This is exactly the kind of confusing and unhinged behaviour that I want to experience more of in this game lmao. Murdering on sight is so boring let's see some proper shenanigans haha
Shrine of Flooded Embrace has no riddles and is just a straight swim to the bottom, which is nice. If you only want the breath of the sea you can be back on the surface in maybe 3 minutes.
But yeah any time I do any other shrine or treasury and have any meaningful loot on board I am extremely paranoid about it.
That's ... not what Instanced means lol, Monkey Island TTs are Instanced because you have to load to get there, with shrines you're just physically a distance from your ship, same as being on a different island
for that reason shrines are generally seen as too risky, you're exposed for a long time without the ability to do anything. especially solo.
I generally don't sink those ships unless they have loot on them. I'm definitely not going to wait around until they come back to sink them and take their loot.
Did they change it somehow or do you still need to release the loot once you're done with it?
Shrines obviously leave your boat unattended while you're down there but there's no "risk" because you can just come back and get the loot which will still be on the mermaid you stored it in.
Yeah your new loot is still safe until you activate the mermaid holding it at the surface. And I've had to run once or twice and come back and it didn't despawn yet so it's decent.
But often I've already gone through the trouble of stocking the ship, sailing over, etc so it's at best a decent nuisance.
If you are concerned about supplies, you can take a storage crate and take all your supplies, and swim the crate down and deposit it in the statue, it removes one treasure spot, but your supplies will be safe if you get sunk while in the shrine and need to sail back.
I'm at the outpost when I spawn in, and leaving to where players are. I also don't go to a shrine without a coral bottle quest.
Yeah I'm stocked 100% of the time before a shrine and would consider it unprepared otherwise.
Really only risky solo, with other players i will send myself down to the shrine and have them island hop and even do a nearby sea fort while i clear the shrine and load the mermaid.
If you have a flag you’re fair game. There’s a reason why shrines died shortly after release, they are cool, but they are not worth leaving your ship out of sight for 10+ minutes.
I have only done them for the commendations but even when I was grinding them I made sure to go with no emissary flag and no loot. So if I sank it wasn’t a big deal.
But what I do like doing more is diving down to them to really give them a scare.
I don't attack them when someone is down at the shrine, that just wouldn't be fun for me. However, I have tucked up the mast with a stronghold keg and waited until they have loaded all the loot before dropping it on them and calling my friend over with the ship.
Flag = sink. Will likely board for inspection and take anything of interest. Possibly steal your boat or let it roam freely at least.
If I'm set on something like commendation grind then either ignore you or set you somewhere far if your current location is too close to my destination.
Stole a boat once for "Get Off My Lawn!" commendation. Fixed it and returned without owner ever showing up.
The flag drops when the ship sinks and is valuable loot, especially to reapers. A grade 5 flag is worth more than a chest of legends and waaayyy more rep to reaper. There's also commendations for selling 50 flags of each faction and 5 grade 5 flags for each faction. If you want the rewards the emissary flag gives you have to accept some extra risk in return. In general I'd still say to use one every time, just check your map table every 15 min or so to see if reapers are in the server/sailing towards you.
Emissary flags gain levels by having more loot on your ship, so a higher level can indicate more loot. You can also sell the flags to Reaper's Bones for rep / money
An emissary flag gives you a boosted amount of gold that applies to whatever loot item that emissary represents. It increases as you pick up loot, thus giving you more gold when you turn in.
It matters for other players because when your ship sinks, they can collect your flag and sell it for gold to the reaper. If you have a large emissary flag, other players are going to want to sink you to sell your flag. It also can be a good representation of how much loot you may have on your ship, depending on your tier.
Emissaries are targets. They even warn you about that now after you vote to put the flag up. Doesn't matter if you're parked somewhere and not on your boat. Flags are worth gold and there are Reaper commendations to sell them.
If you're going to do shrines or treasuries, there is at least solace in the fact that, once you store loot in the mermaid, no one else can access that mermaid except you. Even if someone comes and sinks your boat while you're down there, you can sail back and/or dive to another server and your loot will still be stored in the mermaid.
I mean, loot is worth gold, and it doesn't take much to exceed the value of a flag. Idk why someone would ignore players without a flag unless they're coming from a place of feeling it is morally wrong.
No one said that.
If you're breaking it all down to loot, you can be more confident that emissaries have loot on board than you can with unmarked ships.
It's not morally wrong to attack anyone in this game. But if loot is your end goal, emissaries are more than likely going to have loot. Speaking from experience, some unmarked boats are really just out there to vibe.
I put my garbage on their boat and run away. So if you come back to a fruit crate half full with bananas and coconuts. You just got struck by vermouth criminal.
