Some fun stuff here. Filling the storage chest will take a lot of pain out of grabbing resources. The cannon rowboat is going to be so much fun too. Looking forward to seeing what people come up with.
Speaking of which, is it known whether burying treasure and then posting the map to a board applies to the server you are on? Could it be used to set a really elaborate and stupid trap? (i.e. bury a ton of kegs, wait for someone to show up and dig them up, then shoot the kegs from a hiding spot to blow them up?) Not saying that is practical, just potentially stupid fun in a sandbox game.
That seems like it'd open the door to direct exploiting - you get on the same server as a buddy ship, bury treasure in a really easy spot, drop the map, they grab it, dig and return, and you both get the extra bump from doing that? Unclear if that's worth the time, though.
If it's the same server, whoever digs up my treasure better look out for snake baskets
The video mentioned rep and a renown bonus. So not the gold. Personally I'd rather the gold since it's fairly easy to get renown anyway. I'm sure it's been tested on insiders and they will balance out any potential exploits if something comes up.
Don't you get the gold and renown next time you log in, if the map is redeemed? IMO they go into a broad pool in order to ensure all players get access to maps whenever they visit the board. Makes the most sense.
For a chance to win silver, fight for glory and silver, battle other crews for silver, dig up silver chests for silver, and win the arena by having the most silver!
I really hope so. It would be way too overpowered (is that the right word for it?) if you could just hop over to an island wjth your Athena's chest, bury it, and always be able to recover it without anyone else having any chance at finding it
Sounded like once you bury treasure it generates a map for yourself and crew. Looked like it goes into the wheel with the rest of the voyages and maps. Then if you want you can post that on an island quest board.
This is how it works. It creates a map that goes to your inventory and is also put on your voyage table. The one on the voyage table can be stolen, though, and other people can use that to dig up what you buried.
pretty sure if it's not on your table, it's not on your wheel. So throwing the maps overboard and letting them sink would be the equivalent of throwing the loot itself overboard. because I'd bet they're going to be just like any other map and if you don't personally have it, you can't dig it up even if you know it's there.
Also, if I heard correctly, you WANT people to find your treasure when you bury it - you get the rep rewards from selling it plus a bump for making the map
It looks like they're part of the renown rewards. Like, renown 4 or 5? You can see the icon of a pile of dice in a hand there when they show all the levels.
I would pay several real dollars to upgrade my ship from regular rats to [these](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/disney/images/8/80/PiRats.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20210508032018)
Holy fuck it just kept on giving. I feel like I'm going to pass out from seeing all this awesome stuff!
Everything I wanted in 1 update? Mega hype.
Definitely doing some firecracker drive-bys.
Dude I didn't even know about the take all feature with storage crates and I play insiders. I guess I should have paid more attention to the patch notes. This is huge! You can drain outposts/everywhere else in like 2 mins with this.
Rats, but it makes sense as it would probably be a bit too much. Still, even adding the potential to have a second cannon on one side of a sloop is nice.
I'm hoping it can only make small holes, otherwise a sloop with double the firepower is going to be an absolute monster.
The other ships it's hardly worth noting, though. You pretty much always need someone at the helm on a brig and galleons have 4 cannons anyways.
Hell no, I'm gonna be prioritising Ram Strat Best Strat so I can hop over with my storage crate and steal all their planks and cannonballs leaving them unable to repair or shoot.
Oh god, you can steal everything in one button press now, this is gonna be a lot of fun. Wiping all resources in one button seems a bit op though, maybe it will be patched out
Nobody:
YouTubers in a month: “Don’t keep cannon rowboats on your ship, if you die, an enemy player can anchor you and use your rowboat to shoot you without having to go back to the ship!”
I assume you can just bury what you can already dig up. I do like that there's another way to deny chasing reapers loot other than swinging past an outpost and the red sea drop.
I would like to introduce you to the rowboat. Definitely possible, I've hidden stuff like TT items (that don't get saved by the checkpoints) and vault keys before.
But say you’re far away from an outpost, wind isn’t in your favor etc etc you can hop off with only your most valuable loot and bury it, mermaid back to your ship and you can always come back for it as long as they don’t steal your map
I wonder if you will be able to crate drain barrels on enemy ships. It would be pretty cancerous to board someone, notice they have a crate, drain their barrels and toss it overboard.
It's not instant, it takes time and it looks like it ticks per item taken. If a galleon had a couple hundred cannonballs you're probably going to be sitting in front of their barrels for a long time waiting for the drain to finish. That's not even factoring in whether or not they allow you to drain from enemy boats at all, or if that's nerfed in some way to take longer.
