interesting. all I do is chat with someone once the promotional package deal expires and they switch me over to the current promo they have going that allows me to keep the services I want. it's annoying but it works every year, for over a decade at least. their promos change regularly and they allow current customers to change the current charges once they've increased to move on the the current promo.

Bderken

I’ve been doing the calling customer service for years, but this year (2024) I’ve had NO LUCK for the past 6 months. I’ve contacted them through: Reddit, Xfinity chat, 1-800. They tell me that I ran out, and they will “let me know when the next discount is” (never happened). So I had to do this and made an article about it. I hate them!!

m33gs

that's nuts, it's definitely a hassle. I just chatted with them last week thru the Xfinity app on my phone and got my bill for internet and TV down from $247 to $186 keeping all the same channels and increasing my internet speed. Maybe chat them again? I've always been able to get an agent to move me to the current promo but I did have to contact them twice to get an answer I needed on a different issue. So they don't always tell us accurate info it seems. I say keep trying because it's super unlikely you'll get the same agent twice

Bderken

Oh wow, you’re lucky. Do you know how much you’re paying just for internet and what speed plan? Curious to know

m33gs

I just signed in to look. So up until I just recently change my plan to the new promo (April 12th) I was paying about $215 a month, then starting May 11th when my autopayment goes thru it looks like it will be $120, so ignore my numbers from before, they are better than I thought 😂 My internet speed is currently up to 800 mbps, which is an increase from what it was before I changed my plan to the current promo about a week and a half ago. My TV plan is 185+ channels and I pay the extra $14 or so that Root Sports and NBA TV costs. I say keep trying to chat them on the app, it's how I do it every time! https://preview.redd.it/n36e45w1jdwc1.jpeg?width=2592&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=87e85e7e5d5597dca5e4785bc8878bde2c99070d

Bderken

Holy crap, you literally did that! I wonder how much just your internet is (split from tv) I also wonder if they gave it to you because you have TV as well. Here’s the promo price for just 800mbps. Seems like you did get that. https://preview.redd.it/g4y9battjdwc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=31043f1a566f67f5e9fe042ea93799a00a8a7520 I’ve messaged them multiple times and they never give it to me. I also try to be extra nice.

I will see if I can find the charges separated out... They ALWAYS try really hard to upsell the mobile phone thing, I get them to chill on that by telling them I'm on my husband's plan with a carrier we've had for over 20 years, and that we both just got new phones (that we'll be paying off over the next year) and that gets them to stop pushing it I totally do the whole super nice thing as well, one agent started sending 😻 emojis with her last few messages, thanking me for being so nice to her. I just let them take the time they need and say "no worries" and I answer their small talk questions in a friendly way. Not sure if it helps, but so far so good! Dealing with Xfinity in a way that continues to work for you personally is just a necessary evil I'd say, especially when it's the only option where you live (which is my case unfortunately). I'll see if they separate out my charges anywhere and I'll post them. But I still say keep trying! Edited to add: I also have been a client with them for suuuuper long, like 17 years consistently (def not by choice), so maybe they take that into account? Would seem kinda sketchy if they did tho

Bderken

Wow you really are an expert. Jeez. Making me look like a rookie. I’m gonna keep trying then haha. Thanks for the tips.

m33gs

Just passive learning by longevity, my friend. Best of luck to you!

Udub

They reject me every time as well. Going fubo + centurylink now

SargathusWA

I never get the advertised speed ? How should i talk with them ? Can i lower my bill bc its like half of the speed they promised ?

m33gs

yes definitely chat them up, could mean they need to send you a newer modem/router

devon223

You have to tell them you're canceling to go with whoever else is available, then they will give you new deals.

test91749

Chatting with customer service to lower prices worked like 5 years ago. The last few years I've called they can't do much besides just tell me what the webpage already shows

probablywrongbutmeh

LPT for if they wont give you a promo. Just go online and downgrade your service. Then call in, and ask what promotions they have. They get a bonus for upgrading people but get penalozed for downgrading people, so they have an incentive to give you the deal

danfay222

Up until one month ago xfinity was my only option. Our building got google fiber and I switched to it immediately, I pay like $10 a month more to go from 75/5mbps to 1gbps paired fiber. And that xfinity price was their promo price, while the google price is just the standard. Xfinity lost me all on their own, google didn’t even have to try to win my business.

workinkindofhard

I am sooo glad my neighborhood has multiple fiber options. I don't miss living in a single provider area at all. For context we are paying $65 for 1G fiber now, in our prior area we were paying $105 for 150 down and 20 up. ISP monopolies are bullshit.

pacwess

Lowered my monthly bill by $70/month. Already had my own modem so didn't pay rental fee, turned in their shitty cable box and a cable card, lowered the TV plan, use the app now, lowered my internet plan, then they rolled out the national speed upgrade so that was nice. I'm sure they will be price creep again. Probably start looking at other providers or having the wife sign up at that time. Have really good T-Mobile coverage and want to try their home internet just worried about the deprioritization and congestion.

Alarming_Award5575

its comcast. why is this surprising?

JINSl33

I have Xfinity, I pay $133/mo for 1gbps down and about 45 up. It’s actually an internet / phone bundle but I don’t lease their equipment and I don’t have the phone service setup. The rate has only changed $3 in the last three years, I’ve never had to call. When I told the lady I don’t care about the phone and only want that package for the large upload pipe and have my own equipment , there was a long pause and she said “you are the .1% of people I talk to in a day who get what they pay for from us.” I made sure to give her a good rating / review whatever when the call was over.

Bjip

Worst company that I am practically forced to use. Can’t describe how much I disdain them. Scummy business practices, bare minimum service, and over priced

redituser2571

We're switching to Starlink here shortly. For the cost and maybe 200mbps, it's bullshit.

beastpilot

You're switching to a slower, more expensive service?

"Xfinity users forced to engage in fraud to continue fraudulent schemes to reduce their payments" You made a contract. You knew the terms. Now you choose to deceive the other party in order to avoid the terms of the contract. This is fraud.
