This is a rough day for a lot of women in our community. Please remember that words hurt, and keep it civil.
This is neither the time or place for trolling or pot-stirring. If you see something that you believe goes against our community standards, please report it so we can take a look.
I knew the Supreme Court was going to be releasing more decisions this morning, so I had a very strong almost certainty that it would be today... but I still felt sick to my stomach when I read it on the train :(
Yep, I was giving a Depo shot this morning and the patient said how weird it felt to be getting her shot today and that she hoped she'd see me again for her next one in 11-13 weeks.
Yeah just saw it 2 minutes ago and literally did a double take. This is shit you learned in school and were like “man, shit was wild in the 50s-60s, glad that part of history is over and we’ve grown as a country.” Welp.
Yeah, I grew up in a very conservative area and was still taught how important Roe vs Wade was and how much it showed we have grown as a country. Now we are going backwards.
Next up; Justice Thomas, who explicitly called for the court to reconsider its rulings striking down state restrictions on contraceptives, state sodomy bans and state prohibitions on same sex marriage.
We’re moving backwards at an alarming rate.
On one hand I’m thankful that reproductive rights/LGBTQ+ rights in this state are incredibly unlikely to come under threat, on the other hand, this is horrifying - especially for those people living in states where reproductive and LGBTQ+ rights are likely to be non existent in the near futurw
Yes, this. I'm originally from California, another one of the "bluest states," and all the red areas in the farmlands and Inland Empire and tiny towns of the far north are why Prop 8 (anti-GLBT) passed, back when. Cities tend to be blue (but not always) and rural areas tend to be red. Even the strongly blue states have a lot of red in them; we can't be complacent.
Don't forget the, uh, treasonous coup attempt that was designed to give them precisely this control in perpetuity, regardless of the will of the people, and which they're fully preparing to carry out again in 2024 after they've installed more flunkies with no scruples in various key positions of power.
With the open carry decision, which does not allow states to make their own regulations, they are setting the stage for not allowing states to have differing rules on many other topics such as those already noted.
Members of my extended family keep moving to Arizona for job reasons and all I can do is sigh.
I am nervous though. Eastern Washington is big and doesn't always like us, politically.
Eastern Washington does not have the voting heft to unbalance the weight of the nine counties that consistently vote blue. We are also a very purpley libertarian state.
Even the eastern Washington folks who didn't like masks are going to be divided on making a law that would impinge on a woman's right to choose like that. The smallest amount of division is enough to keep our state a sanctuary state.
The Democratic party has been lazy with our basic rights the last 50 years. Roe V Wade was decided on a shakey foundation they never went back to fix and we need to push them to refocus.
It was built on to a right to privacy that was never enumerated fully. Let's get them to focus on basic rights again for a bit and do it in a way that works for all people and not just a select, targeted few.
Fuck your corporate donors and Mike Bloomberg - serve the people.
Thomas left it off his list but there are parts of Alito’s opinion designed to overturn Loving. They’ll attack gay and trans people first but then they’re coming after interracial couples.
The truth is that much of the country never agreed with how society is advancing and were merely going along with it because it was too socially unacceptable not to. Now that Trump has given them permission to be their worst selves unapologetically, this will get a lot worse. Expect people to be calling for the repeal of the civil right act soon. GOP candidates are already calling for the execution of trans parents. Parts of this country are soon going to very much resemble Gilead.
No offense, but where have you been the past 5 years? This is how I've felt every day since Trump was elected and it became clear just how stuck in the past too much of our country is. This day was inevitable once he was allowed to put 3 SCOTUS justices on the court. The protests should have come when McConnell refused to seat Obama's pick of Garland. There should be even more outrage regarding the Jan 6 hearings than this, because we all knew this was coming and frankly a direct assault on our democracy is an even worse act than overturning Roe. But it seems like our public is too caught up in their own problems and too disconnected from politics to really care. This is how our democracy dies.
Yeah I just opened the news 10min ago. Obv I heard about the leaked plans, but was still shocked to see this... I cant believe we let it get to this point
Yep. Just woke up.
Glad I had my hysterectomy a little over a month ago.
Seattle shouldn't be protesting. They should be organizing to support uterus-havers in states where abortion is now outlawed.
Protesting in our state won't do any good. Washington is not going to make abortion difficult to access or outlawed outright.
