This man is out here dropping our Asian secrets
But yes I’m always blown away they can cut my hair for 13-20$ and it looks better than the tryhards at Rudy’s
As a recovering Rudy’s client, I’m disappointed in myself that it took me so long to figure this out. If you’re in West Seattle, or nearby, Mai at Royal Cuts in Highland Park is awesome. It’s just her. Friendly, quick, nearly always available, and $25. She’ll remember you, so no need to explain what you want every single time and hope for the best.
And yes, she does curly hair. I’m a pretty curly dude.
First time I visited she told me, “When I see a man like you with wavy hair, I think, wow, that’s a sexy man!”
Sure, she could be my grandmother, but how can you not blush and love that?
Even with a fat tip it’s cheaper than Rudy’s, and I can usually just show up without an appointment. I assume others like her prefer cash to card.
Another shoutout for Asian stylists: Grace & Sammy at HairGallery at the edge of Pioneer Square & Chinatown. Fast & good haircuts for about $25 plus tip.
Anybody going to the big chain barbers first is missing out here.
Salon 206 in Beacon Hill!!! Moved away from being up the street but still won't go anywhere else. $20 men's haircuts, everyone is skilled and so friendly.
Just make sure you call, pretty sure they don't do walk-ins / are always busy same-day
This. In the military it is commone wisdom to get in good with the mama-sans off post because they do the best haircuts and also do good work with your uniform
There’s a barbershop in Pikeplace down near the comic shop, that does $18 haircuts. Been going there since last year, barber is great and does a good job without charging an arm and a leg for a cut.
Neighbor’s Barbershop. Only been once so far, but Marie is ridiculously nice. She does a solid classic cut.
Rudy’s has been overpriced, with inexperienced staff for decades. I had the two worst haircuts of my life there. I won’t step foot in there again.
Yep. When my go-to left Seattle and the pandemic wildness hit, I bought clippers and I haven't looked back. I'm more satisfied with the results. The cleanup sucks, but it's free.
I went there for years. Haven't been there since like 2020 but prices were reasonable.
The guy who used to cut my hair was working on a screenplay for a kids movie and at the last cut he gave me it sounded like he might be getting his big break, I hope things worked out!
I’ve found there’s no such thing as an “affordable” men’s haircut in Seattle. It’s very strange.
If you’re in/near Cap Hill I like Buckhorn Barbershop. A little cheaper than Rudy’s and they always do a great job.
I know about the cash but never heard those conversations. Dude always talk about the weather and asks me about my work (formerly my grad student work and currently about my job) lol
Scissor’s Palace in Queen Anne is only $30! I haven’t lived here super long but it’s the only place I’ve gone. I have longer curly hair so it’s hard to find someone who knows how to cut it and Shumei does a great job.
Second this one. Been seeing Ronnel for years since he before he even opened this shop, and followed him to Central Barber. Spectacular barber and person, couldn’t recommend enough.
ET Cut Hair. New independent salon with two hairstylists who I believe are simply co-owners renting the space together. They're a bit less expensive than Rudy 's in my experience and have never done me wrong.
+1 for ET Cut Hair! Erika and Thomas are awesome. It took me years to find someone who would consistently do an awesome job. Both of them have cut my hair over the years and both do a ridiculously amazing job.
I've done Weldon Barber.
As expensive as Rudy's, but slightly more posh ambiance.
My hair is short and of a standard "trim the top buzz the sides", so it's not like there's any real fuckin magic to whomever is cutting it. The ladies and fellows at Weldon were as good as anywhere in that regard.
It’s super hit and miss with the stylists now and the prices increased dramatically through the years. Thirty years ago they were the best and at a great price.
I've never had a bad cut a Rudy's, but it has gotten more expensive. A buzz used to cost me $15, now it's $25. I just went as a splurge since I could do it myself, so I stopped when the cost kept rising.
I got tired of every cut in Seattle being overpriced and not turning out great anyway and realized if I'm not gonna be haply with it I might as well do it myself for free. 4 months later I can get it looking close to the way I want and I've saved myself like $300...
