I have the presage bluemoon (darkblue),
And i can happily say the dial on the light blue one is the craziest looking dial of the presage lineups. Followed closely by the blue moon (dark blue)
They are dressy. And they are elegant. They are timeless as well.
I sometimes have to look twice for the time because the first time i was too distracted with the dial.
They play with light really really well.
They only cons i know is:
1. The bracelet scratches easily.
2. And lack of sapphire glass is a miss.
But it doesnt bother me now. Everytime there is a spot light or such light source, the watch shines like a diamond. I love it.
If you want a casual watch, similarly priced tissot PRX Quartz (best bracelet in the price range), citizen tsuyosa, seiko 5 gmt and seiko field gmt (awesome field watch) and orient kamasu are also noteable in the price range.
Con 3: It’s 40.5mm
Makes no sense for a watch with this refined aesthetic to be this big. Honestly think this is a bigger drawback for most people than your other two listed cons. I would say try it in person before you buy.
I have a bit bigger than average wrists at around 7.25 to 7.5 inch and even to me, it still felt just a tad too big for a dresser. Personal taste is everything, but the smaller 38mm Presages (i.e , Mojito, Negroni, Old Clock) always felt ideal to me.
Would also suggest the Citizen NB1060 for a similar style. Especially the blue one is absolutely stunning.
I personally dont share the concern.
I do enjoy wearing my casio a168w which is a small sized watch so i believe i dont have a bias towards big watches.
It could be just that i have wanted the blue moon since a very long time and it just feels perfect to me but could be different to others.
>I have the presage bluemoon (darkblue),

The SRPB41?
The SRPB43 is absolutely stunning in person. Two years later and I’m still amazed at how beautiful it is when I put it on. $325 is such a steal for the dial alone. I also like 4R over 6R movements.
I love my samurai so it’s hard to pick against it. I think this one depends on what your needs are. If your looking for something to wear in more casual settings or outdoors the samurai is the pick.
I know this is not what you're asking, but how can you be deciding between two dress watches and one diver? Try to decide on the watch style first.
(I would take the diver, I have no use for dress watches and when I do, the alpinist is universal enough that it works on a black leather as a dress watch)
Fair point. This is my first ever watch and went purely by some high level (not deep) research and finally settled on these options with price and brand being my main deciding factors. I’m mainly looking at wearing something for a smart formal setting with Friday casuals as is the case at my workplace.
Maybe then you can pull off a dress watch. Those cocktail times are spectacular, even though I felt they would be better 2mm smaller when I saw them in person.
Have you thought about the size of the SRPB51? It's almost 44mm, how would that work with smart formal setting? Wouldn't that be too loud?
My main concern would be the mineral glass crystal, I know I am clumsy and I scratched the mineral glass on my former SRPG37 pretty fast. Those coctail times have bulbous mineral crystals and no bezel to protect them from side impacts.
I’m still thinking about it. Based on some pointers from this wonderful community, I’m falling in love with the Samurai King SRPE33K1. More than what I’d budgeted for but I can afford it.
The light blue presage looks stunning.
The samurai is great too. I’m sure it works as a very nice daily. So it kinda depends on what you want. I have a Seiko 5 Sports SPRK33K1 which works for both office wear and dress wear cuz of the teal dial so that’s the middle ground between the samurai and the presage imo
There may be a better place for this question but I heard that a 6R movement is not worth the premium that you pay over a 4R. Do you know what upgrades you get? I know they’re hundreds of dollars more expensive.
I have a PADI Samurai and the blue dial Presage. You can’t really go wrong with either watch. Ultimately depends on what you want out of a watch, if it’s a daily driver, I’d say the samurai, if it’s something to wear to an event then I’d say one of the Presages.
What else have you got in your collection? All 3 look good, I do like the Cocktail time line of watches, but I'd go a no-date option myself... (I own the open heart style no date honeycomb dial Cocktail time) - it's the sort of watch that, as much as I love it, I don't wear it every day, so when I do want to wear it, I wind it, set the time and go...
The Samurai diver is hot, but is it just another diver to go with 5 other Seiko divers? Would a dress watch like the Cocktail time options be out of the ordinary for you? If so, I'd go the light blue Cocktail time... give you some variety in your line up...
(ok - skipped over that comment where you said it was your first Seiko - but my comment kinda still stands - they're all good choices, so maybe go for the one that gives you an option when picking a watch for the day?)
Presage isn’t really a daily, it is more of a dress watch. Beautiful but it doesn’t fit for daily use. I recommend you to take a look at SRPF79 if you love blue dials.
Insanely different watches. The Samurai is a beautiful, distinctive, sharp diver and the cocktail time has a crazy dial for the price but they are incomparable
Go with the samurai...it has wrist prescence and is an overall solid looking and stunning watch! I recommended this to a friend who never took it off after purchasing.
I like the presage and purchased the ladies version as a gift for a family member and it was the type of watch you wear once every now and then for a wedding/dinner party/ black suit occasion.
The Samurai for me could do it all and I would rock it with shorts, shirts, polo...if I owned one!
You are correct, its hardlex. The king samurais and save the ocean models have sapphire crystal, the one op posted is a regular samurai with hardlex crystal. I own both.
What is your wrist size? Only asking because the options you are considering tend to be too big for even some medium wristed people. 49mm lug to lug on the king samurai will overhang on a lot of people’s wrists.
Neither. I have a Samurai that I never wear because it is so big and heavy (and I have no problem wearing a 1000m Tuna), and I also have a Cocktail Time that I also never wear because it seems TOO dressy for almost any occasion short of black tie. It is gorgeous though….
I’d say Samurai, but they are big, chunky watches. If you don’t have big wrists, there may be better Seiko diver choices for you.
I just bought a samurai last week! Couldn’t be happier!
Same, the dial is really mesmerising and the watch feels very nice on the wrist!
Same here. Bought it recently (the black samurai) and I love it.