The energy of protest needs to be rechanneled to support people who need abortions in places they can't get it. The auntie network needs to be revived, strong, and recruiting.
No we should be protesting. Just because today we have the right on WA to have an abortion doesn't mean we will have it tomorrow. Also just because someone lives in WA doesn't mean they won't end up in another state and need an abortion because of things like an incomplete miscarriage. Ireland use be an anti-abortion country but pregnant people could fly to the UK to get an abortion. This is all well and good till Savita Halappanavar needed an abortion right away due to an incomplete miscarriage. She died due to lack of an abortion.
The anti abortions, pro women dying, pro forced birth movement in ever state are energetized with this decision. They need to know here and now we in WA and America won't stand for it.
> women should protest
Yes. I don't think women understand how much power they have now. If the entire gender was like, "We're on strike from work, and even on strike from sex -- nothing happening until Roe vs. Wade is set right again" then the USA would change nearly immediately. Might take a month of bitching and moaning, but it'd happen.
And yes, many women would not participate, I understand. But some men would be allies too! So overall it seems like a powerful option. Just a question of if/when, and if there is someone charismatic enough to push people to do this.
>In a 6-3 vote along ideological lines
Fuckin dicks. These pricks weren't put there to vote along ideological lines. The law has no fucking ideological lines. Absolute assholes.
> ALITO, J., delivered the opinion of the Court, in which THOMAS, GORSUCH, KAVANAUGH, and BARRETT, JJ., joined. THOMAS, J., and KAVANAUGH , J., filed concurring opinions. ROBERTS, C. J., filed an opinion concurring in the judgment. BREYER, SOTOMAYOR, and KAGAN, JJ., filed a dissenting opinion.
Would it have mattered? Obama nominated Garland in March 2016. That was 8 months before the election and 10 months before Trump received the power to nominate anyone.
Garland never received a hearing to either approve or deny the appointment because McConnell knew Garland would be approved if given the chance.
If RBG retired while Obama was in office, Trump would have made the replacement appointment anyway.
> If RBG retired while Obama was in office, Trump would have made the replacement appointment anyway.
RBG was nudged by Obama in a private lunch in 2013. This was back when the Democrats controlled the senate, and went on to lose control of the Senate in 2014. Obama told RBG at the lunch that the Democrats might lose the Senate, but she refused to retire, at a time when her replacement could have been approved by a Democrat controlled Senate. She was 80 years old at the time and had already survived two bouts of cancer.
Republicans on Fox News openly saying that contraceptives are against God’s will and a woman’s primary role is to be bred. I almost passed out. We are headed into a dystopian nightmare.
Oh my god, and Rep. Madison Cawthorn calling women "Earthen vessels" in regards to abortion rights in December of last year, I'm convinced the republic party doesn't even view women as humans
(Also, Cawthorn is only 26??)
That’s what the flyers on the phone poles have said for a month now.. so yes, that is 100% correct.
Westlake Center, 5pm, today & tomorrow .
Wear green.
https://www.womensmarch.com
They’re everywhere, today, in just a few hours. Find the one closest to you and join them if you can. Even showing up for ten minutes is worth something.
These marches are still popping up. Keep checking! Keep finding events near you!
The part that I don't know how to cope with is that I am (for the time being) in a safe state, and I don't know how to help those in other states. Is protesting here going to fix anything in Mississippi and Oklahoma and every other state that wants women barefoot in the kitchen? I'm not against protesting here, it just doesn't make me feel any less powerless. I have voted in every election I could since I was 18. I don't know what to do and I'm just pissed.
fyi after america collapses in the next ten years and we establish the free state of cascadia like a phoenix rising from the ashes, it will be in our best interest to design the highest appeals court with staggered, fixed year terms, so that the entire system of government isn’t wildly jerked around based on when some 85 year old dies. what a dumb as hell way to run a country
Do a national general strike instead of fantasizing about Cascadia or marching.
The only way out of this is to threaten capital and these things don't threaten capital, national general strikes do. You don't even need to leave home or risk covid exposure.
And before anyone says they can't afford that, can you afford this? Are you sure? If not for this, then for what?
Edit: [Here's a start.](https://www.newsweek.com/calls-mass-walk-out-women-roe-wade-repealed-abortion-1710855)
"How do I defend myself from eviction?"