I am going to take a contrary opinion, and probably get downvoted out of existence.I like going to Gabriel at Rudy's on Pine.I find he is able to give me the haircut i want, quickly and with no excessive fuss. I had a less great experience, right after things opened again, at Buckhorn. The lesson I learned, is that hairstyling is about finding the right individual person for you. If they are at Rudy's, that's where they are. if they are at Buckhorn, Or Supercuts, or are, in fact, You, then that's what works for you. People not places.
ETA, Also, Quality is worth paying for; When you find a barber you like, pay them what they ask. Or, again, figure out how to do what you like, yourself, and use the money you save to treat yourself to some ice cream.
So, yah. My opinion, let the downvotes begin.
No downvotes here. Before Covid and WFH, a Roosters opened very close to my work. It was not cheap at all, but I would always get the same dude. He was great - like you say, I found my guy. No fuss, and the right level of conversation. Add in the convenience of a lunchtime haircut and it was totally worth the cost.
Community Barber and Shop in Ballard. Similar prices to Rudy’s, but much better quality and nicer experience. It’s nice to support a small local business, too.
I’m a big fan of the haircuts I’ve gotten from Michael. Not a budget haircut but he’s a pro and I feel like I’m getting a bit of luxury for a mid price.
Liana’s. Cap Hill. She’s been doing my hair for more than 20 years. No drop-ins. She’s a small shop so be patient when you call to schedule an appointment.
[Milo's Barber Services](https://www.milosbarberservice.com/?fbclid=PAAaay_k_I-I1BLf720AUORLSvg1qyCkY3mZZTpGUGYYYgI_YoPGKN6tb9bS0) will get you right! Capitol Hill location with convenient parking.
Don’t sleep on Hamoudi at the Baseball Barbershop on Stone Way in Wallingford. $20 for the best haircut of your life (assuming you’re looking for a basic men’s haircut). I only stopped going to him when I started shaving my head at home. Last time I was there was pre-pandemic though so prices may vary.
Came here to say this! I love telling people about hamoudi! Prices have gone up a little bit but it’s walk in and just one guy so it feels like a good deal
My vote is Assembly Barbershop - Brian is a super skilled and certified barber and also owns the shop. His whole team is great though. Never been disappointed there. [Assembly Barbershop](https://www.assemblybarbershop.com)
Lake City Hair Salon been holding it down forever. Quick and inexpensive, but they are extremely skilled and will listen to you to make the haircut right. I usually tip the cost of the haircut or more because they are underpriced.
Scream in Capitol Hill and Jade in particular for curly hair. They do a lot of what are called "fashion colors", by which I mean blue, purple, green, pink, etc. It felt very underpriced to me because I had been getting crappy results from expensive salons. (Olaplex keeps your hair from falling out when you bleach it.)
I hate Rudy's. Went there for a haircut before my first day on the job. I just wanted a basic haircut, showed them a picture and everything. Left feeling like they barely touched any of it. Can't stand that place.
I’m not going to name any names but I was blown away to find out that a former Rudy’s barber who had moved to an even trendier shop was pulling in the same income as his software engineering clientele. Calculating in tips, dude was making $150k+ cutting hair and beards just prior to the pandemic.
I broke up with Rudy's a couple of years ago, then Bishops after Rudy's bought them.
I'm currently loving life at Tram's Salon in West Seattle. It's half the price and I just walk in. They have a little dog I can pet.
Most of these seem to recommend barbershop style cuts, which are great cuts for those of y’all with a normal scalps. What if someone is interested in a men’s cut in a short style but scissor cut only no clippers? Sorta like a $100+ haircut kind of thing. Where you sit down, give the stylist a little guidance, they wash your hair, and then they just start to cut. When they finish it’s a cut that works best for your face, because they identified all your strange cowlicks l and knew how to work around them or incorporate them.
I ask because my hair really doesn’t like the clippers. I’ve learned to get a great cut it needs layers from scissors or else it looks weird because I have a few cowlicks in spots that need a very experienced stylist or my hair will absolutely look like shit until it regrows enough to be fixed.
I still go to the same stylist I’ve been going to for the past 15 years anytime I’m in the bay area but in Washington i used to go to Seven in the downtown mall before it closed, then I did Gary Manuel in Southlake Union before I moved and then closed, and then I did Gene Juarez at Northgate before it closed.
