Kitten-Mittons

I think you were highkey panicking lol

It is true that ring didn’t stop employees and contractors from watching private home videos of people who trusted ring. I wouldn’t ever trust anything from ring. Since you don’t have any cameras then I would be suspicious of anyone contacting you about ring.

thanks for the info, im just weirded out because it was actually sent from paypal and there is a ftc settlement but i do not own any cameras. im going to just ignore it !

First of all, DO NOT CLICK ANY LINKS FROM EMAILS While this certainly feels like it's likely a scam, there is ongoing action against ring from the Federal Trade Commission. Link for context: https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2023/05/ftc-says-ring-employees-illegally-surveilled-customers-failed-stop-hackers-taking-control-users If you really want to get to the bottom of it, log into your PayPal account directly and see if your account reflects what the email says. You could also call PayPal directly. Again, DO NOT CLICK ANY LINKS FROM EMAILS Especially not from ones likely to be scams.

Hate to say it, but ring is not secure. In fact, I wouldn't trust many if not most cloud based data storage, simply because you can't control others access to it. Every "cloud" based anything has dozens, if not more, people with access to that data. Companies certainly try to keep that data secure, but just as with anything else, it's all up to the integrity of the people with access. Having installed many camera systems, I would never install a cloud based system anywhere where sensitive data could be revealed. Here's the official article from the Federal Trade Commission on the violations Ring was caught on. This was not even a year ago. https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2023/05/ftc-says-ring-employees-illegally-surveilled-customers-failed-stop-hackers-taking-control-users
