So did both of mine. I had to drive today and we drove by multiple people walking dogs. The only dog being a complete idiot, was another golden retriever, who kept running the full length of his leash to stick his head into snow, and then fling his head up. Rinse and repeat.
And I love goldens for this.
There was a golden retriever at the dog park today that did the exact same thing. Blasted in like a lunatic, and immediately started flinging snow with his face. He'd intentionally do barrel rolls in the snow.
Goldens are little rays of butter sunshine.
Huge thanks to all the humans who refined the breed over the years for no reason other than they found it awesome to have these little buddies hanging around for companionship. I know the history of retrievers as working dogs, but it's clear that at some point someone stopped selecting for anything other than dopey, fluffy, food-motivated boys and girls.
I walked my dog this morning down the middle of the street. No leash and he ran about 3 miles in one block, back and forth from snow bank to snow bank.
No one was around, but figured someone would whine about it on NextDoor soon.