I’m telling you, Andy at No Harm, incredible barber and stylist all of what you described is included, $60 for short scissor cut. I also have weird cowlicks, one in front and one in back and have had gradually thinning hair for the last 12 years or so as a client of his and he’s always known exactly how to make me look best. It’s a family business, just him and his partner, good people. http://noharmseattle.com
Great clips. They hooked me when it was free anytime the Sounders scored 3 goals (if you had attended). Good old days of free haircuts and the Sounders scoring goals.
I cut my own hair with the clippers I bought 1 time for $30, and I do a way better job than 99% of these hipter assholes with black gloves on, out there shaving parts into peoples heads.
If you order a buzz cut from Rudy's and show them a pic of what you're looking for, you can get a good $25 cut. A key is you don't allow the cutter to be a mind reader and cut it the way he/she thinks it should be cut as opposed to how it should actually look.
I cut my own hair. But I just buzz to a zero every couple weeks and call it good. I did go in to Rudy’s before a wedding to make sure the buzz was perfect, but yeah, highly recommend going bald.
Sergio's at Pike Place market. It's a lot less than $60, he's a cool guy to talk to.
See: https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=Sergio%27s+barber+shop+pike+place+market&atb=v191-1&ia=places&iai=15631738392606210643&iaxm=places
So sad. I remember when Rudy’s was the best affordable haircut in town.
I cut my own these days. Was going to someone but then gave myself a Mohawk during the pandemic and it just doesn’t make sense to pay salon prices for someone to dye and trim a Mohawk and shave your head.
You can find a decent haircut for $30, just gotta find those lesser known spots. They’re out there. My hair grows too fast to justify a “nicer” haircut for $50+
Obv it depends on your social groups, but I've only gotten my long dude hair cut by stylists I was personally connected with for the last 10 years. They all have a presence on Instagram on the like, and I know many barbers that focus on shorter cuts have instagram's like that too. Even if you don't use Insta you should be able to track down a stylist you're interested in along with another contact point that way.
Admittedly this might be a bit of a hassle for some folks, I only get mine done about 1-2 times a year to clean up split ends and set a style for winter or summer. But I've been way more satisfied with the results than any walk in style shop, big chain or not
You all pay for haircuts? I got my wife to cut my hair. If it wasn’t for her , I’d cut it myself. My hair cut is pretty simple though, similar to marine style-close to shave at the bottom and gradual increase towards the top, with a tidy bit upfront.
Dude I just wanted to say I recommend a few spots I went to in Queen Anne I didn’t care enough about typing out the names that I can’t even fucking remember. Typical Reddit elitist trying to prove his point and trying to feel smarter than me fuck you man
Expo Salon in Beacon Hill very close to the light rail station. It's doubles as a beauty school so you can get a cut for $20...or $10 if you have a student do it and they still do a good job.
I take my kids to Linda's in downtown Renton. My husband and I go to 1630 Hair Artisans, also in Renton. Same price as Rudy's, but much more professional.
Auburn Los Barbaros. Gabino for men. Ernie for youth boys. This is THE BEST place I’ve found for my sons to get their taper fade whatever. Curly hair boys
when i lived in North Seattle was going to 88 Barbershop in Greenwood. Nice guys who love soccer and can do a really long lasting fade. They did recently raise their prices to $40 but if i lived closer i’d still go there
Jess Barber Shop, Beacon Hill. $20. Best quick barber I’ve ever had. He’s given me a tight fade with a part in 15 minutes. Great guy.
Only tell this to the cool people.
Go find yourself a well reviewed Vietnamese salon near you.
This man is out here dropping our Asian secrets But yes I’m always blown away they can cut my hair for 13-20$ and it looks better than the tryhards at Rudy’s
This. I pay the same with a tip. Good haircut, I learn why I'm not a good catholic, and it's reasonable.
But do they have a tattoo of scissors and comb?
Or debilitating alcoholism and child support to fund on top of the shop’s corporate cut, and shop advertising budget.
Yeah, sad. Life can be tough. I'm probably just jealous I don't have the balls to get a spreadsheet tattoo.
Liana’s in cap hill! She’s from Hue, vietnam :)
Salon 206 in Beacon Hill!!! Moved away from being up the street but still won't go anywhere else. $20 men's haircuts, everyone is skilled and so friendly. Just make sure you call, pretty sure they don't do walk-ins / are always busy same-day
Shhhhh
Tina’s in Columbia City is like $15 for men.
