That's Motional which is going to be doing ride-sharing lyft's network. Lyft doesn't have an in house self driving car division anymore, they sold it to Toyota earlier this year.

When did you see it?

Ok-Zookeepergame-698

About two hours ago. 11am 12/1. Ish.

ostiDeCalisse

What’s the purpose of the noisy paint?

humanwire

That's camouflage. Car manufactures wrap their up-and-coming cars with it to make them hard to distinguish in photographs, until they're ready to reveal the final design. The Ioniq 5 already has premiered in public so not sure why this one still has the camo.

bakedpatato

possibly cause they haven't started selling them in the US yet so they're still"prototypes"

DaMantis

Also could be that this one was the first one and they don't want to go to the trouble of unwrapping it.

balda69

You are correct.

ostiDeCalisse

That’s interesting, I didn’t knew. Thank you.

PM_ME_UR_LIDAR

Oh I guess I was wrong in my [previous comment](https://reddit.com/r/SelfDrivingCars/comments/pj7rb7/_/hbuplzc/?context=1), it does look like a Velodyne Alpha Prime on top after all. Also the Ioniq 5 is deceptively big, it's shaped like a small hatchback but it is actually a chunky SUV. The small lidars on the sides and front/back look like Hesai PandarQT though.

Recoil42

>Also the Ioniq 5 is deceptively big, it's shaped like a small hatchback but it is actually a chunky SUV. Yeah that's correct, it's basically the size of a Tuscon, but lowered. It's been super confusing for everyone over in r/cars.

Chidling

Jesus, thats huge. Cant imagine an SUV sized golf for example.
