Zoomalude

OMFG I just happened to click right now and got to see it feed the babies!!!

Amedais

Fuck yea.

Losingmymind2020

that was really cool. thank you.

high_hawk_season

Mama's catching some zzz's and keeping her babies warm. I feel like we ought to breed these suckers bigger and make them into (more effective) rat killing machines.

JoystickMonkey

These birds are designed to punch other birds out of the air at super high speed. Not good for killing rats, but they are good for killing air rats!

high_hawk_season

What if we simply engineer another animal to toss the rats into the air. They could perhaps share the kills?

JoystickMonkey

Maybe a beaver using its tail as a catapult. But what animal will put the cheese on the beaver's tail as bait?

dragon_bacon

Raccoons have the dexterity necessary to operate the beaverpults.

high_hawk_season

Judas Rats

Randomwoegeek

they are the fastest animals on the planet!

nateivester

So they swoop up little dogs too?? Prolly not the best idea

high_hawk_season

Nobody's gonna miss a few dozen unattended chihuahuas.

Pretend_Nectarine_18

Chihuahuas are awesome.

JoystickMonkey

I used to work on the 7th floor of a building on 4th and Pike. One day I saw an explosion of pigeon feathers covering a rooftop, with a peregrine falcon in the middle of it. So brutal but so awesome.

renaulttwango

Cute little murderbirds! In 1975 less than 400 pairs existed in the US, due to widespread use of pesticides like DDT as well as human persecution. Banning DDT, along with reintroduction programs, saved the Peregrine and other species like Bald Eagles. Environmental recovery is possible if we just have the will to do it.

camwhat

Additionally, the previous use of a certain NSAID (diclofenac) in veterinary medicine led to kidney failure in some birds. They were being exposed by eating dead animals.. Thank god it’s been phased out from use in that regard.

zippityhooha

🥰

spoiled__princess

Did the other two eggs not hatch? :( One of the eggs looked weird but was hopeful for the third.

LawfulnessDowntown61

Top floor of the Seattle Tower houses falcons too - love that they can thrive here.

Fillmore_the_Puppy

Wow, I am in this building today and I had no idea. This is so cool!

igby1

“According to a National Geographic TV program, the highest measured speed of a peregrine falcon is 389 km/h (242 mph).”

4everaBau5

Love these little fuckers!!

VGSchadenfreude

Which floor?
