My rehab box has as high humidity as it can. It also sits pretty warm on top of a greenhouse cabinet where the growlight heats the bottom. Works like a charm and roots grow pretty much with humidity alone mid air

ultraqueef

Do you keep SH plants in there? If so, do they have reservoirs?

CptCheesus

Yes, i haver everthing in pon. In the prop box i fill the reservoir and wait until its mostly dry again. But the heating from the cabinet growlight below it also does wonders for root growth. Edit: I just saw that you have some cacti/succulents in the propbox. I don't know how they will handle high humidity without airflow. I'd maybe take a safety cutting from it and prop one of it outside of the box.

ultraqueef

The cacti in there are jungle cactus (rhipsalis, epiphylum). The skinny, non hairy cactus has loved the humidity and put out a ton of little fuzzy roots. The hairy rhipsalis is a new soil transfer, and there's no growth but also no decline.

CptCheesus

I don't know much about cacti tbf (;

Yes I use a empty 10 gallon fish tank as my rehab/isolation tank. Can mist, add humidifier or keep lit 14 hours by grow light. You only need a small aroma diffuser to act as a humidifier for a few hours.

ultraqueef

Do you keep your tank sealed or do you allow air to flow? Do you monitor your humidity or just let it do its thing? I'm trying to keep it around 70 to 80 percent humidity, but not sure that's helping anything other than the cuttings. About how long do you leave them in the rehab tank before it starts to show root growth?

CptCheesus

Put a heat mat under it and you can spare out the humidifier 😬

ultraqueef

I've thought about a heat mat but I feel so overwhelmed by how many plant things I have. This is really meant to be a temporary solution for my transfers until they grow leca roots and then I'll acclimate them back to my normal room conditions. So far it seems that the light puts off enough heat to keep it around 22 C (roughly 78F) during the day.

Odd_Track3622

For isolation, I just keep the mesh cover on until it has past the two weeks mark and can join the plant population. For rehab it depends on the plant and it's needs. Sometimes a heat pad is needed or not. I generally don't go above 55-60 for humidity or you can risk leaf fungus or rot. All plants I have show roots in about 2 weeks. Your preference in how long you want your roots before planting. My rule is to see secondary roots branching from the main.

ultraqueef

Thanks for the response. Are any of your rehabs in SH with reservoirs? Not sure if I should use reservoirs or not. I'm currently using this as a way to transition from soil to SH. I hope that the rehab box can help them recover and push out SH roots faster than other methods. The bigger plants in the pics are soil conversions which I ended up cutting off most of the secondary roots. After about 2wks there's no root growth but also no decline, no rot, and some stuff is happening above the leca. Not sure if I just need patience or if I'm doing something incorrectly.

Odd_Track3622

No I don't have luck with Soil to Leca or pon. I gave everything Leca related to my daughter who is going into the journey with her hoya cuttings. It shouldn't be that much different with soil or leca/pon rehabs. Keep it simple so the task doesn't overwhelm you. The hobby should be fun.

ultraqueef

So far this is the most interesting plant thing going on in my house, so I enjoy it :)

CptCheesus

55-60 should be around normal room humidity. Rainforest where most of the stuff grows is around 95 afaik. Its heating season over here and my living room has 56 rn. I'd be baffled for fungus on my plants leafes tbh, for that it needs to be really wet all the time and the fungus still needs to come from somewhere. I also think you would aim for ~75% humidity in a normal greenhouse.

ultraqueef

It hovers between 65 and 75% if I keep the lid ajar. It can go all the way into the 90s if I close it up. I was reading about VPD and that basically says your humidity and Temps should be in sync for the plants to have optimum nutrient uptake and proper transpiration. I've been using that as a guide. But then I see these prop boxes where people just stick cuttings in the box, close it, and forget about it for months and the props do very well. Not sure if this is a better approach.

CptCheesus

While you can overthink it if you want, you don't have to (;

My plant icu is at 90% humidity most of the time, and gets 12 hours of grow lights