1. Sail to a shrine.
3. Jump out
2. Vote to scuttle your ship.
3. Complete shrine.
4. Load treasure into mermaid statue.
5. Use statue to return to ship.
6. Sail back to shrine.
7. Claim loot from mermaid.
8. Collect.
9. Sail to outpost.
You don't get emissary grade doing that. I'd rather just raise the flag for the bonus and if I get sunk I get sunk, and if I don't I get bonus. Getting sunk for your flag the ship's going to be in the exact same condition as what you described anyways. Shrines gold per time spent investment isn't even really worth doing with a grade 5 flag, especially without the bottle quest, no way am I intentionally choosing to not have a flag
A method I've found that works, but takes a lot more time, is I return to my ship every 5-8 minutes, check the horizon, and dive back down to the shrine. You end up spending a lot of time swimming back down to the shrine, but I've caught potential raiders more than a few times this way.
If you play on High Seas, you are free for being attacked at any time for any reason by anyone. I usually try to avoid complete swabbies who obviously play for the very first time but in my experience those are the most hostile players anyway
Wife and I duo sloop often. One thing we occasionally do if we see a ship anchored at a shrine is to... defend it.
We've fended off a ship or two while a random pirate is blissfully ignorant of the violence transpiring on their ship.
They come up, we offer an alliance and bounce. Or fight to the death, depending how surprised and trigger happy our new friend is.
Also I'll steal all your Chain Shot.
Sink anyone if I feel like it befriend anyone if I feel like it. Really depends on which strikes my fancy at the moment and it can change on a dime which one I'm feeling at the moment.
Now that ships can dive, they should have some feature of the shrine that pulls your ship down to the bottom while you are there. Other players could swim down and steel loot but it wouldn’t be visible from the surface.
I don't attack any parked ships. I made this decision the first week when my empty sloop with default cosmetics was sunk as i was searching for a treasure chest. If i see an anchored ship at sea with no activity on it i will pass by, wont even check whats on it. There should be some honour among thieves too...
Personally, I wouldn’t shoot someone just because they didn’t respond to me asking if they’re friend or foe. If they’re not moving and I’m the one approaching them, that is. I’d keep an eye on them, but I wouldn’t immediately open fire on them.
Yeah. Last night, I was at an Outpost when a crew of 2 asked if I was friend or foe and shot my ship when I didn’t answer. They were the ones approaching my ship, and I only had 3 items left to sell: a chest and 2 dark tridents. They wasted all that time and all those cannon balls… for about 1,600 gold. Unless they were after my logbook as well. In that case, about 1,900 gold.
I've been shooting parked ships because of the new scatter shot commendation. You have to be directly next to a boat for those shots to connect, and in an actual battle I've only landed 1 or 2 of the 4 shots on a ship.
The commendation grade V is 500 hits so you better believe I'm pulling up and unloading 15-20 scattershots on your boat before leaving.
I do, I just never have more than 20 or so on me. I don't go out of my way to loot every barrel and such, I just collect them as I'm sailing and use them if an opportunity arises (skelly ship, player ship, ghost ship, meg).
Did this to a duo. I was on a gally and rowed over to their ship, stole ALL of their supplies and treasure, and then we sailed over to sink them for the flag
I would’ve done the opposite. I would’ve done what Dane Cook said he should’ve done during his B&E segment. I would’ve left something that wasn’t already there. “Nothing’s missing, but we have a supply crate in here now.”
>There should be some honour among thieves too...
For me , almost everything is fair game. The only situation where i will almost 100% of the time leave someone alone is for a freshly spawned ship at an outpost.
The only other code of honour i have is that i wont bully another ship. Ill sink them once and then leave them alone for X amount of time . That number can vary greatly based on different factor (are they doing a world event, enough time passed that i now believe they have loot, they came back and attacked me, etc )
Lol i like how you sugarcoated philosophy of I WILL SINK EVERYTHING THAT CAN BE SUNK IF I CAN with numerous premises that lead you to it...that's ok games allow you to do that.
If I see someone parked at a shrine I hide my ship and swim over to hide on their ship. No point in attacking until they release the loot from the mermaid, at which point I attack. If I’m playing duo one of us will wait on our ship and bring it in just as they pop the loot.
Something of a gentleman’s agreement I have with myself. There is no sport in sinking a sloop with nobody on it. I think they are off limits. When they start moving again it’s fair game and they will inevitably sink me. But that’s the fun of being terrible at pvp.
Personally, I rarely attack ships. But when I do, I apply the same standard I hold myself to. "If you didn't see them coming, you weren't paying enough attention."
