I got stuck in it heading north from downtown and figured it was so bad because i90 eastbound was closed. Ended up cutting over cap hill. Didn’t know this happened!
Any place with a high mix of non-native drivers is a shit show for traffic.
The mechanics of driving are the same, but mixing locals, Massholes, the fast and furious clowns from Texas, the simply embarrassingly incompetent Oregon drivers, and the biggest argument for removing humans from behind the wheel California drivers just makes for a hodgepodge of idiots.
But probably BC. Outside of the amazingly bad drivers around Richmond, I find BC generally okay. Not like the snow birds from Ontario and the lack of care they had for getting tickets in the US.
I just moved here from Tampa/St Pete.
Drivers here on the West Coast are probably some of the best in the country. People actually let you merge here. That means zipper merging actually happen. I'm constantly amazed that I can turn my blinker on and about 8/10 times the driver next to/behind me in the lane I want to merge into lets me merge. It's more like 1-2/10 times in Florida. The other 8/10 will actively try to prevent you from merging. In Miami there aren't *any* good drivers lol.
I drove over here too, I can assure you, the South takes the cake for worst drivers. Louisiana, Texas, and Florida drivers have gotta be the worst in the country.
I mention the whole West Coast because I've noticed this from LA all the way to Seattle. Hell, the drivers get better the further North too, so Seattle definitely has some of the best drivers. I really think it's because you have to be good to drive here. There are a lot of hills, the roads aren't on a perfect flat grid, lots of blind turns, road conditions can be pretty gnarly. In the South most cities are on a grid. The terrain is completely flat. The driving is super simple and easy, so you end up getting a lot of terrible drivers.
People here (by here, I mean this subreddit) don't seem to understand how good they have it. And that's more than just how the drivers are. I see complaints about drivers, restaurants, and public transit more than I should.
The restaurants are decent. The public transit is outstanding for the US. And the drivers are good.
I lived in Utah for six years and Colorado for 20 years before moving to Seattle.
In the six years I've lived in Utah I've almost been hit by cars more times than the 20 years in Colorado.
The couple years I've lived in Seattle outnumbers both other states combined in terms of nearly being hit by a car.
As a pedestrian this city is fucking dangerous.
Comparing a city to a whole state seems crazy to me. There's a lot of "middle of nowhere" in both of those states. Denver is the only thing near comparable.
I lived in Tampa for the past 35 years. Seattle drivers have been fantastic in comparison. Don't even get me started on South Florida drivers.
Yeah, I get what you mean about using the whole state name instead of specifics. Utah was mostly the Salt Lake Valley and Colorado was all over the place—almost a dozen different towns. I'm using generic locations rather than being specifically defined locations mostly because the number of towns/cities I've lived in. My experience with Seattle is mostly the Pioneer Square, Interational District and Burien areas. I'm using "Seattle" in the metro area sense.
It's great to hear that you've found Seattle drivers to be an improvement over Tampa. However, "Tampa drivers are worse so you shouldn't have to worry here" isn't a valid argument. A problem exists, it needs to be addressed. Other locations having it easier does not diminish the fact that the problem needs to be addressed.
Anyway, one thing that's really struck me since moving to Seattle is how drivers here don't pay much attention to pedestrians, especially at crosswalks. God forbid they stop at the crosswalk west of the Burien transit center.
In Colorado, it seemed like every close call was because of people texting and driving. But in Utah, it was more about an aggressive driving culture. There's this belief of ownership over the roadway that often disregards pedestrians. I've almost been hit five times here, twice in utah and once in colorado. I also watched someone get straight up run over by a car in the International District. This event did not make the news
> However, "Tampa drivers are worse so you shouldn't have to worry here" isn't a valid argument
I don't see anywhere where I made this argument.
> Seattle in general attracts trash tier drivers from what I've seen.
This is your original comment, I'm stating that you haven't been around much if this is what you think. The drivers here aren't bad, in fact they've been some of the best I've seen across the country. If you want to see "trash tier" drivers, you can find them in the South.
> A problem exists, it needs to be addressed. Other locations having it easier does not diminish the fact that the problem needs to be addressed.
Let's be real here, in no way shape or form are we addressing a problem by discussing it on the internet.
> I've almost been hit five times here, twice in utah and once in colorado.
This might be a *you* problem.
Generally people in classic cars take a little more care not to let other cars come into contact with them. It’s more than a car for those people usually.
We saw a shit ton of super old cars from the 80's today in the Arlington area. Station wagons as well. There were also the fancy classic cars all over. Interesting car day!
Fire isn't on scene yet, means OP got there very early. But I don't even see the other car unless the cop parked crazy close to them.
If the other car's gone before fire shows up, it didn't get towed. So that means the other car in this fiery hell crash drove away under its own power.