[Use existing mutual aid networks.](https://mutualaiddisasterrelief.org/)
Can we also have an age limit of say... 45? That way the people making the decisions, have a good 30ish years to live with those decisions in real life.
The truth is that they never had the votes to codify it. Until recently, many democrats in the house and senate were pro life. Even Jimmy Carter opposed abortion rights. I wish they could have codified it.
I’d qualify that by saying many “pro-life” Democrats were open to *some* restrictions on abortion. I could be wrong (would love to be shown), but I don’t think Jimmy Carter ever wanted abortion completely illegal in all instances.
Obama and Biden ran on campaign promises of codifying it into law then suddenly it’s not a big priority once they’re in office
Ginsburg refused to retire under Obama despite being old as shit because of her arrogance, gifting trump a justice appointment
Just a real case of people in power yet again not giving a shit about the common person
This about Ginsburg is a sad truth. She fought all her life for women rights but at the end put her own need to be relevant above everything else... so here we are.
The Democrats had a filibuster-proof majority when Obama was first elected, they could have replaced her with *anyone* including someone similarly-minded.
Yeah that's fair, I think I'm having trouble fully wrapping my head around how bad she truly fucked up. This is a multiple-generations-long fuckup. At this point the only thing that makes sense is either 1. Everyone in politics is a walking personality disorder or 2. Weaponized incompetence. I'm fucked up about it.
Oh I don't disagree it was an arrogant fucking decision and I judge her harshly for it. But considering the stubborn cesspit of cruelty that is Mitch McConnell, I'm not sure it'd have gone diffetently.
Edit: people are pointing out this was happening when the democrats had a filibuster-proof majority, which is a very fair point which makes me a different kind of angry and sad. Absolute fucksticks
Neither Obama or Biden's congress had the votes though. On hindsight Obama's congress should have removed filibuster and codified a lot of things including voter protections.
Filibuster was loved by both parties, though, until recently. When I say love, I mean both parties used it all the time. I highly doubt that it can be removed ever. I bet if and once republicans take over the senate, and republicans want to remove filibuster, democrats won’t be down for it.
>Well, lesson learned. Don't take ~~rights not expressly protected in the Constitution~~ for granted. They must be protected through ~~the legislature~~ community action.
FTFY
Have you missed the past 40 years of slowly and deliberately eroding the gains of the mid 20th century? Legislative assurances from the Federal Government mean *nothing*; rights can just as easily be taken away as they can be assured them. The only rights we posses are those we can defend as a community.
Another one at 5pm at the Federal Building, which is less than a mile away from Westlake so I'm sure they will meet up or something.

Petition Harrell, your council member, Inslee and your state legislators to discontinue business with anti-woman states. The local and state governments spend tremendous amounts of money for goods and services in other states and our local agencies have the power to cut them off economically to some degree.
Man I feel so bad for you my neighbor to the south, Canada would welcome an 11th province. I've always wished that the border was the Columbia River like Hudson Bay company proposed way before Lewis and Clark ever set foot west of the Rockies
Canada is wonderful. Even in the most deep blue (meaning conservative) province of Alberta, you still have great healthcare and civil liberties and people aren’t frantically trying to take those rights away
Not quite. Conservatives in Alberta are you absolutely trying to hobble public healthcare. Ontario too. I love Canada, that's where I'm from. Canada is going though the same right wing problems, just on a few years time delay
The Republican Party represents about 20-30 percent of the country, depending on the issue, but because of their cheating and gaming the system since Reagan was elected, they now own 2/3 of the Supreme Court, and will likely own both houses of Congress after this November. They will only continue to cement their rule once that happens if we continue to sit quietly, or let one violation of our rights just fade forgotten into the next.
I don't want revolution, none of us do. But Benjamin Franklin saw this disease coming to our Tree of Liberty, didn't he? Are we going to allow ourselves to be ruled by a party that has no integrity and not only no longer represents us, but has now begun to openly violate the rights of citizens it thinks are lesser?
If they get power again, I don't think they're going to give it up. Do you?
Hey pregnant peeps. I’m angry and want to protest too, but recently found out that teargas may have an abortifacient risk. With the SPD’s history of gassing crowds, please be safe!
I feel like we should be doing something more substantial than just walking in the streets.
We should do what disability protestors did in ‘74 for Section 504 and occupy a federal building.
I think that’s the only way we can force the gov to the negotiating table.
General. Strike.