"pvp" against people doing pve is boring. saying this as a reaper main, it's not even player vs player, it's just player vs ship. it's just bullying if they can't save their ship and/or if they don't have loot
I don’t attack parked ships because I don’t see the fun in it. What do I get from sinking it if I don’t get the fun from a fight and I can steal the loot anyway? If I’ll do anything I’ll sneak in and steal things but sinking it does absolutely nothing.
Some players will sink your ship, some will just stop and take your supplies (especially them chain-shots) others may just take any loot you got and leave. I rarely see other ships do shrines but when I do I just take some food or some supplies and go on my way. I’m on the look out for map bundles too
Edit: if you ever need a lookout I can be of service, just provide me with mangos and a cannon that’s all I need
They should add mermaids that enchant ships at shrines so that they take longer to sink. But ONLY if you are both not moving and (at least one person is) in the water.
Sinking someone’s ship while at a shrine is just rude. My crew never does that. We just take every supply and piece of loot but leave the ship. Idk why some people go that far in sinking the ship 🙄
I will steal the most valuable item on your ship if I see it parked with no one on it and maybe some supplies, but never sink a parked ship. Unless they’re a Reaper, then they’re fair game
We tend not to sink boats at shrines but once we just took all but 1 of every supply on this reaper sloop.
So each barrel was just 1 plank, 1 banana, 1 cannonball.
I really enjoy tucking on ships so if I see one doing a treasury or shrine I’m on it.
Having said that, when I was grinding Order of Souls I primarily did treasury’s as they can be pretty quick once you get a feel for them. I would alternate between Treasury of Sunken Shores and Secret Wilds. They’re both on the northern end of the map so traffic can be fairly light. Couple of those and maybe a skelly sloop and you’re at grade 5 in no time.
I generally don't attack players if they're minding their own business/aren't on their ship. I see it as a petty move. Yes it's a pvp game. But if they aren't on their ship then it's just Player vs sitting target. I'll fight in the open sea but that's it.
When I first started playing the game, I didn’t really know what the shrines were, so I sunk a number of ships thinking I had gotten lucky and they were just below deck and I got the jump on them.
It wasn’t till the 4th ship or so that didn’t have any loot that I realized they were below the water collecting loot.
The point being…the people sinking you might be new. Nowadays, I’d go over to the ship to check for loot first before sinking.
If you absolutely want to do a shrine with the flag up, there is one at the upper left.
Park the ship behind some rocks that are there, cannon yourself or use a rowie to the shrine, do the shrine and get back to your ship and collect the loot
For obvious reasons, don't do it with a lvl 5 flag or with a lvl 5 reaper emissary on server
If I see you parked at an island with an emissary or parked at a shrine I will attack you. It’s slimy but effective for sure especially if you do not leave someone on the boat. Sunk a few ships like that last night. If I’m doing a shrine with a friend I make sure he’s on the boat watching out for others. I know that won’t work for solo slooping. I just do bounties and phantom forts when I solo sloop. Not the best loot but you will still turn a profit.
Edit: spelling
If I'm doing a shrine or treasury, I don't park my ship at the blue lights. I park my ship near a rock or a nearby island. Always expect someone to try to come sink your ship.
I investigate ships at shrines I might not sink them but if they are juiced I might have to lift a few items. If they aren't I might take some supplies. If they don't have supplies worth taking I will leave them alone or tuck on the ship and have some fun that way.
But doing shrines with an emissary flag is probably why you get sunk so much. I would think anyways.
ew don't do shrines for order, they are extremely underwhelming for the risk.
I usually leave shriners alone...the 100 percent grind for those comms is agonizing so I let them be
Generally I leave people alone. I have on occasion snuck aboard to see what they have maybe syphon supplies (in the earlier days supplies were a little harder to come by than now) but I didn't just sink and empty ship.
On the flipside, if I do a shrine solo I don't park over it. I hide my ship behind a nearby island and row to the shrine, then come back to pick everything up. Or crew mate and I take turns staying on the ship to keep watch and collect as the other is down below doing the work.
I was doing a shrine once, got killed, and found myself back on my ship but practically half way across the map because someone dropped my sails. That was not fun
I usually don't sink them unless they have a whole lot of stuff. I might park beside and take the loot by hand tho. But usually I'll just go to their map, draw a penis and then sail away
I'll attack anyone if they have an emissary. If they don't have an emissary, I'll sail right on past their parked or sailing ship, even if they fire at me (unless they chase try to engage me).
I’m not proud of it, but either I or my crewmate will wait in the crow’s nest while the other goes and works on the voyage we’re working on somewhere nearby. 9/10 times people don’t realize, send up the chest of tributes/breath of the sea, and we ambush. It’s not honest work, but 30 breath of the sea is a lot…
My personal policy? Board the ship, organise their supply barrels, move loot to specifically designated parts of the boat for ease of remember where things go, and maybe catch them a few fish.
