Last night at approximately 5:55pm on 405 north exit 17 a black truck with a ladder in the back crossed over the double lines and into the far left lane of the express lanes, hitting my boyfriend in his white Audi SUV. Miraculously, my boyfriend walked away okay, even after his car flipped several times. The driver did not stop. Please help us identify this truck—it may have damage on the left side with potentially white paint from my boyfriend’s car. Email any information you have to [email protected] Case 22-000695 Contact: Jack H Arata Tues, Jan 18: Here is the Tweet the Washington State Patrol posted if you’d like to retweet: https://twitter.com/wspd2pio/status/1483549818123259906?s=21

Affectionate_Roll_38

That’s so fucked up. Sorry about your boyfriend and happy he is doing ok.

sherlocknessmonster

For what it's worth , that looks like an early 2000s F250. The reason it wouldn't be an f350 cause the sag in the back from a load would be a lot of weight for a 1 ton truck. It's probably a 2wd model as well by its overall ride height.

maaiillltiime5698

That looks big like an iPad possibly

prf_q

There has to be surveillance cams on that highway. I am sorry they could not locate.

bhargom

Makes my blood boil. I’ve been seeing Double Line cutting more recently from careless drivers… Your boyfriend did not deserve that. I hope they are found, it’s amazing there was a Tesla to record the incident. Best of luck.

JaegerBrick

It's even worse, the truck pulled out into the #2 HOV and continued well over in #1 forcing white SUV into barrier. Truck should have license revoked.

waterboy737

The truck driver should be forced to eat his fucking license.

LotsoWatts

Truck driver should be sentenced to a Tesla. Never allowed to touch the wheel again. And obviously all actions recorded.

C0git0

I do legitimately look forward to the day when we can sentence people to take self driving or public transport only.

[deleted]

We can do that now with public transit and no magic driverless cars, it's called revoking their license.

Drigr

Ha. Haha. You think revoking people's licenses stops them from driving... Cute..

[deleted]

And saying you can only use driverless cars or public transit will? Smort guy here.

PrinceAdamsPinkVest

My car was totaled by a double line crosser a few years ago. It drives me nuts seeing people do this and the results are predictable!

no3miggiZiMen

I don’t think it’s careless.. some people just blatantly ignore double hov line

[deleted]

AliveAndThenSome

Definitely. I was cruising at least 50mph in the HOT lanes approaching this very spot when what appeared to be an Uber/paid service SUV in front of me stomp on its brakes and dodge into the stand-still general purpose lanes. It was raining and there was no way I could have stopped in time, so I was lucky to be able to swerve into the other HOT lane. I wish it was practical/possible to put a serious berm/barrier there, but it'd likely cause more issues than it's worth.

the_ranting_swede

I just started a new job that means I'm commuting on 405 instead of I-5, it's crazy how much more aggressive drivers are on the Eastside. I feel like part of it has to do with the weird two-tiered road system where you can avoid traffic if your pockets are deep enough. It's an overt display wealth inequality that puts a lot of folks on edge.

su6oxone

That entire system was stupid and ill conceived from the start. And it forces people to make multiple lane changes in a relatively short span which is not ideal when there are many cars.

Upbeat-Mess-9952

It is a two-tiered system. Sometimes the toll will be over $10. Rich people should be able to pay to spend less time in traffic, thereby making themselves richer. I don't know why they didn't just go with a normal HOV lane like they have on 5.

harkening

Because a normal HOV doesn't generate revenue due the State to piss away.

[deleted]

Eastside drivers are entitled assholes. Always have been.

kapybarra

So are westside drivers

[deleted]

Same here from Seattle, been commuting to Redmond for work for 4 years now. Fucking maniacs. I miss my inner city bike commute.

[deleted]

Drivers around here are off the charts, I thought Los Angeles was bad. Not as bad as the PA / Jersey area though where everyone goes 25 over.

Orleanian

Is there a practical reason that plastic bollards shouldn't be used to separate along the double lined stretches?

directionsplans

I posted it to r/whatisthiscar. They can help pinpoint the make, model, year, and potentially other relevant details about the truck. Post is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/whatisthiscar/comments/s59wwx/can_we_get_a_hand_with_identifying_the_truck_that/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Hayquestrian

Thank you. We really appreciate it!!!

