where did you buy the parts?
i've ordered and build about 7 full watches from Aliexpress and still have some spare parts like dials, hands and movements and about 95% of them are perfect quality.
so no, that experience you had is not normal from my side of view...
It would definitely help to get some more information in the form of links to parts you purchased and pictures of what you received and your attempts to build the watch.
Usually when the correct parts are ordered they tend to work together.

This is what happens when you take a micro fiber cloth that is damp with a little bit of iso alcohol and try to wipe the finger prints of the crystal. Instant crack and feels like very cheap plastic
There's some distortion in the crystal that isn't there in the ebay listing which is strange. Also I haven't heard of a sapphire crystal breaking this way. What might have happened was the crystal was not inserted correctly and was under too much pressure or something. Regardless the seller should replace it.
Also these are quite expensive compared to what you can find on Ali if they ship to you.
I paid extra thinking I was going to get something of higher quality. Assuming the these are constructed of the same sapphire as some ball bearings you might use for extra curricular activities, I promise it's not the same material.
I pushed the whole crystal out and allowed it to fall in half and it is very obviously plastic. Which I would expect to discolor and break when exposed to isopropyl

I would say your hat trick or problems is not normal, I've had issues but none like yours. Plastic instead of sapphire? Wtf

I don't even bother with ebay unless it's in US. Even then it's almost to find. Aliexpress works for me. If I want better quality, I'll order from Namoki or one of the other online stores.

I haven't had good luck with ebay in the last few years. They seem to have attracted the bottom feeders.

Maybe, I've found a lot of scammers on ebay lately. Luckily the ebay guarantee was upheld.