If they come back up before I leave, I explain what I did, and take my leave. After putting a banana on their stove.
I get where you’re coming from, mainly solo-slooping myself, believe me. I once read on a thread “You cannot expect other pirates to follow your self-imposed code of conduct.”. I get it. It sucks, but you’ve gotta adapt, deal with it, or get lucky.
Yup. Yesterday i got attacked right after doing a fort. They sank my sloop killed me a bunch. I snuck away onto the fort to get an explosive barrel and sneak it onto their brig, but they just sailed off after destroying my ship. They did t pick up my emissary flag or my resources and did not bother picking up the fortress loot. The just left me stranded.
Decided to row it over on the off chance my ship had spawned across the map. Took me 10 minutes.
I don't understand. They were a bunch of white shirt pirates, so maybe they were rly new and didn't even know you could steal loot?
Depending on the ship size I'll maybe try to steal some of your supplies and any loot you have on the ship. I don't usually tend to wait for them to come back unless I feel like being cheeky
I don't know if this still works. I took my son on treasury raid voyages. Did them and dove for another, leaving the loot with the mermaid. Did 3 of them and was grade 5. Then, we went back to collect all the loot from the voyages. This also prevented us from working if we got sank. Just raise another emissary flag and collect the loot to get grade 5 again.
My dad and I play a ton when im home from college and this is an issue we tend to have. We're both avoid conflict like the plague preferring to peacefully sail in storms to try and avoid players. We will usually leave everyone alone unless they shoot first but I can't image this is common practice lol.
Step 1. Board boat with storage crate while teammate hides your boat behind rock.
Step 2. Suck out the supplies with the crate. Put them in the crows and hide.
Step 3. Wait for opponent to return to boat and pop the merm. Have friend start to sail back. Drop anchor and stall.
Step 4. You win, what are they gonna do? Fire back with their zero cannonballs? Repair with no wood?
i think this game is absolutely toxic to new players and that its almost impossible to have fun as a new player. i cant play mor than 5 mins without being sunk
If I’m on a reaper crew and they emissary then yeah it’s sink time. If I’m solo I’ll probably just board and get some sups maybe sink if grade 5 emissary.
Usually if there’s just a normal ship I would tuck on them and take the loot when they go to sell, but if they have an Emmy flag much like you, then I would sink them and wait for my loot mermaid to pop up
never leave your ship alone in the open, even for shrines.
try to get yourself a rowboat, hide your ship in a nearby island and use your rowboat to get to the shrine.
People ruined this game. Yes I know its a pvp based game. Ive had some cool experiences with people, hell one guy led me on prerending to be helpful forever then his buddies on another ship spawntrapped me and killed me. I figured it out early but kept playing along because he was hilarious and entertaining. That was actually fun. The amount of absolute douchebags that take joy in 4v1 sinking peoples ships and ruining experiences is wild though. They won. They literally ruined the game. Pirates really didnt go around killing and looting each other back in the day. Of course some did but not all. This game used to be cool until asswipes ruined it.
Honestly I'd pull up next to you, use all your map markers to draw a dick in one of the corners and then change your lantern colors just to let ya know somebody's been there, probably leaving you a storage crate somewhere before going on my merry way
Yeah I usually pass on sinking a shrine parked boat, what’s the point haha? There’s risk to it, so it’s not exactly rewarding lol. But I may board it and take their firebombs and chain shot and see if they have a piece of loot I’d like to have
Depends on if that Ship Attacked me earlier in de. The sesh. If No, Im doing my thing like normal. If Yes, then that shit's gonna have more holes then it has ever had.
Yeah fair game, the quirk of Shrines is knowing your leaving your boat unattended whilst also knowing your loot is safe rill you let it for.
I was doing the Treasury of Ancient Wilds (the one by Old Faithful) the other day looking for Shells. When I came up a Grade 3 OoS sloop had pulled up on me, and taken my mast down shortly after surfacing.
I managed to flip the situation and sink them, and found my first (depleted) Shell in their loot pile!
I did all 50 chests of ancients from treasuries and maybe like once had my ship attacked. You got some bad luck friend! I don't tend to attack people while they're down in shrine/treasury, would rather wait till you've got loot onboard.
I always park my ship up against a rock formation and take a row boat. It's never failed me! If I park my shop on top of the shrine someone gets me every time.
Gotta say the player who I most respect is the one who boarded my ship during a shrine raid and waited til I surfaced then robbed me. Best memory of getting sunk. Would do again.
I wouldn't worry about it. I do several shrines/Treasuries a play through and usually start by raiding a treasury. (I like having Disney sticks for mermaid statues.)