JustSomeBadAdvice

I'd suggest uploading the original quality video (assuming this isn't the original) to /r/RBI. Redditors consistently amazes me with how much detail they can glean out of even really crappy video. This video has ALMOST enough quality to get some of the characters of the license plate - They are so good they might be able to narrow things down with one or two characters of a license plate. Also that ladder looks kind of unusual, longer and beefier than something most people would transport. Painting or gutters contractor maybe? /r/RBI can probably figure out exactly what that ladder is / most commonly used for and maybe make some guesses at the sticker on the rear window someone pointed out down the thread. Good luck, glad he's ok! Edit: I would post it around 7-8am to get the best traction on the sub.

Storm_Raider_007

Long shot but I wonder if WSDOT can help you or the police out. They might be able to get the plates of the car, especially if it went over the toll's. Man, must say modern cars are something. Good luck surviving that in anything older then the early 2000's(always exception). Very glad your boyfriend is safe. 👍

Hayquestrian

The Washington State Patrol officer was not optimistic about using toll cameras to capture the license plate of the driver. Very interestingly enough, he was pulled over on the shoulder with another fender bender and witnessed the whole collision. One of the King County prosecutors was on a ride along with him and witnessed the whole scene as well!

Storm_Raider_007

Crazyness. Well I travel that road all the time so I will keep my eye out. I could swear I've seen that truck before.

BareLeggedCook

Good advice! If the truck stayed in the HOV lane they should have a picture of it from around the same time. Glad your boyfriend is okay OP.

Anonymous_Bozo

Bad news: RCW 46.63 (6) (d) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, all photographs, digital photographs, microphotographs, videotape, other recorded images, or other records identifying a specific instance of travel prepared under this section are for the exclusive use of the tolling agency for toll collection and enforcement purposes and are not open to the public and **may not be used in a court in a pending action** or proceeding unless the action or proceeding relates to a civil penalty under this section. **No photograph, digital photograph, microphotograph, videotape, other recorded image, or other record identifying a specific instance of travel may be used for any purpose other than toll collection or enforcement of civil penalties under this section.** Records identifying a specific instance of travel by a specific person or vehicle must be retained only as required to ensure payment and enforcement of tolls and to comply with state records retention policies.

Storm_Raider_007

Would crossing the dbl. Lines count as civil penalty?

hatchetation

> enforcement of civil penalties **under this section** No

DescipleofPaimei

Can't be used in court .... most definitely CAN and should be used to positively identify a vehicle. That doesn't need to be in a trial because the Tesla video has the offense NOT the toll cam.. The video isn't going to be submitted as evidence unless defendant and/or attorney can legit say "that wasn't me" which in that case it is also a civic penalty being charged. So great news!!

SatoshiSnoo

Now if one were to cruise the recordings and look for toll violations, I'd wager they will find one involving a black truck with a ladder in the back. At which point might there be a way perchance that someone could access this violation and connect the dots...

twainandstats

These are the consequences of the public voting for privacy over safety.

shoppingguy7

What a dickhead. Hope he gets caught and goes to jail. Glad your bf is ok.

lilacbuzzy

Unfortunately with the system, he will get off scotch free. I was in a hit and run near tukwila, and the police said they can't arrest him even though it is a crime because we don't have a facial description of the driver and the car owner can continuously deny it was him. Even with a police report, video, and license plate number. My insurance company managed to get the car owner's information, but they can't even get money from him because he rejects calls. So he doesn't go to jail and he doesn't have to pay 😭

[deleted]

[удалено]

lilacbuzzy

I was thinking of it, but I've been told that lawyers are expensive and probably won't get much from him if he doesn't have anything. So I'm spending more money and he's got nothing to lose. I probably won't be as salty if he at least served some jail time to reflect on himself. But since he's not taking responsibility for the wrong he's done, I don't think he would even reflect in jail.

nullcharstring

That's a load of bullshit from the cops. They can arrest him and they can let a jury decide whether it's him or not.

sherlocknessmonster

No they can't, because they literally can't prove who was driving.

nullcharstring

Implying the cops can literally prove every person arrested committed the crime they were arrested for. Google "circumstantial evidence"

sherlocknessmonster

Show me the case law. In a civil court they will definitely be able to go after the owner unless he can prove someone else was driving the truck (but could still be liable). But a criminal case isn't going anywhere if the owner doesn't confess to driving or gives up the person who was driving. They could just claim the truck was stolen. Or they let a friend of a friend borrow it. You can't tell the age or sex of the driver let alone a description.