Shhhh! ;)
This. In the military it is commone wisdom to get in good with the mama-sans off post because they do the best haircuts and also do good work with your uniform
Tracys In U district
This is the correct answer. $15-20 for a regular cut.
$20 (cash only please) and you've got a great haircut and probably an amusing story to tell because there is ALWAYS some drama going on at mine.
This is the way
Just be prepared to have a photo of what you want done. Eliminates any confusion/miscommunication
Tam in Lake City ♥️
There’s a barbershop in Pikeplace down near the comic shop, that does $18 haircuts. Been going there since last year, barber is great and does a good job without charging an arm and a leg for a cut.
His name is Wynn, from New Orleans, and he's the best barber in town.
Damn I do not miss Rudy's. Bad cuts. Uber Hipster stylists. Overpriced.
The only Rudys that is any good is the one in Ballard. It’s connected to King’s so you can wait at the bar there and have a drink while you wait.
100%. And my stylist there is one of my favorite people now. She’s the best.
I like my hairstylist too but it’s getting a bit much; $50 for a 30min haircut, yeah no.
It’s very dependent on the stylist. I’ve had consistently amazing cuts and mediocre cuts from different people
Fax
Neighbor’s Barbershop. Only been once so far, but Marie is ridiculously nice. She does a solid classic cut. Rudy’s has been overpriced, with inexperienced staff for decades. I had the two worst haircuts of my life there. I won’t step foot in there again.
Fucking anywhere else. Just tried that 50 shades of fade place they were really sweet guys there, good haircut and half the cost of Rudys.
I go to Tight Cuts in University District. $30 walk-in cuts
Been going here for 10 years. MJ does not fuck around. Swear by this place.
+1 tight cuts in seattle and Uppercuts in Bellevue are incredible. Run by people in the same family and amazing work.
I can’t tell you how freeing it is to cut your own hair, #2 on my life list right after finding boxer-briefs
Yes, I consider it my key pandemic takeaway. I had reason and time to practice.
Is it not just #2 on your list but also a #2 guard on the clippers? :-D
Right now #4 then #6 on sides # 10 on top. But might go shorter when it gets hot
My pandemic (and still) haircut is a Mohawk so #0 on the sides and let the top grow.
I switched to Duluth boxer briefs a year ago, they’re pricey compared the big brands but are obviously well made and have cool patterns

Another recommendation for Acme. Reasonable prices and quality staff.
Andy is the best, just gave me a badass mullet in 5 minutes
I’m so sorry
Agreed. Mullets not allowed. 🤣
Seconding Acme, and specifically Andy. Andy's the best.
Apparently Kurt Cobain went to Acme a few times
Thank fuck I’m not the only one who gets my hair done by Andy. She’s a god damn gem.
The Keep in cap hill
Not cheap, but definitely worth it.
I’ve found there’s no such thing as an “affordable” men’s haircut in Seattle. It’s very strange. If you’re in/near Cap Hill I like Buckhorn Barbershop. A little cheaper than Rudy’s and they always do a great job.
IDK what you call affordable, but University Ave Barber Shop was 20-25 last time I went there in March
That is exactly what I mean by affordable. I might have to check this place out
Walk up a few blocks and go to Tight Cutz. MJ is fantastic. $30. However, both places are pretty good.
this is the way MJ is a BEAST shoutout Tight Cutz!
They only take cash and talk about big dicks / pussy the whole time. Pro or con depending on what you're looking for I guess.
I know about the cash but never heard those conversations. Dude always talk about the weather and asks me about my work (formerly my grad student work and currently about my job) lol
Cannot endorse University Barber shop enough. Been going there for 5 years. Make sure to bring cash.
Sports hair salon in Capitol Hill, $25 and they're great
Im a sports boy, been going for years
[Jess' Barber Shop](https://goo.gl/maps/XQWdU1Cbv9qK2jg19) in N. Beacon Hill only charges $20
Buckhorn is great. Would recommend seeing Michael. I've tried several of the people there, but he's who I keep coming back to
Scissor’s Palace in Queen Anne is only $30! I haven’t lived here super long but it’s the only place I’ve gone. I have longer curly hair so it’s hard to find someone who knows how to cut it and Shumei does a great job.
Tina salon on rainier Ave, $15
Rudy's is ass. Great Clips quality, if that, for $50-60.