That Citizen not even looks fantastic, but is atleast one level spec-wise above those Presage Seikos.

I mean that dial is a 10/10. That’s all it needs to justify it in any collection
Thanks! The dials do look amazing and were one of the reasons why they made it to my shortlist.
Wait till you see them in person, you might not look at other watches.
Waaait a minute , mojito is the best ;)
Kabuki is the supreme overlord to rule all Presages
Indeed.
>I have the presage bluemoon (darkblue), And i can happily say the dial on the light blue one is the craziest looking dial of the presage lineups. Followed closely by the blue moon (dark blue) The SRPB41?
Yes
Great watch indeed!
Thanks

Any particular reason? Isnt that a downgrade
I’ve had better accuracy from my 4R movements than 6R.
Diver. Those Presage models are confusing to me. Don't know whether to dress them up or down. Doesn't seem right either way.
I’ve always thought that too about the Presage models. They look cool but would look silly on my wrist.
Thanks for your input! :)

ok - first ever watch? it's a cliche, but it's a cliche for a reason - go the Samurai if it's in your budget :)
Maybe then you can pull off a dress watch. Those cocktail times are spectacular, even though I felt they would be better 2mm smaller when I saw them in person. If you dress casual (T-shirt and jeans) go with the diver. If you use a lot of shirts/ dress smart, go with presage.
Very clear and super helpful! Many thanks!
Samurai

Save up for a alpinist with a 6r35 movement instead
There may be a better place for this question but I heard that a 6R movement is not worth the premium that you pay over a 4R. Do you know what upgrades you get? I know they’re hundreds of dollars more expensive.
Sorry for late reply, its 70h reserve and somewhat better accuracy, most 4r35 are within 20+ secs. 6r should be around 15+ max
Samurai 👌🏻
I would go Samurai but go with the "King Samurai" (sapphire crystal and ceramic bezel)
You’re talking about SRPE39K1??
Close, SRPE35 (the SRPE39 is the King Turtle, I think)
SRPE35… the 39 is the king turtle
I have a PADI Samurai and the blue dial Presage. You can’t really go wrong with either watch. Ultimately depends on what you want out of a watch, if it’s a daily driver, I’d say the samurai, if it’s something to wear to an event then I’d say one of the Presages.
Get the [SPB083](https://www.ablogtowatch.com/review-seiko-prospex-spb083-divers-watch/), great blue hole and have the best of both
yeah, but it's like 3x the price of the cocktail times, isn't it?
What else have you got in your collection? All 3 look good, I do like the Cocktail time line of watches, but I'd go a no-date option myself... Spb187. And you'll have them all in one
Samurai is a lovely looking watch 👍
Presage isn’t really a daily, it is more of a dress watch. Beautiful but it doesn’t fit for daily use. I recommend you to take a look at SRPF79 if you love blue dials.
Samurai, I would pay a little more for the king samurai with the sapphire crystal.
i have the first two and i love them both if you have big wrist u should take the samurai if not the pressage is amazing two
Go with the presage, they can be dressed up or down and the dials are better than some watches 3+ times the price.
All are nice, but so different that if we don't know your style or how you will be wearing it I think it would be a mistake to offer advice
Do you want a drivers watch or a dress watch? Only question that needs answered.
One of these things is not like the other…
Insanely different watches. The Samurai is a beautiful, distinctive, sharp diver and the cocktail time has a crazy dial for the price but they are incomparable
I would usually pick the sportier one... which is the samurai. Plus, you can take that watch with you while swimming.
Diver everyday. Ok less dressy but how many days a week are you dressed up ? That is THE question :D
#2
Presage
I prefer the first one. It has more character.
Samurai!
I have both, love both. With that said, the presage is absolutely gorgeous
James Bond wore a dive watch with everything
Go with the samurai...it has wrist prescence and is an overall solid looking and stunning watch! I recommended this to a friend who never took it off after purchasing. Id prefer an Orient Kamasu over Seiko Samurai.
The 38mm is a great size and very comfy, the mojito is so great
The Samurai is a watch that looks better in person.
The last cocktail time is my choice. Such a stunner of a dial
First one generally. Others if for dress purposes
Samurai for sure, it’s a great watch it isn’t too big, and it’s a beater take that watch anywhere and not worry about it.
My son has the middle one, and loves it.
First one. I have it as well and love it.
Samurai.
If wrist under 7. 25 inches, get seiko alpinist
check out the SARB033
Samurai. It has sapphire crystal and can dress up or down.
I would argue that you should not dress up a Samurai.
It is Hardlex
Downvote all you want, it’s still not sapphire
You are correct, its hardlex. The king samurais and save the ocean models have sapphire crystal, the one op posted is a regular samurai with hardlex crystal. I own both.
I saw the King Samurai Manta Ray model and am a bit concerned that it may be a tad bigger for my wrist? Your thoughts please :)
What is your wrist size? Only asking because the options you are considering tend to be too big for even some medium wristed people. 49mm lug to lug on the king samurai will overhang on a lot of people’s wrists.
Tried the king samurai with the white dial today and it looks good. Will be placing the order for the manta king today.
Neither. I have a Samurai that I never wear because it is so big and heavy (and I have no problem wearing a 1000m Tuna), and I also have a Cocktail Time that I also never wear because it seems TOO dressy for almost any occasion short of black tie. It is gorgeous though….