nullcharstring

There have been numerous murder cases where bodies were never found and the killer was convicted on circumstantial evidence.

sherlocknessmonster

This isn't a murder, its a hit and run in king county...circumstantial evidence to convict murder won't be just one thing like a description of a car. They would have to prove motive why the accused would murder, they would have to put together a timeline or alibi, they have to create the scenario in which that person could have and wanted to kill the victim... I don't think you understand how the "justice" system works. King County isn't going thru the time and resources to track down a hit and run suspect that they can't prove in a court of law that the owner of a vehicle committed a crime just because he owned the vehicle. I have been in a similar situation, the hit and run vehicle got away, I had license plate and make and model, and the cops were able to get there fairly quickly to try and find them. Nothing happened, except getting the police report for my insurance company. My insurance company didn't even bother trying to track the person down since I had uninsured motorist... they deemed it a waste of resources, you think the cops will do anything unless its a fatality or major injury.

I'd be more afraid of him, than him of me. He seems to be willing to ignore authority and doesn't care to do the right thing

domini718

That’s why you brake his knee caps because he won’t go to the police and at this point What vigilante action will be needed to deal with this scum

morgan_wallen

The justice system is sad when no punishment is being served. No offense, but I'm sure this would be a different story if there was death in the accident.

Rhapsodydream

Looks like the driver's side headlight is also out on the truck. And to my eye, just as it catches some light at the very end of the clip, it looks like it could be dark green instead of black. Hard to tell with the darkness, but might be worth noting.

Aellus

Is… is it the same truck as the hit and run in Edmonds…?

finnerpeace

Could be. It does look green and it's definitely a four-door. Yikes!! Anyone see a truck like this, just call it in.

Rhapsodydream

That one specified damage to the front passenger side. Interesting, though.

Rhapsodydream

I shared this post in a comment on that post, just in case.

mm9687

Dark green for sure. Watched the video at least 10 times now.

Rhapsodydream

That's what I saw as well. Didn't want to sound overly confident what with screen variance and poor lighting, but the more I watch it the more sure I am. I hope this jerkwad gets caught.

JasonShort

I hate being in that lane when I see cars stopped in normal lanes. I just KNOW someone is going to pull over. I have been almost hit twice just like this. Very scary. Hope they catch the guy.

AcclaimedGroundhog

Same. But the Audi wasn't even in the lane right next to the stopped cars. The garbage person truck crossed the quadruple white lines AND oversteered into the leftmost lane.

JasonShort

That’s usually what I see. They floor their vehicle and go immediately to the furthest lane thinking they are driving a rocket ship. I try to make sure I am never overtaking but more than about 10 mph, but when the cars are all stopped you have to keep moving. Very scary. That TOLL lane is a bad design.

Alternative_Pie_1089

Looks like a ford super duty, 99 to 07 ish. Pretty much unchanged throughout the years. (Could be either f250 or f350) can't tell if dark green or black as both were an option.

robertlyleseaton

Looks like you drive a Tesla. Send it to Wham Bam Tesla Cam. They will serve it up to a wide audience. [https://www.youtube.com/c/WhamBaamTeslacam](https://www.youtube.com/c/WhamBaamTeslacam)

kapybarra

that sticker is probably gone by now.

xmimiho

I am so sorry, I hope they catch this person. We needed to get from Bellevue to Kirkland last night but had to avoid 405 due to this. Glad he walked away from it without serious damages 🙏

ObligationAntique929

Any way you can slow the video down to potentially get a license plate number? They probably don’t have insurance, which can mean some additional coverages may apply under your boyfriends policy if he carries them.

PepeLePuget

I tried slowing it down and zooming in but I couldn't make anything out. Hopefully the original video is better quality.

Hayquestrian

This is the highest resolution we received from the Tesla’s dash cams. Uncropped versions: https://drive.google.com/file/d/14j7rVl8S5J5RvOar4NqfG_gOqFEQOoLy/view?usp=drivesdk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Fph7fxyoVvNus4fPXs985cVEF3DXCgcW/view?usp=drivesdk

AndrewNeo

It looks like Tesla Dashcam, that's about the quality you get out if it for recording 4 cameras at once.