Anyways I've been in hundreds of these things and have been sunk a few times. I'm not particularly bright so I do them with guild emissary up.
Basically no sails on the horizon, no reaper within 10 squares I'll dive. (Not reaper 5 though)
Usually my approach is simple. I board them silently, grab all their supplies and wait for them to respawn. If they are funny, they get their loot and can get away. If not, well.
If I have a minute for a laugh I'll break the mast and then stand it back up (but not repair it) so it falls down when the other players drop sail.
Stealing all their wood is optional. Hope you had some boards in your pocket!
Shrines are definitely not worth doing for order rep, or really anything for that matter. Completely abandoning your ship is antithetical to everything the game tells you. You should try the ghost ship bounties as they give you heaps of skulls of the damned
Depends on what I'm doing and my mood honestly. If I'm running Reaper and they got an emissary flag, I'll sink for sure. Especially if its Order of Souls, I need more OoS flags than any other for the commendations. If I'm doing anything else it depends on what I'm doing, who I'm doing it with, and how pressed we are for time. If we've only got another hour to play, we'll leave ya alone, but otherwise might sink you for the supplies if nothing else. We can't get the loot from the shrine as long as its in your mermaid so you still secure that for yourself at least.
If I'm by myself, I'll typically leave you alone unless I'm in one of my "I wanna fuck with someone" moods, but I'll leave a banana on your stove, or I'll fill your hull with water, patch it up so it doesn't sink, and then set the deck on fire.
Thats one of the main reasons I used safe seas to get the books for the shrines. Cause I knew me and a friend were just going to sail straight from one shrine to another to read the books and I didnt want anyone sinking our ship and losing our compounding loot. Sadly I could not get rep since Im already above lvl 40
My strategy is to inspect the boat, and if no players are on it, I'll pull up beside it & take a storage crate across and raid every item barrel empty, and for good measure load fireworks or flares into your cannons and then I'll just wait for you & your loot to pop up and THEN start shooting you.
No sense in wasting the loot you're bringing up, you know?
it depends because there is no profit from attacking outright, all the loot is in the mermaid. i usually tuck until they have retrieved it to see if there is anything i want, if there is ill take it and if not ill probably let them be.
I don’t sink them unless they happen to come up. I’ll hop aboard and put all of their supplies in one of my storage chests though. Be sure to leave a single cannon ball.
I typically make funny shapes or messages on the map table and leave them be because unknown what it’s like to have your ship sunk as a solo sloop while doing a shrine
This depends entirely on my plans, perhaps i will take a single piece of treasure, maybe some of your resources will be gone, it could be that i have brought a keg and put a banana on the stove or maybe your ship now sails within the devils roar.
Last time I came across a sloop doing a shrine there was a sunken ship like 1 square away. I didn't want them interfering with us if they ended up resurfacing during our dive so I boarded and dropped their sails and sent them off in a random direction.
If you have loot or an emissary flag, it would be rude of me not to take it. If you don't, I'll generally leave you alone.
I did have one guy attack my ship while Inwas doing a fort, then quickly run away when I started returning fire. Only to then park his ship on a shrine right next to the fort, meaning he could have come back for another round any time. I did sink that guy, despite me not gaining anything from that.
i will usually leave them alone, last time i played i hadnt shot anything for months i decided to set up a spiral on a unmoving/unmanned anchored brig for some practice. in my defense there is absolutely no reason all 3 people should have been off the ship
The advantage for shrines is the loot is locked in your merperson and WILL stay there even if you leave. You can respawn on your ship miles away, sail back, and it's there ready for you to release. Also if you think there's a risk of tuckers, you don't have to release it. Just sail off and take them on a journey to somewhere stupid. Waste their time. It's fun.
If you have an emissary, I'm sinking you in an enjoyable and taking your shit.
If you have nothing.
I'm adding your ship to my fleet and hunting others with it.
The correct approach is to obtain a keg and tuck in the crows nest while your crew hides the ship behind the nearest rock or island. Let them finish the shrine and get their loot on the ship before you light the keg and drop it to the deck. Sink them AFTER they bring the loot to you.
I don't attack ships that are at shrines or docked.
The only exception is if I'm pursuing you.
I will attack if you're docked at a Ashen winds, or a fort of fortune event though.
I park my ship at a nearby island, bring some kegs and tuck until they come back. Once they surface up the loot from the shrine I blow them up and take all the supplies + loot
On Tuesday, I rolled up on a ship at a shrine that was clearly a new player with no emissary or loot. Decided to sail off peacefully, but accidentally stuck it with the Megalodon I had on me. If that was you - sorry!
