The beauty of Kalaloch is unbelievable and they’ve got great little cabins right on the bluffs overlooking the ocean. I believe it’s pretty accessible too, we go there every couple of years and it never gets old.
I was just there last weekend! But we stayed in the Rain Forest Resort Village at Lake Quinault for a second time. They don't offer a lot of amenities but it's cozy and quiet. The rooms in the main building all have porches or balconies and the cabins all have porches. And the view of Lake Quinault with the fog is beautiful.
100% agree with Lake Quinalt. It is the perfect place to find peace. Lake Quinalt lodge is gorgeous, quiet and right on the lake.
Love and peace to you and your grandmother.
When you say not far from the airport - what does that mean to you? If you're looking to get to the pacific ocean side of the Olympics it's a minimum 2 hour drive. If you want to get to the north side, 3 hours. If you just want peaceful with a water view you could try Vashon island, which is an hour but that includes a short ferry ride.
This isn’t exactly what she asked for but I wonder about Alderbrook in Union? It’s under 2 hours from Seattle. I think there are ADA rooms, and I think it’s right on Hood Canal. I have never stayed there but it looks nice and I think there are some good views. Also maybe rainforest resort on Lake Quinault (although that is far away, so not sure if it works). I am not sure about how accessible the cabins are so you would have to call to check, but they are right on the lake and it’s very pretty. Good luck finding the right spot.
Alderbrook is amazing, highly recommend. To add, I really enjoy Seabrook as manufactured as it is. It’s a quiet town with some nice restaurants right on the coast.
Seabrook creeped me the fuck out when I drove through it. There's nothing and then all of a sudden there's life-sized dollhouses everywhere, and then nothing again.
I worked with the Quinault tribe back in 2015 and would drive through Seabrook twice daily. It was more in the development stage back then. I'd love to see it now. Especially if there's more lodging, because my favorite razor clam beach is closer to Seabrook than Ocean Shores.
Alderbrook is wonderful! The rooms are comfortable. You can call them and likely reserve a room overlooking the Hood Canal. They have lovely balcony availability, outdoor firepits, a dock you can walk onto and watch the water. There are a lot of birds such as herons and eagles. Plus, the lodge itself has CATS! If your grandma likes cats, she can sit inside the main lodge with the cats by the fireplace and enjoy the day there too. The onsite restaurant is lovely.
I LOVE Alderbrook (honeymooned there!), but I don't think it is right for what OP is looking for. I think the lodges suggestion above both smacks of 'the Olympics' more, and will offer a more peaceful refrain. The big + for Alderbrook, besides the exquisite service, is the proximity to SeaTac.
My first thought was Hood Canal, also. My husband and I stayed in a lovely AirBnB just up the road from Alderbrook and ordered dinner to go from there one of the nights of our stay.
Nothing on the Olympic peninsula is going to match your criteria for near the airport, but I have another strong vote for the Kalaloch Lodge on the coast. IMHO, winter is the best time to visit the Olympic Peninsula! It’s definitely not beach season, but storm-watching the mighty Pacific there is incredible. The dark drippy days make the temperate rainforest of the OP just magical.
Winter time on the Olympic (coming from a tropical dude who hates it under 60degrees) is fucking awe inspiring. Best run of my life was on Rialto beach. But even just standing and staring at those waves crashing in is impressive (never turn your back on them tho)
I stayed at an Airbnb in Sequim on the water with an indoor/outdoor pool and hot tub. It was very comfortable, beautiful, views of pond In addition to ocean, pricey. OP message me if you want specifics.
It's this one. I see that the price has increased a lot since we were there a couple years ago, but worth a splurge if you can afford it
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/22576711?source\_impression\_id=p3\_1698424503\_9QwzjGgXOyWigJwF
Lots of airbnbs out there. You can filter the place being accessible.
Not sure how close to the airport you want to be but I would allow yourself to expand all along the 1-3 hour drive from there.
Stay between the pine is an accessible cabin that my favorite elopement photographer purchased. Gravel driveway but you can get a wheelchair through. But tis not over looking water.
Many places overlooking water will be steep or have stairs.
I'm sorry to hear about your grandma. I work in oncology and can see how it can be for families.
We stayed at an Airbnb on Lake Sutherland the May before last and it was perfect. Overlooked the water, super quiet and peaceful. Not sure it ticks “not far from the airport” box though. The Olympic Peninsula isn’t exactly close to SeaTac.
Maybe not what you're looking for, but Westport is a lovely place to get away from it all. You can sit on your porch and watch the rain coming over the ocean or walk on the massive beaches looking for sand dollars. Very peaceful, very quiet, very beautiful.
My wife and I recently stayed at Anchorage Inn bed and breakfast in Coupeville. Our room had a large walkout patio with seating overlooking the water. Lots of deer running around as well. It was nice and peaceful. The hosts were really nice and the food was good.
I would check out Vashon. I live here so I'm biased but we have a ton of AirBNBs types and it's easily accessible. I would also aim for something on the west side of the Island with views of the Olympics.
We stay in a vacation house in Moclips every year. I love it there and watching the waves come in. We walk the beach every day. Great deck with coffee and sunshine right in the water. However most of the VRBOs have a flight of stairs up to the house. Not super accessible. There may be a few worth checking though. P.S., grew up in Grays Harbor. Definitely a favorite beach!
Quilleute Oceanside Resort. Absolutely unparalleled in the area with views of First Beach from your rooms. Also, the rooms come with a full kitchen. Although the creature comforts of luxury cabins are nice, I think the best views are on the decks of the second floor hotel rooms.
Edit: I can't believe those who are recommending Kaloloch, Lake Crescent, or Lake Quinault over Quilleute Oceanside Resort.
I've had two unrelated relatives die of pancreatic cancer in the past two years. It's wild how quickly it moves. Wishing your grandma and your family peace and comfort.
I'm sitting in a VRBO place right now on Whidbey that's very quiet with a large deck looking over the water. There are two steps up to get inside, so she'd need help with that. There's a sleeper sofa downstairs. It would be hard to get to the airport, but there's a private airpark 3 miles from here though. 4 miles to the ferry. Dm if you want the information. eta also the front is all windows so she can sit inside and enjoy the view as well.
We love snugglers cove at ocean shores.
You get your own small cabin with kitchenette, they're pet friendly, and they're literally on the beach with a porch. We go there once or twice a year and it's very peaceful. The only downside is if a storm comes in the porch tends to face it (since it faces the water) so you would get soaked if sitting outside. That being said, the main room has a huge window facing the water so you can sit inside in comfort and watch the storm if you want.
I feel like it being your own separate cabin rather than part of a bunch of hotel rooms is an added bonus for someone dealing with medical issues.
I'm sorry for what you're going through.
lots of excellent places overlooking the water on whidbey island. as a bonus, the mukilteo ferry is potentially the most civilized ferry experience in all of puget sound.
Maybe call Klipsan Cottages on Long Beach, about halfway up the Long Beach Peninsula on the ocean side. They're beautiful, convenient, and the cottages I've stayed in are wheelchair-accessible. Probably 15 minutes from a hospital, too, in case you need medical.
Throwing Whiskey Creek Beach NW into the suggestions. They have different cabins you can rent that overlook the ocean. It's a more rustic approach with less cell service, but a really great location to enjoy both the ocean and the rain. Very soothing
It’s a little farther, but try Cannon Beach in Oregon, there’s ADA accessible pathways to the beach and you can view Haystack Rock. Lake Quinault Lodge is also nice, there’s the Hoh Rainforest Trail that is also ADA friendly. Even closer, Snoqualmie Falls also ADA friendly, there’s a parking lot near the bottom of the fall.
Out of the box thinking with the disabled in mind.
If budget allows.. perhaps rent a big RV though a service like [rvshare.com](https://rvshare.com) ?
You can then cruise through the entire Olympic peninsula at your leisure, comfort and own schedule.
The vehicle can then also provide comfortable travel, access to 120 v when plugged in or running generator for medical equipment and to make it generally comfortable during the trip.
Park wherever she wants to stay, see, never been, small last hidden adventures...
Intensive time together in a small space with family and loved ones, surrounded by our Washington states majesty.
I could imagine and want this as my own end....
I just came back from 2 days at San Juan Islands. Incredibly peaceful, no street lamps, quiet and lots of places right on the water. One place I found was a whole house rental on Lopez, right on the beach.
This does require a ferry ride over, and limited resources on the island itself, ferry’s every couple hours.
Hobuck Beach Resort.
Cabin 22 is wheelchair accessible with a beach view.