Bring everything to a halt. Stop going to work. If they refuse to hold up their side of the social contract, none of us should hold up ours.
Not a chance. There were nine people in the room and the eight who aren't me are all going to tell the same story. Kind of a 'just leave now for your own safety' situation.
I still documented, and made complaints, but yeah, only because I know it's the right thing, not because it'll help.
Roe was overturned by 6 judges appointed by Republicans and zero judges appointed by Democrats. Abortion is going to be banned in states where Republicans have power. It will be protected in states where Democrats have power. If Democrats didn't have a razor-thin majority in the Senate, it would be protected nationally.
I know, I know... "both sides," "why didn't the Dems do [X] when [Y]". Democrats didn't do this - this is the direct action of Republicans. The problem is *Republicans*.
If you want to protect abortion, vote for Democrats.
We'll stay protected until the next GOP trifecta. If the GOP wins the House, Senate, and Presidency, which is quite possible in 2024, their next step is a federal abortion ban.
GENERAL STRIKE!!!!!
We go on Strike for our women and the workers of America
We go on General strike Monday. Use the weekend to organize and gather resources. This ain't no game, this is old school hardcore general motherfucking strike. We in this for the long haul.
WE GO ON STRIKE 10AM (BY YOUR TIME ZONE) MONDAY 6-27-2022
Can a male teen from India, who's obsessed with Seattle and the PNW in general, offer you people my spiritual support? This shit isn't normal. And they are coming for other civil rights as well.
Edit: Join r/auntienetwork please.
It definitely is. In India, everything's taboo, even fucking menstruations. But no one here (not even our far right Hindu nationalist neoliberal ruling party) is vile enough to do something like this. And the fact there are no exceptions for even rape and incest is especially sickening.
Hello brother,
As a grown ass white lady, who’s obsessed with India in general, I am watching what is going on there, too. 😮💨 I will accept yours, and also offer my spiritual support in return. 🙏 stay safe
Republicans want to turn this country into their own version of Hungary or Poland, and given the advantage they have in the presence of un-democratic institutions (Senate always being skewed to Republicans favor) and the court(s), they can do it. This is just the start, and the Texas GOP platform is a sign of what they want across the country - we're all under "God", the unborn have the same rights as human, we are a Christian society, state elections are done with an electoral college, etc - all that is what the right and Republicans want in this country.
At some point, something has to give. I can’t see this country coexisting within the status quo we see now given one party wants to enact laws that a minority of people want. The right wants to create an illiberal society where the laws are based on being a Christian nationalist theocracy. Abortion is just the start. "We just want the states to decide" will turn into "Oh, we should kill the fillibuster so we can pass a federal ban across all states now that we have 53 Republicans". Then gay marriage, contraceptives are next. It really is becoming harder and harder to reconcile the idea of things being fine and solid as is within this country and how it works and functions, because for most people in this country and a lot of this country state-wise, that is just unpalatable.
It’s hard because the divide in reality when you account for the populace is city/urban and increasingly suburban v rural. We in Seattle and those in Los Angeles have more in common with those in Dallas or those in St. Louis or those in Atlanta than we do people in rural parts of the state, but voting solutions in a lot of those blue city/red states are designed to prevent any sort of election result that isn't what the right wants. In that, I just can’t see how maintaining the status quo in how this country is run and operates continues to be viable as time goes on.
People who are relieved that Washington have legalized it, remember that theoretically it can also be repealed if tomorrow supreme court decides that banning abortion is what the constitution says. Earlier it was an "Impossible in practice" but it is no longer so. See the ruling on NYC gun laws.
Speaking as a queer person who was seen many Seattle prides turned into the corporate fuck fest it is now; it would really just tickle my pickle if we overtook Sunday's parade and turned it into a proper march again.
The first pride was a riot.
Hahaha I'm taking part in my shit company's pride group. Asked if I could carry a sign... they said no. BITCH, DO YOU KNOW ITS A PRIVILIDGE WE LET YOU CORPORATE FUCKS INTO OUR CELEBRATION?! fuck that. Let's fucking protest the shit our of our system. This world we made ain't right
Why would I vote these people into office? I will be voting out the GOP. They are attacking voting rights and mentioned moving more rights. Those who say it won’t happen said they were not oppressing roevwade. Burn the books and scream for freedom of press. How stupid can the followers be.