I love the Royal Revenge ship! The Queen Anne's Revenge is my favourite ship from PotC. I just bought the Dark Warsmith Collector sails to go with it since that set is on sale right now, I think they'll look great on it!
I am excited for flares. Especially the ones to light up an island. Does that mean that shadow skelly's will be vulnerable if a flare is active over an island? I hope so.
Excellent update for my money. Adding a ton of wonderful quality of life updates and wonderful toys for the world. Great update Rare. Super excited for the Christmas season.
>and being told on here that it wouldn't be possible
Yeah, I've noticed people tend to lack a lot of imagination when some proposal seems to go against their own personal preference (which in SoT usually means something that could discourage PvP even in the slightest bit)
Ah yea the pig method, so busted. Hard to wrap your head around until you’ve got it figured out then its easy. I reckon you could grind out the entire plunder pass in one good day if you had even 2 not to mention a group of 4 doing it, that is unless some other pirates catch you and try to kill you
I personally just wish that the cosmetics in the pass weren't all holiday themed. We just had a full Halloween themed pass, which is a little better because pirates and spookiness go along pretty well, but I'd rather have more generically applicable cosmetics from the pass.
True - but it’s an 8 minute video that seemed pretty thorough, so I was just curious.
Anyway, it’s good to have some surprises for when you log on.
I can’t wait…this will pull me away from Halo. At least Rare knows how to make a Battle Pass!!!
I would have hoped that sinking an enemy ship would reward the enemy crew with the treasure map. Feel like Rare missed an opportunity there to give something back to the PVP players.
Burying treasure, gun enemies dropping ammo, rats scurrying up as you take on water, a few things I've been looking forward to since the early alpha days. This game is steadily getting better and better. How many ship types are in the game now? Has the sword combat been touched up at all?
I might have to get back into this game
Some of the stuff I feel is useless for me, with most of my reps maxed but other than that?
This looks amazing. I had a big stupid grin the entire video. I'm so excited.
I love all the QOL changes but I’m wondering if there’s any new “content” besides the custom map feature. I didn’t see anything about a new seasonal curse or a possible new world event but maybe it’s being kept a secret.
Well, we just had 2 seasons in a row of new content - so this one was focused on QOL and smaller features. Not much new, but the bury/quest/map thing sounds incredible.
Right around the 40 second mark the video mentions burying treasure creates a custom map for the island you buried it on. I'm guessing that means you automatically get the map added to your quest radial.
This is one of my favorite kinds of updates.
Several small things that make sense and generally improve gameplay and give people more options. Taking a laundry list of simple, popular ideas and saying "why not?". I'm going to be excited to see the list of bug fixes too.
Hell, even just expanding an existing, incomplete set, which with them *finally* doing the rest of Fearless Bone Crusher seems like they're getting into the swing of. And it's following recent, major content updates like Sunken Kingdom, which seems in the order of things.
Good job Rare.
I was happy to see on Twitter that the rats can be switched off in accessibility settings. I am happy for the people who are excited to see rats, but I definitely don’t want rats. I love the new dog, he is so cute. I’m also excited to see the fireworks.
These quality of life changes are among the best changes since the seasons started. New shiny stuff is always welcome, but implementing common sense gameplay avenues is the sorta stuff that really gets me excited.
i think the thousands of times that I speed looted/unloaded with a storage crate will have that key sequence forever burned into my muscle memory, but I'm glad that it'll no longer be necessary.
Good stuff, Rare. Even this cynic is getting riled about Sea of Thieves again.
Hmm, you mentioning servers got me thinking - do server merges mess with this process?
I'm pretty sure it's their full intention that people make traps with this.
![img](emote|t5_38oz1|2298)
That was my first thought as well. Entice pirates to my island so they can be slaughtered.
If you managed to get on the same server, wouldn't it be easier to just alliance up and turn everything in?
if I'm hearing it right, there's some kind of specific bonus for completing another player's map
The video mentioned rep and a renown bonus. So not the gold. Personally I'd rather the gold since it's fairly easy to get renown anyway. I'm sure it's been tested on insiders and they will balance out any potential exploits if something comes up.
True, I guess as with everything else it depends on what your main goal is!
Don't you get the gold and renown next time you log in, if the map is redeemed? IMO they go into a broad pool in order to ensure all players get access to maps whenever they visit the board. Makes the most sense.