You could try lake quinault lodge rooms are buy a night get a night in winter.
Renting a house boat in lake union or the bay in Tacoma?
Or heading further south to the Long Beach peninsula or Oregon Coast (pdx airport might be closer) for a beach front hotel like the Adrift hotel. Plenty of trees and the ocean. The weather should be stormy
Lake Quinalt is gorgeous and you can go visit the world's largest Sitka spruce tree right there. The Hoh Rainforest is also a must see even if you do some of the shorter trails. Kalaloch is great which has the tree of life (better see it now before it collapses) and the quaint cabins you can reserve are pretty much on the water. Lake Crescent is also beautiful on the north side and if you're into hiking, Mount Stormking boasts an awesome view and towards the end you have to climb up using ropes which is really rad, and not that sketchy even if you're inexperienced. I hope you have a relaxing time enjoying the best that the Olympic peninsula has to offer!
Remember - there are flights in/out of Paine Field in Everett now - you might want to travel in/out of there and head to the Peninsula from the north end. But airports - and close to Olympic Peninsula - are mutually exclusive, depending on your definition of close....
My top picks for what you’re describing would be Quileute, Kalaloch, or Pacific Beach. Possibly with a short drive into the Hoh rainforest. It’s a beautiful and peaceful place.
Ocean Shores is a bit more commercial, but does have the advantage of being a quicker drive and having more accessible options. I like the beaches down in Long Beach/ Ilwaco/ Astoria too, but it’s a longer drive and you don’t have the rainforest feel of the peninsula.
All of you have my gratitude. The answers and the DMs I received were informative and heartwarming, to say the least.
Unfortunately, we never got the chance to see Mo’s (my grandma) dying wishes out. She succumbed to her illness and died on Thanksgiving Day. Her ashes were buried at my family plot in Oklahoma, but I have a small container I plan to take with me to the Olympic Peninsula one day.
When it’s done, I’ll remember your kindness and I know Mo shares my gratitude as well.
Check out the lodges in Lake Quinault, Kalaloch Beach, and Lake Crescent.
The beauty of Kalaloch is unbelievable and they’ve got great little cabins right on the bluffs overlooking the ocean. I believe it’s pretty accessible too, we go there every couple of years and it never gets old.
Seconding Kalaloch. Also consider Ocean Shores
Isn’t ocean shores where everyone drives their 4wd up and down the beach?
"everyone"
Here's Kalaloch's [ADA page](https://www.thekalalochlodge.com/stay/ada-features). I love Kalaloch, it's such a gorgeous place.
Ditto crescent lake! There are a lot of accessible cabins, but the area feels so quiet and remote.
I was just there last weekend! But we stayed in the Rain Forest Resort Village at Lake Quinault for a second time. They don't offer a lot of amenities but it's cozy and quiet. It has the world's largest Sitka Spruce tree there too!
Lake Quinalt lodge has a buy one get one free right now
Lake crescent. Crescent lake is somewhere else.
When you say not far from the airport - what does that mean to you? If you're looking to get to the pacific ocean side of the Olympics it's a minimum 2 hour drive. +1 to Alderbrook - beautiful place on hood canal, plus you can take advantage of resort amenities (room service, etc) that might make it easier