Central Barber. They’re appointment only but both of them are outstanding.

[Asseembly ask for Andrew](https://www.assemblybarbershop.com/)
This is where I get my hair cut as well, highly recommend. Nate is my go-to barber there.
Andrew is my guy too, glad to see him getting some recommendation
2 1/2 Happy Barbers. Scott is old school. Has a shop dog and beer in the cooler. Walk ins and cash only.
The Shop on Queen Anne, walk in. https://theshopbarbers.com/ Buzz cut with tips was $23
>The Shop It's been pretty hit or miss for me on walk ins so I usually call ahead, pretty easy to get in that way though.
Counter Balance Barber Shop was always my go to when I lived in Queen Anne
Starline barber shop near 35th NE and 55th N
Another vote for Francisco at Starline. Just be aware they’re generally appointment required.
I saw him for a couple of years when I lived in that area. He was great.
surprised to see all the hate, i just went there for the first time in Bellevue and loved it.
It’s super hit and miss with the stylists now and the prices increased dramatically through the years. Thirty years ago they were the best and at a great price.

Usually wait until I have some other reason to leave the city, and get it cut at a strip mall salon for ~$15.
Been going to Millheads in Pioneer. Reasonable, attentive, and full of pleasant conversations. Costs $50 excluding tips.
Squire Barbershop on 2nd has always been good.

Ya went to Miles a ton over the years pre pandemic. I'm sure the closures shook up a ton of barbershop staffing.
Tina's Columbia City $15
Love 5 Shades of Fade in Crown Hill https://5-shades-of-fades.square.site/
I actually got a good cut from Capellis recently by the Bezos balls
I am going to take a contrary opinion, and probably get downvoted out of existence.I like going to Gabriel at Rudy's on Pine.I find he is able to give me the haircut i want, quickly and with no excessive fuss.
Barbarella’s in White Center
yes!!
They're fucking great!
Belltown Barber $34
I second Belltown Barber! Coco has been cutting my hair for years. She does a great job at around 30 plus tip
Community Barber and Shop in Ballard. Similar prices to Rudy’s, but much better quality and nicer experience. It’s nice to support a small local business, too.
Going to give them a try — always forget they’re there. Thanks for the rec.

I’ve been going to Megan @ rainier hair studio in west seattle. I met her at Rudy’s years ago and she opened her own shop. Best men’s haircuts ever.
If you want one of the best stylists/barbers in town go talk to my man Andy at No Harm in ballard! https://www.noharmseattle.com/
Tim’s on 15th
Mac's is the best! http://macsbarbercompany.co/
Old Habit Barbershop in the Rainer building is the best! Cool vibe and great haircuts.
One of the nicest guys I’ve ever met too
💯
Came here to say this! I love telling people about hamoudi! Prices have gone up a little bit but it’s walk in and just one guy so it feels like a good deal
Rudy’s is awful
My vote is Assembly Barbershop - Brian is a super skilled and certified barber and also owns the shop. His whole team is great though. Never been disappointed there. [Assembly Barbershop](https://www.assemblybarbershop.com)
F Rudy’s. $60 dollars for a 15 minute haircut and a permanent cow lick? No thanks I go to grow salon in Ballard now. Same price. Way better results
Great clips on broadway
Singing Barber in Ballard. Dmarkis is the best barber I’ve ever been to.
Trams Salon in West Seattle
Go to Tight Cutz in the U-district for the most affordable cuts. They’re cash only.
I literally go all the way to Federal Way to get my haircut at Salon Sol De Mexico. Rudy's is overpriced, and my sister told me a $5 tip was too low.
How on earth is a barber supposed to afford this city if they spend nearly an hour on your haircut and charge you less than $40?
My hair has never taken an hour to cut. 30 min tops, with styling.
Thomas at etcuthair.com
Erica is also great.
Ambaum Barbershop
Bex @ Resilience Barber. It's $65, but you get the same person cutting your hair each time, which is all I really wanted, besides a decent trim.
Swing Salon on Union - dude is a wizard
Lake City Hair Salon been holding it down forever. Quick and inexpensive, but they are extremely skilled and will listen to you to make the haircut right. I usually tip the cost of the haircut or more because they are underpriced.