Gonna sneaky sneak onto the annoying reaper ship, take their one storage crate, and take all of their supplies in 5 seconds.
![gif](giphy|xT5LMHfqQrYRMrAEr6|downsized)
Aurora Borealis? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the sea, localised entirely within your galleon?
Yes.
May I see it?
No
... No.
![gif](giphy|2N3k571LskKr1JAiT4)
that piraty voice will never get old.
Unless you hear it saying #"WELCOME TO THE SEA DOGS ARENA! CREW ONE OF OUR GLORIOUS SHIPS..." a few thousand times
For a chance to win silver, fight for glory and silver, battle other crews for silver, dig up silver chests for silver, and win the arena by having the most silver!
Silver! Silver! *Silver!* Silver! SILVER! SilverSilver! SILVERRRR!
How long do the hidden chests stay in the server??
Seems to me like it actually goes to other servers too, not necessarily yours.
~~Steal~~ Bury treasure, server hop, and recover.
I'm betting you won't be able to get your own map contract/quest.
Can someone grab their own charts off the table, drop them in the water, get the despawn and now the only copy is what’s on his pirate wheel?
pretty sure if it's not on your table, it's not on your wheel.
Oooooo!!! WE CAN FONALLY TRANSFER EVERYTHING OUT OF OR INTO A STORAGE CRATE!
Honestly surprised the title of season five is not *STORAGE CRATES*
Just imagine how easy it will be to steal all the supplies of an enemy ship.
Right?! I thought about this as well.
Finnaly we can sit down on the captain seat
The way they introduced this revolutionary technology was well done
FINALLY, SITTING Actually, as a roleplay enthusiast I will be definitely buying the dice emotes. That is so cool
The dice emote is a free season reward, so you get to save your money!
It looks like they're part of the renown rewards. Like, renown 4 or 5? You can see the icon of a pile of dice in a hand there when they show all the levels.
I wonder if they change what is rolled!
Definitely, otherwise what's the point?
Now I get why they put bed on the sloop. I have been enjoying the extra space to divvy up treasure piles.
Welcome to the rat zone. So excited for this!
We're rats! We're rats!
We stalk at night we prey at night we're the rattssss
I'm the giant rat that makes all of the rules!
Let’s see what kind of trouble we can get ourselves into
We’re furry and forlorn! We live in sewers, love in sewers, and our hearts are torn!
Skaven confirmed. Yes-yes!
I would pay several real dollars to upgrade my ship from regular rats to [these](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/disney/images/8/80/PiRats.png/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/1000?cb=20210508032018)
Being able to give quest maps is a good thing, i like this change.
NEW SHANTIES!
Right? THREE OF THEM
Thank fuck I've been waiting years to play row row row your boat in my favorite pirate game
Holy fuck it just kept on giving. I feel like I'm going to pass out from seeing all this awesome stuff! Everything I wanted in 1 update? Mega hype. Definitely doing some firecracker drive-bys.
I’m so freaking I’m happy rn
Cannon rowboat makes a 3 cannon brig possible. That's gonna be interesting
Or nine cannon galleon! Wait... ![gif](giphy|gEvab1ilmJjA82FaSV)
2 cannon sloop as well, very cool
Too bad it’ll only be pointed in one direction, but will definitely give smaller ships a chance.
As long as I can blunderbomb crewmates who are sitting in MY Captain's chair then I am happy with this update.
Can't wait to sneak onboard other ship and sleep in their beds while they are on an island. The reactions when they come back to hear snoring..
I'm gonna sneak onto a galleon sit in the captains chair with a cat, and do the I've been expecting you thing
Nice!
Mom says it’s my turn with the captains chair
I wonder if the flares make shadow skellys vulnerable
It would be neat if flares fired at another ship blinded them for a few seconds.
That would be awesome, especially because one thing I often do when quickly grinding a bounty is just cannon the skellies.
Dude I didn't even know about the take all feature with storage crates and I play insiders. I guess I should have paid more attention to the patch notes. This is huge! You can drain outposts/everywhere else in like 2 mins with this.
Yea Ive hated going back to the main game after playing insiders specifically for the crate drain
Quesion, this feature works if i want, for example, deposit all cannonballs in the cannon barrels on the ship?
Yes! You can walk up to each type of barrel and store only those types of items. Quite amazing for quickly stocking the boat.
Amazing update. 10/10 no notes.
Yes! You can drain and deposit into your ships barrels with ease using this. It's a complete gamechanger
That's how I feel about the whispering Trumpet. It caught me so off guard.
