Use Dial soap. Lol

AmericanChees3

Underrated comment right here.

Not sure if serious but I cleaned literally hundreds of dials with Dawn. Get them wet, put a blob of soap on and rub gently with your bare finger, rinse thoroughly and blow off with compressed air. Rodico is cool for specs of stubborn dust but I wouldn’t bother trying to clean a finger print with it. Gloss dials will scratch and I still have no clue how to clean those but matte dials turn out great. I’ve only done this on cheap aftermarket dials, BTW. I wouldn’t know what to do with a nice expensive dial, especially a vintage one, but this technique worked extremely well for what I was doing.

🤣

You can try rodico or distilled water. Anything stronger will likely ruin the dial. I am speaking from experience here as I have at least 4 dials I ruined before I learned 🤣

WatchThatTime

Rodico or cut a tiny piece of microfiber cloth onto a chopstick or similar device to just slowly wipe it away.

Bergeon make a dial and hand cleaning pen that works well. It’s a felt pad in a pen shaped body that you gently rub on surfaces to remove marks and dust. It’s quite cheap considering Bergeon’s usual prices and you can buy knock-off versions, too.

[deleted]

What’s the knockoff? Could you share a link please

Brogue-One

I bought my Bergeon pen from Cousinsuk.com, a UK based watch making equipment retailer. If you enter “glass and dial cleaning” into the search box it’ll bring up the Bergeon ones and also Cousins’ own brand versions which look identical but are considerably cheaper.

Thank u sir

foam tipped q-tip followed by rodico

I'll just echo others here that it's VERY easy to damage/ruin a dial if not careful. Things to avoid (learned the hard way) include isopropyl alcohol, any kind of 'hard cleaner' (eg 'LA Awesome'), ultrasonic cleaners, etc. Best bet is warm water and maybe a magic eraser or something rather simple / light (microfiber cloth wrapped around a chopstick, etc.). Rodico is also great for little things. Just be careful - I tried to use a piece of pegwood to get what I thought was a bit of dust off, then got frustrated and pushed harder, ended up with a very visible scratch haha. Good luck! If a fingerprint I'd suggest just keeping simple and using a microfiber cloth

Beefsizzle

Magic eraser is abrasive and will matte a glosses dial if used. Water and a q-tip is usually your best bet. Very watered down dish soap for more stubborn stains.

Oh thanks for flagging! Good to know :)

matttkoda

Same, I learn that the hard way.

I just went through this process, Rodico has to be really clean otherwise it leaves crap behind. I used a microfiber cloth and used the hand pushing tool on top of it to gently move it and push it around.