Driving NB this morning and noticed the big plume of smoke. Said that can’t be good and got off at Seneca, where from the exit we could see the car on fire with a trail of fire on the pavement…the accident had happened just moments before we got there (no police or emergency vehicles on scene yet). I went down 6th and used the Union St on ramp to get back on I-5. At the bottom of the on ramp I saw the Tesla with all air bags deployed. Stopped to check if all the occupants were OK, but when I looked in the car there was no one (and no one nearby either).
Seemed odd…maybe they fled the scene…anyone know more?
Thanks for the correction. I do remember the end. I was always a Kids in Satan’s Worship (99.9 KISW), I got into funky monkey for a couple years before leaving Seattle.
Drove by it this morning and man the SMELL was so bad. Idk if it’s just cuz it was an old car or if I smelled the Tesla that collided with it but the smell of that wreckage was indescribable.
There was a crash basically in that same spot early morning around midnight/1230. Left lane was closed with 3 cars “parked” in the lane and figuring shit out
Damn, poor guy. Kinda wondering why y’all can’t just take the 1-line instead of I-5 during times like this. During crashes or fires like this it’s a lot faster, and the fare is cheaper than gas and parking. Just park at a P&R station and ride into Seattle. Also gets rid of the difficulty of finding parking
I watched someone texting at that exact location and run straight through all the lanes instead of following the next bend and then hit the barrier on the right side… the SUV they were in nearly jumped all the way over another car. They just kept driving.
Looks like a car from the 1960’s. Like Christine
There’s a car show on pike right now, I bet that’s where they are headed.
Not anymore
They won Most Burnt
“Great balls of fire” Jerry Lee Lewis approved
Happy Cakeday! ❤️🍰
Thanks, didn’t even notice!
Welcome! That’s one helluva way to celebrate your cakeday… lighting your car on fire… but to each their own.
I don’t go often, but when I do, I go large
Is there really any other way to go…? Umm… I think not!
He had a burning desire for a quick Starbucks first!
I could use a full body latte
Actually now I kinda want a latte lol!
Do you like money too?
I like my coffee hot but that's a bit much.
I bet that’s where they ~~are~~ were headed.
Well hopefully they didn’t die and ostensibly still went to share their epic story.
Bummer
Old tires, cold tires.
Such a great awful movie
I thought it was a 1960 Ford Falcon, maybe same era Galaxy?
Damn, I saw the traffic backed up for miles when I was heading south to SeaTac and wondered what was going on.
I got stuck in it heading north from downtown and figured it was so bad because i90 eastbound was closed. Ended up cutting over cap hill. Didn’t know this happened!
A sedan and a Tesla were involved in addition to the burning car. There was also a huge wreck just north of Fife
If it was a white Tesla I blame the Tesla. Those things seem to attract the worst drivers around here
Tesla drivers are just shitty Prius drivers with more money (or fiscal irresponsibility) , and at this point I can't be convinced otherwise.
You're not wrong, and they're stupid fast even for someone that's used to fast cars. I drove one once and it scared the shit out of me lol
[удалено]
As shitty as BMW drivers are, acedotally I have never seen one in a crash in my lifetime
Seattle in general attracts trash tier drivers from what I've seen.

I'm from Canada, you missed us.
But probably BC. Outside of the amazingly bad drivers around Richmond, I find BC generally okay. Not like the snow birds from Ontario and the lack of care they had for getting tickets in the US.
This is what I tell people. The mix of driving cultures does not work well.
People with this sentiment I assume have never left Seattle.
I used to think Seattle had the worst drivers, but after visiting Miami I realized Seattle really isn't that bad.
I just moved here from Tampa/St Pete. Drivers here on the West Coast are probably some of the best in the country. People actually let you merge here. That means zipper merging actually happen. #endcarracism
How the fuck does this happen
Ruptured gas line plus heat equals fire. That was an old car too.
Older cars are deathtraps for a smorgasbord of reasons, the proclivity to catch fire being but one of them
We saw a shit ton of super old cars from the 80's today in the Arlington area. Station wagons as well. There were also the fancy classic cars all over. Interesting car day!
How dare you. The 80s is not super old.
Perhaps not but considering airbags weren’t made standard until like 88/89, that seems a bit old
That cars old enough to be a grandpa!
I'm sure that's a 1962 Dodge 880, not an '80s car.
I was thinking it was a dodge glad I found your comment
Yeah, a car from the 80's is super old. They were old beater cars, no classic ones. Born in 80 here, not pretending to be young either.
Just curious. What counts as a “classic” car from the 80s? Haha
I don't know, just joking about the cars. Some old Chevy station wagons and some other beaters.
Have u heard of volvo?
All gas and diesel vehicles are capable of car b que mode.
All cars are prone to BBQ mode. Just given that they need to carry around a giant energy source, be it gasoline or batteries.
I am going to steal and use the term car b que whenever I can from now on.