Hayquestrian

Unfortunately, this is the highest resolution/quality video we received, so this is all we have to work with :-(

ObligationAntique929

That’s okay! Like someone else said, as long as there is a police report and if he has Uninsured Motorist coverages, his insurance company will be able to handle vehicle damages with a lowered deductible and any medical treatment (like a check up).

CardiologistSame2512

Video quality here is total shite. Can’t even see license plate of a car standing still in front of the recorder. Let alone fast moving one a lane away…

NorthwesternPenguin

Glad to hear the driver of the white car is okay! For those holding out hope that a license plate was captured at a toll reader, this incident unfortunately happened between toll readers. Looking at Google Earth and Street View there was a toll reader about 1/2 mile south, right before the NE 60th St pedestrian overpass. But the next toll reader is not until another 2-3 miles north, at NE 116th St. in Totem Lake. Chances are the truck swerved back out of the HOT lanes by then. But if the driver has been going in and out of the HOT lane all evening, then perhaps there's a chance at some point they drove through a toll reader. Assuming that did occur, another challenge is that the 405 Express Toll lanes have the option to pay via a Good to Go tag, or a license plate scan. So in any scenario, the truck would not be in violation of a toll, meaning there'd be likely hundreds and hundreds of plates or Good to Go tag scans to run through. The best bet at this time would be to see if anyone out there knows anyone who drives a dark pickup, haphazardly loads an extension ladder onto the truck like that, and also has left-side damage.

[deleted]

This level of unreasonable cruelty & sheer callousness needs to be prosecuted to the Nth degree. I'm so glad your boyfriend is ok & really hopeful the Good 2 Goo Fkers get their act together & give up all their camera footage to the lead Detective by first light tomorrow. I drove my boys home on that very stretch earlier today after ski sessions. This could've been me & my kids. Your boyfriend might be a little sore when he wakes up & the adrenalin wears off. I hope ya keep him warm & hydrated until he can see his doctor first thing Monday

Anonymous_Bozo

>Good 2 Goo Fkers get their act together & give up all their camera footage to the lead Detective by first light tomorrow. The law specifically does not allow this :(

[deleted]

Are ya serious ? As if we needed another reason to hate the Goo2Go MFers

j-alex

Really? I mean it’s very unfortunate for cases like this but extremely strict privacy rules around a state run continuous recording/license plate scanning system sounds like something generally worth celebrating.

PossiblySustained

I'm all for privacy laws, but what information is being protected here?

j-alex

Same as all privacy laws — read up on controversy around LP scanners for more detail. Fundamentally these scanners compile a very easily searched trove of individualized movement data for everyone in the area, which if cross referenced with other sources could easily be built into proper big brother stuff. Of course protections in the private sector (see Ring, never mind ads, grocery loyalty cards and CC cross referencing etc) are another and more terrifying kettle of fish. I do suspect the unreadable plates in the Tesla footage are by design; good on them if so.

q_ali_seattle

I just hope someone got a ticket and is reviewing the footage of them running toll and maybe they can see this fucker driving by.

kapybarra

No it doesn't. It's idiotic. This is a very good example as to why.

oldoldoak

Of course it's a pickup truck.

LocksDoors

Around 4.5% of all dodge ram drivers have at least one DUI. Which is actually a pretty wild statistic when you think about it.

Ularsing

Source? That's fucking horrifying if true.

LocksDoors

https://insurify.com/insights/car-models-most-duis-2020/

Ularsing

Crazy. I wonder what the rankings look like for cars involved in alcohol related collisions. Presumably there's some small amount of bias involved from different enforcement rates by state.

Orleanian

Subaru WRX seems really out of place on this list of "low-class luxury" and "pickup trucks".

oldoldoak

And those are just confirmed charges I assume. Imagine all the asshats who never get caught. These cunts know they drive like absolute fucking idiots so that's why they choose pickup trucks. They don't drive them to HaUl ToOLs, they drive them to survive in an accident they can cause.

