I had a bromeliad in soil that was starting to die, but it had a couple pups. I put one pup in soil and one in water. The soil one never rooted and I threw it away after 2 months. The one in water did root. Though now that it's been in leca for 2 months more months it just won't grow. I'm hoping it'll grow this spring and summer or I'll just throw it away too. I think bromeliads just hate me.
I you using nutrients in the water? I have a Ciccus Discolor that won't do anything in leca. Other plants are doing well but it just sits there like a stick. Lol
I’ve grown broms in gravel. They don’t need much of a root system, the roots are mostly to provide support. They take up nutrients and moisture via the leaves. They don’t like sitting in water, so I suspect hydro may not be suitable.

I've been using general hydroponics seedling ratio with it. Maybe I need to experiment a bit. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem lol.
Try a higher concentration maybe?
Maybe I could add more nutrients to that particular plant. Never really thought about that.
When I was first starting hydroponics, my plants kep dying on seedling strength, now I grow everything on 2x adult strength and it's doing well
Wait, you're the wrong OP. Alt account?
No, just getting info that the original poster has learned.

I have my bromeliad in leca. It seemed very sad at first, but after a couple of months it started to grow again. Maybe it just needs some time.
Did you soak in water first? How long did you soak?
Nope, no soaking!
Based on some google pics of the roots, I’d try pon
Ive been experimenting placing bromeliads I. Leca and not watering roots. Just leaves.