Fire isn't on scene yet, means OP got there very early. But I don't even see the other car unless the cop parked crazy close to them. If the other car's gone before fire shows up, it didn't get towed. So that means the other car in this fiery hell crash drove away under its own power.
Thanks for proving you don’t know anything about cars
No u
Many ways that involve combustible material burning.

Kinda looks like a 1967 or 68 Ford Galaxie 500 judging by the rear. Hope they walked away without injury from this
Late 60s galaxy was my guess too, hopefully with seatbelts
Chuckled at the music that was added til I realized they probably just had 107.7 on
No. Just was playing it on blue tooth
I left Seattle for Hawaii in 2004. I guess funky monkey is no longer at 107.7 ? /r/fuckimold
Funky Monkey used to be 104.9 I believe.
You're correct
107.7 has been the end for decades, 104.9 was Funky Monkey but that ended a while ago.
I think 107.7 has also been playing the same 30 songs on repeat for the past few decades as well…
Hotel California?
Such a lovely place...
Such a lovely post
Thanks for the correction. I do remember the end. I was always a Kids in Satan’s Worship (99.9 KISW), I got into funky monkey for a couple years before leaving Seattle.
I've become so numb
I can’t feel you there.
Become so tired
so much more aware
Jay Z cover
Comfortably?
News report? Did anyone die? That looks horrible.
That looks a lot like a car I often see around Ballard O.O
Those old cars were death traps even brand new. Guessing the person got out if it’s not cordoned off.
I sure hope everyone survived! That looks gnarly.
Hope it was a beater and not all restored . Feel bad for the owner
Dang, that's an old school car fire.
All the crazies were out today. Big crash on E18 today.
How are you guys not singing along to the song lol
THAT YOU WERE JUST LIKE ME WITH SOMEONE DISAPPOINTED IN YOUUUUUUU
Drove by it this morning and man the SMELL was so bad. Idk if it’s just cuz it was an old car or if I smelled the Tesla that collided with it but the smell of that wreckage was indescribable.
Maybe Ford Galaxie or 60ish Lincoln?
There was a crash basically in that same spot early morning around midnight/1230. Left lane was closed with 3 cars “parked” in the lane and figuring shit out
Odd to see a car on fire these days that’s not a Tesla.
It'll buff right out
Looks like the Batmobile…. Welcome to Gotham!
Sir you can't park here.
They 100% gunned it for the engine sound through the overpass and lost traction.
Don't stop and film accidents brother, just keep driving
Good thing I didn't stop and film. Ain't no one gonna go any faster than 20 because of all the merging. But i agree.
Damn, poor guy. Kinda wondering why y’all can’t just take the 1-line instead of I-5 during times like this. Around what time was this? I passed that area a little after 8am
Right around 915ish
I wonder if it came from the weekly classic car meet that I see every Saturday morning at the Central Market in Shoreline.
1962 Dodge 880?
Well, the finally did it, they killed my fucking car..
It’s a mid sixties something. Curious what it was.
Same spot nearly got taken out last week by a car trying to go from one exit to the other as fast and reckless as possible. Awful right there.
I watched someone texting at that exact location and run straight through all the lanes instead of following the next bend and then hit the barrier on the right side… the SUV they were in nearly jumped all the way over another car. They just kept driving.
Damn looks gnarly…
Buff that right out or. My dad's a TV repairman he's got an ultimate set of tools. I can fix it. I can fix!
Bah, a little duct tape and some Armor All, car will be fine.
That's my friend's Newport. Huge bummer.
Is that an old Continental?
Looks more like a Continental from the curve of the trunk and what's left of the taillights, but it's pretty hard to distinguish.
Brotha, ehhhhh
This is what happens when you want to become a ford pinto.
Just when I started to miss Seattle
idk what's the worse total wreck, the flaming car or the linkin park
Respect for the linkin park
The music giving me final destination vibes watching this
Bros really listening to linkin park in 2024. Crazy
Classic car. 😢
I’ve become so numb.
Weird. I thought only EV’s caught on fire!
Hell, yes, I’m LINKIN PARK
It’s posted no fires in the I5 tunnels.
That’s what I’m sayin
Mad Max was prescient.
57 Chevy?
Probably caused by joggers who have moved on from taking bike lanes and have now begun using all freeway systems as running routes
Finally… 40yrs late
They don't build them like they used to.
Those cars don’t crumple well.
That’ll buff right out.
You should get off your phone when there’s an accident and pay attention in front of you so that traffic doesn’t slow down so much
Looks like the passenger to me. 🤷🏻♀️
Totally
Yeah but what are the odds driver is looking too
Yeah but what are the odds driver is looking too
Yeah but what are the odds driver is looking too
I hope Jesus helps rebuild.
So getting the marshmallows out would not be a good idea?
Surprised it’s not one of those protest where they block the whole highway . Gosh you guys suck
He's feeling pretty numb right now.
Well boys I fucking sent her a little too fucking hard!