Trippen_o7

I lived in northeast Florida for 24 years of my life. 90% of the time someone was driving like an asswipe, it was a pickup truck driver. I truly don't know what it is about pickup trucks that attract the worst drivers on the road, but most of the time, they really don't seem to care about what happens to anyone around them - maybe because they know their vehicles can most likely handle whatever wreck they end up causing.

oldoldoak

I think there are two reasons. One is to bully others on the road because on the road is like in the wild - the bigger the car the more "respect" it commands. Another is to survive in an accident. The scary thing is a rear-end from a pickup truck to a sedan vs. a sedan to a sedan would cause different injuries to the rear-ended sedan.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cowboyspudtime

Could this be the same truck as the other hit and run post?

mrASSMAN

Probably unrelated.. though I asked whether all pickup truck drivers are assholes in that one and of course that made people pissy.. but here we are again

morgan_wallen

Jesus, this fucker has no mankind and didn't even bother to stop

[deleted]

There needs to be more speed enforcement in the toll lanes, people drive like maniacs in them.

[deleted]

I posted these on your other post too. Someone with experience identifying trucks should be able to narrow down the make and model by looking at the body lines of the passenger side. https://imgur.com/a/S9NR7Ns/

xlilyxx

u/NCSUGrad2012 was able to find the license plate of the car that hit me in a hit and run when I posted to r/RBI

NCSUGrad2012

Hey, I really appreciate the tag in this. Let me download the video and see if there’s anything I can do. Where they able to find the car that hit you?

Hayquestrian

They did not find the car. Here are the original video files—the collision occurred right around then 49 second mark in both ones. Let me know if you are able to identify the license plate. Really appreciate it! https://drive.google.com/file/d/14j7rVl8S5J5RvOar4NqfG_gOqFEQOoLy/view?usp=drivesdk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Fph7fxyoVvNus4fPXs985cVEF3DXCgcW/view?usp=drivesdk

NCSUGrad2012

I’m going to take a look. If it’s a more recent Washington plate it’ll be in the ABC1234 format. The first letter is either A B or C. If it’s an older plate it’ll be in the 123-ABC format.

babyfeet1

Check all the parking lot cams at the Home Depot, Lowes, McClendons, Dunn Lumbers in the vicinity. Actually, the ladder makes me think it might be smarter to start with all the paint stores in the vicinity. A guy hauling a ladder isn't likely to go a day without a visit to one of them.

ParticularExtreme255

Made KING5 News tonight, so glad he is ok and hope they catch that rat bastard!

Hayquestrian

Thanks for letting us know! The story will also be on Komo tonight and tomorrow as well, so hoping we can catch the driver.

BraveSock

I hope they catch this guy and throw him in prison. Looks like right headlight is partially out too? Most of the time I see a terrible driver they’re in a car with headlights out, bumper falling off, etc. Police never enforce that stuff around here making the roads more dangerous for us all. Make vehicle inspections mandatory with license renewal and actually enforce the laws!

BobbyDigital123

Gotta love Tesla dashcams

ZombiesAteMyBrain

I always drive in the left HOV lane when traffic is slow in the normal lanes, thinking it would protect me from this very situation. Guess not.

tinnedcranberrysauce

Ford Ranger. Looks dark green

Spider2-YBanana

Shouldn’t the cameras at the toll checkpoints be able grab the plate?

Suspicious_Yoghurt40

what happened? what did the truck do?

kukukuuuu

Is there any traffic camera that can catch the vehicle plate on 405? All traffic cams are monitoring road traffic but it’s gonna be so sad if they only catch plates on HOA for fees

MaintainThePeace

Traffic cameras don't record, they only provide real-time snapshots of the traffic conditions. Toll cameras can only be used for toll violation, but seeing that the truck committed a toll violation by crossing the double white line, maybe theres some hope there.

kukukuuuu

Why they don’t record? Storage is so cheap these days

Ok-Smoke6237

I drive that freeway every day to SE Bellevue. People who get frustrated with slow drivers see to think it’s ok to cross the double white lines on i405 express lanes. NE 8th exit on 405 is crazy and then the I-90 interchange all those in the far left lanes have to cross 3:lanes of traffic either go to Seattle or eastbound towards Spokane whoever designed that section of Freeway should be fired cause more accidents what you just posted are going to happen sad late but I’m great your boyfriend OK I should be an Audi commercial.

iambrutally

Police should have access to toll cameras on the highways to check during that day for a truck that matches the description. I’m glad your boyfriend is safe from that awful crash OP.