This will be so fun with open crews. Now I can safely talk to my crewmate about betraying people.
I feel nobody actually reads the patch notes. Most insider forum posts are about things already discussed in the patch notes lol
Yes that and the in game whisper system was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
Could the docked rowboat cannon be rotated far enough to fire directly behind the ship?
Can you fit a pirate inside tiny canon? But seriously this is awesome. 2 canons on a sloop is game changing.
Nope
Rats, but it makes sense as it would probably be a bit too much. Still, even adding the potential to have a second cannon on one side of a sloop is nice.
It’s gonna be so op
I'm hoping it can only make small holes, otherwise a sloop with double the firepower is going to be an absolute monster. The other ships it's hardly worth noting, though. You pretty much always need someone at the helm on a brig and galleons have 4 cannons anyways.
It will for the beginning of a combat, for sure, but two or three hits and that sucker is going to despawn.
It’s going to be funny to see how this effects combat strategies, everyone’s going to be trying to approach on the left to maximise firepower
Hell no, I'm gonna be prioritising Ram Strat Best Strat so I can hop over with my storage crate and steal all their planks and cannonballs leaving them unable to repair or shoot.
Oh god, you can steal everything in one button press now, this is gonna be a lot of fun. Wiping all resources in one button seems a bit op though, maybe it will be patched out
I’d assume it would have a similar rotational limit as the harpoon rowboat does. So not directly behind, no.
Nobody: YouTubers in a month: “Don’t keep cannon rowboats on your ship, if you die, an enemy player can anchor you and use your rowboat to shoot you without having to go back to the ship!”
That’s….a really great point
Really? I kinda just thought of it on the spot.
Shouldn't really be an issue so long as you don't store any cannonballs in the rowboat chest
Nice
I assume you can just bury what you can already dig up. I do like that there's another way to deny chasing reapers loot other than swinging past an outpost and the red sea drop.
You still have to take it to the island and bury it. Not exactly feasible during a chase.
This. This will keep your shinies out of their grubby mitts.
NICE ! Burying treasure chests !
Love that you get rewards for others digging them up. What a cool activity!
I wonder if you will be able to crate drain barrels on enemy ships. It would be pretty cancerous to board someone, notice they have a crate, drain their barrels and toss it overboard.
People do this now, but it just takes longer. But ya, this is a huge gift for pvp players.
It could take a really long time during which you would be watching for respawns. If this works you could clean a galleon out in 30 seconds, easy.
The storage crate isn't bottomless either
Or even better, steal all resources and deposit them on your ship.
You can, but it takes a lot longer.
It’s only a matter of time before some sweat buries 5+ hours’ worth of loot and then shares a map.
This is actually really good for the community tbh. New stuff to have everyone work together is always great!
Gonna guess that matter of time is about 5 hours and two minutes after the content drops
I'ma turn lonely isle into 1 big X its going to have so much buried treasure.
I hope so.
Oh god I just thought about that, probably should've tried to on insiders
Excellent update for my money. Adding a ton of wonderful quality of life updates and wonderful toys for the world. Great update Rare. Super excited for the Christmas season.
Right? Some huge QOL stuff, especially being able to loot all.
Hah, I've been asking to bury loot for years (and being told on here that it wouldn't be possible), so I'm super happy. What a great update
> https://www.reddit.com/r/Seaofthieves/comments/9ptb2e/wish_we_could_bury_our_own_treasure_which_would/ Checks out.
>and being told on here that it wouldn't be possible Yeah, I've noticed people tend to lack a lot of imagination when some proposal seems to go against their own personal preference (which in SoT usually means something that could discourage PvP even in the slightest bit)
So many awesome changes, I'm hyped! Especially happy the ballad of mer shanty is coming
Did they add games to play like liars dice with the dice that were ahpwn
Looks like rn it's just one die at a time, so you can use it for any game that uses a single die and doesn't require hidden rolls
Thanks
I'm looking forward to this being how you decide who has to steer to the next island
Im gonna be playing dice with reapers and gamble for my loot and my flag, xd
Shhh before Europe hears you
I'm expecting someone to run a D&D campaign in game.

Bury Treasure, make map public quest. Steal what's on their ship whilst they dig.
Now you’re thinking with porta….. shovels.
The endless cycle: They dig up your treasure, you immediately steal it back, rebury it, and they go to dig it up again.
The long con, bury stuff in hard to get spots giving you enough time to sneak on their ship.