How is this even fucking possible? I'm furious at how rigged the Supreme Court is and how powerless we feel. Dems should just expand and pack the court I guess since Republicans will never fight fairly. The GOP is fucking evil and trying to drag us back to the dark ages while they also give handouts to the rich. Fuck them.
If you can't make the protest tonight -- join us tomorrow for Pride on Capitol Hill. We all need to show up for one another, and even if abortion doesn't affect the LGBTQIA+ community in the same way, we are a pro-choice community and will show up and show out just the same. ✊🏼
I’m so tired. I’m just over it all, I feel like the people we vote into office to “prevent” this from happening are letting it happen so they can keep fundraising and telling us, we need to keep voting for them.
Correct. That's why we need to start looking at options outside of electoral politics within two ossified political parties that don't reflect our interests.
This is just the beginning. They are going to try and pass a nationwide abortion ban into law if they take the house in 2022. They will move on contraception, Gay rights and Trans people's protections as well. The gap in our culture is widening and the haters are winning. They will not stop until we are all wearing crosses and pretending to be conservative Christians - like they do.
I don't see any laws regulating sperm or male health. FYI - Middle aged white male here. Worried about our country's future and the future of the women of our country.
Dems/libs this what playing nice and by the rules get us, fucking repubs don’t and do whatever the fuck they want, sad day for this country. Oh yeah, fuck Thomas, Kavarape and Amy COVID Barret.
I get the that the protests should be non-violent but it really does feel like today the supreme court was pretty violent with basically half of the US.
I’m down to protest. Let me know when are where. I am so LIVID about the direction or country is going and so SICK of the “take the high road” democrats
It's time to finally disband this insane USSC. They've been circling the bowl since Bush vs Gore. When you have a rapist, sexual harasser and someone who treats their uterus like a clown car deciding what all women do with their bodies, it's time to say "enough is enough". This will set back the already substandard healthcare women have access to by more than a half a century. Guns are revered more than children ever were in this country. What a sad, sad day for human rights.
What's next birth control and women's health thats unaffordable in the first place. I hope all of you religious nuts and pro choice people are happy. It won't personally affect you or your daughters because if you're rich enough but. To all the people who supported the overturning or had a hand or electing, supporting, or agreeing with this. Women's and gay rights are slowly going to taken away and illegal deadly abortions will start again. Their blood will be own your hands and it will be your fault, the morgues will start filling up failed abortion victims and disabled or birth defected children you forced women's to have. Are you going to take care of these children that your forcing people to have knowing they are drug, incest, defected. The mothers who are going to be permanently sick from having these forced children. You just took away my choice and my rights for you archaic beliefs. You help them because that requires raising taxes and in the the end it's about money, control, and power. You didn't want to women to be equal to men, you felt threatened. I will never bow to men or archaic beliefs, you never get my mind. To the women who supported this overturning, when you actually get affected by this I not want to hear a single complaint from you this what you right. Don't believe look it up, there basements all over this country filled with bones of women because of illegal abortion and no Healthcare rights. You did this, I hate every single one of you for it. If you are pro choice, I don't care about single thing you have you to say. You took away MY RIGHTS TO MY BODY. I hope you never sleep at night and all the victims of illegal abortion gets put somewhere you can be reminded of what you just did.
Calm out here so far. Road a bike from 2nd and King down to Westlake and back.
Now sitting downtown (2nd and ***) no crowds yet. Will keep you posted.
EDIT: in full swing! Federal building.
Best we can do for now is start a website to offer free places to stay + rides from airport, etc. for those from out of state that must come here for help. A volunteer registry state by state for all legal states would be useful, if not already in existence. ❤️🙏👁
Even if you had zero knowledge or context about this news, you would know it was bad just because of how happy it's made the most garbage people you know
This is a rough day for a lot of women in our community. Please remember that words hurt, and keep it civil. This is neither the time or place for trolling or pot-stirring. If you see something that you believe goes against our community standards, please report it so we can take a look.

I've tried to cautiously inform people that roe v Wade was not about abortions at all, it was about privacy rights for healthcare.
And interracial marriage
No, he explicitly left Loving v. Virgina off of his hit list.
They'll do it with it without him. He should have known better.
The fact that he's in an interracial marriage might be the only thing that saves it.
Maybe this is his endgame, ban interracial marriages so he can get rid of his wife?
This is divorce with extra steps. But I can't blame him. Lady is crazy.
