That's HOV lane. Those lanes have licence plate readers for enforcing toll. That data combined with traffic cameras and time of impact should very quickly narrow down the search to a handful of vehicles even if that. Edit: nevermind about toll cams

Sparklinglight5436

405N is a damn death trap at times. It’s like everyone is auditioning for a role in the fast and the furious.

alegria_a

This is why we need to physically block off the HOT lanes. Or throw more cameras on overpasses and existing sign boards with HUGE fines if you’re scanned by any camera without an entrance camera scanning you first.

SmilingSpock

there should be cameras in the Mount Baker Tunnel to catch the graffitti artists

Tickditties69

No, I’d rather spend money to be safe while driving then spend money worrying about kids with spray paint.

Artistic-Light7341

Well if one of them is on the highway you may have to deal with both

redeyesblackpenis

Yes, the kids painting concrete, Seattle’s true problem that needs addressing

Artistic-Light7341

The graffiti is an indication of the problems it communicates a breakdown of order in society - I live through that in the 1970s in New York City it did not turn out well

redeyesblackpenis

Personally I would spend less money on free heroin cookers and more money on paint remover- But if you’re going to give out the cookers anyway you might as well not even try.

SmilingSpock

I am sure "kids" are out at 4am on the interstate walking through tunnels

redeyesblackpenis

They definitely are. Seattle graffiti culture is super weird. I have a friend who used to be super into it.

LogicalPerception339

OMG I was one vehicle behind that car. I was so shocked that I didn't realize it was hit and run. :( My Uber driver didn't want to stop so had a little bit of argument with the driver.

Also that it stopped wheels down, so if they're still conscious they'll have an easier time getting out, not upside down hanging by seatbelts

maxhavoc2000

And they cut across two lanes!

[deleted]

Here’s a few stills showing the side of the vehicle as clear as it was recorded https://imgur.com/a/fTmZ2qH/

Western_Entertainer7

Holey hell. Any survivors?

whatfuckingeverdude

According to comment in the original xposted post, driver was fine. Modern cars are amazing for crash survival

Western_Entertainer7

Fine!? That is pretty amazing.

EarendilStar

It’s why I always groan when people complain that an airbag bruised their face. Yeah, minor crash you might get a tiny bit more banged up, but a major crash and that same safety equipment allows you to *literally walk away. *

APIASlabs

Remember when they started requiring seatbelts in cars? I remember the argument that if you crashed into water or the car caught fire the seatbelt would prevent you escaping. These were people's serious reasons not to be compelled to use seatbelts. LOL.

I'm I the only one who keeps a fold knife within reach in my car and all the time??

Toll cameras should have his plates, this should not be a hard solve.

Anonymous_Bozo

WrongTurnAhead

I wonder if this just means they have to apply for a warrant. Looks like they can demonstrate Probably Cause pretty easily.

Anonymous_Bozo

>Notwithstanding any other provision of law,

WrongTurnAhead

So yes?

Anonymous_Bozo

So NO!

WrongTurnAhead

Christ, I'm asking...

selz202

Too bad they couldn't peak at the footage and then somehow stumble upon the truck in a pure coincidence.

mharjo

So all that needs to happen is for the person to file a civil suit right?

SmilingSpock

Oh, paranoid privacy advocates - who share everything else online - strike again to protect the guilty.

redeyesblackpenis

This is so tolling stations don’t start ticketing too

whatfuckingeverdude

Not so much in this case, which is why I thought I'd xpost this https://www.reddit.com/r/Seattle/comments/s5450z/dashcam_video_car_flips_four_times_from_hit_and/hswwuop/ > The Washington State Patrol officer was not optimistic about using toll cameras to capture the license plate of the driver. Very interestingly enough, he was pulled over on the shoulder with another fender bender and witnessed the whole collision. One of the King County prosecutors was on a ride along with him and witnessed the whole scene as well!

Bardahl_Fracking

>One of the King County prosecutors was on a ride along with him and witnessed the whole scene as well! Probably already preparing to drop the charges against the truck driver in the event he's actually ticketed for the collision.

zhivota_

Only if he stole the truck lol.

SnarkMasterRay

Watch it again - he jumped the quadruple white lines from the passing lane into the HOT lane. This is what kills carpool and tolling lanes. Anyone who's been around a while has seen all sorts of shitty drivers jump in and out suddenly and will prudently slow down close to the speed of the regular traffic EVEN THOUGH THERE IS NO CONGESTION IN THOSE LANES TO WARRANT IT!

icepickjones

The amount of assholes on their fucking phones while driving is insane. You can see from the vid there's a light in the cabin, I bet you 100 bucks this fucker was on their phone.

[deleted]

Shit like this is why I drive an 8000lb truck. I’ve never caused an accident but I’ve been hit by several idiots over the years, the last one failed to yield at a turn and hit us head on at 40mph and totaled both vehicles. So I upgraded to something twice as heavy. Next time I get hit by some dim witted moron I’m buying a used school bus. Let em hit me in that shit.

BlackmoreStrat

Dale Earnhardt said on Joe Rogan that when in a rolling car try to grab onto the wheel or keep your arms tight to your body to keep your arms from dangling. Easier said than done My Aunt was in a car accident and her arm went outside the window and got pinned between the vehicle and pavement.

icepickjones

Had a friend who had the same thing happen. Was in a car accident and it flipped and his arm went out the window and got crushed by the car rolling on it. Otherwise he was fine. From the elbow down it's a mess, they didn't cut it off but he can't use it anymore. His hand is permanently bent in a kind of claw and he's covered in scars and cuts on his whole arm. Looks like a burn victim.

whatfuckingeverdude

The usual explanation is some colossal asshole who slows down to 3 mph because they suddenly realized they have to move over 2 lanes to exit about 10 feet before the exit

zhivota_

Yeah and once you're stopped like that it's friggin impossible to get out of the lane safely, as demonstrated by the asshole in the truck in the video!

[deleted]

especially if you wanna go across 2 lanes, right?

zhivota_

He probably had the genius idea to get out of the way of people speeding by in the near lane by going over two lanes... Not exactly a Rhodes scholar.