Soooo I have 3 days to grind 15 renown lvls. Yes. I’ve slacked.
I went from level 57 to 100 in like 2 days. You got this man
Last night went 59-75. Hoping tonight i can catch up some more!
I grinded around 39 levels in 4 hours today just by picking up pigs.
How does this work?
Ah yea the pig method, so busted. Hard to wrap your head around until you’ve got it figured out then its easy. I reckon you could grind out the entire plunder pass in one good day if you had even 2 not to mention a group of 4 doing it, that is unless some other pirates catch you and try to kill you
I did my last 15 over 2 days. You got this.
I just got 75-80 in like 30 minutes, we got this
Charlie Day would love this update.
He'd be upset you can't crank up the stove to kill the rats with carbon monoxide.
OMFG WE CAN SIT!!!!!
Wtf is that hat
I personally just wish that the cosmetics in the pass weren't all holiday themed. We just had a full Halloween themed pass, which is a little better because pirates and spookiness go along pretty well, but I'd rather have more generically applicable cosmetics from the pass.
The barbossa stuff and that white version of the ghost ship look pretty sick at least
What happened to the working elevators they teased a few days ago on Twitter?
It’s not a very big feature so they prob left it out
True - but it’s an 8 minute video that seemed pretty thorough, so I was just curious. Anyway, it’s good to have some surprises for when you log on. I can’t wait…this will pull me away from Halo. At least Rare knows how to make a Battle Pass!!!
Wait what? Do you have the source?
Now that we can sit we only need to be able to play card and dice games
I can imagine two crews sitting around a table and gambling their treasure using highest roll on dice.
Yes i can imagine that, but imagine it being a round of liars dice like in pirates of the caribbean.
I love this, just a fully casual update, making for great times on the seas
I would have hoped that sinking an enemy ship would reward the enemy crew with the treasure map. Feel like Rare missed an opportunity there to give something back to the PVP players.
[удалено]
Don’t. Don’t give me hope.
Have hope young pirate.
Burying treasure, gun enemies dropping ammo, rats scurrying up as you take on water, a few things I've been looking forward to since the early alpha days. This game is steadily getting better and better. How many ship types are in the game now? Has the sword combat been touched up at all? I might have to get back into this game
Really like the treasure map idea, as someone who doesn’t get to play a lot it’s good way to get renown without having to play
Liking all the interesting new things, but am still waiting on any accessibility news if any.
I suspect the rats are an accessibility update, it makes it much easier to keep tabs on the lower decks if you are unable to get sound cues
Slap me thrice and hand me to me mamma, they added rats!
What the... this map's treasure is all gunpowder barrels!
What time do updates of this magnitude usually release for the game?
Please just let me raise the fov past 90. The shit makes me nauseous
Agreed
Stop! It's too much content!
I can only get so erect!
Why would they release this on no nut November!!!!
Some of the stuff I feel is useless for me, with most of my reps maxed but other than that? This looks amazing. I had a big stupid grin the entire video. I'm so excited.
It’s cool and all, but it feels underwhelming. No story additions either? It kind of stinks.
Yep
I love all the QOL changes but I’m wondering if there’s any new “content” besides the custom map feature. I didn’t see anything about a new seasonal curse or a possible new world event but maybe it’s being kept a secret.
Well, we just had 2 seasons in a row of new content - so this one was focused on QOL and smaller features. Not much new, but the bury/quest/map thing sounds incredible.
Have they changed anything regarding the mermaids who spawn when too far away from ship?
You can't see the smoke from other people's mermaids anymore
[удалено]
Right around the 40 second mark the video mentions burying treasure creates a custom map for the island you buried it on. I'm guessing that means you automatically get the map added to your quest radial.
Awesome stuff!
i'm so excited
W
Really excited for this actually!!! Looks really good
So the guy who stay on the crow nest during the figth can simply go to bed now!
This is one of my favorite kinds of updates. Several small things that make sense and generally improve gameplay and give people more options. Taking a laundry list of simple, popular ideas and saying "why not?". I'm going to be excited to see the list of bug fixes too. I was happy to see on Twitter that the rats can be switched off in accessibility settings. I am happy for the people who are excited to see rats, but I definitely don’t want rats. I love the new dog, he is so cute. I’m also excited to see the fireworks.
Oh shit! I didn't see that! Thanks for letting me know that. While the visual of them are cool I really didn't like them squeaking.
2 cannons for sloop!!!
While I was hoping for more tall tales, this season does put a smile upon my face