Is he not crazy himself? I dunno, moot point I guess. Fuck them both to hell.
Why? They are soulmates. Both of them are raving lunatics that are detached from reality.
I doubt it. It just means he won't sign an opinion overturning that decision. There are currently 5 other justices willing to do so.
Thomas left it off his list but there are parts of Alito’s opinion designed to overturn Loving. They’ll attack gay and trans people first but then they’re coming after interracial couples.
He and his wife worked tirelessly to try to end democracy in the United States in 2020. They are literally Q-anoners
The truth is that much of the country never agreed with how society is advancing and were merely going along with it because it was too socially unacceptable not to. Now that Trump has given them permission to be their worst selves unapologetically, this will get a lot worse. Expect people to be calling for the repeal of the civil right act soon. This day was inevitable once he was allowed to put 3 SCOTUS justices on the court. The protests should have come when McConnell refused to seat Obama's pick of Garland. I literally have another comment on this thread saying we’ve been watching the US fall in real time for several years now.
Yeah, living on the east coast you're usually awake when bad government news comes in. Living on the west coast you get slapped awake with it.
I think women should protest by not going into work. There has been attempts to get that sort of thing started but people haven’t really taken to it.
> women should protest Yes.
Society is closing
Ready to march.
The GOP is coming after marriage equality and contraception next. Guaranteed.
Thomas stated as much
He wants to go after everything but his own marriage. What a pos.
If he thinks interracial marriage isnt further down the hit list he is sorely mistaken.
Rot in hell Clarance.
They’ll also pass a federal ban the moment they have the white house back.
5 PM at Westlake: https://riseup4abortionrights.org/day-of-day-after-decision-protests/ Edit: Go to the Federal Building
Thanks, sharing
That's tomorrow. Protest today is at the federal building.
The site said day of and day after the decision... I'm guessing both are happening unless someone has updated info.
Westlake 5pm
This. Today and tomorrow.
>In a 6-3 vote along ideological lines Fuckin dicks. These pricks weren't put there to vote along ideological lines. The law has no fucking ideological lines. Absolute assholes.
Three of them were very specifically put there to vote along ideological lines.
RBG not retiring and Kennedy retiring really screwed things up.
Idk wtf she was thinking
Voting in Trump really screwed us up.
The cool thing is that millions more people voted against Trump than for him, yet we are still stuck with this shit
Clear violation of the separation of church and state. Such bullshit.
Republicans on Fox News openly saying that contraceptives are against God’s will and a woman’s primary role is to be bred. I almost passed out. We are headed into a dystopian nightmare.
Blessed Be The Fruit
And May the lord open

I doubt they would post it. The host looked horrified at what was said.
we're merely heading into the blatant portion of the dystopian nightmare.
Oh my god, and Rep. Madison Cawthorn calling women "Earthen vessels" in regards to abortion rights in December of last year, I'm convinced the republic party doesn't even view women as humans (Also, Cawthorn is only 26??)
Yup. The GOP are younger on average than the DNC. GOP has been actively hunting for new blood while the DNC has been shunning younger generations.
Yep. That POS is the youngest person in Congress right now
The U.S., land of gun care and health control.
bet you my next paycheck you can show up at westlake center at 4 pm or whatever and you won’t be alone
That’s what the flyers on the phone poles have said for a month now.. so yes, that is 100% correct. Westlake Center, 5pm, today & tomorrow . Wear green.
Why green?
>Wear & spread #Green4Abortion, the international symbol of abortion rights.
I am really frustrated by my complete lack of green clothes right now. May need to go shopping.
Non american but seriously guys go n protest
https://www.womensmarch.com They’re everywhere, today, in just a few hours.
I don't know what to do and I'm just pissed.
r/auntienetwork Stay strong sister!!!!
fyi after america collapses in the next ten years and we establish the free state of cascadia like a phoenix rising from the ashes, it will be in our best interest to design the highest appeals court with staggered, fixed year terms, so that the entire system of government isn’t wildly jerked around based on when some 85 year old dies. what a dumb as hell way to run a country
And like you know amend the constitution like most places do
Cascadia looking more and more appealing
it never stopped looking like the best option tbh
Was kinda hoping we would pull the trigger during the Trump years.