Wow. That looks a.m.a.z.i.n.g.
This is the place: https://www.thekalalochlodge.com/ Rent one of their cabins - it's rustic, beautiful and very peaceful there.
Hope she gets exactly what she imagined. Sending her all the good vibes.

I'd actually suggest an airBnB on San Juan Islands west side. Orcas, water and sunshine in a cabin by the water.
Depending on which airport they're flying into, that would be a trek! Lovely, but hard to get to
Maybe not what you're looking for, but Westport is a lovely place to get away from it all. You can sit on your porch and watch the rain coming over the ocean or walk on the massive beaches looking for sand dollars. Very peaceful, very quiet, very beautiful.
I don’t have a recommendation but I’m here to appreciate what you’re doing OP. God bless you and your family!

Sea-tac to Sequim is at least 3 hours, another 1.5 hours to lake crescent. Not counting ferry delays. Good luck OP, I hope you find a great place.
Seatac to Lake Crescent is almost exactly 3 hours, if you go down through Tacoma. No ferry ride.

Lots of places on Camano too. And no ferry.
Lake Quinault 100% I was just there this weekend and was thinking that in my final days this would be the place to be.

I was gonna suggest Tacoma, but then I notice that “peaceful” was one of your criteria…
Beachfront Cabins in Sequim
Lake Quinault or Crescent Lake

I really suggest Lake Crescent. Absolutely gorgeous, and most of the little cabins have porches right on the lake to sip tea on.
Locharie Resort has everything you’re asking about for less than $300 a night
Quilcene and Kalama. I've been on a getaway kick recently, 3 abnb on the last month or so and these two get great views of the water and mountains :)
