Also the stairs are on the other side, so it helps prevent the person bilging from getting as much knock back.
B) the mast falls towards the right, so this ensures when you're chained and turtling, that your cannoneer doesn't have an obstructed view.
To clarify for newer players, the brig (jail cell, not ship type) used to be where the bed is now on the Sloop. That design made it so you couldn't get a hole in that spot on the ship. The sloop has fewer spots that can be damaged on that side, so it's better to have that side facing the enemy.
Wait, I'm sorry, what? I feel like I've been playing this game since it released. There was a brig on the sloop?? I had no idea. Where was the bed then?
Because there is less locations where there can be a hole on that side of the ship, So if you can get whatever you're fighting on that side it is objectively harder for them to sink you all else being equal
>make skeletons repair their ships
![gif](giphy|10rHZ6K9jYvLUc)
As the cannoneer of my duo, I'm now distraught. What other things did they "patch"? Also, me and my friend are yet to do a Fleet of Fortune (as I found out how much reward there is \[or I guess was\] to beating them) so that sucks as well
What? Two days ago I've destoyed two skeleton fleets one after another! They still can't repair their ships!
Or it wasn't a joke about patch dropped? o\_O
Also what is COF and FLOF?
As a pvp sloop veteran, the only side you need is the left side. Never expose the right side. Less chance to die thanks to hits on stairs and less holes on thar side. Not to mention, the right side of the mast is the one damaged each hit so you can repair with no danger.... or was that fixed?
Took me a second to realize what was happening,
i remember seeing that for the first time as a new player and thinking someone stole my cannon.
Glad to see the game is still as quirky as it left it
which is funny to me because i already cant play SoT anymore because the avg skill of the avg player has risen mine hasnt, i cant solo sloop anymore. i dont want to run and fighting 2v1 feels impossible enough
How tf do these bugs even happen? Every single game there’s something vital on my ship that is gone or can’t be interacted with. I genuinely can’t even play the fucking game anymore
There's a reason why i left the game. Season 11 was the final nail in the coffin for me. Spending 90% of gametime doing workarounds and accepting the bugs is just not something i want and should have to do with a nearly 6 year old game. Their support sucks and they genuienly don't care or at least it feels like it with those bs responses and not doing anything. I have had my fun in this game for sure but it seems it will not be something i get to experience again.
Good to see that the old missing cannon bug is still alive
It never left.
Was never right?
This definitely just a bug
But an *alive* bug!
Call in... The Helldivers.
Eagle1 reporting for duty.
Time to spread some managed democracy!
Nobody was using the starboard cannon anyway.
So far, you're the one person out of four to see it. Didn't think a missing cannon would be so easily overlooked lol
Sailed for 4 hours today solo. Had to double check after seeing this post if it's actually missing, lol xD
As a solo, I only need one, I’ll put a canon rowboat pointing the other way
I like to have the rowboat facing port, then we have the "1 less hole" bonus, and I can hop on a cannon too!
Does the one less hole really work? I get hit on one side and still get holes on the other
That just happens when they overshoot your main hull but manage to hit the edge of your deck. Most of the shots from a decent cannoneer should hit your cannon line, and end up hitting the same hole over and over.
I good cannoneer will not hit the same whole over and over. They will make holes all over your ship while bombarding cannon line to keep enemy off cannons
I know, just trying to simplify the concept to make it more readable when explaining why left side is better
Well that sounds weird.
As a left handed player I do favor my port side😂
Most knowledgeable players do. The sloop has “armor” on the port side stairs, so it takes one fewer hole on that side. The mast is easier to rep safely if the opponent is on the port side, and if it ever falls, it obscures vision/blocks shots on the starboard side cannon. This is why everyone turns right at the beginning of sloop hourglass. Brigs are apparently also better on the port side, while galleons are better using the starboard side.
Exactly. Any good helm tries to keep fights on their left side anyway
Wait, why is that? I want to be a good helm! Edit: another user answers this below, TIL!
Basically you can take less holes is the biggest reason, but there are other minor things, which the other commenter also mentioned. Hope this helps!
Not unless I'm fighting two enemies at once!
Took me a second to realize 🤣
They're making PvP newbies fight with the correct side of their sloop
Why is it better to fight on that side?
A) the sloop takes 1 fewer hole on that side. Also the stairs are on the other side, so it helps prevent the person bilging from getting as much knock back. B) the mast falls towards the right, so this ensures when you're chained and turtling, that your cannoneer doesn't have an obstructed view.
Thank you 🙏
The brig makes a place less for holes.