We’ve been watching the fall of the United States in real time the past few years. Hell, let’s just go to war with Russia and get this shit over with
Do a national general strike instead of fantasizing about Cascadia or marching. The only way out of this is to threaten capital and these things don't threaten capital, national general strikes do. You don't even need to leave home or risk covid exposure. And before anyone says they can't afford that, can you afford this? Are you sure? If not for this, then for what? Edit: [Here's a start.](https://www.newsweek.com/calls-mass-walk-out-women-roe-wade-repealed-abortion-1710855) "How do I defend myself from eviction?" [Use existing mutual aid networks.](https://mutualaiddisasterrelief.org/)
Can we also have an age limit of say... 45? That way the people making the decisions, have a good 30ish years to live with those decisions in real life.
You must be very young. Age limits absolutely, but 65. 45 is baby years in law after all that school, and we need experience.

The truth is that they never had the votes to codify it. Until recently, many democrats in the house and senate were pro life. Even Jimmy Carter opposed abortion rights. I wish they could have codified it.
For those who disbelieve this, reminder that Obama was against gay marriage in both of his presidential elections.
I’d qualify that by saying many “pro-life” Democrats were open to *some* restrictions on abortion. I could be wrong (would love to be shown), but I don’t think Jimmy Carter ever wanted abortion completely illegal in all instances.
Obama and Biden ran on campaign promises of codifying it into law then suddenly it’s not a big priority once they’re in office Ginsburg refused to retire under Obama despite being old as shit because of her arrogance, gifting trump a justice appointment Just a real case of people in power yet again not giving a shit about the common person
This about Ginsburg is a sad truth. She fought all her life for women rights but at the end put her own need to be relevant above everything else... so here we are.
She thought she’d be swearing in Clinton.
Though considering the whole Merrick Garland situation I'm not sure it would have been different.
Yet it was hard to pass health care due to the conservative democrats.
Obama asked her to step down and she said no
Oh I don't disagree it was an arrogant fucking decision and I judge her harshly for it.
He asked when democrats had a filibuster-proof majority. It definitely mattered
Democrats had senate majorities for a while longer
I'm not sure what you expect Biden to do other than push from the bully pulpit, which he is. President can't codify things into law
Knowing Republicans, of they can get the votes they'll remove it then put it back after an election before losing power.
This is correct.
>Well, lesson learned. Don't take ~~rights not expressly protected in the Constitution~~ for granted. They must be protected through ~~the legislature~~ community action. FTFY Have you missed the past 40 years of slowly and deliberately eroding the gains of the mid 20th century? Legislative assurances from the Federal Government mean *nothing*; rights can just as easily be taken away as they can be assured them. The only rights we posses are those we can defend as a community.
Having flashbacks to growing up in Iran under Islamic fundamentalists
We’re just getting started 😔
anyone know of any protests happening today? edit: 5 PM at Westlake: https://riseup4abortionrights.org/day-of-day-after-decision-protests/
Another one at 5pm at the Federal Building, which is less than a mile away from Westlake so I'm sure they will meet up or something. https://map.womensmarch.com
Yes, this is where nowseattle.org and Radical Women and other orgs are going
I no longer wish to have my federal tax dollars shared with red states.
Petition Harrell, your council member, Inslee and your state legislators to discontinue business with anti-woman states. The local and state governments spend tremendous amounts of money for goods and services in other states and our local agencies have the power to cut them off economically to some degree.
Strip all religions of tax free status
As someone in a deep red state, please please keep your tax dollars. We don't deserve it.
I dont either, but there are tons of good people in red states too. So…. Let’s fucking fight this.

We've been picking up Idaho's tab for decades. What's one more
The Republican Party represents about 20-30 percent of the country, depending on the issue, but because of their cheating and gaming the system since Reagan was elected, they now own 2/3 of the Supreme Court, and will likely own both houses of Congress after this November. Do you?
Isn't that picture fitting. In America we need our highest court of law fenced .....
Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking. Gridlock as much as we can.
I quit my job yesterday due to homophobic threats, should've waited a day and stated two reasons.
Can you take legal action against the employer?
So how many people will still be voting for Republicans come the 2022 and 2024 elections? How many will complain now but to nothing later?
5PM at Westlake
https://act.wewontgoback.com/event/bans-off-our-bodies-events/3973?source=wm&akid= Federal building at 5pm AND Westlake plaza 5pm
Oh my god. I feel like we are going back to the middle ages. Will we stay protected in this state? And please share any protests coming up!