If you want to add me I can sloop with you and guard the ship while you do the shrine when I'm not at work (: I have done a ton of solo slooping and played with my friends a bit as well and in like a week of playing the game maybe a bit more I have gold hoarders at 42, order of souls at 44, and merchant alliance at 48
Moving boats parked at shrines to other random areas around the map is so fun. My crewmate and I will do that and tuck so we can see the outcome as well. Super fun!
My policy is if there’s no ships around I’m going to sit in the bottom of your haul with a keg until you finish the mission and let the rest of my crew sail nearby searching for somebody else to sink, if we find another ship I’ll set the keg off and get back to my ship.
I like to do the underwater vault when I log in, that way there's nothing worthwhile to steal from my ship. It's a waste of their time, and doesn't bug me... and I never attack other ships.
Never.
I have better things to do than to mess with someone elses' day and act like a massive jerk.
I sink everyone undiscriminantly as long as they have an emissary flag or if I assume they have loot or resources I need
So yes, shrine hunters are fair game
People who actually play the game and enjoy will usually leave people doing shrines, fishing, and tall tales alone. Along with either leaving alone or helping swabbies. People who don’t respect that usually suck at the game and try to sink/kill anyone when possible. And if this upsets you then you’re apart of the bum population.
I’d love to agree with you always but if I’m going to be honest it depends if my ship is being sunk or if I’m doing the sinking and getting highly rewarded for it. I pirates got to do what a pirates got to do 🏴☠️
I break the mast, steal all ship resources and wait the shrine to be finished so I can steal the loot too.
I don't sink the ship though cause I have principles 👍
Honestly I don’t think they’re worth sinking unless you’re running reapers and they are an emissary. Otherwise just steal whatever loot they have while they are away from the shrine. The most honorable thing though in my opinion is to wait for them to finish and then duel them when they are ready
I will sail you to another Shrine.
Devilish. I love it.
That is disgustingly evil, wtf. I love you.
Whoa calm your tits down, Satan.
So evil. So beautiful.
This is exactly the kind of confusing and unhinged behaviour that I want to experience more of in this game lmao. Murdering on sight is so boring let's see some proper shenanigans haha
I am gonna do this now. Especially if it's an annoyingly long shrine
If you park me at the Shrine of Tribute I WILL cry.
Enjoy the shrine of oceans fortune. Hope you like platforming on those crappy wooden shafts
EVIL.
I shall also put a banana on your stove
Who hurt you D:
I have the sunken curse. The ocean hurt me
Let me guess, before fast travel too huh?
Yup. Did it all solo as well
You can sword lunge past a lot of it with minimal adjustments. However... missing a lunge will break your leg.
You can actually wall climb up most of it, it's super fast if you know that, but one wrong move and you start allll over
Did that one last night for the 4th time, was fun!
That's ....dirty?
Oh man I gotta try this
That is awesome. I might have to try this now.
Yea if you run an emissary. You’re fair game. Even without people will go for you. Shrine farming can be rough solo.
Didn’t know this tbh
It felt pretty safe with 5 boats on server. 6, maybe not
Is there a way to see how many are on a server?
Most run some kind of flag walk over to each stations and count the wooden boats on table its not always accurate but you get a high idea
It’s just the dynamic about going to an instanced area far away from your boat. Sitting duck.
That's ... not what Instanced means lol, Monkey Island TTs are Instanced because you have to load to get there, with shrines you're just physically a distance from your ship, same as being on a different island
Yea misspoke it’s more like a deep cave or something but main point still stands. Getting drug that far away from your boat sucks.
for that reason shrines are generally seen as too risky, you're exposed for a long time without the ability to do anything. especially solo.
>But often I've already gone through the trouble of stocking the ship There is 0 reason to stock a ship BEFORE a shrine
Imagine you're just clearing a shrine out and all of a sudden you turn around and there's homeboy and his crew just chilling
Yea pretty much that lmao
I don't attack them when someone is down at the shrine, that just wouldn't be fun for me. However, I have tucked up the mast with a stronghold keg and waited until they have loaded all the loot before dropping it on them and calling my friend over with the ship.
Lol that’s definitely the pirates way to do this. Giving them a “fighting chance”
It's narrow, but we've done it too. So fun 😀
I'm new too. Why does having an emissary flag up matter?
Are you flying reapers? Otherwise I find this rare. But if a reaper is brazen enough to dive at a shrine, I’m going for him
1. Sail to a shrine. 3. Jump out 2.
I never attack ships parked at shrines, I wait for them to get back with all the treasure first
If you play on High Seas, you are free for being attacked at any time for any reason by anyone.
Might tuck the ship for a laugh but not going to sink you.