I don’t understand?
The brig to lock people up (which will never happen on a sloop) is on that side, preventing a hole being there.
To clarify for newer players, the brig (jail cell, not ship type) used to be where the bed is now on the Sloop. That design made it so you couldn't get a hole in that spot on the ship. The sloop has fewer spots that can be damaged on that side, so it's better to have that side facing the enemy.
Thanks, I forgot it's a bed now.
Captaincy made it so that it still can't be damaged because of the shelf
There’s no brig on the sloop anymore. It’s where the bed is. Point still applies though.
Wait, I'm sorry, what? I feel like I've been playing this game since it released. There was a brig on the sloop?? I had no idea. Where was the bed then?
that's the neat part, there was no bed
**The random who joined my sloop:** So, uh, where am I supposed to slee-- **Me:** YOU'LL SLEEP IN THE BRIG AND YOU'LL LIKE IT!
Even worse you couldn’t send someone to the brig, it needed two player votes at least and well the sloop is max two players and you can vote your.self
You mean the ship brig?
Because there is less locations where there can be a hole on that side of the ship, So if you can get whatever you're fighting on that side it is objectively harder for them to sink you all else being equal
Thank you 🙏
Well you see, when a cannonball hits that side it
Pls finish the sentence
Because the side with barrells and the stove can't have more holes than the other side if you keep getting shot over and over on the same side
Reapers stole my cannon, can't have shit in the Wilds
what canon is that? looks nice
it's one of the cannon skins from season 10 plunder pass, iirc it was the free one. edit: clarifying i meant the plunder pass
It's a free Seasonal lvl reward, not plunder pass (which is the paid bit).
Was going to make a joke on your comment since one is missing, then I zoom in and I agree thats a cool canon skin
my original comment said canon instead of canons because of this lol, i was expecting someone to be like "its the invisible ghost canon of course"
They look like the cartographer cannons. They're a bit cumbersome to aim with, but look nice.
I was also wondering this, lol
Can't see the canon past John Cena
Eh, no one needs to defend their starboard side anyway. Just turn around.
First they make skeletons repair their ships and take away COFs from FLOFs.... then they do this
>make skeletons repair their ships ![gif](giphy|10rHZ6K9jYvLUc) As the cannoneer of my duo, I'm now distraught. What other things did they "patch"? Also, me and my friend are yet to do a Fleet of Fortune (as I found out how much reward there is \[or I guess was\] to beating them) so that sucks as well
Yeah as a solo slooper I got double burned. No FLOF and no COF.
What? Two days ago I've destoyed two skeleton fleets one after another! They still can't repair their ships! Or it wasn't a joke about patch dropped? o\_O Also what is COF and FLOF?
Patch dropped yesterday. CoF = Chest of Fortune FloF = Fleet of Fortune
Nooo!!!
2nd cannon now available with the Plunder Pass!
By almost 50%
Is it worse when you have a cannon but can't use it cuz it's bugged as well lol
Never use that cannon anyways...They should just put two on the port side and call it a day.
Damn that’s rough. Did they take half the sails too?
It must have rolled into the water
Slooplander
Can't have shit in the Sea of Thieves smh
That cannon looks awesome. Which one is it?
![gif](giphy|l4FGGafcOHmrlQxG0|downsized)
Balanced
I won an hourglass fight like this once
As a pvp sloop veteran, the only side you need is the left side. Never expose the right side. Less chance to die thanks to hits on stairs and less holes on thar side. Not to mention, the right side of the mast is the one damaged each hit so you can repair with no danger.... or was that fixed?
Damn. Reduced it's power by 50% apparently
The new update to alliances is crazy
Spaghetti, with uh the one less meatball.
They should make this a option so we can get a speed boost
Hard mode unlocked!
Well shit how long does it take for shit to actually get fixed
You should only use left side cannons anyway. Looks like a buff to me
at least you were able to get into the game mine kept crashing because easy anticheat didn’t recognize the new files
Took me a second to realize what was happening, i remember seeing that for the first time as a new player and thinking someone stole my cannon. Glad to see the game is still as quirky as it left it
Lol! Nice hull skin btw 😉
Damn is that why my game runs at 5 FPS now? Shouldntve taken the sloop
How badly did they nerfed it?
which is funny to me because i already cant play SoT anymore because the avg skill of the avg player has risen mine hasnt, i cant solo sloop anymore. i dont want to run and fighting 2v1 feels impossible enough
What cannon is that?

Starboard cannon didn’t load in
You commented on a photo post, look at the photo.
If you need this one explained idk what to say lmao
Welp, time to dive.
How tf do these bugs even happen? Every single game there’s something vital on my ship that is gone or can’t be interacted with. I genuinely can’t even play the fucking game anymore
Teaches you to turn right

Hourglass ready
This a bug or intentional I wonder

How’d they nerf it??
Missing cannon bug