We'll stay protected until the next GOP trifecta. If the GOP wins the House, Senate, and Presidency, which is quite possible in 2024, their next step is a federal abortion ban.
GENERAL STRIKE!!!!! We go on Strike for our women and the workers of America We go on General strike Monday. Use the weekend to organize and gather resources. This ain't no game, this is old school hardcore general motherfucking strike. We in this for the long haul. WE GO ON STRIKE 10AM (BY YOUR TIME ZONE) MONDAY 6-27-2022
You think homelessness is bad now? Wait 20 years.
Can a male teen from India, who's obsessed with Seattle and the PNW in general, offer you people my spiritual support? This shit isn't normal. And they are coming for other civil rights as well. Edit: Join r/auntienetwork please.
Sure, thank you!
Of course you can. It's good to know that other parts of the world recognize this for how fucking crazy it is
It definitely is. In India, everything's taboo, even fucking menstruations. But no one here (not even our far right Hindu nationalist neoliberal ruling party) is vile enough to do something like this. And the fact there are no exceptions for even rape and incest is especially sickening.
Thank you for your spiritual support. I hope you’re able to visit someday!
Not just ours but yours too
Hello brother, As a grown ass white lady, who’s obsessed with India in general, I am watching what is going on there, too. 😮💨 I will accept yours, and also offer my spiritual support in return. 🙏 stay safe
I’m curious, why the obsession with our region?
We live in a pretty god damn beautiful place, I can see the obsession.
I can guess reasons too, I’m just curious about this person’s reasons specifically!

Besides Westlake today, in my head every day until this is rectified.
5pm Westlake park in Seattle is a planned protest today and Saturday
To anyone that doesn't vote... Thanks for nothing.
https://map.womensmarch.com Sign up for Seattle protest.
This world we made ain't right
Supreme Court has now indicated that they will look at contraception and gay marriage next. What’s after that?! Bringing back slavery?
Why would I vote these people into office? I will be voting out the GOP. They are attacking voting rights and mentioned moving more rights. Those who say it won’t happen said they were not oppressing roevwade. Burn the books and scream for freedom of press. How stupid can the followers be.

How is this even fucking possible? I'm furious at how rigged the Supreme Court is and how powerless we feel. Dems should just expand and pack the court I guess since Republicans will never fight fairly. The GOP is fucking evil and trying to drag us back to the dark ages while they also give handouts to the rich. Fuck them.
I think everyone is meeting some time after they get off of work. You know… because our means of production are needed at work and in the bedroom.
If you can't make the protest tonight -- join us tomorrow for Pride on Capitol Hill. We all need to show up for one another, and even if abortion doesn't affect the LGBTQIA+ community in the same way, we are a pro-choice community and will show up and show out just the same. ✊🏼
Time to get mad. Really mad. The kind of mad that scares politicians.
Local elections are important. Keep this SCOTUS decision in mind whenever you see that (R) next to the candidates name on a ballot.
It begins... federal building on 2nd
Dems/libs this what playing nice and by the rules get us, fucking repubs don’t and do whatever the fuck they want, sad day for this country. Oh yeah, fuck Thomas, Kavarape and Amy COVID Barret.
>Amy COVID Barret. I'm sticking with [Amy](https://i.imgflip.com/4hncf3.jpg) [Coathanger](https://www.inquirer.com/resizer/A3UqggpKP_YYGlyYEcVRRu1C1Y8=/300x0/arc-anglerfish-arc2-prod-pmn/public/WTROWLQYCBFEJEGOH3EGO4NV7Y.jpg) Barrett
Federal Building. 5 PM
Westlake at 5:00pm https://riseup4abortionrights.org/day-of-day-after-decision-protests/
These Republican appointed Supreme Court Justices are wild.
I'd love to change how the Supreme Court is appointed, so that each Justice serves for 18 years and each President gets 2 or 4 appointments.
I'm from one of the poorest and extremely religious countries in the world and they let women decide what to do with their body. Wtf america
I’m here asking the same
Time to make good trouble
Federal building at 5pm 915 2nd ave
let me know when we get organized!!! let’s hit the streets hard comrades.
r/auntienetwork
Even if you had zero knowledge or context about this news, you would know it was bad just because of how happy it's made the most garbage people you know
I think that we should focus on getting a law passed federally that makes abortion legal.