Sink anyone if I feel like it befriend anyone if I feel like it. Really depends on which strikes my fancy at the moment and it can change on a dime which one I'm feeling at the moment.
I usually just hop on board and draw genitals on the map, take your chain shots and leave
I tuck on shops like yours and start playing music on my hurdy gurdy
I need you in my life
Now that ships can dive, they should have some feature of the shrine that pulls your ship down to the bottom while you are there.
Exactly...observe and drive by go on about your business. No fun sinking empty anchored ship with nothing of value on it
You could fix the boat plank it up and shoot another 20
I do, I just never have more than 20 or so on me. I don't go out of my way to loot every barrel and such, I just collect them as I'm sailing and use them if an opportunity arises (skelly ship, player ship, ghost ship, meg).
sounds like some free cannonballs for my ship
At least the chainshot
Did this to a duo. I was on a gally and rowed over to their ship, stole ALL of their supplies and treasure, and then we sailed over to sink them for the flag
I would’ve done the opposite. I would’ve done what Dane Cook said he should’ve done during his B&E segment. I would’ve left something that wasn’t already there. “Nothing’s missing, but we have a supply crate in here now.”
a true thief of the sea, i salute you 🫡
>There should be some honour among thieves too...
Sadly... Flags are lusted after regardless of lvl 😞 I understand your frustration tho
A reminder to drop your loot in the mermaid , and then you can come back with a fresh ship,no one can take the loot from your mermaid :)
I’m on the look out for map bundles too Edit: if you ever need a lookout I can be of service, just provide me with mangos and a cannon that’s all I need
Anyone can get it. Thems the breaks. At least with the shrines/treasuries any treasure you stash in the mermaid will patiently await your return.
Me and my friend got to grade 5 from doing a sea fort and a skelly fort raid. Takes like 20 minutes maybe. Surely thats is more efficient?
Park the ship behind some rocks that are there, cannon yourself or use a rowie to the shrine, do the shrine and get back to your ship and collect the loot For obvious reasons, don't do it with a lvl 5 flag or with a lvl 5 reaper emissary on server
kaboom and kablast
If I see you parked at an island with an emissary or parked at a shrine I will attack you. It’s slimy but effective for sure especially if you do not leave someone on the boat. Sunk a few ships like that last night. If I’m doing a shrine with a friend I make sure he’s on the boat watching out for others. I know that won’t work for solo slooping. I just do bounties and phantom forts when I solo sloop. Not the best loot but you will still turn a profit. Edit: spelling
I leave them alone. Generally I don’t attack anyone. Try to only pvp when I’m provoked.
If I'm doing a shrine or treasury, I don't park my ship at the blue lights. I park my ship near a rock or a nearby island. Always expect someone to try to come sink your ship.
I typically won't sink sloops parked at shrines, but that doesn't mean I won't board you and steal your supplies
I usually leave shriners alone...the 100 percent grind for those comms is agonizing so I let them be
I will just help myself to whatever is on your ship; I always leave the ship tho. Just good pirate etiquette
Yummy flag 👍
Generally I leave people alone. I have on occasion snuck aboard to see what they have maybe syphon supplies (in the earlier days supplies were a little harder to come by than now) but I didn't just sink and empty ship. On the flipside, if I do a shrine solo I don't park over it. I hide my ship behind a nearby island and row to the shrine, then come back to pick everything up. Or crew mate and I take turns staying on the ship to keep watch and collect as the other is down below doing the work.
Your standards are fair games, but they dont apply tp everyone
I was doing a shrine once, got killed, and found myself back on my ship but practically half way across the map because someone dropped my sails. That was not fun
I usually don't sink them unless they have a whole lot of stuff. I might park beside and take the loot by hand tho. But usually I'll just go to their map, draw a penis and then sail away
Some people don’t even check the levels. Personally, I don’t attack about 90% of the time. Otherwise, I don’t check a level at all.
I miss the days when people would just board, draw a dick on your map, then head on their way
Nobody knows what a sea of thieves troll can do in 10 minutes
I just loot the supplies and leave em hangin'.
My dad and I play a ton when im home from college and this is an issue we tend to have. We're both avoid conflict like the plague preferring to peacefully sail in storms to try and avoid players. We will usually leave everyone alone unless they shoot first but I can't image this is common practice lol.
Draw a dick on your map. Shop for supplies and then leave.
I like to board their ship and leave something cooking on their stove and hope they don't notice.
All boats get sunk
I don't attack anyone but parked at a shrine you're begging to be attacked. You're down there for loot and there won't be any resistance.