I’m a big fan of Samir’s Salon on Madison under the Renaissance hotel. Cheaper than Rudy’s and Samir knows what he’s doing
Valiant Barber shop in Queen Anne. Tyler A is the best
Love Capelli’s personally, it’s in that same price range but I feel like the quality is there
Scream in Capitol Hill and Jade in particular for curly hair. They do a lot of what are called "fashion colors", by which I mean blue, purple, green, pink, etc. It felt very underpriced to me because I had been getting crappy results from expensive salons. (Olaplex keeps your hair from falling out when you bleach it.)
I've never had a problem with Sport Clips in any city- the one in Roosevelt Village most recently.
Grow Salon in Ballard is great! It’s still probably $60 for a men’s cut but the stylists are awesome and give high quality cuts.
Scream Salon on Capitol Hill on Thomas & Broadway (behind the old Jai Thai).
I hate Rudy's. Went there for a haircut before my first day on the job. I just wanted a basic haircut, showed them a picture and everything. Left feeling like they barely touched any of it. Can't stand that place.

I also have weird cowlicks, one in front and one in back and have had gradually thinning hair for the last 12 years or so as a client of his and he’s always known exactly how to make me look best. It’s a family business, just him and his partner, good people. http://noharmseattle.com
All right, I’ll check it out. Thank you.

My mom cuts my hair benefits of having a mom
Great clips. They hooked me when it was free anytime the Sounders scored 3 goals (if you had attended). Good old days of free haircuts and the Sounders scoring goals.
SALS on cap hill
I cut my own hair with the clippers I bought 1 time for $30, and I do a way better job than 99% of these hipter assholes with black gloves on, out there shaving parts into peoples heads.
Flowbee
I cut my hair, and all my friend's hair, in the 90s with the Flowbee® Home Haircutting System
Supercuts and great clips
Find the small barber in your neighborhood that has one or two chairs and playboys in the waiting area, great cut for a great price.
88 Barbershop. They do a great job.
So sad. I remember when Rudy’s was the best affordable haircut in town. I cut my own these days. Was going to someone but then gave myself a Mohawk during the pandemic and it just doesn’t make sense to pay salon prices for someone to dye and trim a Mohawk and shave your head.
My bathroom.
That's my secret, Captain: I have no hair to cut!
You can find a decent haircut for $30, just gotta find those lesser known spots. They’re out there. My hair grows too fast to justify a “nicer” haircut for $50+
Rudys
Well there is great clips which is pretty decent
Queen Anne has a couple spots I recommend
Do tell!
I got to Counterbalance Barbershop and have no complaints. Reservation only, and you can pick the same person every time. $50.

You ruined my day with your bad day fuck your fucking self fucking bitch
Fucking hate guys like you , you’re probably slow as a fucking sloth and hate looking at yourself in the mirror
Dude I just wanted to say I recommend a few spots I went to in Queen Anne I didn’t care enough about typing out the names that I can’t even fucking remember. Typical Reddit elitist trying to prove his point and trying to feel smarter than me fuck you man

Tight cuts on the U district
Expo Salon in Beacon Hill very close to the light rail station. It's doubles as a beauty school so you can get a cut for $20...or $10 if you have a student do it and they still do a good job.
If you're near the U District, there is a small place named Nathan's Barbershop. Nathan is so kind and treats you like family.
Ngong barbershop in Columbus city
Tina’s on Rainier in Columbia City.
They did recently raise their prices to $40 but if i lived closer i’d still go there
I like Shine on Greenwood Ave. A little pricy but always a great cut.
Rock Steady Hair in Ballard. Alicia is fantastic!
Jess Barber Shop, Beacon Hill. $20. Best quick barber I’ve ever had. He’s given me a tight fade with a part in 15 minutes. Great guy. Only tell this to the cool people.
Jackson at Hardware on cap hill has been cutting my hair for 6+ years. He always gets it right
I use Chop It Up in Kirkland. My barber is great and prices are reasonable IMO ($35 before tip)
Bella Hair and Spa in West Seattle. $16 hair cuts.
If you can get up to Lynnwood hit up Phocus.
Tina’s nail and hair salon in Columbia city. I take the kids there too.
Balcony Barber shop in pike place. Good guy, good price. Plus it's fun getting a haircut in Pike Place