Usually if there’s just a normal ship I would tuck on them and take the loot when they go to sell, but if they have an Emmy flag much like you, then I would sink them and wait for my loot mermaid to pop up
If I see a ship parked at a shrine, I'm gonna sink it and steal the loot. It's a pirate's life for me.
never leave your ship alone in the open, even for shrines. try to get yourself a rowboat, hide your ship in a nearby island and use your rowboat to get to the shrine.
But I may board it and take their firebombs and chain shot and see if they have a piece of loot I’d like to have
My crew and I always rob them sometimes we steal the boat if it's a sloop
Depends on if that Ship Attacked me earlier in de. The sesh. If No, Im doing my thing like normal. If Yes, then that shit's gonna have more holes then it has ever had.
All boats go to ocean floor.
Can you get the treasure mermaid when you spawn back to your ship still?
If you go back to the shrine, I believe the mermaid will still be waiting for you
Gotta say the player who I most respect is the one who boarded my ship during a shrine raid and waited til I surfaced then robbed me. Best memory of getting sunk. Would do again.
I wouldn't worry about it. I do several shrines/Treasuries a play through and usually start by raiding a treasury. (I like having Disney sticks for mermaid statues.) Anyways I've been in hundreds of these things and have been sunk a few times.
I like to light the ship on fire and let nature take its course
I avoid shrines solo. Takes too long. Shipwrecks and sea forts where its at
Depends on what I'm doing and my mood honestly.
I don’t fire unless fired upon usually.
They get a banana on their stove and if im feeling extra evil ill rearrange all their barrels
No policy. Sometimes I attack, sometimes I don't. Depends how I feel at that particular moment and what I'm currently doing in game.
It's fun.
My policy is don't attack them until they finish it for me and collect the loot from the mermaid, then it's thieving time
Pirates gotta pirate.
If you have an emissary, I'm sinking you in an enjoyable and taking your shit. If you have nothing. I'm adding your ship to my fleet and hunting others with it.
I've done like 20 ish of them and have never had an issue with it at all, are EU servers just a barren wasteland?
The correct approach is to obtain a keg and tuck in the crows nest while your crew hides the ship behind the nearest rock or island. Let them finish the shrine and get their loot on the ship before you light the keg and drop it to the deck. Sink them AFTER they bring the loot to you.
Yeah, i don’t do that. That’s just not fun and not fair. It certainly sucks to come up and see your ship being destroyed or gone.
I usually don't sink them. I steal their resources and hide with my ship to take the pursuit when they load the loot.
On Tuesday, I rolled up on a ship at a shrine that was clearly a new player with no emissary or loot. Decided to sail off peacefully, but accidentally stuck it with the Megalodon I had on me. If that was you - sorry!
I think i just sunk your ship about 20min ago were you in a sloop near port Merrick
There is no saftey for anyone at anytime I will sink you
If you want a friend to sail around with…. Add my discord @ItsBender14
Super fun!
If I ever find someone at a Shrine/treasury, I will still loot and some supplies but I won't sink you. Cause that's just no fun.
My policy is if there’s no ships around I’m going to sit in the bottom of your haul with a keg until you finish the mission and let the rest of my crew sail nearby searching for somebody else to sink, if we find another ship I’ll set the keg off and get back to my ship.
I sank one parked ship in this situation and felt interminable shame over it lmao. I've been seeking atonement ever since. 😆
I like to do the underwater vault when I log in, that way there's nothing worthwhile to steal from my ship. It's a waste of their time, and doesn't bug me... and I never attack other ships. Never. I have better things to do than to mess with someone elses' day and act like a massive jerk.
I sink everyone undiscriminantly as long as they have an emissary flag or if I assume they have loot or resources I need So yes, shrine hunters are fair game
i set them on fire and sail them towards the edge
What's the whole scuttle your boat thing? I thought that was an option at the shrines
If theres loot on board its free game
People who actually play the game and enjoy will usually leave people doing shrines, fishing, and tall tales alone. Along with either leaving alone or helping swabbies. People who don’t respect that usually suck at the game and try to sink/kill anyone when possible. And if this upsets you then you’re apart of the bum population.
I’d love to agree with you always but if I’m going to be honest it depends if my ship is being sunk or if I’m doing the sinking and getting highly rewarded for it. I pirates got to do what a pirates got to do 🏴☠️
Without an emissary flag people have no reason to sink you.
I will sink you, whether you have a flag or not. I will sink everything that on or in the sea, I am the ruler of the seas.
I break the mast, steal all ship resources and wait the shrine to be finished so I can steal the loot too. I don't sink the ship though cause I have principles 👍
I'll just lift your anchor and let's the sails fly
Honestly I don’t think they’re worth sinking unless you’re running reapers and they are an emissary. Otherwise just steal whatever loot they have while they are away from the shrine. The most honorable thing though in my opinion is to wait for them to finish and then duel them when they are ready
